Wow! What a fabulous cafe. We’ve just found our new eatery when we are in Bristol. Really nice food which is freshly cooked, with lots of choice and inexpensive. Really nice atmosphere and we look forward to coming back very soon.

I was in Bristol for a training event. I spent the morning looking for a small breakfast and a coffee. I struggled to find anywhere in that area that did a bacon sandwich and a coffee. Eventually, I discovered this place. Everything was perfect. 1. The service - friendly and a village atmosphere, it felt like I was in a small coffee shop in Paris. 2. The coffee was amazing! I am quite particular about my black coffee and when I go to an independent, they don't usually produce a well balanced coffee. This was the exception - well balanced and just gorgeous. 3. The bacon sandwich was lovely 4. The little pastry also gorgeous. A lovely place, and when I am in Bristol again, I will make sure I visit.

Comfortable, wood-floored cafe near the cathedral. It does a mixture of pastries, sandwiches and hot food. Sausage roll bug but boring.Plenty of seating on two floors. Portuguese nata cakes look delicious. Reasonable value. One of the lads behind the counter was a little monosyllabic.

It took 8 months to get a reply from the owner to my previous review! It said ‘ have a nice day’. I thought reviews were about feedback and if necessary apology and improvement? So I thought I would try again. I bought a sandwich and was disappointed by off hand service from staff. So I stick to my original review. There has been no improvement in customer service.

Consistently disappointing. From the acrid tar soup proclaiming to be coffee, to the scantly filled sandwiches. It's a nice place to sit though. If you just want some hot water and a chat with friends, it's perfect. Just in response to an expectedly defensive reply - It matters not if I come to your establishment again. Perhaps it's near my office, perhaps I thought the first time must've been a mistake... I have sadly been proven right in everything I perceived. I didn't mention when the sandwiches were made. I rarely write reviews. The energy behind your response pervades the culture of your cafe. I made a mistake to go back, one I won't repeat. Thanks for the courtesy in replying. Calling someone FOS on your own review channel doesn't vindicate how bad your coffees are or how empty my sandwich was. I would take a picture next time, but I won't be back. Problem isn't the coffee, it is how it is made.

I love Woodes with a passion as it's one of the few places in Bristol that hasn't changed in decades. It looks and feels like a French cafe - aesthetically very appealing, plus sells excellent coffee, cakes and sandwiches at a decent price. I love it even more for not having WiFi which puts off people coming in to just sit and use laptops for hours. It is a haven of peace. Sandwiches are large, fresh and filling and cakes well made. All in all a lovely place to meet for lunch.

I visited a few times and had two types of sandwiches and a custard cream blondie slice of cake, and it was delicious. Cooking was a hassle and I was sick of supermarket sandwiches, so I bought one and I think I'll go there often in the future. The coffee was ok and the tea was okay, even though it was a tea bag. It's mostly takeout, but there are quite a few seats on the second floor, and the tables with legs that look like old sewing machines are pretty but old. But maybe because it's been raining all these days, the smell wasn't good.

Really disappointed with service, will not be returning. Ordered a take away sandwich. Waited over 30mins before chasing. During this time only 5 other customers and 3 to 4 staff chatting. Not at all interested in reading the room - we were sat opposite counter. When I did chase it was clear oder had not even been put through to the kitchen. A refund was offered and accepted, yet given with attitude by staff & no receipt offered, despite querying how I knew it had been refunded. I appreciate staff are probably students and would rather not be working on a Saturday morning, yet I do not think it is too much to ask for a little attention to your customers. A real shame.

Had a wonderful home made vegan sausage roll from Woodes this morning. The pastry was warm and flaky and the filling delicious. So many vegan sausage rolls are stodgy, pale and disappointing - not this one. At under £2, it was also a really good price. The coffee too, an Americano from freshly ground beans, was excellent and good value. Everything was served really quickly allowing me to enjoy in the sunshine on my way to work. All in all, a great start to my day! Thank you.

Breakfast was reasonably priced but precooked and basic. Omlette instead of fried or scrambled egg as aim assuming this is easier to reheat. I burnt my mouth on the volcanic beans in the first bite and took all the skin off the roof of my mouth. How they got them this hot is a scientific mystery. Hugely unpleasant experience to then try and finish my food. Coffee was nice, son's pancakes average but reasonably priced also. Service was quick, efficient but indifferent... they didn't even notice me gasping in pain on the table in front of the counter.

Cozy place with friendly service. We got here just after 11am. Too late to order something from the breakfast menu and too early for the lunch menu. The cookies in the display case didn't look special, so we waited a while until the kitchen would open again so we could order from the lunch menu. Really nice property, staff were friendly and coffee was nice. Breakfast for me was a total disappointment though. I had the sausage, bacon, beans and omelette. Sausage was around 50% meat, really cheap like Richmond. Bacon good quality but burnt, beans cold and the omelette was just an egg whisked and air-fried. Just such a let down. I’d suggested to the owners to take it off the menu altogether. Despite it being a nice place, I won’t be returning.

This has to be one of the oldest coffee shops on Park Street - every other one had changed hands multiple times over the last twenty years. It's a very traditional café - not as many vegan options as most places now (I'm not sure there were any actually!), no gluten free options, very heavy on the bread and traditional café options. It's exactly what you expect from a kind of fashioned cafe. A bit dark and pokey inside but friendly staff. Particularly strong coffee! Came here for tea with my daughter after a visit to the museum. I am always amazed at how inexpensive it is in Woodes Cafe. Only £2.50 for a pot of tea for two - and the pot was huge!! Also I love the old wooden furniture and bistro tables with heavy iron legs, the bentwood chairs, the many wooden-banistered staircases going who-knows-where! Well, one of them does go up to the loo, but where do the others go? Fascinating!! Lots of home-made cakes on sale! Such jolly baristas, too. Love this place! Very trendy!

I've used this favourite haunt on a few occasions and did so earlier this week following a visit to Bristol Cathedral. As usual the cafe turned up on the day. This is partly a self-service establishment but the counter staff are friendly and helpful and the snacks and light lunches are delicious. Usually satisfied with the quality of the coffees and customer service but the last two visits have been very poor. The women on the counter (who was there the last two times) came across as tired and fed up - it was 07:00. We ordered a large cappuccino with sugar. She served us with the coffees without the sugar and with an unfilled large coffee. Being served with an unfriendly face and the low quality and even quantity of the coffees was highly disappointing.
