Salma in Dover

We booked this on a friends recommendation and had the most fantastic meal here last night! Greeted by a friendly gentleman who was serving drinks and brought us food that was beautifully cooked and presented. We even came home with a doggy bag - and I have to say they were the best leftovers I’ve ever eaten! Honestly this place is an absolute gem - and we’ll be back again soon! Thank you!

Really yummy. I’ve tried a few curry’s around the area and this is definitely one of the best. Will be ordering from here again!

Wow I’ve been wanting to eat here since moving to the area 8 years ago and finally made it! The food was amazing I had a delicious prawn starter followed by my favourite rogan Josh and loved every bite. I will definitely be back the staff were great, very attentive. It had a really busy vibe but you were well looked after. We will definitely be back and next time with more family to show them how great the food and service is.

Great food, brilliant service and really nicely decorated, staff went out of there way to insure we was totally satisfied.

Customer service is second to none. Restaurant is clean and stylish. Chairs are comfortable if a little low (we're just under 6 feet tall so it's a height thing really). The good is incredible and plenty of it. We tried the chicken chat puree. Delicious! Pehwari naan was outstanding. We went for Biryani and special balti. Superb. The quality of the food far exceeded expectations. Wine selection is good - we had the Australian Shiraz which was also delicious. The staff were so friendly and helpful too. Will definitely go back. A wonderful place to spend my birthday evening.

Really friendly, professional and competent restaurant, very reasonably priced and top quality food. We have eaten in Salma before and loved it. This time they delivered without any fuss to our remote airbnb barn, exactly as requested. Everything we ate was good, but the chicken tikka was fantastic and the mushroom bhaji probably the best ever. A really great experience.

This used to be a great restaurant but it's completely overpriced and underwhelming now. The last sheek Kebab was so tough and gritty, plus missing flavour. Also walking the dogs from across the street, you hear the staff yacking and spitting at the door at night. It's really put my husband and I off ever returning.

This is the worst restaurant I have ever been in. The service was abysmal and when the food die come it was cold. The staff didn't clear any tables or the empties off the bar while we were there.

Food was fantastic and service as good the atmosphere was lovely too it was recommended to by someone in Canterbury and thank god he did

Never have I had a takeaway like this it was so tasteless we had two different curry’s one was meant to be king prawn that was just cut up into little pieces and the other was a sagg rice was well over cooked never in my life have I had anything like it was no taste and well over cooked

Lovely little place we stumbled across. Food lovely and service great. One suggestion is that the carpet could do with cleaning or replacing and toilets could be cleaner. But the food is lovely.

We didn't book but they were able to accommodate us at short notice. I ordered a chicken Rezala and my g/f ordered a chicken Makhani. My Rezala was served with lamb and not chicken, which luckily worked out well as it was delicious. Luckily I like lamb but normally avoid in case it's fatty. There was no fat at all, it was not chewy but cooked to perfection. Still a poor mistake to make. We also ordered Naan bread which didn't come and although we made them aware, still had to ask for it to be removed from the bill. A real shame, as did not appear too busy and food was nice but service, though friendly let it down. Prices were very reasonable

The dishes that we had, lamb biryani and lamb pasanda were very good. Service was good too. The only slight drawback, which isn't the restaurants fault, is that parking in Wingham is a nightmare.

Another visit last night to our local restaurant. We've never had a bad meal here. Friendly staff and manager took time out to chat. The food was delicious. We all had the puri bread to start; 3 with prawns and 1 with chicken. The bread is the best I've had and not greasy. We had a variety of dishes, all really tasty and plentiful and I had the tandoori garlic chicken that melted in your mouth. Highly recommend a visit here. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 12 takeaways are brilliant It's like a lucky dip. We have had delicious food from here one week then the same order a couple of weeks later is bland and inedible

Wife and I went to Salma for the first time for a Birthday meal and found a very inviting restaurant, lighting perfect for the atmosphere. Ordered two courses, but realised the ample portion sizes meant we'd perhaps just over ordered on the sides etc, but it was worth it. All meat cooked perfectly, and some amazing flavours. Throughly enjoyed our experience.

Internal Decor - 7 Hospitality - 8 Poppadom Dipping Options - 7.5 Taste - 9.5/10 Value for Money - 8/10 Total - 40/50 The quaint town of Wingham was the next location on the ever growing list of the Kent Curry Connoisseurs tour. Found by recommendation, the KCC ventured to the Salma restaurant with high hopes of another delicious curry. We were then somewhat surprised to be the only ones seated in the restaurant. The usual ritual of poppadoms and dips kicked off proceedings. However, the KCC were extremely disappointed to see Lime Pickle on the selection. Despite being a traditional dip, the KCC feel this has no place with poppadoms. Case Closed. Electing not to choose a starter, it was exceptionally difficult to choose a main from Salma’s extensive and exclusive menu. Two members continued with their Dansak selections and another chose a Garlic chef special. It is safe to say that we were not left disappointed. We were in universal agreement that this had been the best main dish of our 8-strong restaurant tour. Good sized portions and expert levels of spice were evident. The ‘mystery’ curry always causes a panic on the face of any waiter and at Salma, this was no different. However all compliments must go to the chef for this tasty dish and the ‘mystery’ continued as even the waiter wasn’t aware of the spices put into this creation! The KCC would recommend a trip to this fine establishment that is also served well by two pubs for pre and post curry entertainment. We’ll be back soon with another review…

We have ordered from Salma a couple of times now and have been dissapointed each time. The curries taste the same and the meat (when you can find it) is dry and as tough as old boots! I think maybe the quality of the meat...

Awful- ordered a 3 chilli strength curry which tasted like gravy. My friends was equally tasteless. keema Naan bread had a thin tasteless paste inside equally tasteless and they had mango chutney!! I’ve had better curry’s from Morrison’s. The waiter apologised and said he’d refund...

There is not much to do ref eating out in this area . But must say we were recommended to go to the Salma by our hosts. So pleased we did in fact we visited twice in three days . Food fabulous and service second...

This is a really unusual review, because the food is actually ok, though our last visit all our curries tasted quiet similar with too much tomotoe in everything, made a point of telling the owners this when they asked if everything was ok, and their reply was that we need to ask for more heat next time, but its not heat we wanted - its flavour, maybe the chef had a bad day but that said i feel the staff and owner make you feel like its a all a bit of a bother. We used to love this restaurant, gone a little downhill wont be going back.

Food was excelent and tasty. Worth traveling from Camterbury (where I stayed in a hotel for 3 days).

Me and my husband had a great time at Salma. Kind, friendly staff and delicious food. Since we are from Europe, we did not have any experiences with that kind of food but the staff explained and recommended us delicious curry and lamb chilly fry. We didn't wait too long for the food. Only have great things to say for Salma Restaurant every time I visit the place. The Restaurant is beautiful, the service is amazing and the food is delicious. Staff are really friendly and attentive even during their most busy periods. My food always comes on time and i never had to wait too long for my food - i absolutely love chicken tikka biryani and my vegetable curry!

Me and my girlfriend went for a dinner and even though it was a little bit busy that night, the staff were very quick on their feet so we did not wait too long for our food. Very kind and willing to give their best service.

I was recommended this Indian by some friends of mine. Food was great but what was even better was the exceptional service. All the staff and the owner were incredibly friendly and easy going. Just made for a a really pleasant evening. Definitely recommend and will be going back!

We where looking for an Indien restaurant arround Canterbury and went to Salma restaurent. I took a Chicken chili masala and my wife a Prawn palak balti... it was just lovely I recommande it highly !!! and the staff where super lovely with us they advice us and we had a small chat with them ! 5 stars for us.

The stuff is very kind and always willing to help. They helped us to choose the food since that was our first visit at an Indian restaurant. Nice atmosphere and really good food, especialy achari gosht and chicken balti. Highly recommended.

Me and my friend are foodies and we go to many places including Indian restaurants. Our favourite dish is chicken Dansak which is superb, the customer service is very good and we didn't have to wait too long despite it has been busy each time we go. II enjoy the floater coffee as a nice dessert and overall the price is affordable.

Me and my friends had a wonderful time at Salma restaurant. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed with just the right amount of attention. The food is absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend and ideally return.

An collect order to take away was half an hour later than promised.

Invited some friends around for a ‘birthday’ takeaway. Phoned restaurant at 6.45 pm (advertised opening 6 pm), to place order, there was an ansaphone message saying they would ring back when someone was available! After trying several times walked around to see if there was anyone around - just a closed sign on the door. It would have been easy to put a message on the ansaphone or a sign on the door to say that they were not serving for whatever reason, instead of causing embarrassment for my guests.

6th May, evening. Total chaos. Owner apparently away. Ordered takeaway and given 50 minute estimate. Arrived on time, to find party of 5 leaving as they had been waiting over an hour for service. People ahead of us in takeaway queue had ordered 2 hours before and were still waiting. Only 2 other tables occupied, all complaining about delays. Eventually got food after a further 35 minute wait....10 minute drive home and it was tepid.

Arrived very shortly after opening (6pm) and were the second table to be seated. Usually the service is good, however this evening it was shocking.

Excellent Indien restaurant very delightful in a very cozy and airy place. I have been there many time and the food is as good as the first time. A perfect place to enjoy. To recommend highly.

Have eaten here a number of times and had takeaways, tonight our takeaway was awful, not very hot in temperature and completely tasteless, the lamb rogan was bland as were the lamb samosas, my husbands pakoras were just bits of chicken in batter, his chicken jalfrezi has no distinct flavour and certainly no chillis in the sauce. Such a shame can only assume they have changed chefs, they want to change again as this one cannot cook

Food was really good and advice given about quantities to order was most helpful. Good knowledge of gluten free options were welcome.

We used to live not far from here but have moved away from the area. However, when we are in the vicinity we never fail to dine here. This time we were waiting outside the restaurant 5 minutes before they opened. Our patience and persistence was rewarded; our meal was as good as anticipated - if not better! This is a small-ish establishment so personal service is a strong point. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the food delicious! Thoroughly recommended.

We often visit Salma and have always been happy with the quality of the food and the great service. Often order takeaways also and the food is always piping hot and tasty. Lovely to have a local restaurant that is just abit extra.

Visited on 3 occasions, the owner is extremely attentive to everyone, he really cares. The food is wonderful, the restaurant is lovely and I highly recommend.

Really nice place to eat, staff are friendly & food really good. We use it for takeaways as well and again the food is always good. We were missing a dish on our last order and they delivered it to our house with a complimentary bottle of beer, nice touch.

I chose my dishes based on recommended vegetarian options. The service was great for a busy restaurant. However the food was quite tasteless and even when I asked for extra chilli it didn’t add much to the food. Despite having different dishes they all tasted the same. Overall bland but perhaps they cater for the local tastebuds.

The Salma is a great Induan restaurant. It is clean, very good service, nice decor & set in the lovely village the Wingham. Take Away service very good too. We use it a lot & never disappoints. The food is really, really good so for a little village Indian it is definitely worth the drive if coming from afar. Wingham has two great pubs too so make a night of it!

Collected a takeaway this evening. The order was ready when they said it would be. Staff were friendly. When we got home the food was still hot and tasted amazing. Best chicken korma I’ve ever had!

My wife popped in yesterday to pickup a takeaway, she picked up the bag but it felt heavy so she looked inside it to see if it was her order and it wasn't by this time the waiter came from the back with another bag which was hers,the waiter then went into a rant saying she had no right to be looking and touching someone else's food and that it had to be thrown away because she had contaminated it even though he put it in front of her, my wife was so embarrassed she walked out with nothing even though she had paid. We live in the village and will never set foot in the Salma.

We usually rave about Salma and if we are in Wingham we always have a take away or visit the restaurant. Last night we had a takeaway ....what a massive disappointment! The butter chicken was bland and insipid, no taste at all and the chicken breast was the poor quality type that is pumped with water and has a slimy texture. The jalfrezi had no spice and was also pretty tasteless and the same can be said for the prawn rogan. I’ve never had such a poor Indian takeaway. I don’t know if they have changed the chef or if it was the normal chef’s day off but we won’t ever risk a meal from Salma again, which is a real shame.

I use this restaurant a lot, mainly for takeaways. We are never disappointed, the quality of the food is to a high standard, the lamb jalfrezi is always very nice, not greasy. The nans are really good, as is the other food. The service is friendly and personalised. Great onion bhajees too! Highly recommended.

"Make yourself comfy" are the words that greet you on arrival from the lovely manager / owner of Salma... the food is excellent and the staff are very good on offering advice as to what to eat without making you over-order unnecessarily. It is also very popular as a take away. Highly recommended. And good value for money!! We have been coming here for about 5 years now and are never disappointed.

In a nice location surrounded by great scenery . Great service and food amazing one of the best about you will not be disappointed . A little gem of a place perfect setting for couples and family’s they cater for all . Friendly and welcoming staff and the list goes on .

A group of 12 of us enjoyed a set menu Friday evening meal here - it was fabulous! The service was good, the food delicious, the price very reasonable and Mo even worked out exactly what each person owed from the group without being asked!! An excellent night out, highly recommend!

Amazing service, delicious food! We placed an order for a group of 20 & it was perfect. Mo even arranged a taxi to deliver to us. Would definitely recommend!!

Dropped in without a booking. Ordered two very simple dishes - one, a king prawn biriani arrived, after quite a wait with the pawns uncooked. Inedible! First impressions count. Do not go to this restaurant until the owner gets a grip on his kitchen and stops blaming everyone apart from himself for a terrible experience. It does not matter how "grand" you pretend to be - if you can't deliver the basics - just don't bother.

So far the best indian restaurant I have tried. Looking foward to try it again with my friends and my family

Having just moved into the area we were keen to try the local curry house and we were not disappointed. Staff great, great selection of classics and new dishes and great atmosphere. Food was excellent. No oily dishes here and tender chicken and lamb. Thoroughly recommended and will go again.

The food was spot on, probably one of the best Indians I have ever eaten at. The service was mostly top notch except from our main waiter who didn't manage to crack a smile or say thank you once, I gave up with him myself in the end. The venue was nice but the only negative was that the soap dispenser did not work in the toilets as well as there being no hand dryer or hand drying facilities whatsoever. Will certainly be revisiting, it would have been an out and out 5/5 if it was not for the miserable waiter.

We ate here a few years ago whilst on holiday and enjoyed it so much we decided to return. It was very quiet but it was early on a week night that we went. We were greeted by the friendly manager and were served swiftly with delicious food again by great waiters. Very reasonably priced, would recommend a visit.
