Nice hotel. Boutique vibes. Unfortunately couldn't get any coffee till 12 when their white lion pub opens. Main resturant opens at 3pm!

Came in for lunch on 24/1/25 for my birthday. First time at a Hotel du vin. Location and view was fab but the food for the price was a disappointment. I had sirloin which was bland a bit tough, with fries which were very greasy and not skinny fries as the waitress confirmed. I'm 99% sure they were frozen chips! My partner had the chicken which was nice but a small portion, and mash which was sat in a pool of oil. We noticed afterwards they have a fixed price menu but that wasn't offered to us. It was very quiet (only us and two gentlemen there at the time) but the service in our opinion was very slow. Shame.

The Laurent Perrier suite was simply stunning. Loved the twin roll top baths. Only thing was where to plug in the kettle on the amenity tray?!? No plugs nearby so had to put by room door. But very minor point. Beautifully appointed room. Stylish bar with great staff and service. However, we found the dinner very disappointing. Had the a la carte. My scallops were tiny and like rubber bullets. They were in a grilled gratin and it tasted bought in / from frozen not prepared fresh in the kitchen. Same with all my dishes. Lumpy pomme purée, bland processed tasting sauce, boring buttered greens (chewy savoy cabbage only). Hubby had carpaccio and sirloin steak. He was happy but wasn’t a great steak. We expected more for £140 for 2 people. No better really than good pub grub. It was a special occasion so even more disappointing when so many eateries in Clifton. Breakfast however was superb.

As many others have mentioned, the customer service, especially the front desk is really off at this hotel. From the very first moment we walked in the receptionists (one in particular, who has been alluded to in other reviews) was very passive aggressive, unhelpful and curt. This continued throughout the trip into the next morning. We were also lied to by the front desk, apparently with the manager taking part in this (although I suspect they lied about this too). We were told we couldn't have late check out for one hour (happy to pay) because the hotel was fully booked. Meanwhile, I checked Expedia several times up until 3 pm and I could still make bookings at the hotel for that night. There seems to be a behind the scenes game being played by the staff in how to make sure guests don't get what they would like. It's kind of perverse because they take delight hindering rather than helping. And it really does come across like that. Some of the most unpleasant and unhelpful front desk staff we've probably ever come across. Sarcastic in how they say 'bye' to you in unison too. They are people who have no place or real career in this industry. You have to say, there's a recruitment, training, policy, management, and work culture problem at this hotel, and we've sadly experienced similar at other Hotel du Vins. The rot in the staff at this place is similar to the increasingly dated rot in the building. Contrast even to the newish Mollies Motel in Bristol, which is a fraction of the price: excellent staff, welcoming, service, going the extra mile. All signs of good polices, recruitment, and management. Just looking at the management replies to many similar posts: the same attitude as the staff in the hotel, and very defensive, while not being customer friendly in the slightest. More willing to defend staff and attack the customer at any cost. I've written details to the HdV head office too. I'd encourage others to do the same, because clearly management doesn't know how to do good public relations on Google Reviews. Us and our team spend £££Thousands at Bristol area hotels every year due to contracts in the region. There's plenty of good competition, and we spent our second night at the Bristol Royal Marriott. Hotel du Vin will not get our company or personal business going forward - a dying brand.

My first impression on the way to my room was shocking. A piece of elevator. Get out of the elevator. Heavy door that only stayed open because I put my suitcase in front of it. Down narrow steps. Next door. Narrow aisle. Everything on carpeted floors. Complaint. New room. Super. No friendly receptionists V. You only get a small bottle of water as a welcome. Then nothing more. No clean glass in the room. And at these prices. But some hotels have to come up with something to keep their guests happy. The beautiful location of the hotel is a forgiving factor.

I regularly stay here whilst visiting my daughter at UoB. It's a great location with a friendly team at the hotel - they always try to accommodate my particular room requests 👍 Parking is a little bit tricky but once you know the drill, it's ok. Great outdoor area if the weathers nice.

I’ve stayed at this hotel 3 times this year. First two times in a junior suite and then we opted for a change as we were kept awake by a banging fire door. The classic room is well decorated but we did have several issues. The aircon turned off after just 20 minutes all night which meant we were hot and sweaty. The sheets came off the mattress, and I was left sleeping on bare mattress. For £325 for 1 night, there were no bathrobes, the mini bar was completely empty, we were charged extra for parking, zero loyalty scheme despite it being our third visit this year, I was charged over £15 for a vodka and orange when the orange wasn’t even fresh but out of a carton, and we called down to the front desk several times to arrange a late checkout and no one answered. Previous to my last visit, it would have been a very different score. However, I really felt this didn’t match the price we paid.

Come on! This is clearly a 4 star. We’ve stayed in several Hotel Du Vin and I have no idea why this is only rated as 3. Service, food, drinks and decor are superb. The rooms are quiet and a good size with lovely views. We lived it.

We stayed here for our wedding night in 2023. The location of the hotel is spectacular and the rooms were nice, though you certainly pay for the view, despite there being a noisy bar outside (at the rear of the building). The bar and breakfast staff were great, but our experience of the front desk team was terrible. Exceptionally limited customer service skills, no engagement, lacked any kind of empathy and needed multiple team members to resolve our reservation confirmation, thus creating a very poor check in and ongoing stay. Would not recommend based on our stay.

The missus and I came for a few nights recently. The locale is amazing, the hotel looks a little tired around the edges. They are dog tolerant but just understand there may be a charge. I didn't pay one as wasn't pre informed! Didn't do food at the hotel as even small dogs aren't welcome. My honest advice, Clifton village has the best places to eat!! Primrose cafe for breakfast is the best, and coppa for dinner are highly recommended. They're a 5 minute walk.

Just came here 22/06/2024 in the lovely weather to enjoy a drink with a view, accompanied by my girlfriend. We both ordered double Bacardi gold rum & coke To our surprise the coke came out in tiny bottles and completely flat… for a whopping £12.50 each, CHEEK!

Booked junior suite for £240 a night. Was hugely disappointed in standard of the room and would NOT recommend. There are 4 junior suites, clearly one has a bath in the room and looks far more luxury (which they advertise with) but it's a lottery which one you are allocated. The "garden view" was of a stone pillar and some concrete slabs (see photo), the access is unmarked to the room down some slippery steep steps (see photo). Sadly they haven't thought through lots of aspects of the room - the cups provided for the Nespresso are too small and over flow...(See photo). What I cannot photograph unfortunately is the plumbing noises - room is at the bottom of the building and you seem to hear every rush of water of toilets flushing above you and baths draining etc. Sadly not asked how our stay was when checking out.

I'm sorry but if there was a nil star I'd add it! I collected my daughter from the train station to review for a future wedding venue and I was appalled. First we were met by a lovely women on reception and this was the only positive person we experienced. Had a long queue at the bar. Bar tendered missed my order. When it wrongly came no apologies and was told " well that's all I charged you". We ventured outside to see the view but as it came cold we moved into the lobby. The fire alarm went off. As a health and safety officer I saw sheer panic. Staff running, staff shouting and no attention to customers. I asked one person who simply said it waa not his problem. The full alarm stopped but a buzzing continued. A women said you are okay but no end to the noise. Eventually a man came - I asked what was we were to do...he had his phone with him and simply said I'm dealing with the alarm. He was rude, dismissive and had no sense of positive customer service. Your loss I said and left very upset at the awful experience.

As a frequent Hotel du Vin Avon Gorge visitor, I'm deeply upset by a recent experience. While waiting for a lunch meeting in a mostly empty lobby, I was finishing a coffee I had grabbed on to go from elsewhere. Instead of politely addressing any policy, Marcus sarcastically asked if I wanted a coffee, then accused me of theft and claimed I never spend money there! This was false and incredibly disrespectful. Things escalated sadly. Despite me explaining my lunch plans, Marcus and Debbie continued accusations, then used my frustrated reaction as a reason to involve the police. This ruined my experience and reflects poorly on your establishment. Shockingly, my complaint was assigned back to Debbie, part of the problem! This signals poor complaint handling. I was simply working quietly while waiting for a friend. Grabbing a coffee on the go is a huge part of society now a days! And I don’t see how finishing a few sips of coffee is a massive issue in a hotel lobby/lounge room while waiting to spend money in their pub!

Trying to stay here is a nightmare. They don't do reserved parking and cannot advise on the state of parking (because apparently no members of staff can look out the door and check how many spaces they can see) Their check in is very late at 3pm and we weren't told this upon booking. They had no way of checking if the room might be ready earlier than that. She explained the rooms had to be inspected one by one but apparently there's no way to ask them (or pay them) to check yours first (even though we were the only people waiting). So we sat in the lobby with all of our stuff routinely walking up to the desk and asking when the room would be ready. The lady suggested we go to the pub down the road which was obviously completely rammed and she didn't have a suggestion for what to do with our stuff in the meantime. When we tried to call them the automated call system spends forever talking you through how they handle data protection before you get to speak to anyone (and even then they don't put you through to the hotel they put you through to the central reservation team who don't know anything about the specific hotel. This place is not worth paying for. Stay somewhere else for this price. The room was nice

Five stars from me, I was going to drop a star due to a lukewarm shower at a likely busy period for the hotel but, the hotel staff were very helpful in assisting me return via Royal Mail a forgotten in room phone charger ! Thanks for this, much appreciated. Room was well appointed and spacious - have stayed in other nearby popular chain 3 star hotels and the Radisson was better and at only a small price more. Worth it. Great location with no noise disturbances either.

We had takeaway so can't comment on the atmosphere. But the food was incredible! There were a lot of us so I tried many things and all were great - highlights were Penang curry, Massaman curry, Laksa and satay skewers. Loads of tofu options. Something for everyone, even fussy kids. The duck was a bit dry and the Pad Thai was unusual but still not bad.
