Small and friendly shop. I had pork and chirizo croquettes, butternut squash and stilton quiche and chocolate orange nates. They were all amazing. Will definitely be back 😍.

Well I struck lucky finding Salcooks especially as I found it on a Friday and I was just in Birmingham for the weekend and they (I’m assuming as most custom seem to be office workers who keep this hidden gem very busy!) don’t open at the weekend. They publish a limited menu of exciting portuguese inspired lunch offerings plus pastries/cakes and seem to do couple of light bites (arancini and croquette) savory pies and 4 sandwiches made with portuguese bread plus salads. The flavour combos are divine and very exciting compared to your bog standard, grab a lunch from the office normal offerings. Most people seem to know that things sell out quick and phone ahead to get something put aside so my first choice wasn’t available but I was still spoilt for choice. They are all produced fresh everyday and the menus change...I had a sandwich with marinated chicken, garlic butter, pesto and herbs and it was divine (tip...I toasted it and got to say think it elevated it even more). Although a constant stream of people picking up/buying their lunches the lady was lovely, friendly, cool music playing. There’s no area to sit inside but on a nice day they have a couple of tables outside. The pastries/cakes looked divine but my brain had done too much decision making on the lunch side to choose so I’ll have to visit again next time I’m in town. They also seem to have a loyalty scheme...shame I’m not a regular as I’m sure I would be availing of that!

Food was full of flavour and fresh. Lunch menu was what we had and from we could see from their menu, everyday there is something different to try. It's a little gem in the city centre which we stumbled across. The desserts was superb.

While it is pricey, it is absolutely delicious. I wish they did deals on larger quantities of things - I’d snap them up. Lovely staff

Paid for a sandwich through an app but when I arrived they only had one sandwich flavour left which I didn’t like. Asked if I could swap it for a salad of lower value and the guy said no. Asked why not and he said that it was all about making things easier for them. Bit short sighted to choose convenience over customer service, especially given that I work round the corner. Salcooks has lost my business for the foreseeable future!

To say that Sal cooks is a bit of an understatement. Sal creates the most delicious food on the go. Everything is home made and utterly delicious. The only problem I ever have when I go is trying to decide what I can have - I generally want everything. The large salads are more of a buddha bowl, brimming with flavour and fresh ingredients. The arancini and croquettes wouldn't be out of place in the nicest tapas restaurant and pastries and pies melt in your mouth. The owner works incredibly hard to ensure that everything is made fresh on the day and served with a smile.

My wife recently introduced to Salcooks because it's just a few minutes walk from my office and I loved it! Fresh, home-made, healthy and delicious food waiting to be picked up as soon as I walked in! LOVED their chocolate dulce de leche cake!!!!! Definite must have when you're there. They close around 14:30, so be sure to be there before then or be super square!

Salcooks never disappoint. Always such exciting salads that provide me with both sustenance and endless inspiration for my own cooking at home. Beautiful cakes, tarts, and biscuits. So many delicious treats. Thank-you to the lovely ladies behind the counter, Salcooks brightens up lunch time in an often grey Birmingham.

Ate lunch here after finding out about it's great fresh food. The chicken sandwich was superb and as for the croquettes they are in a class of their own. Worth finding them just off the beaten track

Visited here a few times this week as we work on Water Street. Had soups, curries, salads, snacks and desserts. Everything is simply delicious and compared to other places, not overpriced. Portion sizes are very good and the chickpea and roasted pepper salad was a particular favourite. Will absolutely be visiting here more often and great when you want something outside of the norm.

Salcooks is a tiny jewel of a place, tucked away neatly underneath the arches of Water Street, but in fact is just a few minutes' walk from the Jewellery Quarter and Snow Hill. Unless you knew it was there, you possibly would never stumble across it, which would be a pity because this is a very, very special little place indeed. The general style of the food is Portuguese, a little-known and underrated cuisine. Anyone who has lived or travelled in Portugal or the Azores will recognise the style - patties and tarts full to the brim and packed with intense flavours. The owner has the balance just right - plenty of meaty morsels, and a surprising amount of vegan and vegetarian fare. Make no mistake, the cooks are serious about flavour, and each piece is a masterpiece - and a revelation of taste. This has to be the best thing that has happened to lunch in Birmingham for a very long time. My favourite is a chicken and chorizo patty which melts in your mouth and has you dreaming of more, more, more! This is food made with love. It is our hope that this tiny place with thrive and prosper, and will become more widely known and appreciated by more than its already loyal followers.

The food here is truly remarkable. They always have a vegan hot and cold option too. The bread, the stews are delicious. The pastel de nata custard tarts are almost indescribably yummy. The custard palmier should be a controlled substance they are so good. Great friendly service and a few seats to eat in if you want.

Absolutely amazing, superb, yummy. Just unique!!! The best custard tart and ginger cake I've ever eaten before. I'm falling in love with this place. What a food and what a service, even better if that's possible.
