Had a wonderful meal. 6 people starters mains desserts and milkshakes! Amazing service both gotlw were on their 1st shift but you would never have known. All the food was top quality they have tue best chips in the world! 10/10 all round

Very busy, lucky to get a table. Varied and extensive menu for lunch but we opted for a ( toasted baguette) panini. Breakfast seems the thing to have here though. Friendly and efficient service.

Just had a fantastic breakfast here. Locally sourced ingredients which were full of flavour. Staff are friendly and we were both very impressed. We will be back

This place is brilliant in so many ways - the food is excellent in quality, as well as generous portions and good value for the money. Staff are friendly too and the whole layout just seems nice and relaxed. We have eaten here a number of times and are looking forward to going back again soon.

Not gr8 today , my friend had the chicken burger with chips , it was awful , most of the chips were so hard that she couldn't put a fork in them , the burger was very undercooked , very pink, she did mention this to the waitress who collected the dishes but no response from her at all & it was obvious the food had been picked over & most of it left , she was told by the owner's wife it was the French way !! Well , it isn't a French restaurant & the others weren't pink either , I will say the salmon I had was perfect but neither one of us will be back as customer satisfaction is obviously not important

Great choice for breakfast. makes the best eggs Royal but really good choice on the menu. been here couple of times for lunch too and the specials have been really good. staff pleasant and prices moderate.

Very glad to see standards are being maintained here, and my medium full English was as good as the first time I visited. And still with a nice warm plate which is so important.

Food was good but service could be better. There was no greeting to begin with, just straight to “what can I get for you” even after waiting since it was a little busy. Waitress also weirdly did not make an any eye contact but did with my partner, overall felt a bit odd. We live local so was looking forward to it being a usual spot but not maybe not…

Our family visited on a very wet Saturday and our grandchildren and our two dogs were made extremely welcome. Very accommodating and friendly staff, extensive breakfast menu, high quality food and the best coffee we’ve had for a long time. All this and great value for money. Thoroughly recommend.

This was our first visit, Wow! Food brilliant, Staff brilliant. Great atmosphere and very attentive staff. This has to be the best bistro in Herne Bay. They also made a fuss of our dog who was made to feel at home. We will come back time and time again. Thank you for such a great experience and food.

Excellent all day breakfast, served on a hot plate, which is increasing uncommon these days, alas. Service was quick, cheerful and efficient. Great all round, and a fair price to boot!

First visit, only heard about this place last night. Asked for an extra hot coffee, and got it, no problems. Ordered the medium breakfast and this all looked good with meat and tomatoes having a good cooked with decent grilled colour, which you rarely get especially with tomatoes. Eggs nicely cooked with medium runniness and a tasty plain potato cake. What tells me that they care is the fact that the plate was lovely and WARM. Ever so important, tells me a lot. Cheerfully paid the fair level price. Will come again.

I like dogs BUT !! was very surprised to see a dog sat on a chair nosing a table in the middle of the cafe. Hardly hygienic. The coffee was ok ,but did not seem to be a latte more half & half ? The menu looks very appetising , but was only here for a quick coffee

A lovely little bistro with friendly staff and a good lunch menu, plus specials board. I had the king prawns in garlic butter on special, served with chips and dressed salad. The prawns were huge, juicy and perfectly cooked. The chips were hand cut and crispy on the outside. Very tasty and piping hot.

Social distancing in full force, less tables giving safer eating place. This sadly means you will fight to get a table. Wait to be seated. Table service and payment taken so less moving around the cafe. Nice brunch breakfast well cooked, nice portions, perfectly cooked...

Visited for lunch today and what a great lunch we had. I had a fantastic Crab Monsieur served with a lovely themidor sauce, chips and salad from the specials board, and my partner had Eggs Royal, made with salt and lights own home smoked salmon....

Visited a few times for breakfast and lunch and have never been disappointed. My favourite breakfast has to be the Kedgeree. You can't whack it!

We were greeted by the sweetest staff! Super friendly and helpful! We had a baby and they were fully equipped to have us. Changing table, microwave to warm baby food..Also had a children’s play corner where our 5yo played. And our dog was also welcome!! With water and a cuddle.Great service! Highly recommend it!!

Homemade and super hot served with veggies. Very nice. Not too garlicky. Bring your own alcohol etc. Really nice meal. Small cafe that opens now on Friday and Saturday evenings. Hidden gem. Lovely steaks.

Our favourite cafe in Herne Bay as they do fantastic cooked breakfast. Also the mussels in tomato and chilli pasta is excellent. Friendly staff, just a shame they are not open on Sunday and they don't have any dairy free cakes.

So the soup is norally good comes with a slice of bread. Jacket potato good value. Sandwiches always are made with fresh bread. Drinks average price. All food nice quality. Friendly service.

Went here yesterday for the first time yesterday. Usually we go to the green door we we love ,but thought we would have a change. I’m glad we did food was lovely I had. Jacket potato with coronation chicken which I would say was defiantly home made, big slices of chicken in a delicious creamy coronation sauce. My friend had the medium all day breakfast that was the best breakfast she had ever had, and it was a very good size . The staff were very nice , nice ambiance There’s nothing we would change about it. will defiantly go back

Another lovely little café in Herne Bay with quite a few tables and lots of space for people with prams! The food is good - the portions are huge! The service is great and I'd like to come back here for dinner to see what else they can do. it's not the cheapest, but I would like to give it another go.

Eight of us went last night for a Christmas meal. Lovely setting, charming waitress, and the food was the best I have had in a long time with a good selection reasonably priced. You can also take your own drink at no extra charge, Herne Bay needs restaurants like this.

Visited last night for evening meal...there was 10 of us and for most of us our first visit. The main point I would say is how good our waitress was .she was the only member of staff...and was polite, welcoming and gave excellent service all night, I was so impressed by the quality of food...we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and there was not one complaint!! The Beef Wellington was outstanding...and served with piping hot fresh veg. My spiced parsnip soup was equally as good, and a really decent portion. All in all I was really impressed, and look forward to trying lunch soon. Well done.

British fare - good substantial food well cooked - and presented, served by friendly staff . Its priced reasonably , coffee is good , offers more than some others in the vicinity. Frequented by locals which is always a good sign!

Recently won a competition for a free meal at the salt and light. Safe to say everything was amazing! The food was lovely and very tasty and the waitress (Summer) who looked after us was very accommodating and lovely! We will definitely be back again!

Have been twice to this cafe, once for lunch and once for breakfast. Its great to find a cafe in the U.K. doing the simple stuff very well. Service is friendly and very quick, wonderful atmosphere in bright clean surroundings. The Lunch menu is great if you are looking for something different. A little fine tuning on the coffee making might not go a miss. But very pleased.

We had a big group of 14 of us and managed to pre-book a table for Saturday lunch.

We made the mistake of ordering prawn sandwiches. Prawns are on the menu as a filling for jacket potatoes. We were charged £6.75 each for a less than generous amount of small prawns in ready sliced supermarket bread. When we queried the price we were told it was because "they're not on the menu".

We’ve visited this place on an almost weekly basis for a while now and can only ever say positive things about it and encourage everyone and anyone to visit! The staff are delightful, they accommodate for toddlers and vegetarians. The food is always delicious and the drinks too. There is such a lovely warm and relaxed atmosphere and the fight to get a table is further evidence of what a fabulous place this is!

Mrs CB had a busy morning, we needed something light but enough to take edge off, we have previiously been to this establishment on a few occaisions for sandwiches and cakes - we were greeted by the team in a helpful positive manor and shown to our table. After some coaxing I was persuaded to have the light breakfast, outstanding! Nice full flavour sausages, bacon cooked just right a choice of tomatoes or mushrooms, toast, the egg also cooked just right and with a scoop of beans, could not fault it! Mrs CB had the tuna melt, huge sandwich with lashings of tuna and cheese - most enjoyable break from the Saturday grind

I had a meal out with the family tonight and it was a delight!

I came her with a friend for a meal. When we arrived at 7 the place was empty, we sat down and everything seemed fine until we ordered our starters, deep fried Brie, we called waitress over and said the the Brie was still solid inside and was cold, she apologised and ordered two more! They then came out and my one was ok this time but my friends one was still solid and cold inside, clearly was not cooked enough otherwise it would have melted and been hot! She called the waitress over and said I’m sorry but my one still isn’t cooked and is still cold! She said our chef has 20 years experience and knows what he’s doing! We don’t have complaints about it at our whitstable branch (clearly a different Chef). We tried to explain that it needs cooking a little bit longer but she was not having any of it and said well that’s how its done and walked off! very unprofessional and now a very uncomfortable atmosphere. She then came over and collected the plates without even speaking. After 5 mins my friend said excuse me where are the toilets please, again waitress would not look up and just said over there!! Clearly she had the hump cause we mentioned our starter wasn’t cook through like it should have been!! My friend came and said "can I have the bill please" she said "he's already made the meals” that's fine I will pay for them but I'm not prepared to stay here with your attitude" She NEVER swore at the waitress like the Chef (Owner) has accused her of and considering he wasn’t even in the room (he was in the Kitchen) how can he even comment!! Came here last night with a friend, we have been wanting to try it for a while and read really good reviews so expecting a lovely meal. However.....upon arrival we were greeted by the waitress to told us to sit where we like as aside from another booking there was no one else in, we both ordered the deep fried Brie, it came out and looked amazing, however was stone cold in the middle, the waitress said she would sort it, she bought more out and mine was still ice cold and solid in the middle, again I mentioned it to her and said I couldn’t eat it, she proceeded to tell me they’re not supposed to be gooey and the chef should know as he’s been a chef for 20years, when asked why my friends was gooey then, she took the plates and walked off! Then came with cutlery for our mains, put it on the table without saying a word or even looking at us and again walked off! I then went to ask where the toilet was, her reply “over there” her attitude was awful! When I came back from the toilet i asked for the bill (even though only one starter was eaten we were prepared to pay for all) as we decided it was just such a horrible atmosphere and we no longer wanted to be there, I was told “well he’s made the mains already” I said that’s fine I will pay, we just wanted to get out, to which I was told “just get out and go, I don’t need you being abusive” I asked how on earth was I being abusive when I’ve just asked for the bill to pay for food we hadn’t eaten, to again be told “just go” I have never met such a rude person, so you can thank your waitress for your till being down last night, we certainly will not be returning.

I have visited many times during the day and love to pop in and treat myself to a BIG breakfast!! Not for the faint hearted I might add - big is not an adequate description!

Had lunch with a friend here recently and it was fabulous! Just happened upon it on a walkabout and was so pleased we went in. She had French Toast with bacon and maple syrup. I had a breakfast that consisted of - sausage, bacon, beans, mushrooms, potato and a round of toast, plus a coffee. All for under a fiver! Good quality food and good service as well. Just as an aside, the toilet was fab. Check it out!

Never knew this place existed but we dropped in before seeing a film at the Kavanagh (5 mins walk away) and were genuinely delighted with our meal. Highly recommend the warm sticky duck noodle salad, and the chocolate pudding is superb. all home made, delicious and pretty good value. £45 for 2 mains, 2 deserts and 2 coffees.

Breakfast had good quality ingredients but they were all at different temperatures,sausages were tepid,beans were boiling,one bacon hot,one not.Not helped by a cold plate.Nice pot of tea though.

Definitely worth a visit. We have eaten here several times for lunch and the evening service that has recently been offered. Meals prepared using high quality ingredients and are alway delicious. You are able Take your own wine for evening meal if you choose. Pay a visit and you won’t be disappointed

Popped in for breakfast,I had eggs benedict and my partner had a large breakfast.Eggs were spot on,good flavour and well cooked.The breakfast was a bad,cold toast cold black pudding and literally swimming in grease which rendered the whole thing inedible.They forgot to include a potato scone and the bubble was defrosted frozen mash which the waitress nipped out to buy from Iceland while we were waiting with a bit of spinach in it.A really poor,lazy effort and the table wasn't wiped down from the previous people.The meal was uneaten so we weren't charged for it but still a big let down especially given how good my meal was.

My daughter and I were trying to find a place for a quick lunch that would accommodate a pram and my 4 month old Grandson..... Look no further......light airy and roomy, with a lovely 'childrens corner' for toddlers and comfy welcoming leather sofas. The lady on front of house was friendly and welcoming, the food is bought to the table personally by the chef, Luke, which we thought was a really lovely touch. Great value for money, generous portions and good quality food......it will definitely be our 'local' when visiting Herne Bay..... we will definitely be returning.....keep up the good work

I’ve eaten here 3 times for breakfast now and each time it has been absolutely fantastic! I’m not easily pleased with food, but this place is just what the bay needs. I had the large breakfast, a full English with potato scone, bubble & squeak, black pudding, Two sausage, bacon, eggs, tomatoes and beans with a slice of toast. All were perfectly cooked and delicious. We’re not talking about cheap food, all was top quality food lovingly prepared.

I came here a few weeks back and the food was fab. It is my friends birthday this coming week so said I would treat her to lunch.... between us we decided to come back but wish we hadn’t. My friend had a panini and I a goat cheese salad.... tucking in I found mouldy tomato! The waitress didn’t come over to ask how our food was and I couldn’t grab her attention either. Anyway I ate what I could and when the waitress collected our plates I quietly said ‘I’m sorry but the tomatoes are mouldy’ to which her reply was ‘I will have to get the chef to check his eyesight’ I was still charged for this item which I found appalling! I like supporting local business but I won’t be returning again

Quick lunchtime visit. I had sausage onion and cheese panini. Husband had burger. Both very tasty and well presented. Very friendly and helpful service. Will definitely visit again.

This cafe is most definitely shinning above others! My wife and I went in for breakfast and credit where credit is due. Outstanding is the word that fits.

Found by accident, glad I did the lady saw my companion, (chameleon), he was welcomed in, we enjoyed a tremendous all day breakfast,lovely quality and value,not a greasy spoon,very friendly staff this establishment is not fancy but down to earth and clean.

Perfect start to the day. Good coffee and tasty veggie sausage in a bap. Also tempted by their lovely deli products to take home. Large sourdough loaf and chutneys both locally made were delicious. Home made lemon drizzle cake was also scrumptuous.

This place was nice when it was the pantry - but even better now. We were up early and wanted breakfast. Usually our options are fairly limited ( as is breakfast!) but Salt & Light has changed things. Fresh mushrooms, fried potatoe cakes, sausages from Rooks and a decent cup of coffee.

Spent a week in Herne Bay and have visited this lovely little place 3 times. Good coffee and a fabulous breakfast which was too large for me to finish.

We went to one of their pop-up restaurant evenings, and the food was delicious - both had mussels and then steak which were both cooked perfectly, and then different desserts which were lovely too.

I had a great 'Large breakfast' here, grilled mushrooms, local butcher's sausages, a potato scone, black pudding, eggs and bacon. (No advertised 'bubble & sqeak' though) Good quality stuff, no bland pink sausages here. As he name suggests too, it's a light, airy cafe with much more than breakfast on offer. A deli promises to come soon and freshly-made picnic hampers perfect for a local day at the beach. Long live Salt and Light.

Visited with my daughter after school on a Thursday. We were the only people in there! Beautifully redecorated inside and a very relaxed atmosphere. Friendly man serving us, who brought out a lovely chocolate milkshake for my daughter and a skinny mocha for myself.

We went here for tea and cake. We had apple sponge cake, and coffee and walnut cake . Absolutely brilliant! The service was excellent and the venue light and airy.

Been here a couple of times since the New owner took over. Excellent all day veggie breakfast very tasty home made soup and lovely staff. We will be back soon.

My husband and I had the all day breakfast for lunch, it was really tasty and plenty of it. I'm quite fussy with sausages and like them with flavor, I'm pleased to say the sausages were yummy. The staff were lovely and friendly and very welcoming. They have a little area with drawing stuff, books and a tea set which kept my son occupied. Thank you for a lovely lunch. Highly recommend.

Today was our first visit to Salt and Light. The lunch was lovely; we both had paninis. And the apple cake...wow. Will definitely be back!

After being renovated, the inside looks very nice with the new addition of some sofas that look exceptionally comfortable. I love going in here for coffee with my Gran, the staff are very friendly and the coffees are very nice.

Popped in for a light lunch we both had paninis which were lovely & 2 cappuccinos,all very reasonably priced the decor is nicely done to we highly recommend
