Omg they were truly nasty. Women, please avoid this place at all costs. The staff were scary. Don't eat here, go somewhere else!!

I came in to order food, but they made me feel like trash. My friends and i were having such a lovely evening, but they made us feel so scared. We heard the staff behind the counter whispering about us. It really made us scared.

You have no right to expect fine dining from a kebab shop that caters to fellow drunkards. Even with that caveat in mind, this food was very bad. Thankfully, I resisted the urge, but my brother (who had just been married that day!) was unfortunate enough to get the 'chicken wings', whereas another brother had a kebab and was up most of the night vomiting as a result. Steer clear, fellow revellers.

Came here after having a night out with my friends in York & ordered a margarita with chips and garlic and was charged £16, I thought to myself that’s a little more than anticipating but when I checked their menu I should have been charged £12.50 which I brought this to their attention! However, my thoughts were how many other people are they over charging. Be careful ordering here & check the amounts

Half the order was missing!! delivery driver said the people at the restaurant were rude stood around ignoring him and not working at all.

It was a very bad experience! Went to get food and as they thought we had been drinking they upped the price and we ordered what we wanted and it was a tiny potion and they then gave our second order to someone else then they realised so swapped it with those people and then tried to give us food someone else had already touched. Staff were rude and very unpleasant. Do not recommend

Absolute trash - portions are tiny and overpriced. Ordered chips, cheese and gravy and was given the smallest portion of FRIES, cheese and gravy - I didn’t order FRIES, I ordered CHIPS. Heavily disappointed. Wouldn’t come here again - don’t waste your money.

Wrong burger delivered, restaurants fault nothing to do with the driver. Food decent but ordered a burger with doner & cheese and got jalapeños instead of doner. Also no salad as described as included

Perfectly situated right by the bus stop, we had a lovely kebab and chips cheese and Gravy to finish off the night. Seats too if you want to eat in! Very friendly staff. Thank you!

Absolutely shambolic establishment. Mystery meat barely cooked, cheese like rubber and warm drinks cans. Obviously just caters for drunks who are too inebriated to notice the standard of fare on offer. Avoid.

Omg absolutely horrible. Never in my life have i had a takeaway so bad. They sell parmo! Im from Teesside where a parmo is from! This is not a parmo garlic sauce is like water £33!!! Not worth £5 honestly it was so bad.

We were in a great mood, arrived and asked what we could get for around £10. We were sternly told only chicken in a pitta. When we suggested maybe a kebab or something else the woman reiterated only the chicken pitta, served it, then flounced off into the kitchen, after lobbing extra lettuce on it. Absolutely horrendous specimen (the food), and from reading these reviews, looks like this wasn’t a one off. Absolute disaster, would not recommend.

The worst of everything I could ever imagine, from ordering, being served and then eating food- any food, ever. Avoid unless you want to feel insulted, hungry and like you've just played some sort of awful takeaway lottery and lost all your money (tip- there's no winning in here, and you'll want to throw yourself in the river after playing)

I don't know how this place is still open. I wish I'd had read the reviews on this place before going. The food is inedible, undercoat and disgusting. Putting people at risk with thw food they're serving.

It's not Michelin star material, but it's in a great location and serves you good food pretty quickly. Prices have gotten pretty high, but that might just be inflation and no one else seems to mind.

Salt and Pepper is a student favourite for a reason! After a really problematic man started to cause problems here he was immediately removed by very professional security who quickly dealt with him in spite of his behaviour. We were made to feel incredibly safe by all the staff and we really can’t thank them enough! It’s truly how all businesses should run

Never reviewed anywhere before but salt and pepper are absolute icons they kicked a homophobe out immediately when he started causing chaos we love salt and pepper they slayed the house down boots for real.

Prices may be quite high but food is great! Extremely student friendly! Had a guy come up to us saying some pretty rude stuff and was kicked out straight away! They went out of their way to make sure we were safe and felt comfortable inside.

Honestly the most vile undercooked disgusting and OVERPRICED takeaway I’ve ever been to Do not go here! Literally became terminally ill because of the food! The only reason I ever went here in the first place is because I thought it was cheaper and it wasn’t, it’s even more expensive than some of the nicer restaurants in York. For example they WILL NOT change accurate for a donnar pizza like normal restaurants they will charge for an XL margarita pizza and XL donnar kebab on top! This is almost double the price of every other take away we’ve been to in York, in the area and it tastes absolutely disgusting because they don’t cook it properly and not only that, the staff are abusive towards women and threaten to rape women that are alone! Stay away from this restaurant they are utterly vile in nature!!!! It’s honestly my most vile place I have ever been to in my whole experience DO NOT EAT AT SALT AND PEPPER YORK

You get just pizza for some reasonable money but most of the time food is too salty. Customer service is terrible, they just act with some busy attitude. We visit this place just because it’s one of the easily reachable places in York city if you want to hangout till late night.

Worst takeaway I've ever had, cprices very over the top, quality non existent. Paid £28 and put it in the bin. Never go there unless your out of your tree and brain is non existent, then they can take your money and your none the wiser. Vile food.

Just avoid. Over priced and very salty donner kebab. For £9 I got a pitta bread with a small amount of donner meat in a small tray which was very salty. Better values for money in Cities such as Manchester or London.

Absolutely awful, chicken kebab for £10 was undercooked, raw, and chucked on top of the pitta bread. Threw in the bin in front of the staff and they didn't ask what the problem was at all. Look him I the eye and told them it was raw and they didn't even apologise. During cooking the chef was watching porn on his phone! The premises is filthy, and bins overflowing give it a miss even if you are pissed

Would give it zero stars if I could. Asked for a chicken kebab and cheesy chips. Only after id paid did they tell me they had run out of sauce and salad? They charged me £15.50 for this - disgusting

My meat feast pizza was lacking in the main thing I wanted in my pizza (MEAT)!!!! Must have had 3 small tiny cubes of meat and few slices of pepperoni…!!!! How can they get this sooo wrong .. NO WAY GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE MONEY!! My first time using this place ,and the last !! My wife’s margarita was covered in far too much tomato base and that tasted funny !!! Even simple pizza is a struggle for this place !! Don’t go in here and waste your money. Never again,visiting York for first time too !!

Anything with curry sauce is goated, the best place to get food after a night out. Pizzas are godly. The staff are lovely.

Most of the time they will ask you they accept card. I had experienced that i paid 2x for single order which cost me 20pound. Their card machine does not printing a receipt, so you would'nt know if how much you paid. But, they will ask you to tap your card 2x,but no receipt. If you will ask for receipt,they will give a receipt printed on the cash register,not coming from the card machine. I had only found out that they charge me 2x on my phone banking. So i told them immediately and gave my refund. And they did it TWICE to me on different occasions. So better pay them in cash if you want to try their food. And 2x also that i have missing chickens, I bought 20 pound for 20pcs chicken wings, but when i got home its only 18pcs. happened 2x also. Kindly check your order if take out before leaving the store.

Very expensive and not very nice food

Be careful when ordering from these con-artists / scammers! Ordered from here for the second time in a few months ( only ordered the second time because nothing else was open) BOTH times they accepted my order which I didn't receive on either occasion but still took payment! Rang the shop many times to see where my order was but they never answer the phone. Had to contact Food Hub next day to get a refund. Having read other reviews it seems it has happened to other people & it's a pattern here. So think twice before ordering as you may get ripped off, they take your money but you dont get your food! Dodgy place wants investigating!

Sorry but couldn’t eat the Donna Kebab. The meat was under cooked and tasteless and the lettuce was sour. Should have known when red cabbage wasn’t available that this was not the real deal. Search for a good kebab continues in York.

Luke warm undercooked chips but the bun for my veggie burger was burnt black and hard as a rock. Having not eaten for 8 hours, I should have been happy with anything but it was an effort to force it down.

Nunca he comido algo así, pedí kebab de pollo y desearía nunca haberme molestado. El pollo fue el peor pollo que he tenido en mi vida, pequeños bultos de basura. La salsa de ajo era vil, no estoy seguro de lo que sabía peor el pollo o la salsa de ajo. Tuve que pedir un pan de pitta que estaba duro y estoy seguro de que para obtener pan de pitta con un kebab no tener que pedirlos. También era demasiado caro, ahora no me importa pagar por la comida si está bien, pero cuando ni siquiera le das de comer a tu perro es porque está diciendo algo. Evitar a toda costa

absolute life saver after a night out

1 star is being generous. Imagine being called salt and pepper and selling nothing salt and pepper. Baffled. Donner meat like rubber. Chips and cheese disgusting. They seem quite proud of their horrendous service too. With a bouncer stood on the door smoking his e-cig. What a place. . .

Overall, a bit dodgy but needed after a night out. I don't think I'd ever come here when completely sober; there are far nicer places to go in York that are only a little more expensive. After a night out, it's a different story entirely. Salt & Pepper is best enjoyed at 2am, when you've just left a club or bar and need some cheesy chips to delay the inevitable crash you're going to have the next day. The food itself is quite edible, although I have been charged 3 different prices for the same portion of chips. You can get soft drinks here, but I don't think I've ever seen someone order one. The hygiene rating is questionable at best, but mostly good enough from what I can tell. I've never had any issues with the food here. There's a small amount of seating available inside, in case you don't intend on just smuggling your food onto the bus or sitting on a bike stand outside.

I ordered a seafood pizza and I got given tuna and cheese for £7 it is ridiculous the guy behind the bar even said I’m sorry it’s only tuna and cheese I thought we would be getting prawns and muscles on it but....

Over priced, disgusting food! Do not go £7 for a kebab and it’s was awful!!!!! Their are plenty of nice take aways in the centre I suggest eating anywhere else other then this dirt hole!
