Three women, who have known each other since school - over 40 years - met for lunch there today. The table was booked for 12.30pm....and at 17.00...we were still there nattering! Even though the pub was heaving, which was pleasing to see - the staff made no effort to move us on. The food was fabulous - good choice for the veggies / non veggies - and terrific, speedy service. Staff were attentive and helpful - polite and friendly and there was a really lovely vibe in the pub and it was great to see the locals rubbing shoulders with us 'visitors'. Really special place to visit on what was a pretty grubby day weather wise. I will look forward to a return visit in the warmer weather as apparently, the garden and views are amazing. Worth a visit? Definitely.

Dog friendly, which was a real bonus and our pooches were even treated with some lamb when our desserts were brought out, so they could get a treat too! We'll 100% be returning to try more of the menu when we're next in the area. This pub is a real gem and were excited about our next visit already! Thanks for your hospitality :-)

My whole experience at this pub was fantastic from start to finish. The moment we walked through the doors, we were greeted immediately by really friendly staff who showed us to our seats and took our drinks order straight away. (Rachel) then came back very promptly with our order. While enjoying a drink in the garden, we noticed that the views were beautiful! We ordered our roast, and I must say this is one of the top roasts I’ve ever had. The food was so tasty I barely came up for air whilst eating. Food and drink = 10/10. On a separate note, upon leaving, our car had broken down. As it was a Sunday, it was a struggle to get recovery. We went back to the pub where they advised us getting a taxi in the area wouldn’t be possible on a Sunday and due to the strikes, there was also no trains. Rachel who worked there, very kindly offered to drive us home, she drove us all the way back to Staplehurst! She was so lovely, and didn’t make a fuss at all and just wanted to get us back. We were so grateful. The service and friendliness of this pub is second to none, it’s family owned and they are all genuinely lovely, nice people.

We have not been out much since lockdown, we went to one pub a few weeks ago and it was a nightmare a pub with no understanding of how to socially distance. The HALT could not be more different. One way system in place warning lights to tell you if the toilets are occupied, hand sanitizer everywhere. We did not eat but might next time. Spacing was very good and willingness of the staff was great. The only reason they did not get 5/5 is waiting staff did not mask up and there was smoking on the main veranda while food was being served. We will be back.

Safe and secure......until knives and forks were brought in a bundle in the waitresses' s hand and the we also found the table sticky. Never mind - we cleaned both and enjoyed the view. Pizzas were freshly cooked in the outdoor oven and were lovely. Overall, very enjoyable, good food and friendly staff. I would suggest that management advise people when booking if there are parties being held in the marquee. When we went there was a 40th birthday party taking place - bringing a different atmosphere to the one we had expected. None of the guests were social distancing and none of the staff were advising them too. I can't imagine they had everyone's contact details either. Not great.

We (all 16 of us!) wanted to enjoy a walk from a nearby campsite in Bodiam to a pub for lunch; and we found The Salehurst Halt was not too far away!It was just after the relaxation of rules for pubs, so was a little anxious about (a) being able to book something outside for so many people and (b) ensuring we and staff were safe and abiding to the rules. The experience and feeling of comfort with a controlled area outside for us all (under our own marquee!) was a huge relief and on top of that, the process of ordering food and drinks for 3 different families through their phone app (scan a QR code on your table) was flawless. We also could order in person and was attend to perfectly by the lovely staff there. The food was great for everyone, catering for kids’ tastes, and a few years of us were vegetarian too. Personally the sea salt fish and chips was amazing!Their back garden is beautiful with lots of flowers and baskets in bloom, and we will make sure to return again soon when their outdoor pizza oven is up and running. Thanks to everyone who looked after us - you were all great! x

We visited one of our favourite pubs for our first Sunday lunch out since lockdown. A lovely sunny day but we were given a table under a dingy awning. The garden that used to be beautiful looked overgrown and neglected. Covid measures were in place such as menus accessed by mobile, hand sanitiser on entry and tables spaced but we saw tables used and vacated and used again and not sanitised in between. We ordered drinks and food at the same time and the food arrived almost instantly but drinks arrived much later. The roast pork was OK which was a good thing as there was no other choice. We would have stayed for a second drink had there been a table in the sun available - there wasn’t so we left to have a drink in the beautiful garden of our very well sanitised local pub.

I have to say the food, when it came, was good, but waiting 30 minutes for a starter and another 45 minutes for main course was unacceptable. Other things like having to ask for cutlery and serviettes added to the haphazard service, The waiting and bar staff seemed totally disorganised. There was no apology for the delay and we noticed that other customers got up and walked out. A pity, as the French onion soup and fish stew was really well cooked and tasty.

The chef told us while we were eating our starters that the two rib eye steaks weren’t good enough so asked if the flatiron steak would be ok. When they were served they certainly weren’t succulent in any way! Pudding - ice cream from a cardboard pot and a cheesecake that the base couldn’t be cut even with a knife. We went for lunch here with a friend who knew about the place and were blown away by the meal we had. This was simply good old fashioned home style cooking at its best. We did have a reservation which was just as well as I very much doubt you would get a table without booking. The menu is not extensive and once the food is gone that is it so you know whatever you order is going to be fresh. Lovely atmosphere with very friendly locals and excellent service from the waiting staff. We had the roast of the day which was 12 hour slow cooked pork - OMG it was delicious and just fell apart and the crackling was so good - probably the best I have ever eaten. Wonderfully cooked vegetables and great flavoured cider gravy. Our friend is vegetarian so opted for the nut roast which she said was the best she had tasted and kept on raving about the mushroom gravy she had with it, it was so good. A great success and we have made plans to go back there in warmer weather so we can enjoy the views from the beer garden at the back of the property

It's been a long time since I've been inspired to review a pub but on Sunday 9th Dec my group of walkers descended for Sunday lunch, our first time there as it happens. First I had the best pint of Harveys Sussex bitter I've ever drank and I've had more than a few over the years, landlady assured me the pipes were cleaned weekly - thumbs up - and then we had Sunday roast - excellent with more than enough on the plate for 10 hungry walkers. 2 of our group to be awkward wanted apple crumble which wasn't on the menu so after a word with the chef they found just enough apples to make the required dish. result, happy hikers. We will be back as the man said. A very busy country pub so a bit noisy but we call it 'atmosphere' If the local vicar goes there it's good enough for me.

They do Pizza on Wednesdays in the summer and we had a good meal/evening there this week. Excellent Pizza, great Harveys and good selection of wine.

Met a friend here as a half way point. Have to say when I drove up I thought it looked very small and was going to be not too good. Big mistake! It is a small place but the food is just delicious! It’s busy- you’d need to book for an evening. It’s a real gem and I’m going back in a few weeks again. The Greek salad was wonderful as were the puddings. Ended up in there for 3 hours!

This is the only place that I've been to lately and thought that it is really good. The menu has some very interesting ,different dishes on. I've been about 5 times in the last 6 months and it's consistently good and great value. Book to avoid disappointment. Last time I went it was a Tuesday night and they were full and turning people away.

We were camping at Park Farm Bodiam and walked to this lovely little pub (very glorious English country walk through orchards and view of Oast houses etc)..Great beer (it's a free house) and Biddenden cider (just as they should in this part of the world) and a lovely garden, complete with a terrace covered with a mature grape vine. They have a table tennis table in the garden - great fun on a lovely summer evening. Quaint pub, good attention to detail - my grandson was offered a choice of snacks neatly arranged in a basket (detail always impresses me). Freshly cooked food on the board - everything we chose was good. I had the lamb shish kebabs with all the trimmings - so tasty. No special childrens menu, but smaller portions of the regular offer, or will try to cook to your wishes for your kids. There was a pizza oven in the garden, so there must also be pizza nights. Also good value - what more could you want? We would definitely return.

We enjoyed a lovely evening meal in the garden of the Salehurst Halt. This is a small, traditional village pub - the bar is like being in someone's living room - with a small variety of real ale and a limited menu with perhaps 5 starters, 5 mains and 5 deserts. The food (burgers, koftes, greek salad, mackerel pate etc.) is traditional with no attempt at nouvelle cuisine or anything 'fancy'. If that is what you are looking for, then it is good value; portions are medium size. We liked that you can choose burgers at 3, 6 or 9 oz. If you want a slick gastro pub with service, then this is not the place to go. Equally, it is a nice place to while away a summer's evening over a chilled pint.

My husband and I came to Salehurst Halt on a sunny Sunday for a roast and a couple of drinks. The roast was fresh, tasty and generous - for this reason I felt it was good value for money. The pub was a bit busy/congested making it hard to get to the toilet (or the bar!) but the staff were lovely and the atmosphere was good.

We had a warm welcome at this lovely little pub with beautiful patio with grapevine trailing overhead and garden. We had a burger and souvlaki kebab in home made pitta with all the traditional Greek accompaniments. For dessert a raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding with custard. The lamb in the kebab wasn’t great but the rest were all good. The staff were so cheerful and friendly, and we finished with a game of table tennis in the garden so an all round enjoyable evening. Would definitely return.

Had a great night out on Saturday with my friend Sally. We sat outside under the pergola in glorious sunshine. Although the pub was very busy, service was very good and the food absolutely delicious. Had flat iron steaks and chips to die for. Cheese and biscuits between us for afters. I couldn't fault this place at all and would certainly recommend.

I had been looking forward to this pub as the culmination of a 10-mile walk between Robertsbridge and Bodium. The location is certainly stunning and after checking that the pub is in the good beer guide (2017 edition - not sure about 2018) I thought that this would be a good place for a celebratory pint. On the outside it looks like a lovely pub in a beautiful setting, helped by the unusually good bank holiday weather. Inside the pub looks nicely decorated, with bushels of hops hanging from the roof.

We visited Salehurst Halt for the first time on Friday 23rd February and enjoyed a delicious lunch in a friendly, relaxed setting. The pub was cosy and comfortable and it was difficult to choose from the menu as it was so varied and interesting. We will definitely be visiting again

We came across this pub as we use a butcher nearby. We were so impressed we visit here when we are in the area. The food range is lovely there is something for everyone. We like to try different things and I’ve had stuffed cabbage rolls, Spanish fish stew, gammon chop just to name a few. It is beautiful in the summer and nice and cosy in the winter. Great selection of beers and the staff are really friendly. I love the ethos of using local produce and it is Abundant in the surrounding countryside.
