Great little find. The food was beautiful and the atmosphere was homely. Friendly staff and dog friendly too. Lemon cheesecake and carrot cake were delicious. We will be back for sure. Thank you. Angela, Brian and Sasha the German Shepherd x

I wrote an honest review on trip advisor of my experience when at this cafe. It’s been removed twice as the owner doesn’t seem to like my honesty! I bought 2 slices of cake at this cafe and put pictures of them to show the size they sold me at £2.25 per slice along with my opinion of this! What’s the point of a review site with evidence from the reviewer if the owner can have a review removed. Attached 2 photos again of the cake. I gave the owner 2 opportunities to rectify this at the time, I commented on the size of the slice and the waitress wanted to take away the small piece of 1 portion and replace it with a very slightly bigger slice! I called the cafe to speak to the manager and she declined to come to the phone. I put up a fair and honest review, it was deleted, I put up another review, it was deleted. You could just do the decent thing and apologise instead of messaging me and name calling! I’m not a troll, I write fair and honest reviews check out my other reviews on that trip.

You never got an award for nothing!!!Your food is amazing and customer service is fantastic.Huge well done to you and your staff.Any complaints during the corona virus I notice are from people out with our area and also travelling around scotland breaking covid rules. Heading to the Mull of Kintyre to play golf and the lads wanted a hot roll on the way so we decided to stop at the Salty dog , it was well worth it !!! 30 mins later we were on our way after having a lovely roll with sausage and bacon and hot coffees (Greedy , I know). They had a wonderful selection of home made baking and a great specials board which catered for everyone. Who I assumed was the boss was hard at it keeping her customers busy. If you ever in Lochgilphead try the Salty dog , you won’t regret it !

So glad to find this gem of a cafe with indoor seating and very “covid-friendly“. The coffee was excellent and the cakes absolutely huge! And very very tasty. I only wish I lived nearby so I could be a regular!

This is a small, basic, local cafe but dogs are welcome and the cakes are fresh. I had a scone which was still warm from the oven and was delicious.

Called in for a light lunch, which was simple but lovely, carrot cake amazing, also went for breakfast, I would have given full marks were it not for the French toast which is £6.50 with bacon, I requested without bacon but was charged the same price. Expensive for 3 half slices of bread dipped in egg. Fried egg roll £2.

Friday night in Lochgilphead - a Chinese, an Indian. a chippie and a hotel serving residents only ( although they said we could bring a chippie into their bar!)!! Thank goodness for the Salty Dog! Lovely food, well cooked and presented and well priced. But why were we the only customers? They so deserve to be busy! Dog friendly too,

We visited at lunch time, hubby had a baked potato with cheese and haggis, I had the french toast with bacon. It was nice enough. Dog friendly which was good for us. Very disappointed with the caramel ice cream milkshake, it was like something from the 70’s. Just milk with flavouring - no sign of the promised ice cream. White hot chocolate very weak. Waitress/ owner was very nice

Have just had lunch at the Salty Dog, Minestrone Soup (huge dishful) and baked potato with fillings and both were great. Good homely atmosphere with no frills and attentive staff. Great display of home made cakes - just wish I had room to taste them!

There were some lovely snacks on offer I had the houmous and pitta bread which was sufficient for a light lunch. The waitress was polite and helpful. The cafe was clean with a friendly ambience as we enjoyed a chat with other patrons at nearby tables. Island hopping around Scotland was discussed so we now know Harris is closed on Sundays.

The lunch menu was good and I was delighted with the soup and service. However, the decor and toilet is in need of an upgrade as it lets down the food etc.

The Salty Dog Cafe is FABULOUS. It's a fantastic boost to Lochgilphead's offer and is well worth a visit. The home baking is out of this world; the daily specials are truly amazing and they often have gluten-free options too. The food is also great - fresh and tasty, and the breakfasts deserve a very special mention. Last but by no means least, the coffee is awesome - and give the white hot chocolate a try. Look out for the giant Jaffa cakes too! Friendly service is always on the menu. It's fast become my favourite go-to place for weekend coffee and cakes.
