Worst Indian food I ever had food was tasteless beer was flat staff was friendly but I will not be coming to this Indian again

We recently did a trade show at the NEC and stayed over, after a busy Saturday we just wanted some food. We jumped in a black cab as our feet hurt so much and told him we wanted some food and asked if he knew a good local curry house and he took us here. The restaurant was really busy but they managed to squeeze us in, the food was amazing and i will happily go back when we stay for the next show.

Visted last week, foods amazing, great service. Especially liked the tawa chicken tika naga with egg fried rice definitely recommend for anyone to try it.

Waiting half an hour for a pre-booked table. Waiting 1 and half hours between poppadom's and main course - we had to repeatedly ask waiters when the food was expected. Food - awful. Reheated chicken - rubbery and inedible. Finally, not only did we get massively overcharged for drinks - we have been charged twice for payment. Shocking service, food and will not be going there again.

Came tonight 2 adults 2 children ,, as soon as we arrived the guy in the bar looked like a drug addict just looked at us and looked away ,, when we told him that the kids drink was wrong he was huffing and puffing,, I said if it’s too much trouble il leave it he said nooooo not you this idiot meaning another waiter ,, no manners what so ever , he then came to us huffing again saying ( you ready to order or not ) literally not 1 bit of manners from him what so ever ,, just moved to the area love Indian food so probably would of been there twice a week but due to him never ever will I return again ,, probably was ready for another drink or some drugs that’s what was wrong with him other guys was decent ,,, food wasn’t bad ,,, but he definitely won’t be seeing us again that let the whole atmosphere down ,, sorry guys 👍

Good foodat a fair price but the service was rushed and they were v keen for you to eat fast and clear off. Not what you called related. The pressure is clearly on for you to eat like a pig,drink lole an alcoholic Upside the food eas great

Went to the Shabar while on a visit to the NEC, lovely place very welcoming staff and absolutely fantastic food, for those who like Mango Lassi they make their own and it’s totally fresh, can’t buy it by the glass but by the jug, so smooth and refreshing I drank it all lol, great evening and great food, thanks

Been here a few times. The waiter came to our table to serve with his thumb indented into my nan bread 🤢 The food was average, nothing special tbh.

Absolutely delicious food. Even the chutneys with the poppadums were the best I’ve ever tasted. The service was excellent. Definitely recommend. Came because the Harvester across the road had a wait time on a Thursday of 1 hour! Glad we did!

I took the family here for Christmas Dinner. How I wish someone had given my head a wobble... the worst mistake I have made over the festive period, and trust me, I have made a fair old few. We are a family of 5, 2 of us had the turkey curry whilst the other 3 (2 adults and 1 child) had the Christmas dinner. The menu stated that it would be a veal starter with the curry and a mushroom soup starter with the dinner. When the starter arrived we were served a kebab starter and what can only be described as a cupa soup in a bowl. The excuse was all the veal starters had gone. The soup was luke warm. The mains then arrived, after questioning what plate was for a child (as all 3 dinners where the same size, even though you pay extra for an adults size) the waiter then took the 2 adults plates away to get the correct portion. My son then poured the gravy over his dinner only to discover it was stone cold. This then had to be returned. The curries then came out, again it was luke warm and waterery. The worst curry I have ever tried to eat... Absolutely shocking service all round, the waiter spilt 2 drinks and a dip on the table and the food was nothing short of luke warm runny dishwater. Never will I return there again.

Food were smelly along with a burning smell. They don’t even know what is mint sauce they gave us mango sauce instead. Grill chicken was so smelly no one can eat. Biryani was like 2 days old and looks like it was microwaved after defrost them. Really bad experience!

Good family run business have being going for years

Got told from a friend about the restaurant, ate with some friends. Great food, great staff and alright price range, Honestly would go there again.I’d recommend the sizzling masalla chicken tika and the handi gost.Overall nothing to complain about.

Ive been the shabar on numerous occassions, the food has been luvly, but having been christmas day it was absolutely awful starters were cold and the turkey curry was unflavoured and watery and cold, surely they must have known

As out of towners gave this place a try! Wowsers we were blown away by the all around experience from start to finish! Everything bang on from restaurant cleanliness food staff ambience & atmosphere! Definitely would come again if we in the area absolutely bang on!.😋🌶💥👍

Went to the Shabar Baltic restaurant for Christmas dinner, food excellent great service and a friendly atmosphere. All round very enjoyable.

Just had Christmas here and it was absolutely shocking. Tried to serve child portions as adults. The gravy was stone cold and then the dinner was cold. The turkey curry came out luke warm and then the waiter spilt 2 drinks over one of our guests. I will never ever eat here again. Ruined our Christmas.

Food was ok but not hot enough , service very fast , hardly a break between courses, place is clean , staff efficient but not engaging .Parking is a mare when busy, If everywhere else is busy I'd go back !!.

Ordered a Persian chicken Biryani,,after asking the waiter the difference , he mumbled something about nutmeg . Like a fool I went ahead and ordered one , bad mistake! When it was served, the only difference was a omelette on top . The meal was full of salt , I ate what I could ( I didn't want to complain and spoil the whole meal for the family) . Had a bad night's sleep , as my stomach couldn't handle the bad food I had eaten !

Came here for my Daughters birthday 15 of us family & friends outstanding service & the food was amazing! Been going here for many years highly recommended

Haven't been in a while but know that Shabar can cure any curry craving I have, went for dinner and had lovely food and fantastic service. They were very attentive and we never felt rushed. Seemed very quiet for a Friday night but hope their business ramps up in the lead to Xmas!

We would have had a lovely meal, but it was spoilt by a very loud family who gave their child a phone and had Bing!!! Playing at full volume, if i wanted that while i ate i could have gone and sat with my grandaughter and had a take away. Spoilt the whole experience and i feel the management should have stepped in, everyone by them were tutting and complaing. They also allowed thechildto empty the salt cellar all over the carpet and scream at the top of its lungs. Real shame.

Good quality food and generous portions.Poppadoms and selection of dips are brilliant. Staff are always very friendly.

We ordered a large takeaway for 11 people....unfortunately the amount of meat/ chicken was too little..with massive e amount of sauce...we felt that we paid considerable sum for a sauce take away

An excellent evening! Our first time visiting and we were really impressed by the delicious food and friendly and professional service - the staff tried really hard and made us feel so welcome. Lovely atmosphere too. Highly recommend the Biryani. Looking forward to returning soon!

I am impressed with this restaurant. The service is friendly and the waiters are most helpful when you want to select a combination of ingredients for your curry, balti ot grill. They certainly don't skip on the meat or chicken in your meal. The prices are very reasonable for what they provide. Well worth a visit. A big thank you to Anwar, Ash and the other waiters Not forgetting the chef and his assistants too.

I used TripAdvisor to look for a restaurant while staying in Birmingham. So pleased with my choice. Excellent customer service, greeted with a genuine smile around as we got to the restaurant. We were quickly shown to our table that had previously been booked(definitely book if going on a Saturday). Waiting staff were very polite and efficient. Nothing to much trouble. Food was tasty, and I have to say I could not believe how reasonable the cost of the meal was!!! Will definitely be booking there again on my next visit!!!! 10/10

Great location being close to A45 and NEC. Clean atmospheric and welcoming restaurant. Extensive menu with the usual choices plus lots of things to try. Attentive staff, who are willing and able to answer questions on the menu. Fantastic tasty and well presented food.

Ate here whilst visiting the area for an event in the NEC. Despite the fact that there was a large party in at the time of our visit, the staff were attentive and friendly and the good we ordered prepared to a high standard. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals which were very generous in size! Thanks to the team.

The worst food I have ever had! Salmon curry was overdone and fish/ sauce tasteless, nan bread looked like it had been sat in the kitchen for weeks, rice/ chips awful, they didn’t care when I told them the food wasn’t nice as long as they got their money!! Definitely won’t be back🤬

I used to visit this place monthly, but will not come again. Tasteless food, a lot of fried dishes tasted of dirty oil and service was just OK. It also seemed much quieter than usual and the staff seemed more focused on takeaways and deliveries.

Used to love the food from here and hubby started collecting takeaway from shabar again, collected a takeaway tonite and we ordered a chicken tikka masala for me, it was red and tasted nothing like ctm, the sauce was like pureed sickly sweets it was so sweet and very sickly i couldn't eat it and I generally eat anything , really disappointed, can't of been a chicken tikka masala

Very quick and attentive service. I had kingfisher and cobra on draft. Poppadoms to start with crisp and great selection of dips and condiments including some I haven’t encountered before. I had the chicken tikka and prawn balti jalfrezi with a garlic naan and pilau rice. Really healthy portions, lovely colour to the main dish and fresh ingredients are clearly used. Waiters were attentive checking on quality and whether I needed anything further. Price is good value in my view. I would recommend.

Staff are brilliant and food was great too. We were spoilt rotten by the staff last night and they couldn't do more for if they tried. Absolutely brilliant evening. Thank you all.

Chicken tikka starter was very dry. A bit over cooked. Chicken balti was full of pepper. Food looked great, but was very disappointing.

Impressed with the service and the takeaway food. I enjoyed a Cobra whilst i waited. Good conversation with the waiter. I had a mushroom curry with chips, complimentary poppadoms, and two halves of Cobra for less than £15. Most important of all, the curry was spot on! Look forward to popping back

Had a wonderful meal here for the first time recently. We shared a mixed meat and veggie platter for starters. For mains we had two curries off the specials and a korma, plus a garlic and peshawari naans and a saag paneer on the side. We shared them all between us, and I have to say, everything tasted beautiful 👌🏻 we all thoroughly enjoyed everything, thank you 🙏🏻 The prices were very reasonable and the service was top class. Would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to others.

I haven’t been to Shabar since I was a little kid, and instantly soon as I walked in it all just looked the same. The restaurant had a very outdated feel about it. The food was okay nothing too special. I am part of a curry club and we go around Birmingham trying various curry restaurants. We asked the waiter if Shabar did traditional Balti which he responded Yes, but then later retracted what he said by saying they did not cook in the Balti dish Instead they transfer into another dish. This is somewhat false advertising online as it states Traditional Balti Restaurant. The naan breads was okay and the Popadoms and Chutney was okay except the onion salad looked a little old and not fresh. I personally don’t feel like it’s somewhere I would go back too as I believe there’s better in Birmingham.

I do not usually comment on food as it is subjective, but it is safe to say this restaurant never disappoints. The food is exquisite, the staff very friendly, helpful and pleasant. The restaurant itself is very clean and feels just pleasant to be in. Brilliant curry house could not recommend more!

Visited yesterday and although I wasn't totally disappointed, it wasn't a patch on what it used to be, and not a patch on other local restaurants of similar cuisine. My Dupiaza balti was really bland with hardly any sauce at all and very dry. My partner has a butter chicken and this was bland and tasted of nothing but coconut. Naan bread and poppadoms was lovely.... and the chips. We ordered dessert, I had a banana boat and this was terrible. It was on a oval plate was swimming in some sort of juice, a cut up banana and 1 scoop of ice cream...... and some warmed up Tinned fruit cocktail on the side. I was driving so had a diet coke. How can they justify £4.25 for a glass of coke?? (This was out of a plastic 2 litre bottle) - so the second glass we had was flat. My wife had Rose wine, a small glass at £6 which again was cheap stuff. My wife works for the NHS so gets 10% on her blue light card. The male member of staff pulled a face when we presented the card at the time of payment. Look overall it wasn't terrible but I'm sorry we won't be visiting there again as there are many other better establishments in this area.

Table booked for 50th Birthday. Food was good quality. Took a while for the food to come out. Overall good place to eat and socialise with friends and family.

Ordered a meal to the Travelodge up the road...waited an hour as agreed, after an hour the meal arrived. The meal was totally cold and no dips came with the poppadoms...the main curry was chicken jalfrezi which I asked for spiced up...it was totally saturated with Cayen pepper!!??? After attempting to eat some withing 15 minutes I had severe diarrhoea!!!!!!!!!! ....I have just had to bin the entire meal...£30 wasted and feeling very yuk!!

A fantastic evening out with family. Booked a table for 7:45. We were running late so we pushed the reservation to 8. A quick and easy thing to do. Had to wait for the table as the place was packed and buzzing. Great atmosphere. Staff apologised numerous times and kept us updated. Great choice on the menu. Tasty food and excellent service.

17/02/2023 21.00 hours. By far the worst curry I have ever experienced. And worst of all they wouldn't recognise it. This place will not last serving people food like I experienced. I've changed my review this evening from 5 star to 0. We have gone from regular visitors at shabar to never again. Once bitten twice shy! Avoid at all costs.

Ordered a delivery and booked through Bookyup @ 6.09pm.Was told 60 mins for delivery, which for a Friday night was acceptable.After a few calls to Shabar, food finally arrived at 7.50pm. All food was cold and needed re-heating.Phoned Shabar and complained.Quite shocked at how disinterested they were regarding the lateness of my delivery. NO goodwill gesture, because we booked through Bookyup.If I had ordered direct they could give me a voucher for next time! Why would I order again? What a complete load of rubbish! Have dined in Shabar for many years, but have to say their after care service on delivery is totally shocking.Shame on all of you at Shabar for your total lack of compassion and understanding regarding this matter. Totally ruined the evening for my family, so I hope you feel good about your wonderful service! Also, I only gave one star because I had too. You'd actually be rated a zero!!
