A good idea & the food we chose we enjoyed : Ghujarati lamb mince delicious, Kerala chicken meant to be cooked in coconut milk but no flavour of that at all. Tasty dish. Rice was unseasoned. Onion bahjis very good indeed. Veg samosas unseasoned. Coriander sauce delicious. Bread good but nothing special. All well packaged & service was excellent. It was very good value for us as the above was enough for 2 meals for 2.

Had a BBQ takeaway box today. Service was excellent and was well presented and packaged. Food was nice but we weren't blown away. Box included 4 chicken breast strips, 2 small lamb burgers, 2 pork kebabs, couple of dips and some Bombay Mix. £25. That is very, very expensive for such a small amount of food that was just okay. Happy to support a local independent and see them doing well. Its a 3.5 really. 5 for service, 2 for value and 3 for quality. Its just not great value.

Just finished eating our delicious delivery. We chose a chicken and a lamb curry with rice, onion bhajis, samosas and side dish of spicy lamb ribs. The curries were delicious with such different flavours to the normal mass produced takeaway curries. Samosas and onion bhajis were lovely and crispy, the lamb ribs were amazing (could have eaten a plateful on their own). If you want something different to your normal run of the meal curry, this is the place for you. Tony

Tina, Ottery St Mary's Samosa Lady, does regular dining evenings when she will present a group of people - who either already know each other or don't - with a lovely range of Gujerati dishes made from fresh, local ingredients. Tina is a lovely host and will describe everything you are eating as it arrives. She hates anyone to go hungry so if there is something you don't particularly like she will find something else for you.

Only bought samoosas to take away but was amazed at how authentic they were. Having recently holidayed in India, these were as good.

Experienced a wonderful evening of communal dining and feasting at the Samosa Lady. We were taken through a journey of not only tastes and smells, but of Tina’s journey through culinary experiences from India to Africa to Yorkshire! Each of our 5 courses had a story about where the dish derived from. There are no menus. Tina cooks from the heart using local produce. I am gluten free and was totally catered for including the amazing chai apple crumble for dessert! There was also an added bonus of BYO so the wine was plentiful. I will certainly be back, this is some of the best Indian food I have ever tasted!

After reading the many glowing reviews of this place, we were super excited about going and having some masala chai and samosas. We got there at around 11am and even though the website states we were witihin the opening times, we were told they were closed but they could do some samosas to take away. We agreed and ordered lamb samosas and were told they’d be ready in about ten minutes and to come back for them. When we returned, we paid the £10 for four samosas (astronomical!! As you can get them for 35 pence each in Birmingham and they are much more authentic and home made). When we got home and opened the box of samosas up I was shocked to see that my £10 samosas were burnt. I was fuming and felt like a complete mug. I am of Asian origin myself and make authentic Indian dishes at home for my family. I know that the pastry was not homemade at all and the samosas has been fried in oil that had been too hot hence why they were burnt and the filling dry. I can’t vouch for the other dishes at the place as I never tried them but I’ve been stung now and I wouldn’t return.

Not what you’d expect in Ottery but this is a gem (I’m not doing Jewel I’m the Crown cliches here...). Real Indian food like you get in real Gujarati homes rather than the usual Indian restaurant fare. Tina is a great hostess, the atmosphere is intimate and quirky and the dining nights are fab. It’s byo and there’s an offy round the corner if you run out. Love it. Book early!

Indian food is not a flavour I have much experience of and even lass knowledge. Our meal on Saturday evening was just so tasty. We were guided what to choose based upon the flavours we like. The pork was so tender, the mushroom curry tasty and the pastry on the samosas so crisp. DELICIOUS and well worth another visit when next in the area.

You need to keep alert to eat here, she only opens on odd Fridays and Saturdays. Set, fixed price menu. Don't be put off, the food is simply outstanding. The flavours are superb, and this is real gastronomic Indian food. It's humorous too, after her signature samosa's (the best seller at the Ottery Food Festival) we had fish and chips, Indian style as a small interim course. Three times coked sweet potato spicy chips with a small piece of spiced oven baked cod. One of our grown up children said it was the best dish she had ever eaten. Then the curries and desert to were excellent. You can bring your own booze. Highly recommended

We came here during the Ottery St Mary tar barrels which is an unusual environment for a small independent but the Samosa Lady came up trumps with some lovely home made soup and she knew exactly what ingredients were in it which is a relief for someone with a more unusual tomato and potato allergy. A lovely light relief from the usual chip and burger vans. A lovely gem!

This advertises itself with the promise of authentic home made food, and this is what you get. We all really enjoyed the food and loved how everything was explained to us when it was bought out to you. We all like Indian food and agreed it was not your usual fare especially the lovely dip with the samosas.

About as authentic as you're going to get in Devon, well in the UK to be honest ! Not your average Indian food but much more like the food you get in India than pretty much anywhere I've visited (and I've visited a lot!) in Europe. Great little pop up restaurant nights, lovely company and Tina's hosting is superb - being covered in paint is included (but not compulsory) at Holi too. A real hidden masterpiece of a shop/restaurant.

Lovely shop, lovely lady, lovely food. It isn't all that clear what is on offer here, there are no menus on display and you have to engage a bit, but the taste is amazing; in fact the aroma of the place is enough to make it worth a visit.

An amazing selection of tasty dishes. I haven't eaten in but was very happy with the choices available, either chilled or frozen to take home to cater for a party. The Samosa Lady herself couldn't have been more helpful and was able to provide me with small quantities of spices and pickles etc. to further tickle the taste buds.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We were having a busy morning and needed something to eat, we saw the word "cafe" on a sign across the street and entered. Initial thoughts was it looked like bit of a jumble of tables and chairs of different styles and it was difficult to work out what they served, but the welcome was lovely so we stayed. Choices were a number of daily special curries or snacks of samosas and chutney, I was going to have a snack but when the wife went for the veggie Currie, I opted for the meat one. The little one (19 month old) was getting fidgetty as he'd not eaten but they offered a small amount of curry with some yoghurt added, he's had curry in nursery so we went with it. Lunch comes with coffee or chai tea and we order a large caffetier and a squash for the tiddler. In the few minutes it takes for the food to come out he manages to push a number of chairs around, throw dried lentils around from a display and break the cup of squash he now has... The samosa lady couldn't have been nicer, telling us not to worry and talking to the little one and showing him things around the cafe. Beautiful curries and nice strong coffee, my lamb curry was particularly good, intense flavours, not too hot and it really was filling. I went in thinking I was going to have a fryup brekkie, but I am so glad we stayed and went for something different.
