Sambuca in North Tyneside

We normally go toDavantis in Tynemouth, but it was closed on 02 Jan, so we came here instead. The Sambuca at Percy main is always fine, but for some reason we came to Sambuca 1. We all had potato skins and a pizza each. The food was fine, there was just very little of it. 8 small potato skins that probably amounted to 1/4 of a small jacket potato and an 8" pizza that's incredibly thin. The pizza is around 12" at other local Sambuca branches (just as thin) and you'd get twice as many skins. Service was incredibly slow, considering there were only 2 couples in with us. We all left almost as hungry as we had arrived. If we'd been at Davantis or Sambuca Percy Main, we'd have left full.

Wow ! Amazing food large menu, excellent service. This restaurant is well worth a visit quirking, quaint and great ambience. Prices for every pocket. Quality food at affordable prices. Would definitely recommend the house wine . 5 star

After reading some comments I will speak of our visit We were welcomed and shown to our table by Shirwan and orders taken by Alexander both were welcoming and friendly I ordered a starter off menu to see whether they would accommodate me It arrived and the food was amazing It was hot as was the plate full. The meal was full of flavour The restaurant was very busy However the all staff were attentive For the price its a no brained See you all soon Craig and Judith A foot note we have visited this restaurant many times and for many years and as yet never had a bad meal

Sea food over cooked, service very slow. Definitely gone backwards. My fish and chips were excellent,grand children were happy. Some staff were nice but far too long to service the clients.

This has been our go - to venue for 15 years, sadly , due to overbearing staff and substandard food we are unlikely to return

My wife and I have been visiting this restaurant for around 15 years. Until our most recent visit we have always enjoyed it. Not so now. The food is good and the service quick. But sadly, on this occasion the staff let it down, badly. The young man who "led" the staff paid far more attention to eating his own meal, and then to his female serving colleague than to his customers. The staff got free neck massages - the customers not quite so much attention - thankfully. The gentleman in question was arrogant and was easily overheard complaining that fellows diners (of Middle Eastern origin, I think) "could not even speak proper English". Despite the good food the lack of professionalism shown by the floor manager was appalling, no where near what Sambuca 1 has offered in the past and well below any reasonable standard of service. There are too many other good outlets on the Fish Quay to try.

Everything was fine. Music was blasting for a friday afternoon, couldnt hear what our company were saying to each other. Asked nicely 4 times to different staff if they could turn down a touch. Not once did any try to turn it dawn. Well we wont be vuisiting again sorry. Absolute busting headache with pop music blasting, maybe suit customers who were on something to enjy the rave music playing,

Staff very friendly and food was very delicious. The prices are also amazing and the service is great.

So got here for 3:15, waited half an hour with queue going outside, didn’t mind as used good few times and found service , food and price decent. Drinks and staters arrived quick , mains took a while but understood as very busy. At 4:40 we ordered ice cream and coffee. We chased up with two waitresses one of which who we placed order with at 4:55 and was advised 2 minutes, 5:15, Still nothing. We got up asked to pay and mentioned to lady at bar area who was apologetic but when mentioned to the manager he just looked and walked away! Stunned to say the least. Nothing but polite never requested discount or anything just give the feedback waited nearly 30 minutes for dessert. In meantime a party of 4 & and a couple walked out with one person saying “clearly you’ve got problems today , we’re leaving”. Never have I seen as many walkouts. Think the issue had arisen as they over catered with a family of 6 in front of us were booked up for 3pm and weren’t seated until same time as us 3:45. They appeared to over compensate with service at their table and rightfully so but in the end I believe a detriment to others. Hard lesson learnt. Word of mouth travels fast. The meal itself soup starters and prawn cocktail perfect. Lamb dinner bit bland with lamb well over cooked but for £9.95 you can’t complain. The service however from being good ended disastrous but probably more for them than me in the end. Left the premises really shocked in the fact of zero acknowledgment from management to my complaint or too the two groups who walked out. Write this genuinely stunned! Hopefully this is one off, as need places like this where food and price supports people during pressures of cost living.

Had a nice meal with family. Special meal deal £7.95 3 course between 1-5pm. Drinks were quite cheap to some places. Toilets disappointing . A bit grubby hence only 4 stars.

We visited as a family including 1 toddler. The waiting team couldn't have been more helpful in accomodating us all and the little one. The food was fantastic, they even ensured the little ones food wasn't too hot when they brought her meal out. We will be going back 😁

It saddens me to write this review because myself and my husband used to love this place. It used to be a great place for an inexpensive but good quality tea. Tonight we visited for their daily meal deal.Potato skins and soup were ok but the mains were appalling . My tagliatelle with bacon and chilli was badly cooked pasta in a sloppy vegetable sauce. It looked awful . My husbands pepperoni pizza was overly salty and the base was far too thin and the edges burnt. . I refused to eat my pasta as it tasted and looked like slop so he ate a bit and part of his pizza as he was starving. I did mention to the waiter when he cleared the table that my meal was vile but he seemed totally disinterested. We ordered coffee as part of the meal deal but we had to pour the coffee slops out of the saucer into the cup as the waitress dumped them on the table and didn’t even apologise that she had spilt it. We were offered a refill. Was that to makeup for the dreadful food. Wasnt enough to be honest Save your money and go elsewhere. After many years of loving this place we won’t be back. I could cook better myself!!

Had a child free day with the wife and thought I would treat her to lunch, menu here looked great, sadly that is all that was great, clearly the chef thought they were far more capable than they actually are as the food was appalling, for starter I had calamari it was just cheap shop bought rings and over cooked at that my main was supposed to be a beef sizzler, microwave rice and tinned tomato sauce was absolutely disgusting, service was beyond rubbish. Wife’s pizza and prawn starter were ok, I’d suggest they stick with what they are capable of!! We won’t be back

Been using this restaurant since it first opened and the steak is still as good value as it was 20 year ago. Always a good welcome

What a weird place. As we walked in I asked the waitress were they open as the place looked like it was in the last stages of death. Of course she muttered however she appeared to have a limited ability in speaking English, I’m not sure she understood me. Then in an empty place she tried to force us on to a table for two. Why do they do that ? After negotiating a slightly larger table we sat down. The waitress then started to hassle us for the order. We kept on putting her off as we weren’t ready. Eventually a thuggish manageress (with local dialect) type person turned up and forced the order out of us. I asked for a glass of tap water, the original waitress didn’t understand what I required and after explaining what I required she brought a glass of water. goodness knows what was in it. They either get their water direct from the Tyne or put bleach in the water. It was undrinkable. So I had to waste a further £1.25 on a not real Diet Coke. The starter arrived. Garlic bread. The pizza base was uncooked and soggy. Frankly it was revolting. I told the non English speaking waitress how awful it was and she shrugged her shoulders and waddled off. No apology. The mains arrived. What we ordered is what we normally order in other Sambucca restaurants. This was our first visit here and again the taste was tainted. Again fairly revolting food. As we were waiting the back of house started to empty and we had two really old ladies with overcoats on who just sat and stared at us. The rest of the place was clearly shutting down and it was evident they didn’t want us in the place. This is at 8:00pm in the evening. We eventually got the message and left. Well it’s lucky we got out of the way otherwise we would have been trampled in their rush to exit the place. Frankly it was a frightful visit. Awful service. Disgusting food. Terrible drinks. No form of customer service. In summary there are plenty of other restaurants in the area, avoid this place and go somewhere else who want your money and who can cook food properly.

Well once more not disappointed by either the food or service.Just had a seafood platter one of the best if not THE BEST of the fish quay. There must have been about 8 different types of seafood in a lovely cream sauce . They have a good selection of fish dishes love to try all of the specials

Great friendly service lovely people. Worth going for the the specials menu excellent food at a reasonable price a good change fr pizza and pasta. We had a seafood platter which had about 10 different types of seafood on it

Small nut intimate Venue thats been in North Shields for years. Cheap eats and good fun staff serving you. Cheap Pizza and skins are always a favourite.

Stayed 1 night in North Shields. Had a brilliant meal. Would hugely recommend this great restaurant. Food and service was excellent.

Couldn’t fault it really, for £5.95 for three courses. Yeah it’s not michelin star but you can’t go wrong! Staff really friendly and attentive, if I’m ever back I will return!

An impulse lunchtime meal did not disappoint. Took advantage of the 3 course £5.95 lunchtime menu. I wasn’t expecting a great deal but received more than I bargained for. Flavoursome simple minestrone soup was a refreshing hit, Calzone well cooked with plentiful Parmesan, clean vanilla ice cream to finish. All well cooked, unpretentious, attentive respectful service, just how a classic Italian should be. The interior of the restaurant has an interesting care wore decor, wood panel walls reminiscent of an eatery from the godfather. The restaurant was clean and tidy.Next time I am in this area I would certainly like to try the Steak/chicken options they also looked excellent value. All in all a lovely little place taking advantage of an excellent location next to the Tyne fishing harbour

Popped in for the lunchtime special, a staggeringly good value £5.95 for 3 courses. The pasta main dishes we had were big portions and just about the best Italian food we have had for some while. Soup starter was also top notch. It's only a small venue but it was packed outside and in. Will be back for the steak special very soon :-)

Sunday lunch here is one not to be missed. Well cooked Sunday lunch with all the trimmings that “value for money” surely can’t be beaten in the area

The restaurant offers a three-course (yes, three course) lunchtime menu for £5.95, which in my wife's case was a very good minestrone, followed by pasta and ice cream. I went for the seabass on a bed of mussels. This chef knows how to cook seabass. It was perfect - light and flaky with a tasty, crispy skin. The mussels alone would have made a meal. They were equally delicious. This place is worth making a special visit to North Shields for, in a great location where the Tyne meets the sea. Interesting dockside environment with plenty of active fishing boats.

We went for the chicken night and the food was excellent we both had beef stripes in tempura batter with a sweet chilli sauce I had chicken cordon blue which was excellent. Only fault was took 45 minutes to take the order after that wait things improved

Can honestly say one of the best meals we have had In a while. The pasta and Kiev was phenomenal and chap with the beard has that Italian penashe to go with it. If we are back up this way will definitely be back 👍

listen im very disappointed with your stock you need to get more food when you run out i ordered lasagne for me and other stuff for family members you people had everything apart from the lasagne what sort of sambuca restaraunt doesnt have lasagne and a bad stock get your stock right you ran out so buy some more instead of being lazy this place is terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Visited for lunch based on the fish dishes on the blackboard outside. The fish soup was really tasty and filling. The sea bass in tempura batter was delicious and the paella was lovely but far too large for a lunch time. All meals were really good value. Would definitely go again if in the area.

It's a number of years since I've visited Sambuca on the Quay and to be honest, it wasn't our first choice. As all the other restaurants in the area appeared to be full we reluctantly decided on eating at Sambuca . Opting for the lunch menu we weren't expecting much, however we were pleasantly surprised. The pizzas appear to have improved since our last visit, the wine tasted better and the service had improved hugely. The meal was excellent value, will definitely be returning soon.

Mushroom risotto has no taste ... the strawberry desert was disgusting and the strawberry’s were out of date.

For a lunchtime treat get you and yours down to the North Shields Fish Quay Sambuca 1 as the lunchtime deal is brilliant. Tasty food, excellent staff and great location make it a mealtime visit to remember. The £5.95 3 course deal is perfect and we recommend for singles, couples or family as there is something for all ! We sat outside as it was a sunny day and that is great for people watching. As said previously the staff are good as they chat with you and nothing is a bother.. give it a try sometime.. you won't be disappointed.

Daughters birthday party take away pizza tonight. Wonderful service as usual nothing a problem, great value and always a smile. In times like these it’s hard to beat. Will continue to come here in future - oh and brilliant pizza!!!

Not been to sambucca for a few years as it became rubbish ... But tonight it was back to the way I remembered.. Value for money with OK food and fake Italian staff... I was pleasantly surprised

Monday night specialAfter work three of us ate here. Two took advantage of the special menu.The starters were soup, potato skins or goats cheese bruschetta. Mains; steak with sauce and rice, veg, chips or salad. Deserts; tiramisu, coffee or ice creams.I had the minestrone, a sirloin with pepper sauce and veg and the ice cream. All were good. My sirloin was over done compared to how I asked for it, but it was still tasty. The ice cream was cheap and cheerful, but it was fine for what it was. You’ll never get amazing gelato as part of the deal we got.Everyone enjoyed their food.

We had mozzarella balls and potato skins, both were great. We ordered fish and chips, the fish was beautiful and perfectly cooked. The place was packed for a Monday lunchtime, we will definitely go back for the Italian lunch special

As a group of friends we go here not just because food is delicious there are three very important reasons they are 1.Atmosphere 2.Reasonably priced 3. We love it !!!

Been going for 20 years went for a friend's birthday and we had a superb night lovely bruchetta to start followed by excellent steaks cooked to perfection. So full no room for one of the Excellent sweets

Sambuca continues to deliver good value, or cheap and cheerful, if you like. The food is really well cooked, very tasty, and service is pretty good too. I reckon we were the only customers who weren't regulars, which says a lot about it.

It’s been years since I’ve been to this particular Sambuca & we only went due to the fact we we’re invited for dinner out by our neighbours who always come to this restaurant… now I can see why!When we arrived the place was packed out (as it usually is since it’s the smallest Sambuca eatery) & the staff we really friendly & looked after our table for the whole evening – even though we were the last ones to leave!Most of us went for the Tuesday steak night menu. So x3 of us had the Goats Cheese Bruschetta (the portions were ample size & the goats cheese was fresh) & the rest of the table got the Potato Skins. For mains everyone ordered either the fillet or ribeye steaks (as per the set menu options), these were cooked to order (rare or radium rare & x1 well done) & came with homemade triple-fried chips – which were not greasy/oily in the slightest. Only x2 of our table decided to go for other dishes… one being the Mixed Seafood Platter (refer to photo) which was on the Specials Menu and someone else had the Marinara Pasta from the normal menu. Both dishes had great feedback and some of us even had room for dessert! I went for the cheesecake this tasted great. There was also a choice of tiramisu (refer to photos) & ice cream… after all this we were pretty stuffed.The service we received was super attentive & the food was fab… thank you Sambuca 1 crew  we had a wonderful evening & will definitely be back.

We booked a table of 9 with an hours notice, a wide variety of food on the menu not to mention the extensive specials board. We were well looked after by the staff and the food was delicious.

A return not to be forgotten. The staff here are brilliant and friendly. The food tonight was excellent - I can honestly say it was probably the best fish pie I have ever had anywhere, It was rammed with fish and so tasty, The presentation was very good and the whole place is warm and cosy. The patrons are treated as if you are a regular - real care - Excellent.

Been here lots of times over the years never had a bad experience always very friendly and food is always spot on , No starter just 2 portions Chicken Arrabiata with crispy chips absolutely outstanding

We came across this restaurant on our wanderings when visiting for the day on a very Hot busy bank holiday weekend and decided that menu looked interesting and we got a table fairly quickly luckily as it was very busy obviously and we were sat down on a table next to a lovely couple who we got chatting to as we were nearly on same table (bit snug) and we knew we had made the right decision on our menu choices as they said they ate here regularly and recommended our choices of crispy sardines as a starter and then mixed grilled seafood and chicken n seafood paella. Their dishes looked fab too mussels n prawns and a chicken dish.

We came here on Saturday of a hot August bank holiday weekend. We booked for 9 people only 20 minutes before arriving and they said they could squeeze us in. The staff were extremely accommodating, really helpful sorting pushchairs even though it was really busy and very hot. They did everything with a smile. Food was lovely, loads of seafood choice as well as classic Italian options and it was delicious. We didn’t have to wait long for it either. Prices are very reasonable too.

I tried here as people kept advising me to go for a meal, i went one busy lunchtime and it was of course packed in there as most of this chain normally is. We had to sit outside as it was too busy inside. The lunch menu is a basic budget friendly one, its good if your looking for cheap eats out. But the food itself was pretty average which i was shocked at. I would go again, but wouldnt be for a little while.

Have been to sambuca for food many times

Lovely dinner tonight at Sambuca’s .., staff couldn’t be friendlier & food was delicious. We had mussels, king prawns & chicken cacciatore... all perfectly cooked & delicious. Would definitely recommend to others & will be returning in the future! Thank you very much for a really lovely evening!

Great place for family and friends. Meal deal Monday to Friday a choice of pizza or pasta. Staff are fantastic and very friendly. Try an evening for a special meals.. The staff realy look after you.. Enjoy. We do every time.

We visited at lunchtime and had the special 3 course meal. The food we had was excellent and consistent quality to other Sambuca restaurants we have visited. Very nice little italian restaurant. The waiter was friendly and couldn't fault anything at all.

A varied menu. Food value for money. Standard men is very economical. Specials on boards are varied and also good value for money.

We arrived at 12.0 for opening, were sat at a table, given menue. We were told that they would be taking orders in 5 or 10 minutes, but was more like 20 minutes.

My sister and our friends wanted a bite to eat on a Friday night. There was no special occasion or reason other than a girly get together. For this reason we wanted somewhere we could chat and catch up without spending a fortune. We hit the jackpot with this lovely little place. We all chose a chicken dish with variations of sauces between us which was served with chips or salad. We all agreed the meal was delicious and couldn’t be faulted. Service was very good and we could hear ourselves talk. Thank you for a lovely evening which didn’t break the bank

Nice enough tea for the price but service was a little weird as the waiter must have known the people a couple of tables along and sat casually on the table next to us... I found him a bit slap dash and overly casual. Always good for a cheap bite tho.

Cheap and delicious, you can have a great time and also save a lot of money! Really recommend! I had the most delicious fish pasta, YUM!

Friendly staff, great food and value for money lots to choose from also in a great area . We try to visit when ever we are in the area.

Stopped for lunch and since we had our dogs with us we sat outside. From the specials i had the mixed seafood which i enjoyed, a mixture of prawns, squid and mixed fish in a garlic sauce. My wife had the fried fish which lacked taste. The restaurant was very busy.

A wonderful meal from lovely Black pudding & belly pork starter, and a fantastic Fish pie, was told by a waiter " you should not have had a starter - as the fish pie is very filling" my god he was right! But I managed both- completely stuffed. My wife and daughter both had the chicken kiev - looked fabulous and was massive, great portions and great quality. Staff very friendly not rushed and good fun. Will definatly be back.

Cheesy garlic bread was fab as were the potato skins, my chicken Kiev was on the bone, and empty inside, with a thick parsley butter poured over the top, not even a hint of garlic. My partners fish platter was good but the spicy sauce had no spice at all. The chicken pizza is ok but the chicken on it is great big chunks.

We visited 1st December and got the 3 course meal deal, food was lovely and probably cheaper than a fast food restaurant! Staff are friendly too

We are regular visitors to Sambuca 1 and would recommend it to anyone. The food is good the staff friendly and welcoming at a more than reasonable price . We have gone for just a pasta meal and for the steak and would recommend both.

Went with my son, his girlfriend and daughter. Quick service when very busy. Attentive and food was amazing for such a great price. Will visit again.

Last minute booking for birthday party and could not have been happier with the food, the service and the price. Staff were all excellent ( and I mean EXCELLENT) and the food was top notch. Had the breaded cod on potatoes dauphinois which was very good. Highly recommend this place.

We called in here during a pub crawl as a group of 11.. randomly - not pre booked and they did amazing to accommodate us so quickly! The food was piping hot, the best aribiata I’ve ever had! And the staff were lovely too! Highly recommend!! * we were also 2 minutes over the 3 course desk and they let us have it still * Thank you!

We stumbled on this restaurant by accident and we are so pleased we did. We were served with the best paella we have anywhere outside Spain. Fantastic

Food was good, decent prices. Lovely atmospheer. I had surloin steak Diana, witch was very tasty with Potato wedges and some nice garlic mayonnaise. My husband had the 3 course specials menu for only £5,95. This was nice for that price....potato' could be more crisp but overal a very nice meal.

If you happen to be visiting North Shields be sure to drop in to this restaurant for lunch, excellent value! We hopped on the ferry from South Shields and wandered along the quayside looking at a variety of eating venues, which all looked good value for money, but decided to try this restaurant. I had the seafood platter, which came with a variety of delicacies, salmon, calamari, mussels in a delicious tomato sauce, salad and a side of fries. My friend went with the fish paella, which he assured me was delicious. The mains were £6.95 plus a couple of beers, total bill £20.95 for two. Staff very welcoming and friendly, will certainly be visiting this venue again, great place to catch up with friends and enjoy a leisurely lunch. You can also sit outdoors weather permitting.

Yes , the music was so loud and totally going against this tea time visit, when the staff owners put on there taste of music that suits them , well it’s a one way ticket to ensuring empty seats , shame because I have visited a few times with no issues , but I refuse to sit and have to endure , boom boom boom eating a meal

Bank holiday Sunday an 5 friends and I decided to go for a meal here. 2 had chicken Kiev's, 3 had pizzas and 1 had a Sunday roast which was 3 courses. The service was great without being overbearing. The food was hot on arrival and very tasty. The bottles of wine were nice but very overpriced but this is where places like this make their money. All in all though, it was well worth the price we paid and all of us would return again

I cannot stress how large the portion sizes are here. We were blown away by the amount of good tasting food we had. Staff were fabulous with our gf and df intolerance. Will definitely be back! Cannot fault it.

Been coming here sporadically for years, from when it was the only Sambuca. Small very friendly restaurant with great food and staff.

The staff are great (apart from the waitress dropping the cutlery and the sauce dirtying my trousers!). The food is delicious and very good value for money. I am a regular to Sambuca 1 and I highly recommend the place.

Popped in for a meal having looked at some very inflated prices in the area - which was heaving on a sunny Sunday.

We often go to this restaurant as we like the intimate friendly atmosphere.Unfortunately there was a too much salt in the gravy and we felt this let the things down slightly but other than that will go again.

Went here there was a big party of us but they were on the ball all the time amazing food great ambiance. We all had the 3 course for just under £5.00 it was great.

This was my first visit to Sambuca 1 and will definitely go back there again. The four of us ordered the GBP 4.95 lunch menu - a minestrone soup or potato skins starter, followed by a pizza or a pasta dish plus a coffee. All the dishes were very good and the service was personal and par excellence. Well done Sambuca 1!

Visited here for a quick bite to eat with my other half, we got 2 tea time specials which were, as always, really good value and very tasty!

My friend was visiting Tynemouth from Spain as she used to live on the river. I drove up from Fareham (Portsmouth) to see her and she recommended Sambucas' that evening. A gorgeous little restaurant, authentic, atmospheric and so friendly! Great food, huge portions all cooked to high standards. The fish soup was a starter and was the best I've ever eaten, in fact I couldn't then eat the paella as I was so full but the waiter said I could take it home and gave us takeaway boxes! Apart from the usual banter between me and the staff because I have a strong Hampshire accent(!!) as I'm a Southern Softie we had such a lovely Mediterranean evening in Sambucas'!! Definitely coming back, brilliant!!

Food was nice, prices were reasonable, staff friendly and obliging. Too many flies buzzing around. Kind of put us off a bit....... still ate it though!!!

Cycling from Newcastle to Edinburgh we stumbled on this resteraunt. The best meal we had on the trip. Very good value, 2 main fish meals and 2 glasses of wine each. £22!
