Great breakfast, good choice (even for vegetarians/vegans) and friendly helpful staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast - next time we might even try the breakfast cocktail …

Unfortunately, although the cafe is supposed to be open until 4pm they had closed by 2pm!? They do have a branch at the swimming pool on the Oban Rd which is pretty basic and not licensed but which did have an excellent haggis and cheese wrap.

Visited a couple of times while passed through Lochgilphead. The town waterfront has been recently spruced up and looks good but overall it is clear that hospitality businesses here have really struggled recently eg most pubs have closed. So it’s good to see a cafe such as this make a real go of it in such challenging times. Menu choice is good and standard of food is excellent. Very friendly and welcoming service.

Quite a nice cafe, but overpriced This is quite a nice cafe but they have put their prices up quite a but recently and in my opinion it's a bit of a rip off We had a couple of breakfasts, think it was 12 odd quid. Even a sandwich is about £8. They've done away with their soup and a sandwich deal so now if you want that it's £5 for soup and then an extra £8 for a sandwich. It's more like hotel prices than a wee local cafe. We used to go quite a lot but won't be going back, it's just too expensive, although i appreciate their costs may have gone up and they have to charge this to make ends meet.

The food was delicious and staff were polite and kind. My husband and son were taking me out for an early mother's day treat. And what a treat it was when I saw the cracknell cakes that I haven't seen since primary school! The lentil soup was delicious, husband loved his burger and son enjoyed his double hotdog. Brownies are nice and fudgy too! Would come back again. Great service.

Dreary soulless cafe. We were only people in, the owner/mangeress gave monosyllabic answers to simple questions. Took ages to take order, after giving us our order disappeared back into kitchen, had to search her out to pay bill. Despite the summer season just starting the whole place could have done with a lick of paint and tidy up. Scottish hospitality at its worst

Salty Dog Cafe does an excellent menu including vegan options, daily specials and the most amazing cakes. Very often there is even a choice of vegan cake. The home made soup is excellent and again a vegan option is nearly always available. The quality of the food is superb and exceedingly good value. The owner and her team are all most friendly and hospitable. Eilidh makes beautiful creative celebration cakes and also offers a school kid’s lunch deal.

Called in for a light lunch, which was simple but lovely, carrot cake amazing, also went for breakfast, I would have given full marks were it not for the French toast which is £6.50 with bacon, I requested without bacon but was charged the same price. Expensive for 3 half slices of bread dipped in egg. Fried egg roll £2.

We visited at lunch time, hubby had a baked potato with cheese and haggis, I had the french toast with bacon. It was nice enough. Dog friendly which was good for us. Very disappointed with the caramel ice cream milkshake, it was like something from the 70’s. Just milk with flavouring - no sign of the promised ice cream. White hot chocolate very weak. The Salty Dog Cafe is FABULOUS. It's a fantastic boost to Lochgilphead's offer and is well worth a visit. The home baking is out of this world; the daily specials are truly amazing and they often have gluten-free options too. The food is also great - fresh and tasty, and the breakfasts deserve a very special mention. Last but by no means least, the coffee is awesome - and give the white hot chocolate a try. Look out for the giant Jaffa cakes too! Friendly service is always on the menu. It's fast become my favourite go-to place for weekend coffee and cakes.
