It's the second time I've been to this pub this year while visiting St Neots, the service was excellent can't fault it for this and the venue is lovely, however on both occasions I've come away very disappointed with the condition and taste of the beer. I visit lots of real ale pubs on my travels and generally the beer is kept well and the condition is excellent, not sure if the pipes need cleaning more or the beer is kept too long before changing, but on both occasions the taste just doesn't seem right. On my last visit I was so disappointed I just left the pint with only taking 2 mouthfuls. Not what I expect from a real ale pub. Will not be returning for a third visit. With respect to your reply, when your beer tastes like vinegar this generally means bad hygiene in your pipes, once I can accept but twice that's not acceptable. Clearly something is wrong with your processes.

CAMRA pub in my new home town. Beer was slightly cloudy and warm. Not great for a CAMRA pub. The Beer Guide entry states 6 real ales. Only two on for this visit. Large range of fizzy beers. Advertise "Craft" beers, which usely means fruity or citrusy beers. No thanks. I like my bitter beer. If I want a fruity drink I'll have a Ribena. Not sure how it gets in the GBG?

First time in this pub and what a shame I've not been there before. If you are looking to expand your beer knowledge with a nice vibe then this is the place to go. A broad range of real ale beers is available at a reasonable price. Cheaper drinks if you are a CAMRA member. Very warm welcome from behind the bar. The bar was playing some great rock music creating a fantastic atmosphere. I will definitely be giving this place another visit when I'm in the area.

Did some live music for these guys about 6 months ago, it was fantastic. Staff were very friendly and have great tastes in music themselves (I really need to learn a bit more Tenacious D!), and the drinks and menu items are competitively priced compared to a few other locations in the area. The calibre of musicians playing here is also consistently high, taking a look at their poster wall. They've got a winning formula here, for sure! I'd love to come back and do some more music for you guys sometime soon 🎸

When John first took over the Pig it was a breath of fresh air, and became quickly established as an Ale drinkers paradise. Usually ten to a dozen Real Ales on tap, mostly served direct from the cask in the back Cellar. It also shied away from pandering to lager louts and mental drinkers. It also used to be pretty cheap. Over time it’s crown has slipped - or rather moved from Ale to Cider. The choice of ales have gone down whilst the number of ciders - on draught, and in bottles has gone up and up... During a visit a few months back I was the only person drinking Ale out of about 20 people. Most of the others were drinking cider - predominantly the mental juices from bottles, not even draught. Strength over taste wins out. The decline in Ale sales is very noticeable. In the early days if you visited on a Saturday you could virtually guarantee that none of the beers would be around the following Friday. Nowadays those barrels will last two weeks and aren’t in the best condition. A recent beer festival was extended to get rid of stock bought in that didn’t sell. Visiting 2 weeks after opening night over half of the beers from opening night were still available! Not a good sign. Once upon a time those beers would sell out in 3 or 4 days. Sadly, John the Landlord is not as sprightly as he once was and doesn’t seem to have much to do with the day to day running of the pub. I can’t recall him actually serving in over a year, though my visits are more like fortnightly rather than twice a week in its prime. And I think therein lies much of the problem. The staff run the pub almost like a little club for their mates to hang out in. And it doesn’t help that many of them are one step away from being beggars and vagabonds. I really fear for this places future.

This place is quirky and the idea behind it is really nice, full of interesting events and activities, selling art, craft and music. However, there are a few flaws: staff could be more welcoming (they seem so busy running around without smiling even when they don’t have many clients), but more importantly the place is not clean enough. Every time I went tables were sticky and had left over crumbles and food from previous customer, you pick up one of the free books on display and they are all dusty, same as the table games… it doesn’t give you much trust on the state of the kitchen. Menu is varied enough with an eye for intolerances and vegan/vegetarian which is great however quality of the food is just ok, a bit bland and coffee very substandard even compared to a chain like Costa. The place has surely potential, the idea is great, but there is surely room for improvement.
