Sainsburys Restaurant in Milton Keynes

Went to the hub for something to eat, bought the cheapest item in the shop, allowing us to park in their car park, so cheaper than parking in CMK with their stupid car parking charges

Like it says in the title, it’s a cafe in a supermarket, so expectations have to be realistic? The cafe itself is clean and bright and the menu is exactly what you’d expect. The issue is really that Sainsbury’s don’t understand just how successful a good cafe could be, so don’t put enough effort into it. Poor management and no evidence of customer focussed training means that every visit is inconsistent, as are food delivery times. Very often there is only one member of staff front of house, with quite a few staff lurking in the kitchen area. They also seem to place very young staff in the cafe, as if it’s some sort of punishment, instead of sending team members with experience to assist in bringing younger or less experienced team members through. At this point I should say that the young lad on the till today was thoroughly pleasant and the young man who delivered our food, (George) was a delight to ourselves and everyone he came into contact with. In conclusion, Sainsbury’s have to get smarter about delivery in this particular cafe. It represents a great opportunity to make additional sales for themselves, but more importantly, to build loyalty and goodwill with their customers. You very much get the feeling that the cafe is ancillary to the shop and that no-one in the management team really cares about it, so long as it’s not causing them any bother? Basically, could do better!!!

I came here on my lunch break from work and was told my food would be ready and served to me in 10 minutes, soon enough 20 minutes had passed and I had not been served while customers who arrived after me had already been served. I went back to the counter and demanded a refund as it was taking too long, thankfully they immediately refunded me with no questions asked.

Today was our second and final visit. We attended for breakfast on both occasions, it took over 30 minutes for it to arrive, my partners two eggs arrived placed on top of each other, my meal was a mini breakfast, the beans were clearly place on the plate several hours ago as they were dry, and the rest of it was over cooked. The staff should be given training on providing a good service as they are far too slow The table we had was dirty, customers are supposed to put used items on a rack when leaving, many don’t. Sainsbury’s are missing a trick, it’s a nice space, enhance the menu, many shoppers would use more frequently.

Came here for lunch before a Sainsbury’s food shop and was very disappointed. The food is okay because it’s just Sainsbury’s own, but the service is so so slow. It shouldn’t take 15 mins to unwrap a premade sandwich and toast it. The restaurant is also filthy, the staff just don’t seem to care about keeping it clean. There were no clean tables when we visited and left plates and filth on most tables even though there was hardly anyone in there. We had to clear a table ourselves and wipe it down with napkins. If they just hired staff who actually cared about the condition of the restaurant or the service they provide then it wouldn’t be so bad!

ok so its a supermarket cafe but surley a sandwich and a coffee is not too dificult! nuff said will get an apple next time which is probably better for me than the so called sandwich I just had.

I have eaten in several Sainsburys restaurants and some are exceptional I am afraid this one is not and surprisingly so. There is a limited menu on the day I ate there for lunch. What I can say to their credit is that the food was cooked hot and fresh and there was a nice selection of drinks and side dishes available as well . Predominantly local produce and certainly fresh. Plus the coffee range and taste was excellent. It was also efficient and nice and quiet away from the Supermarket right next door. It serves its purpose if you are spending half a day shopping then finish off or start with a meal. Parking is free and very close to the actual shopping floor. These are all big advantages in Milton Keynes . Service with a smile. All of those extra points pushed the rating to very good.

A supermarket cafe with supermarket type food, some good some bad and some indifferent. staff behind the counter are very good on their mobile phones (I am assuming this for the time they spend using them!)would I go back? if I have to.

I was determined to visit this café so I could do a fresh review, not having visited for quite a while. It doesn't seem to have improved I'm afraid. There wasn't a queue when I arrived and there very few other customers seated at the tables. It seems from reading other reviews on here that other people have written non-too flattering reviews. I never try to wirite anything negative, and if I do, I only hope that those in charge would take on board the problems that are mentioned. So, what can I say this time. It's such a pity when this could be a far better café if things were taken in hand and improved. There is a farily good selection of items to eat. I say 'fairly,' because the iced cake I chose looked uninspiring. Although the ham and cheese toasty wasn't bad and came to my table, toasted, fairly rapidly. Also, the latte wasn't as bad as some places I've been, but, could have been better. I think my final words would be like what you would get on a school report, 'could do better.' Come on Sainsbury's you can do far better than this.

The person working the till, irrespective of the number of people in the queue, makes the coffees; everybody waits. The queue is pointedly ignored The meal delivery time is erratic, sometimes good, often terrible. Is there a manager who can change things? Do they ever read these reviews? Peter

This is the second time this month that we have visited this cafe and boy, what a mistake. All we ordered were two bowls of chips and had to wait over 40 minutes for them to turn up. The cafe wasn't very busy but everybody was having to wait. One family had two order numbers that were given at the same time but the food arrived more than 15 minutes apart! There doesn't seem to be more than one person doing the cooking at the rate it's coming out of the kitchen!They obviously don't have anybody in charge and need to sort it out asap. We certainly won't be coming back!

Visited this store for a late lunch, if only!!! It was around 2.30pm, when we arrived only to find the only main meal's that were available was one portion of shepherds pie and lasagne, the rest needed to be cooked, considering the shop is open until 8pm, worries me, why serve hot food? Also the cake selection only one portion of carrot, lemon and chocolate cake, some packets of cakes, that looked like they'd come from the shop, it was a shambles!! Asked if there was any more carrot cake, only to be told it was frozen. This is a cafe in a major supermarket, couldn't someone, where's the supervisor/ manager in all of this, get some provisions from the SHOP, it's not rocket science. Also alot of the tables, hadn't been cleared and the trolley for putting your dirty trays on, was full. Come on, you can do better!!

Food was very tasty, good home style cooking, served hot! Friendly staff, quick service just what you need,on a busy shopping trip.

Light breakfast at sainsburys mk thought id have poached egg on toast No sorry no poached egg . But you can have fried egg or scrambled ok scrambleds good Mistake No flaver at all . Guess it's another pre-packed product Yuk Horrible Come on sainsburys how hard is it to scrambled some eggs

We'd finished our shopping in Sainsbury's on a Wednesday morning, and decided on a break, so we went into the café. Nothing particularly special, rather lacking in atmosphere, although light and airy, but a fairly good selection of food. We had lattes and pastries and sat on sofas in the lounge area. Tables kept clean and dirty cups and plates cleared regularly and plenty of room to sit and relax. Staff very efficient and friendly, which makes the experience all the more pleasant.

Me and my wife ordered cheese and beans jacket potatoes. Very nice and quick service. Can’t go wrong. We would definitely come back again. Thanks

Popped in for a spot of shopping one Saturday and decided to stop for breakfast. Great value for money. Slight delay as assume only one chef and cafe was busy. Omelette was lovely and very filling

We came here at 6pm and there were few customers. Everything we asked for was still available and the service was prompt. The ham egg and chips comprised 2 large slices of ham and 2 fried eggs. Cottage pie was rather small but the peas were freshly cooked - not the khaki mass you get at the end of the day in many places. The fresh chocolate eclairs were the best I have tasted in a long while! They had loads of fresh cream which squirted out when you bit into them.

Have enjoyed lunches here in the past but lately the food could do with a little bit of more effort put in again. The restaurant is always well clean and the staff are very friendly and hard working - service is always with a smile. Fresh cooked food is delicious and more variety will be a true bonus. Comfortable seating. Have enjoyed coming over for a break every time as its always clean and friendly place to hang out in. Newspapers help too! Thank you.

While staying in the Hub we decided to get the paper from Sainsburys and then try the café for ourselves. We had an excellent breakfast, egg and bacon sandwich for my husband and egg, bacon tomato and toast for me at a very reasonable price. We were served by a nice young man, the food was freshly cooked and we didn`t wait long. If we visit Milton Keynes again we will be back.

I used to go to the Sainsburys restaurant a lot. However after many times I am fed up.

Nice store, lovely friendly, helpful staff. Sushi bar is great! Could do with more of a selection of food, brands. but I appreciate this is not the largest of stores. Clothing is great too.

We came for a breakfast in this cafe on a Saturday morning (08.30) not busy at all, there were 2 couples in the whole restaurant the time we were there. We waited 35 minutes for a vegetarian breakfast and a kids breakfast. The eggs were raw (still jelly like all the way through), the veggie sausage was that hard it could have done some serious damage if thrown at somebody, the beans were stone cold and the meat sausage had so much gristle in it I had to try and stop myself throwing the 1 mouthful I had, back up. Kempston Sainsbury's cafe is absolutely fantastic and have never had any problems there, so I don't understand how the food was so bad. I honestly wouldn't have fed this food to my dog if I had one!! Truly disappointed sainsburys, I won't be visiting the mk store again

Went for coffee and cake. Slow service as only 1 person on the counter. Not many cakes left at 2:30. Coffee was nice

This "restaurant" (cafeteria would be a better description) benefits from an elevated position with large picture windows and in this mornings sunshine we thought, we'll give it a try. Oh dear. Cappuccino almost bereft of any coffee and a twenty minute wait (late morning, not busy)for a mushroom omelette (their description, not mine). The coffee was sort of rescued by an extra shot (no apology - but no query either so I assume I wasn't the first). The "omelette" was more of an egg pancake with some mushrooms thrown in at the end). I have attached a picture as I an struggling for an adequate description.

We are regular shoppers in Sainsbury's and Saturday mornings is the time we do our weekly shop and on this occasion we visited the restaurant we needed a pick-me-up to get our trip started. There is a reasonable selection of cakes and other edible items to view as you wait in the queue to be served. If I have a quibble it was the length of time it took to be served. The lattes were warm and adequate, my wife had vanilla and I had caramel. Once at the till these were made quickly. The carrot cake was pleasant. The whole place is clean and tidy, my one annoyance in such places is to have to move dirty plates and cups off a table before sitting down. As this is a self-clear establishment it would appear that customers adhered to this policy. A pleasant enough experience but certainly nothing particularly special compared with other supermarket restaurants I have visited locally.

We could enjoy having a cheap and good breakfast here but there never seem to be enough staff available. Those that are working are exceptionally pleasant and helpful.
