Avoid! It’s like a sauna, needs much better (if any) air conditioning which put me right off my food. To make that worse, no ice was given with tepid bottled water. Wrong drinks given twice. Bad customer service. Staff surly when bespoke request. ‘No we can’t do that.’ No apology given. I thought they were joking at first. It annoyed me which also put me off my food. Won’t be going back.

Sadly didn’t meet our expectations. Staff were friendly but the manager was acting super stressed. The wait time was really long even though it was very quiet in there. I was told my main would come served with ‘really nice potatoes’ but it came with standard fries. And my side salad tasted like fish.

Amazing food and Vermeilla was very good, however when we arrived we were pressured to finish our meal by a certain time, however the waitress that pressured us also didn’t bother to give us any good service throughout the meal. However, the food was amazing and would come back in spite of the poor service from one waitress.

Not a great vibe, the seat was wobbly, we had to put a folded napkin under the table to stop it wobbling.Pasta sauce was very bland, partner left it untouched, it was taken off the bill. Two soggy pieces of bruschetta, badly presented, one with goat's cheese, unpleasant. The bresaola was nice and a good portion but the presentation was hilarious- just a huge bunch of rocket stuck on it.Apart from one pleasant waitress, the service was unsmiling, and there was a very surly member of kitchen staff who walked past several times and stared at me with a very unpleasant look after we complained, and a cook who stared at me from the open kitchen and only stoped after I waved. Probably one of the least pleasant experiences I've ever had at a restaurant; only gave two stars as was with my partner and we laughed about it. This is not why we go out to eat, especially to an Italian restaurant. We paid and will never be back.

We were looking for somewhere to eat after a busy morning at the Christmas markets. Numerous restaurants were unable to accommodate us and whilst walking around we almost missed Salvi’s. I am so glad we didn’t!The restaurant is downstairs in the basement and by chance they had a table. We shared the mixed nibbles starter - v tasty and plenty for 2 followed by a couple of pasta dishes - the gnocchi and pasta with pancetta and courgettes. All food freshly cooked and the buffalo mozzarella was excellent. House red was very pleasant.Even though there were people being turned away because the restaurant was full we did not feel under any pressure to vacate the table. An authentic meal in lovely surroundings. Certainly on my “return to” list next time I am in Manchester. However, next time I will book a table. High risk of disappointment otherwise.

Was really looking forward to visiting. Most of the reviews were positive so we decided to ignore those that were negative. Sort f wished we hadn’t. When we arrived I was really impressed, I liked the feel of the restaurant with the open kitchen. That staff were really pleasant as well. My order of mozzarella to start was delicious and the garlic bread, although slightly over done was also good. That’s where it ends.......we had ordered pizza after seeing the pizzas served at another table. When they arrived they looked great but as soon as you got past the edge of the pizza and into the centre, it was so soggy. I was so disappointed. The restaurant was full but I think that was because there were two concerts on in the area. We wouldn’t visit again.

Came here on Thursday night for a mealWith my partner. We had pre booked asWe didn’t want to take the chance of not getting a table. We arrived and were seated promptly. We had starters each plus a tomato focaccia which was delicious. My partner then had pizza and I had the calzone which was also delicious, I couldn’t finish it as I was quite full fromThe starters. We did not realise there was 40% off so when the bill arrived we couldn’t believe how reasonable it was. Although without the 40% it would have still been very good value. I will definitely go again when in Manchester as it is nice to find a good quality non chain restaurant

The restaurant really gives you the italian vibes, being small and cozy and most of (if not all) the staff are italian. The food was amazing, we were lucky to go in January when they have 40% discount from Thursday to Sunday if we book online. So we had a proper dinner for 4, with appetizers, main course and drinks for only 80 euros. We waited a bit long for someone to take the orders and to bring the food, but it was understandable, considering the fact that the restaurant was full, so if you want to go I suggest to book in advance, otherwise there will be no space. I even forgot to take more pictures of the food, because it looked so well that we started to eat right away. I guess this says a lot about a restaurant, when it really makes you forget about your phone.

After wanting to visit for a long time (I haven’t been in ages), what better time to do so than in the January 40% discount time! Vongole, focaccia, gnocchi and 2 lemonades for £25. Bargain! The food here is absolutely stunning. The pasta is cooked al dente just how it should be and the sauces very authentic. The focaccia dough is the best I have ever eaten. Especially topped with lots of buffalo mozzarella. The gnocchi was too cheesy for me and we had to leave half of the cheese as it was just pure cheese in the end but genuinely a delicious sauce. The service lacked a little today. Took ages for us to be asked if we want a drink and when asked for the focaccia to be brought out with the main meal, it was brought as a starter. I also asked if it was 40% off on arrival and they waited assured us it was and the bill was first brought over full priced. Little things but just annoying really. A lovely meal though and I want to come back to have the mixed seafood spaghetti!

Definitely not one of those copy-cat chain joints to be found in most cities and towns in the UK, but one of those proper Italian places run by people who know their food. After being dragged into several high street chains by family members and found the food unimaginative and expensive, it's great to go to places like this and eat the sort of food the others don't even attempt. The usual cheery Italian-style service, a very varied menu and, for a city centre, reasonable prices. What more can you ask for?

There’s much to like about Salvi’s Cucina on John Dalton Street (unlike their other place at the Corn Exchange where there the space is cramped and the food indifferent). There’s good cooking here and very generous portions. That said, not for the first time, we had minor issues with service. Like the guy not writing down our order, so had to come back and check. Like the guy who brought the starters, asking who was having the meatballs – I said “Me”, my wife pointed to me – so he served them to my wife. Like the second glass of wine which got forgotten and didn’t arrive until after we’d finished eating. It wasn’t wanted then, of course, even when they offered to comp it. Errors can happen in any restaurant but, more importantly, it’s how they deal with it. In this case, by comping dessert and coffee (an impressive way of apologising to my mind). So, whinges over, let’s get to the food.

This was an organised group meal, so can't give a truly definitive view of this restaurant, but the food we had was good, although the pasta could have done with being a bit warmer, and some of the meals took a while to arrive. The staff were clearly under pressure but were quick and efficient whilst retaining a pleasant air. It's all a bit packed-together in what feels like something of a cellar, so I don't know how it might feel if you were there for an intimate dinner, but as a vibrant place for a relatively quick bite it probably does the job.

Came across this place whilst looking for somewhere to go for tea, didn't book a table but were able to get one despite it being quite busy. The upstairs where you walk in is tiny and consists of a little deli and the restaurant is located downstairs in what must have used to be the shop's basement. Either way it was very well done inside and manages to fit in a good number of tables as well as a bar and kitchen! The service was good and the food came quickly but was fantastic with a real authentic Italian feel. Even the drinks they had on the bar were Italian (the Italian cider was rather good!).The bill was a little pricey but not outrageous for a city center restaurant. Overall a great find and would definitely recommend.

We went as a family of 4 for lunch on Saturday before we went to Disney on Ice. I'd found the restaurant online and I thought it looked great and the children's menu was fab which is a big thing for us. First of all it was quite hard to find due to construction going on and you have to enter via the deli entrance and the restaurant is then down stairs. So as we arrived there was no one else in the dining room and we were greeted by a waiter who seated us. He brought us 4 full menus so I asked for the children's menu. He then took drinks orders and went away. We never got a children's menu he just asked if they wanted pizza or pasta. So we knew they would only eat a cheese pizza so that is what we asked for. He then called out to the chefs and off they went. He then took our orders and brought our drinks. About 5 mins later the waiter brought over 2 dishes that were clearly not pizza, and placed them down in front of the children. We asked what it was as we had not actually ordered that! He said it was fried pizza dough with tomato and cheese on top and it was the children's starter. Knowing my children quite well I knew they would not eat all this and then a pizza afterwards so I was slightly annoyed being brought something that I hadn't ordered. Anyway they only ate half so my husband ended up eating the rest. Our meals arrived I'd ordered a calzone as had my husband and were very nice. I did find the dough very thick and had to have my husband help me cut it. My calzone was only folded over just a little with the mozzarella and mushroom inside and my Parma ham placed on the rest in more a pizza style so this also threw me a little. My children's pizzas came and they were quite wet, I understand this is the buffalo mozzarella but it just made the dough soggy. As predicted they didn't even manage half the pizzas and again my husband finished them off as he hates wasting food. The waiter came to clear our plates and then that was where any service finished. We were left sitting at our table for a good 20mins and no one came over to ask about desserts or if we wanted our bill. We could quite easily have walked out and no one would have even noticed. We got tired of waiting so my husband went to the bar where our waiter was and asked if we could pay our bill. It all came to £44 which I was quite shocked about and when I checked the children's menu after they were nearly £8 each for 2 courses and should have also been given a drink which they were not offered. Food was ok but the communication needs to be improved.

Ate at salvis with the better half and we enjoyed a really good dinner.Staff were all friendly lovely little restaurant downstairs and a great little shop upstairs to take home some little treats. The food was lovely and it was almost like being back in Italy the closest I have tasted to the real thing, the pizza Napoli was as good as it was in Rome.Would highly recommend a visit to this great Italian.

We came on a Saturday evening, wasn't hugely busy.We had the mozzarella fried bread and the pizza dough balls. The mozzarella was lovely if not a little greasy, but the dough balls were pretty terrible. The sauce was bland and the balls were cold. The pasta was standard I had the vongole which was just ok, the friend I was with had the pasta and sausage which she said was alright but left quite a lot.All in all it wasn't a great experience, but the staff are so friendly. Don't think I'll be coming back for food here. Which is a shame as they have the potential to make it amazing.

I enjoyed my pizza, but my friend complained about his pasta. When advising the waitress she offered to bring her manager over, which was not required, but we thought she would just take the cost of the food away. I would eat here again as the house red wine is also good value for money.

We actually visited the little bar on the inside of the corn exchange which is ran by Salvis (so I'm told). Cocktails were nice and good value at 2 for £10 - it was also noted that you did get full double spirits so it was nice and strong.Bar man chatty but liked himself

Went here for lunch today. Very disappointing. The mozarella platter was too salty. I ordered the pasta al mare only to be told there was no mussels and no clams. Only 2 types of seafood was in it because they didn't have the ingredients. After the lunch - I felt rather unwell with indigestion. The only good point of this place is that the lady who served us was very friendly. Wouldn't recommend this place I'm afraid and regret going because it wasn't cheap either.

What a wonderful little find in Manchester's Corn Exchange. We just called in for some coffees but the food that people where eating in there looked delicious. Lots of outside seating here for a nice day! great service too - will definitely be back to sample the food!

What a find! A taste of Italy in Manchester's Corn Exchange, and such a pleasant change going to a real Italian family run restaurant, as opposed to the ubiquitous pizza/Italian chains. Why so good? Read on...Fabulous food: try the breads and olives (oh so tasty); followed by the wonderful grilled Italian sausage with caponata (oh goodness me), washed down with a lovely Italian red. The coffee is first class, as one would expect. Service: excellentAmbience: intimate, individual, traditional, very pleasant. Overall: I wish I lived rather closer so that I could go regularly! I'll certainly be sure to visit when I am next in Manchester.

What is this? Napoli? You just enter this place and all of a Sudden you are in southern Italy. Oh my God! If you really want to taste a fresh Mozzarella or Burrata, or having a proper pizza, please, this is the place to go. Made me feel home for a second. Definitely the best Italian Restaurant I have tried in UK so far , and I have tried loads of them. Pizza definitely better than Franco Manca or any other famous pizzeria. We had the special pizza of the week which was with ham, potatoes and burrata! I think I haven't even tried that in Italy, it was absolutely delicious, made our stay in Manchester. The tris of mozzarella cheese was absolutely lush! The Spritz was also very nice I have to say. Price wise, absolutely good for what you eat. The staff is friendly as well and the atmosphere is so italian! They also sell a good range of Italians product that you can't miss if you love food, especially Italian food. Thank you Salvi, that was amazing, if I'll go back to Manchester, I will come again!

The first time I have tried this restaurant and DEFINITELY will come back! Would highly recommend to others. I thought as this place is in the Corn Exchange, it might feel quite chain-y and obvious like a few of the other places which occupy this building, but I was very wrong! I went with my partner on a Sunday afternoon, so it was fairly empty, though I understand it gets busy so glad we booked anyway. We had a delicious bottle of red wine, the 3 salami and 3 mozzarella- wow, I have never had mozzarella like it - melt in your mouth, such good quality! Then for main we had pasta di mare and pasta di vongole- both simple but really delicious, packed with seafood! We hadn't planned on having three courses but because the first two were so wonderful, we had dessert - unctuous chocolate fondant and a beautiful panna cotta, done the authentic way like chilled cream and fresh fruit. Good coffee too! Staff got it just right - attentive but not overly so, friendly and polite. Lovely afternoon spent in this restaurant, so glad we've found it and will be back!! Also want to check out the deli/shop!!

we were looking for somewhere for lunch and spotted Salvis. Sitting out in the sun and eating 'real' Italian food took us back to many good meals in Italy. They have a deli and next time I'm in the centre plan to pick up some of their excellent Mozerella. Very good value and service

Step out of Manchester and step into Italy! A compact and intimate restaurant & deli where you really do soak up the atmosphere of a true Italian restaurant. Fantastic food and great wine, what more could you ask for?! Superb Italian food cooked in front of you by true Italians. I would highly recommend the selection of ham and cheese platter to share for start!

We found this gem a year ago when visiting Manchester and had porchetta and broccoli rabe panini sandwiches and have been dreaming of them for twelve months. We brought six friends with us this time and the owner was as friendly as we remembered and willing to accommodate our large group inside where space is limited. fantastic starters of fresh melt-in-your-mouth mozzarella and bruschetta and sliced meats for our large and hungry group. A sampler of tiramisu, panicotta, and pistachio-fudge bars topped the evening off. We'll be back next year!

We love Italy and Italian food, but in the UK it is very hard to find anything approaching authentically Italian food or really good ingredients, treated with respect, love and knowledge. We have now found that place. If I were in Italy, I would be so pleased to have found such a place, so imagine how pleased we are that we now have one in Manchester! It has a small menu and daily specials on a chalkboard which can all be adapted if you wish- the staff are knowledgeable and friendly- affably Italian. The mozzarella platters are excellent and the pasta is sublime. There are only a few small tables inside but a lovely atmosphere of intimacy without stuffiness. Yes, it may be more expensive that a chain serving Anglicised 'Italian' food, but it is exceptional value for the quality of what you eat and the way in which it is cooked and served. You will leave feeling like part of the family and planning your next trip back (next Wednesday, I hope!)

When asking for a bill the waiter said £5 he didn't bring a bill which was odd and I thought it was a bit steep for two normal cups of tea.So went inside to find a price list.He said oh sorry . It should have been £1.80 a cup not £2.50 the price on a list on the wall.Sue Macclesfield

We went for coffee and cakes on a nice summer evening. We were greeted and sat by a waitress who's knowledge of English was more limited than my knowledge of quantum physics. The question of "what desserts do you have" was far too complex and took an extended conversation where i had to ask in every phrase i could think of to ask the question and resulted in me giving up and going inside and simply pointing at a cake. When we received the said cake it was stale and dry and the whole experience was very poor. I don't blame the waitress, who was trying her best, but while it is nice to get an authentic experience the owners should really be ashamed for hiring staff who have zero grasp of the local language.

Nice relaxed space. Great cuts of steak, fresh and flavourful sauces, crisp hot fries, nice wine and cocktails. Brilliant gluten free options. And all very reasonably priced - steak, chips, sauce, and a glass of wine gave me change from £20! Well worth a casual lunch trip.
