Very disappointed with my recent visit. The chips and sausage didn’t taste very good, probably the worse I have ever had and for £10.80 the portion sizes were pretty small. The chips weren’t cooked long enough. We asked to sit in the restaurant after ordered as it was empty and was rudely told that we couldn’t sit there as it’s a separate menu. The women that served us said all tables were reserved even though there were no signs and then what seemed like the manager said that there is a different menu when sitting down. I said we would pay more but they wouldn’t allow this and the man seemed annoyed that we even asked. We were there with a young child who was cold and tired from walking so asked to sit down and I am recovering from cancer treatment so was very fatigued and just needed to sit down for 20 minutes. I thought an empty restaurant when I paid over a tenner for a small meal would be allowed. I am a local and eat out a lot with friends and this is one place I will not be coming back to. Guys sort your customer service out and treat your customers with some respect.

I’ve loved salt and malt for years usually drive to the chew valley one but didn’t have time. Slightly sad that this occasion was no where near the same standard for them the batter is not batter it looks like fried chicken skin not crispy fluffy batter that usually comes on their fish and the curry sauce tastes so overpowering aniseed taste, I’m not sure what happened had to chuck it. The fish inside the skin was ok and chips were ok but not their usual standard maybe I caught them on an off day. The atmosphere felt very flat too. I will come again but just wanted to feedback because I know it’s not the usual standard.

Upon entering the premises to dine in, a sign tells you to wait to be seated. After a few minutes in what wasn't a particularly busy restaurant, the moody lady behind the counter decided to ignore us whilst storming around the place. Not even an acknowledgement that they would be with us in a few minutes. At this point we decide to leave and take our custom elsewhere.

Fish dishes very fresh and tasty. Fish soup too. Unfortunately, peas without seasoning are not our thing, but there was salt for seasoning. The oysters were super fresh. Unfortunately I didn't know that "Classic" means they come with a vinegar sauce and onions on the oysters (my mistake, should have asked). I just prefer them with lemon. Otherwise very friendly service, nice selection.

The Fish, Fish cakes, sausages etc are good here. But a couple of times. Especially last delivery the chips were terrible. They're using the wrong potatoes. The chips were very hard, rubbery and bad texture all round. Chips should be crispy and soft texture in the middle. Sort the potato variety out. 👍

Takeaway is great but eating in was very disappointing. For double the price the portion of chips is less than half the size when you eat in and on this occasion we were served old chips that were pretty stale and had clearly not been cooked recently. Go when it is busy to get fresher food I guess.

Didn’t want to give a bad score as I know this place is great! Fish was excellent just a shame about the curry sauce tasting watered downs and the chips were even under cooked… something wasn’t right with them both the same as the usual standard. Hopefully better next time 🤗

First of all, the mussels are the best I’ve had in the UK—so fresh and sweet! The bottom of the dish is filled with a creamy sauce, enriched with parsley and olive oil, making it both rich and refreshing. The haddock fish and chips are also quite good, with the haddock being tender and fresh. Everything else was enjoyable as well. And as a fun touch, the oyster shell used as a bill holder was adorable. I’ll definitely be coming back for those mussels!

What a delicious fish and chips. They have a bit different fish and chips than the traditional one, as inside more juicy which I loved it. If you're a fish and chips lover like me, you'd definitely try this one. I've got large cod&chips plus tartar sauce and paid £13.50 which as a Londoner, it was a good price for me and for sure is well worth it.

We came to Salt and Malt back in May. My partner booked for our date night and it was such a pleasant surprise, I'd only known it to offer fish and chips. It was great to have the possibility of having the fish and chips baked rather than battered. The only dish we weren't as keen on was the battered seafood which was a little bitter. Everything else we ordered was wonderful. The highlight of the meal was the baked scallop which cooked to perfection, with butter and aioli complementing the freshness of the ingredients, what's not to love?

Pleasant modern fish and chips. Clean and modern looking, this is a very different proposition from your old chippy. I love this tiny place, to which I turn whenever I am in Bristol and crave an uncomplicated, tasty and traditional seafood meal in a nice environment. Good quality, fair prices, and friendly staff (and so is the owner). Service is usually polite and efficient, portions are more than adequate, prices are fair.

Ordered Haddock & chips to take away. Fish was OK. Very crispy batter (but didn't stick to the fish as much as the box/liner), and fish was moist. Wouldnt say it was bursting with flavour. Chips were a disappointment - not at all crispy and a bit floppy. Also, the meal seemed to dissolve the box as I carried it away and chips fell out (which delighted the seagulls). Not sure it was worth the £13.

This was a great choice for my first "fish & chips" in the UK. My only complaint is that the fish itself was very bland. Not sure if that's normal or just this spot. Everything else was great! We enjoyed the oysters (we tried two types), cocktails (we tried three), and food overall. We ordered the classic Cesar salad and the small fish & chips. The mushy peas were really good. The waitress made me the perfect limoncello spritz. It made me do a happy dance, lol. Also, great view from our table. Great choice.

I’ll start by saying it was exceptionally hot in the full sun in the conservatory-style extension to the restaurant. It probably didn’t make for a relaxed meal. My fault for not asking to be moved! I feel the server tried hard and I was impressed with the way she looked after the table next to us. I fear we had that ‘blind spot’ table which can appear to happen in restaurants! I was struggling with my meal but, other than the moment when the food first arrived, and we were asked if everything was alright, we did not manage to get a server’s attention. We were asked if the food was ok before I had actually had the opportunity to try all the food. I ordered scampi and chips. Obviously not Salt & Malt’s best dish! The chips were too soggy to dip in tomato sauce - more like dipping mash potato - and the scampi was a wet mush. However, my son’s fish was delicious and I highly recommend the oysters and frickles! I was unlucky. I did mention I had struggled to eat my meal - a first ever for me in a restaurant! - and was offered a 10% discount on my bill. Probably that didn’t quite compensate for my disappointment. I tried to be gentle and fair in my complaint at the time. Lesson learnt!

Everyone we asked during our trip to Bristol told us to head down to the Cargo section of the city to enjoy the restaurant offerings. We originally were going to go to the poke place just a few doors down, but when we realized there wasn't any inside dining option there we quickly settled on Salt and Malt. Their delicious seafood options drew us in right away and learning they are dog friendly sealed the deal for us. We'll have to come back again for oysters as they had run out by the time we arrived to eat dinner. Not to fear however! The scallops appetizer and anchovies were lovely. The seafood stew I had for my main dish had an especially wonderful rich flavor profile. My husband enjoyed an Asian fusion style cod burger and chips. I also loved the spicy margarita that I tried. Our server, an Irish expat, was especially kind and took a genuine interest in engaging with us. We will definitely visit again when we come back to town!

Honestly, some of the best fish and chips you'll ever have and a total 5/5. The only reason I am rating this down is because of one incident where the server woman with an orange "Karen" haircut turned me and my partner away from the takeaway, 20 mins before close. Even though her colleague said they could still serve us at the time... This left us feeling rubbish as they did not treat us with respect and there were still lots of other customers getting their order when we arrived... All other staff have been excellent and never had a problem. However, me and my partner still go here often (top 10% of customers according to google) as they make very tasty food and everyone has their bad days. I'd recommend getting the food to takeaway, as the portion sizes are much smaller if you eat-in but it's an experience I highly recommend for anyone in Whaping Wharf

Or maybe leave the salting and vinegaring up to self service like most good fish and chip shops. Also, the cheek of charging 20p for sachets of ketchup when they have a HUGE bottle that they use to serve (regular human size) portions of ketchup for the restaurant.... The fish was nice I guess, I would be happy to pay the price if the chips were palatable. Also they charge £6.50 for a takeout tinny

Food overall good, but I had the fish soup which had one single, albeit large, whole, in-shell prawn at the bottom, as well as in-shell mussels. Two weeks on this still puzzles me, as no peripheral was made to accommodate this - no plate for the inedibles, no hand wipe to remove soupy shellfish residue from the consumer. Soup was otherwise tasty and I enjoyed it, but I don't understand the logic. Clearly I am a lowbrow, but I don't expect to be fishing (ha) around in a soup bowl to undress a prawn.

The haddock is extremely dry, very small portion and your famous triple fried chips is under cooked (soggy). The one dish used to make your brand stand out was your fish and chips is completely lost. Your mussels with bread…. Who put the piece of bread under the mussels? It is all soggy. Very soggy… it became some sort of inedible texture. And the sauce was so thin…. Used to be our favourite place to eat but although the food is nice their portions/prices are terrible. Kids halloumi and chips is a joke £7.40 (with ketchup) for small chips and one tiny bit of halloumi. When asked how much just the chips cost they said £3 so that’s £4.40 for the halloumi and sauce. That’s outrageous. Last time we’ll come here.

Great place with amazing food. We had two plates from the menu and one out of the menu. All of them were really good, although a bit pricy.

Ich wollte, wie jedem Aufenthalt im Vereinigten Königreich, mal wieder Fish & Chips essen! Ich bestellte eine große Portion, welche in Preis und Menge überzeugte! Zudem geschmacklich sehr lecker! Nur zu empfehlen!

Seafood lovers, look no further! If you’re in Bristol do not liss that amazing spot. Staff is super friendly and the food is great. Really advise the mussles and the grilled cod in garlic butter! Staff is super friendly and accomodating! The view on the harbour is great and we’re next to the M Shed museum.

paying £3.50 for a coffee so at least I expect to be given what I ordered, simple manners from the staff like saying have a good day after I thank them would go long way, the customer services of Starbucks went so low...

Stay elsewhere I would like to tell the experience my partner and I had staying at this hotel. The blows get even lower after you checkout. We stayed in this hotel, the night of a fire. It wasn't a positive experience from checkin to this day. We get that stuff happens, but if you have a business that positioned in the hospitality, perhaps train your staff , particularly your after service staff, that's the industry they are in. We are a couple that had resided in Northern England for many years and decided to return home to Australia. This involved us doing a "goodbye tour" which lasted for about 3 months while we saw a lot of the country before we returned to Australia. We stayed at many Radisson blu's along the way and this was by far the worst and it wasn't due to the hotel fire. From checkin, we we're told our carspace that we reserved was no longer available and I had to transport all our worldly goods from our car to our room, about a mile away, which was a decent amount as there wasn't a place to set-down in front of the hotel. Mistakes happen, we get that. My partner, who was waiting for a back operation was annoyed, but understood, another unnecessary and exorbitant cost to our accommodation. We'd reserved a space so I could take all our luggage to the room, by myself. We get to the room, which was knackered and shrouded in darkness. Once we opened the curtains, a lovely view appeared. Until the time of the fire, the hotel was rather uneventful, which was appreciated. When the fire arose, we were evacuated by the hotel manager, while rather understandably hostile, did a great job getting us all out. We assembled in the evacuation zone and about 100 people were there, many "fans" too. We were told to go to a nearby hotel, where we were given refreshments and told to wait for further instructions. This all unfolded in the late evening. The receiving hotel was gracious, and accommodated us well for several hours. When it was time for us all to return to the hotel, as directed by the Radisson Blu staff, we were left outside in the rain with the police for close to an hour while the staff continued to check the hotel was safe for entry. The hostility that was met by at least 10 guests was unsafe and we questioned our safety standing there. I get that the hotel can take bookings from whoever, but, one guest was clearly on methadone and needed their medication, older alcoholics kicking off with the police as to when they could resume their schedule and another stating their didn't care their room was on fire as they're entitled to stay there as they'd paid for it. It was a totally unsafe environment for people to be at that point. People were about to kick off. We used the stairs to return to our room. The fire alarms were still going off for several hours after our return. Sleep wasn't exactly possible that night. The following day came for us to checkout. We were given no information as to what had transpired or any gestures of good will. A couple in front of us were given a 20% discount on the spot and felt the need to tell us about it, which, we heard from the staff member. We were offered nothing, no explanation of even an apology, not that we'd asked for anything at that point. We enquired as to what happened with the fire and we were told that they couldn't talk about it, absolutely egregious, brushing it over like it never happened. After having to transport all our luggage back to the car, I was indeed unimpressed with the hotel. My partner who made the booking, reached out to the hotel with hopes of receiving a discount. He was met by an out of office that said they will take 5 days to respond as they're simply too busy. By this point, I couldn't have cared less. What an insult to injury. Upon response from the alleged busy person, they told us they would offer us nothing and we were basically made out to be liars, even though, we heard from a from desk team member that a discount would be applied. We paid full price for a smoke smelling and alarm riddled room we couldn't really use.
