I found this incredibly disappointing the food is served like school dinners and like school dinners the portions were small and expensive. Staff were rather unfriendly and curt. I wouldn't recommend

We visited for hot chocolates and cost £20 for 4 drinks, two of which were kids. They charge extra for cream and marshmallows making the drinks very expensive. They were also made with just water and powder, not particularly nice.

I was visiting the cathedral and went for lunch prior to my tour. Outstandingly good staff. Two young men and an older lady ( supervisor?) were serving when I visited. All very polite and friendly. A lovely location for the refectory. I had a very tasty bowl of soup and a rather nice glass of red wine.

Lovely cathedral, well worth a visit. We thought we’d support the Cathedral and have lunch at The Refectory. It’s very expensive for what it is, £35 for 3 x sandwiches - nothing fancy, no side salad or any extra’s and 3 x tea’s. Sorry we won’t be back.

WOW what a great little place this is. Following a wonderful visit to the Cathedral we decided to grab a drink and some food as it was 1:00pm and neither of us had eaten anything up to that point of day. The first thing that struck me was the light airy feel with the glass roof and views of the Cathedral but due to the high walls / position / shelter I would imagine that it never gets too hot under this glass; It was 24c outside and very comfortable inside. The cafe is linked to the Cathedral gift shop. There was a large selection of lovely looking cakes all under cover and efficient staff waiting to take orders for soup, sandwiches, paninis or the meals that they offered. I was going to have a soup but ALL the meals (chicken chassuer, vegetarian quiche, Fritattas etc looked gorgeous and the salad and vegetables perfect. So we ordered 2 x Fritatta with salad, tea and coffee, the staff were efficient and very friendly. The quantity of Frittata and salad was also very good. We use soya milk and they used Alpro barista, a shame they charged a 30p premium for the Alpro but it is clearly signed that they do this. Clean tables, comfortable chairs easily available. The food was absolutely superb and I had never eaten Fritatta before but am now a convert it was amazing. The tea and coffee tasted perfect also. The prices may at first appear a little high BUT the food is of excellent quality and it is clear (as with the rest of the Cathedral) that environmental issues are extremely important to them and they do all that they can to mitigate any negative impact with the service that they offer. If I still lived local to Salisbury I would be popping in regularly for lunch and drink.

For a restaurant in a cathedral, this was a surprisingly good choice for dining, particularly for the convenience factor when you don’t have time to eat in an external restaurant and see the cathedral or if you just get hungry while visiting the cathedral. We got decent portions of chicken, grilled vegetables and potatoes at a cost of 13.50 pounds. And it was decent quality and well prepared. Our dessert was a cookie that was tasty, but we really lusted for the other options which looked very tasty, but probably had a heck more calories. The ambiance was also much better than I expected. Service was speedy, too. For us, this was the ultimate win situation, except there was so much food, it took a lot longer than we wanted to take and ate up our already limited time in the cathedral to the point where we basically mostly took pictures. Oh well. That’s life. We should have got out of our hotel earlier.

Cafeteria style restaurant, inside the Cathedral complex. Some items made to order. Most items in a display, under glass, for you to select. Dessert items out on a table for you to select. There was a significant line to check out. Food was ok, nothing special. Watch your time. It looks like they start cutting back service about an hour or so before the Cathedral closes for the day.

The food looked delicious but unfortunately I opted for vegetable soup which was rather tasteless. It was (I guess) made without salt which is commendable but there are alternative ways to make veggie soup tasty. I felt an abstemiousness had been imposed on me!

Three of us meeting for a visit to the cathedral; between us we sampled a meaty main, a vegetarian main and toasted panini. Very good, but slightly bland, but that is cafe style. Prices were reasonable. All were good standard for a cafeteria meal, and we would all go back if we were visiting. Service was friendly. The cafe has chilled tap water as an alternative to the bottled drinks. It is spacious, light and airy

Oh dear. Whilst visiting for the excellent Tower Tour, we thought we would have lunch here. We stood by the sandwich counter and most of the weekend young staff did a great job of walking back and fore without making eye contact. Eventually someone came over and served us but there was no smile or glimmer of customer service. A couple of soft drinks and sandwiches £21. Wow, this must be something special. No! 2 tasteless sandwiches and the cheese and ham toastie was a sloppy mess of wet ham and imitation cheese. I have given an extra star because the tables in the cloister were a nice touch. I’d suggest eating elsewhere or going hungry.

We wanted to see the Salisbury Cathedral, but we also needed lunch and we were traveling from London to Bath with a stop at Stonehenge, so we needed something fast. The Refectory was perfect because we not only got to see the Cathedral from the outside, but we got to peek at some of the areas inside and have a delicious lunch. My favorite view was looking through the skylights at the spire of the Cathedral. Our lunch was great! I appreciated a spot with fresh salads and veggies for my little kids. Everything was delicious even down to the espresso (says my husband!)!

My wife and I regularly visit Salisbury to see family and we often call in here for lunch. Last week we re-visited and I had the delicious mushroom soup with granary bread - good sized helping and reasonably priced at £6.50 - Couldn’t fault it. Mrs Tring had a warmed up tuna melt ciabatta, an unusual but ultimately disappointing choice for her and not one she will be repeating. As I yummied my through my soup which also had cheesy croutons she looked on enviously, almost resentful of my very presence. She finished off with a good quality scone with jam and cream and only allowed me to try a quarter of it. A revenge tactic for me choosing a better lunch than she did. So….the food and location is good. However the visit was spoiled somewhat by our server, we had settled down at a table at the end of the counter and I had started my lunch when he appeared with Mrs T’s tuna thingy. Before handing it over he looked a bit taken aback and asked if we were guides? We had no idea what he meant…he then said we were sitting at a table reserved for Cathedral guides only. I asked him how we were supposed to know that? He then said there is usually a sign on the table but someone had moved it and he would be “tearing them off a strip”. There were loads of other tables so I didn’t think it was a major issue however he ordered us to move! He said he would be in trouble if they came in and couldn’t sit at their usual table. In hindsight we should have politely declined and stayed where we were, there were loads of other empty tables but we passively agreed, I picked up my soup, my drink, my carrier bag, my coat and we shuffled off to a different spot with people looking on wondering what we had done wrong. In my view this was a pretty appalling way to treat paying customers who had already started eating! We will go back because we quite like it there but if the manager reads this please have a word with yourself and reflect if you think you could have handled this a bit better? Thanks.

It's not all bad - so average. Coffee is good and cakes fine. Meal was a tuna melt panini - it was not warmed enough so the cheese had not melted. The tuna and cheese were wrecked by a lot of raw onion - had to pick it out because it drowned out all the more delicate taste of the tuna. Even then it was mainly onion flavoured and pretty much bland. The other dish was pastrami and cheese sandwich in I think focaccia bread - except it was stale. The bread was supposed to be light and soft with a hard crispy outside. Nothing of the sort - it was stale stodge. A nasty sandwich with nothing to redeem it. We mentioned it to the supervisor behind the counter, only so it could be seen as positive feedback to help with improvement - she downright refused to accept the bread was stale. A strange reaction because stale bread is pretty easy to identify. If she believed it was fresh, then probably it was either a) cheap rubbish bread from a bad supplier or b) they don't know good bread! Ot both of course. So, very average place - only OK for a coffee and sometimes a cake, and we don't mind because it supports the cathedral - however they could, and should, do much better.

As with many, my partner and I took a break in the Refectory while visiting Salisbury Cathedral. Being afternoon, we decided on scones with cream and jam, and a pot of tea. Up until entering the cafeteria, everyone we'd met in some form of official capacity had been most friendly and helpful - from the official car park through to cathedral guides - so we weren't prepared for the perfunctory manner of the lady who served us. To add insult to injury, the scones were sufficiently hard to be used in any repairs the cathedral building may require. At least the cream and jam helped them down, as did the pot of tea, although even in this respect, an earlier visit to the local Marks & Spencer was rewarded by a better cuppa. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the cathedral and hope to visit it again in the not-too-distant future. However, next time we'll go to M&S for our break.

I don't have any hearing difficulties, but we could not hear what the assistant was saying, so the menu made very little sense. Rather than get the assistant to repeat himself, as he seemed impatient, we played safe and had a simple panini and sandwich. Nice atmosphere and a very nice setting, but how can you go wrong in this venue. Where the experience let itself down was in customer care. They could have made this an exceptional experience easily by just being a little more patient, taking more care and being a little more friendly and adjusting their tone of voice - it is a big space with echoes and a lot of ambient noise including chatter and scrapping chairs so a mumble isn't going to make over the hot buffet counter.

There's a good selection of food and drinks with Vegetarians catered for [I'm not sure about Vegans]. The portions are generous, but it's not cheap, perhaps it's on par with other tourist sites. In fairness when we were there there were locals eating there as well as visitors so obviously it's judged to be fair value for the food and drink. A nice touch that there's bottles of water available so you don't have to buy the rather expensive soft drinks. On balance I'd say give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Although the cafe was busy at lunchtime people were being served efficiently. We just had a toastie each and a drink and it was very good. A very smooth operation.

We were pretty tired when we got to the Cathedral, so before engaging, we had a very relaxing lunch in the adjacent Refectory. There is an interesting assortment of food (sandwiches, salads), baked goods, and drinks. I was happy to see large jars of water you could get for your table. The shop attached has a wide array of locally inspired gifts and a good collection of books.

Our visit to Salisbury Cathedral last Sunday afternoon was unexpectedly cut short when we discovered that it wasn't possible to visit the interior of the cathedral due to a special service being held, but we were very pleased with our visit to the Refectory where we could sit in a welcoming, airy space and admire the famous spire while we had tea, lemonade, shortbread and a scone. The last three items were all home-made, and very good.

Lovely place to stop and rest after a bell tower tour Food was well presented as are the staff. Lovely jam and cream scones available and the quiche and mix of salads was also lovely. Took advantage of the free cups of tea from out all day parking ticket within the grounds. Was very busy during lunch period but people seems to order eat and move on plus there is additional seating outside the restaurant cafe.

A welcome place to sit and rest within the Cathedral and to have a refeshment. Sitting in the cloister with a cup of tea and cake admiring the architecture is heavenly.

All the food was excellent as was the service. Not a cheap meal but as it helps to support the cathedral we were happy to pay the prices

My husband and I came for lunch. I asked about gluten-free options. There was nothing in the main section apart from pork which I don’t eat. The choice of salads was just one for me as the other of the two was pasta. I settled for a gluten-free sandwich. I also had a rather dried out chocolate brownie which was gluten-free. Not good at all in this day and age. The sandwich was nice and the service was friendly and helpful.

As advertised on the very informative Salisbury Cathedral Website. At 4 Pounds 75 Pence I guess each must decide on value, but as it included a generous pot of Loose Leaf Tea I thought it was pretty good value.

It was very busy when I visied but the staff were pleasant and unruffled, the scone was fresh and the tea was refreshing. The views of the cathedral spire through the glass roof were fab.

My first visit to the Cross Keys and one of many to come. Participated in a chivelrous bout for the ages in the infamous premier pool league. Their tap water and ice is unrivalled and even better still, the owner and his family couldn't have made me feel more welcomed. Carvery is next...

Absolutely fantastic pub and I do mean pub! There is a pool table, dart board, quiz nights, games of spoof at the bar, everything that has been lost from most other pubs in the country. The food served is simple pub grub, done well and pretty cheap. The Landlord is very welcoming and if you have any interest in vehicles, local history or wartime you will struggle to leave!
