Lovely rustic country pub. Food was great and staff friendly and helpful. Tables a bit squeezed in as it’s a typical cosy pub, but the atmosphere is great

The food at The Halt is always brilliant but thought I'd take the time to write a review after amazing pizza last night and incredible desserts. It's worth saving some pizza to take home if you think you can't make it to dessert, because you don't want to miss out! Everything was delicious and we were able to swap toppingss on the pizza without any bother. Thank you for another great night - and great beer!

A cosy pub with family run friendly feel. Interesting range of delights on the menu which included hallumi skewers and homemade pitta, steak and a range of "dirty" burgers. Deserts were all homemade and delish. Friendly staff and a great outside space where we could chill and have a coffee if we wanted. Parking not easy but a church round the corner where you could park alongside the cemetery in what was a very English little village. Worth it.

We’ve eaten here a few times as a couple and then twice with friends. Realised we’ve never actually left them a review and really ought to have done. The food is very good quality - last meal I had Thai green curry (possibly the best green curry I’ve ever had - including when we actually visited Thailand!) The others had Sunday roasts which they said were very good too. Special shout out to the biscoff desert and also the homemade biscoff icecream too. Would highly recommend.

Staff could not have been more accommodating and helpful when my daughter and I were decorating the room A VERY SPECIAL THANK you to the WONDERFUL Fran, always a joy.and Fin who was an outstanding waiter. Simply one of my favourite places to be - our happy place. In the Summer the Garden and wonderful terrace is a beautiful spot to while away the hours. In the Winter, it's cosy, busy and fun. The staff are brilliant and will always go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and attend to your needs. The food is faultless and consistently excellent, the menu changes often with locally sourced ingredients - so you can keep going back and never get bored. High five to the team at the Halt, they work so hard and this place is just heavenly.

This place really needs the summer because in winter it is just so tiny inside and because eating in the garden is so beautiful. In darkest February it was cosy and crowded inside and the food was very good. A tiny menu but then I doubt there are more than twenty covers. Everything we had was wonderful.

We had Sunday lunch here today and I have to say it was probably the best roast we’ve ever had out. Whilst my partner loves a roast, I’m not normally a fan and had planned to have something different. However, on seeing someone else’s plate, I decided to go for the roast and very glad I did. Properly cooked veg - what a joy instead of the usual dish of hard tasteless microwaved carrots, broccoli and French beans that so many places dish up! Excellent choice of drinks on offer including my favourite gin and beer. Service was delightful - all three of the ladies we spoke to were very friendly and helpful. I only really have one complaint and it’s that this lovely pub is not within walking distance. Maybe we need to move house!

I’ve visited many times with friends. On this occasion it was with family. My brother-in-law and I had the ‘Lot burger’. These days pub burgers can be hit n miss. Fortunately the Halt burgers are top notch , multifaceted and the tastiest I’ve had in a long time. Their food is consistent, reliable but most of all delicious and the staff are genuinely helpful and friendly. The Halt is the only pub that comes to mind that still serves custard with pud. In other pubs where they only serve ice cream, I most often forego the desert.

We have not been out much since lockdown, we went to one pub a few weeks ago and it was a nightmare a pub with no understanding of how to socially distance. The HALT could not be more different. One way system in place warning lights to tell you if the toilets are occupied, hand sanitizer everywhere. We did not eat but might next time. Spacing was very good and willingness of the staff was great. The only reason they did not get 5/5 is waiting staff did not mask up and there was smoking on the main veranda while food was being served. We will be back.

Safe and secure......until knives and forks were brought in a bundle in the waitresses' s hand and the we also found the table sticky. Never mind - we cleaned both and enjoyed the view. Pizzas were freshly cooked in the outdoor oven and were lovely. Overall, very enjoyable, good food and friendly staff. I would suggest that management advise people when booking if there are parties being held in the marquee. When we went there was a 40th birthday party taking place - bringing a different atmosphere to the one we had expected. None of the guests were social distancing and none of the staff were advising them too. I can't imagine they had everyone's contact details either. Not great.

We (all 16 of us!) wanted to enjoy a walk from a nearby campsite in Bodiam to a pub for lunch; and we found The Salehurst Halt was not too far away!It was just after the relaxation of rules for pubs, so was a little anxious about (a) being able to book something outside for so many people and (b) ensuring we and staff were safe and abiding to the rules. The experience and feeling of comfort with a controlled area outside for us all (under our own marquee!) was a huge relief and on top of that, the process of ordering food and drinks for 3 different families through their phone app (scan a QR code on your table) was flawless. We also could order in person and was attend to perfectly by the lovely staff there. The food was great for everyone, catering for kids’ tastes, and a few years of us were vegetarian too. Personally the sea salt fish and chips was amazing!Their back garden is beautiful with lots of flowers and baskets in bloom, and we will make sure to return again soon when their outdoor pizza oven is up and running. Thanks to everyone who looked after us - you were all great! x

We visited one of our favourite pubs for our first Sunday lunch out since lockdown. A lovely sunny day but we were given a table under a dingy awning. The garden that used to be beautiful looked overgrown and neglected. Covid measures were in place such as menus accessed by mobile, hand sanitiser on entry and tables spaced but we saw tables used and vacated and used again and not sanitised in between. We ordered drinks and food at the same time and the food arrived almost instantly but drinks arrived much later. The roast pork was OK which was a good thing as there was no other choice. We would have stayed for a second drink had there been a table in the sun available - there wasn’t so we left to have a drink in the beautiful garden of our very well sanitised local pub.

This is the best pub in the area but unusually today the food was a little disappointing. I had the lamb Moussaka with Greek salad which was quite burnt on the top with not a lot of lamb and the salad was not Greek, it was almost raw beans and chopped tomato. My husband said his slow roast belly pork was perfect. The plum pavlova was excellent if a little large. The faults in the food can be forgiven as they are outweighed by the lovely friendly landlady, the beautifully kept beer and the real pub atmosphere. We will be back soon.

We changed our minds about which restaurant to go to at the last minute. We have always enjoyed The George in Robertsbridge but we noticed on Tripadvisor that Salehurst Halt had a higher rating, so thought we would try it out. I have to say the food, when it came, was good, but waiting 30 minutes for a starter and another 45 minutes for main course was unacceptable. Other things like having to ask for cutlery and serviettes added to the haphazard service, The waiting and bar staff seemed totally disorganised. There was no apology for the delay and we noticed that other customers got up and walked out. A pity, as the French onion soup and fish stew was really well cooked and tasty.

A small group passing through Salehurst today at lunchtime, and we were pre-booked for our stop at this venue for our refuelling along the way.

A cozy traditional country pub with good beer (and I'm reliably informed by my wife, a good selection of wines, gins, vodkas and tonics!), and better food. Great in Summer and when the weather's good as it has a lovely beer garden and guests can spill outside, but unfortunately can get very busy if the weather's not soo good.

Its a very relaxed atmosphere with a log fire in the winter and a gorgeous garden patio in the summer. The staff are always friendly and accomodating. If you want something thats not on the menu they do their utmost to accomodate you. I've been there at all different times and days and it is always excellent service.

Following the good reviews we opted for a Saturday night meal out at the salehurst holt. It was quite chilly in the pub with no heating on. Our starters were good. The chef told us while we were eating our starters that the two rib eye steaks weren’t good enough so asked if the flatiron steak would be ok. When they were served they certainly weren’t succulent in any way! Pudding - ice cream from a cardboard pot and a cheesecake that the base couldn’t be cut even with a knife. Cross this one of your list!

We went for lunch here with a friend who knew about the place and were blown away by the meal we had. This was simply good old fashioned home style cooking at its best. We did have a reservation which was just as well as I very much doubt you would get a table without booking. The menu is not extensive and once the food is gone that is it so you know whatever you order is going to be fresh. Lovely atmosphere with very friendly locals and excellent service from the waiting staff. We had the roast of the day which was 12 hour slow cooked pork - OMG it was delicious and just fell apart and the crackling was so good - probably the best I have ever eaten. Wonderfully cooked vegetables and great flavoured cider gravy. Our friend is vegetarian so opted for the nut roast which she said was the best she had tasted and kept on raving about the mushroom gravy she had with it, it was so good. A great success and we have made plans to go back there in warmer weather so we can enjoy the views from the beer garden at the back of the property

It's been a long time since I've been inspired to review a pub but on Sunday 9th Dec my group of walkers descended for Sunday lunch, our first time there as it happens. First I had the best pint of Harveys Sussex bitter I've ever drank and I've had more than a few over the years, landlady assured me the pipes were cleaned weekly - thumbs up - and then we had Sunday roast - excellent with more than enough on the plate for 10 hungry walkers. 2 of our group to be awkward wanted apple crumble which wasn't on the menu so after a word with the chef they found just enough apples to make the required dish. result, happy hikers. We will be back as the man said. A very busy country pub so a bit noisy but we call it 'atmosphere' If the local vicar goes there it's good enough for me.

The food and service were as good as usual, but the noise made by two, largely unsupervised young children playing at a nearby table was unacceptable. They did not appear to be with any customers. It was more like being in a nursery rather than a pub for lunch with friends.

Went along to join I the quiz night, had a great time, the bar staff were very friendly. Well done to quiz master extrondinaire Frazer (with a 'Z'!) Paris, as always, was in control in case the teams kicked off :)

Coffee shop located inside Tescos. Seems to suffer problems with its dishwasher they have an official sign printed to state it’s out of order. Staff seemed more interested in preventing people sitting down from 1 O’clock on a Sunday. Did have the misfortune to go there for a coffee once and find due to a problem with their machine no coffee was available. Shame I never knew before my 2 mile walk to get there.

Lovely staff. Heinous ugly branding which spoils a stunning natural environment
