Harborne Kitchen in Birmingham

We booked a few weeks in advance and for a Saturday night could only get an 1800 hrs table – always a good sign. The signature tasting menu revealed a chef who produces well balanced, tasty dishes without resorting to the deployment of weapons grade chillis and spices. Which was the best dish? – we enjoyed them all. As well as the outstanding cookery we were impressed with the friendly staff, our waiter’s detailed knowledge of the ingredients and the cooking techniques of each dish. The timing of the service of the food and wine pairing was precision personified. The Classic Wine Pairing (the cheaper of the two options) was the best that I can remember. A memorable evening – how have they avoided a Michelin star?

We had an exceptional experience at Harborne Kitchen when we visited in Feb 2024. From start to finish the attention to detail, care and quality of service from the staff was excellent. The tasting menus are well worth every penny, being some of the best food in Birmingham. Will definitely return.

Fantastic food and experience at Harborne Kitchen. The staff were wonderful throughout, special thanks to Anna who looked after us for the evening. We would recommend the chef’s table. It’s amazing to watch these masterpieces be created. The Chef’s are more than happy to be engaged in conversation and talk about what they’re doing, I thought this establishment maybe pretentious but I couldn’t have been more wrong. We had the 8 course taster menu and it was some of the best food we’ve ever had. The staff were super attentive and it was a very relaxed atmosphere. I would highly recommend.

Wow, wow, wow. This place might not have a Michelin star but it’s as good if not better than many I’ve been to. Food was insanely good, service excellent and we particularly liked the relaxed atmosphere. Great value for money given the quality. We’ll be back for sure.

From being greeted at the door to an end-of-meal cocktail at the bar, I had an exceptional evening. Service was swift and staff were attentive and informative. The cocktail was delicious and prepared/served professionally by Josh. The set menu contained so many courses, all of which were outstanding with some old favourites and new stars on show. The care and skill of chef Tom and the team showed in each course. When broken down by course, the price tag of £100 seemed cheap for food of this quality. Fine wine pairings by Jake enhanced each course and each one came with details that helped to understand both the wine and the pairing. No stuffiness or wine snobbery here (as I've found with other establishments). It's not been my first visit and won't be my last, despite it being 4hrs away from home.

We did a midweek 5 course for our Anniversary and it was very filling. The wine flights were amazing and the staff knowledge and warmth were second to none. Also really enjoyed the chilli margarita. Thanks Harborne Kitchen. We will be back!!

Amazing service from Harpreet, Ben, Adja, Zoe, Glenn, Lucas, Leah, Paulina, Bianca. Couldn’t recommend more. They need a pay rise. 10/10 service, Merry Christmas.

Four of us sat down for the tasting menu and every course was beautifully presented and soooooo tasty. A fantastic experience and we were well looked after all night.

Well. What a lovely time we had! From walking in, it was wonderful. Every member of staff we encountered was welcoming, warm, kind, attentive, friendly and beautifully human. It looked and sounded like they were happy too, which is important! We were given a great table and then enjoyed the 5 for 55 (one with wine flight and one vegan) which was sufficiently filling. The Aged Cheddar & Walnut was stupendous, then.....so was everything else. Everything. We've enjoyed many tasting menus in many countries over the years, and this ranks with the best. Beautifully created and presented, delicious food. My vegan dishes were inventive and full of taste. We'd echo all the positive words said on earlier reviews, and very much look forward to our next visit.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime and it had a nice relaxing buzz about the place. The restaurant itself is modern and from where we sat had a great view of the kitchen so we could hear all the activity involved in the presentation which I personally enjoy. We had the 5 for £55 with my wife having the vegetarian version and I have to say it was excellent - some great creations such as the Sourdough with Sweetcorn but my favourite was the main Braised Ox Cheek with Salt Baked Mash - which I suppose is as if should be! The Classic Wine Pairing worked well and perfectly complemented each dish. Service was excellent with each dish and wine being clearly described. I really enjoyed my visit to Harborne Kitchen & have no hesitation in recommending - we will be visiting again

Wowzers trousers. I cannot tell you how good this was. So we booked for a Thursday evening, celebrating a child free break. We opted for the 10 course meal, chefs table, with the wine flight. From the moment of arrival, the staff were incredible - lots of banter, SO much knowledge, and a warm, relaxed vibe. Then the food - wow! How this place doesn’t have a star, I’ll never know! Everything was perfection, and served beautifully. The chefs table was an amazing view point - all were beautifully timed, but also full of smiles and fun. Highlights for us were the trout tartlet, beef tartare, cod, and duck 👌🏻. The wine paired beautifully. (Special mention for the cherry wine) Overall, Niamh was a standout for service( I’ll take your faves to the grave) alongside Jacob for wine and running of such a smooth service, chef Tom for the food - and everyone else we encountered along our delicious ride. Thank you! We loved it! And we’ve eaten at some starred places multiple times….. you guys topped it. Husband ranks this as the best meal/food experience of his life. Cannot wait to come again before you get too famous.

As a family, we have always enjoyed coming to Harborne Kitchen as a treat since it opened. This time, I went with my partner to celebrate my birthday. We had the full tasting menu with classic wine flight and the food was delicious as always, with a great selection of wine from the sommelier. The staff were great at judging when we were ready to move on and we didn't feel rushed or slowed at all. On one course we enjoyed the wine and drank half before the food came and they noticed and topped up the glass which was lovely. As someone who used to work in hospitality, it was a joy to visit and be served by everyone at Harborne Kitchen, and I would recommend to anyone looking to have a lovely meal in Birmingham.

Our visit was long overdue, as it was a Christmas gift for last year . We booked early for the Tasting menu, which I would highly recommend, it was like being in a TV show . We watched the skill & precision of the food being prepared. The speed in which the kitchen found its pace was fabulous to watch everyone remained calm & professional. The food did not disappoint on any level. I thought we might leave hungry , as the portions look small. But think about it, it’s called a ‘taster’ menu. Hungry at the end we were not . Brilliant. The food was beyond excellent as was the service. We took my niece and her new hubby out to celebrate their recent marriage. It was their first experience of fine dining (we regularly eat at 2 and 3 star restaurants) and what an introduction. So glad glad we gave this place a try, it doesn’t have a Michelin star yet, but if they continue they way they are going it won’t be long. We had the ten course sample menu with the wine pairings. The food was excellent and the pairings matched the food perfectly. All the staff were attentive and professional. We will definitely be back in the future to eat here.

Went with friends as a treat for my 60th birthday. We opted for the 5 course tasting menu, the food and service were both fabulous. Would definitely recommend and will certainly return.

Went with family for a special occasion and we were blown away by how good this was. Whilst we were getting the tasting menu, they were able to cater for not just allergies but also personal dislikes wit food, so everyone got something they were able to enjoy and participate in the experience. The wine pairings were also phenomenal, and again, those who had a different course got a different wine to go with it. That said, it is not a cheap place to go - definitely a special occasion restaurant.

We had the full tasting menu and absolutely loved the whole experience. Every course was delicious and offered something a bit different. It is clear that time and effort has gone into creating the menu. The drinks were also fantastic, including probably the best and most unique cocktail I have ever had, and there was plenty of choice so should be something for everyone. The courses were spread out over several hours and we definitely felt satisfied by the end, without being too full. The restaurant had a good atmosphere. Staff were friendly and helpful, offering plenty of information about the food and wine. The approach to the service was high quality, whilst also being relaxed. HK had been recommended to us by several friends and we were not disappointed. We would definitely recommend to others and hope to go back ourselves as well. 10/10 and thanks to the chefs and front of house staff for a very enjoyable evening!

This is an excellent restaurant. Unfortunately, my wife was taken ill partly through our meal and we wanted firstly to thank the staff for their response. They were very kind and helpful. We had had the amuse bouche and first 3 courses of our "5 for 55" meals, which were all very good: strong and well enjoyable flavours, apart from the asparagus & mushrooms which was a bit bland for me. The wine flight was interesting and well matched wines. The staff were all very friendly and professional and made the whole experience a pleasure. One of the best neighbourhood restaurants. Highly recommended.

Our 1st visit to HK as a family to celebrate our lad’s birthday. What a great choice. A relatively quiet evening but the opportunity to be seated at the Chef’s Counter to eat was too good to turn down. We opted for the rather extensive 11 Course Taster Menu which @ £100 p.p. is not cheap (nothing special is nowadays) but when you watch the preparation & detail that goes into the presentation of each dish, carefully overseen by the Head Chef, then no complaints. As for the individual courses our favourites were: Chalk Stream Trout + Hollandaise + Herring’s Roe Fillet of Cod + Wild Mushrooms + Sea Herbs Wye Valley Rhubarb. I’m afraid though that the Aroma (read Pong) of the Baron Bigod Dish was a little over powered for our liking. Really appreciated the attentive / friendly/ knowledgeable waiting ladies & the efficiency/ cleanliness/ attention to detail of the chefs in the kitchen. A really enjoyable evening & glad that HK is not on our doorstep or we’d be bankrupt 😀. A final observation would be the amount of time that all the Chefs (Head Chef incl.) put into cleaning & preparing what was a spotless kitchen already for the next days service. Hats Off to you all .
