Sainsbury's Cafe Chippenham, England in Wiltshire

A great lunch or casual dinner place is right in the supermarket! We had a great meal when we just went in for a quick snack after a successful food shopping trip. Kudos to the kitchen staff, especially JASON, who made us feel welcome and served up some great food (fish and chips, cheeseburgers, fries, hamburgers, chicken nuggets for the children). I'd go back any time we're shopping in Chippenham.

The young man who waited table was polite and considerate. He’ll go far. Believe it was his first day so amazing service The OMl was excellent as was the almond croissant. X

Omg rubbish breakfast or what...me and the wife wanted a sausage bap it was only just gone 9am only to be told not enough sausages for baps only for breakfasts.....drrrr....it's a supermarket..so we had 2 breakfasts and 2 cappuccinos...well the food rated 1 out of 10....lukewarm the only thing we enjoyed was the coffees...We are definitely NOT going there again....would I recommend it...NO...

It's a restaurant in a superstore! That said, I have always been happy with the service and food. Perhaps a slightly larger menu choice would be good. I have recommended it to others.

Had a quick snack with my daughter a day ago. My sausage rolls was quite the worst roll I have ever eaten - poor pastry, weird tasting filling. My daughter's vegan roll was not much better. Coffee was terrible. Avoid at all costs.

I'm gobsmacked...went here for lunch yesterday with my mum (saturday lunchtime) ...the place was empty...I was looking forward to a nice jacket potato or all day breakfast...was told they are no longer serving hot meals as it's no longer a cafe!...instead it's now being trialled as a coffee bar. If I wanted a coffee bar I would go to one. SAINSBURYS - It doesn't take a genius to figure out that this is NOT a good idea - sort your restaurant out and return it to its former glory! No wonder the place was empty. I will eat at Morrisons from now on.

Very disappointed with both our cooked breakfasts. Our eggs were broken with yokes swimming around other items, not very hot and hash browns greasy. Over cooked sausages and undercooked bacon

Popped in for a spot of lunch why did we bother besides waiting for over 20 mins jacket potato with tuna sweetcorn served cold sausage mash and beans cold Even a plate of chips yes you got it cold..... Do not bother even thinking if going there

The state of the food here is abysmal and the water tasted funny. Food was cold to touch. Would not recommend and definitely will not return! Be warned!!

Decided on a breakfast whilst shopping in the store as the cafe looked empty (only six tables occupied) Ordered a Pot of tea & a Big Breakfast, managed to find a clean table then discovered I had no cup or milk, Breakfast looked good on the plate but took nearly 20 minutes to arrive, pretty obvious that only the egg & toast was freshly cooked as bacon, sausages & beans were just warm. The cafe appeared to be understaffed as both tray trolleys were full and were so for the duration of my visit Would have raised the issue at the customer service desk but there was a long queue to speak to anyone Don't understand why the cafe has gone "down hill" over the past few months as on previous visits the food was always hot and waiting times minimal

I was astonished at what I was served. I ordered a ham and mushroom omelette with a side salad. The salad consisted of four pieces of cucumber, four mini tomatoes and a couple of leaves of unknown variety. The omelette was a circle of reconstituted egg mix, folded over a couple of pieces of slice mushroom and a couple of very thin pieces of tasteless ham. This rates as one of the worst meals I have ever eaten.

A nice cafe and well laid out. The coffee was good and service was swift but tables had not been cleared and had to find a clean table. But overall a good experience

Ordered a big breakfast in a half empty cafe. 30 minutes later still waiting. People say after me served before. Food eventually arrived. Was ok. Soggy ‘toast ‘ and dried up egg. Won’t bother again

On route for coffee and shopping to find the car park being cleared of snow by the manger in her suit and heels! Bravo to all the staff helping her

We went into the restaurant for a quick snack, but it took a bit longer than expected. Our food order was very basic: two baguettes with chicken in. The food took about half an hour to arrive, possibly longer. There appeared to be staffing issues, as the manager was working the till, etc. The restaurant seemed about half full. The food was odd. We had failed to notice that the small baguettes came with gravy, which was a bit of an oversight, but to be honest, I cannot begin to imagine how processed chicken could ever go with gravy? We had to ask for a refund, which was awkward on top of awkward. Probably just an off-day, but we will not go back.

Third visit here. Complained the first two visits...didn’t bother on the third. No improvement - food service slow, and arrived cold. Tables not cleared, but staff were enjoying a great chat, it seemed churlish of me to interrupt them to place an order. Coffee not pleasant Avoid!

Was really impressed by the warm welcome from the waitress behind the counter and the large mugs for the coffee were lovely and big - perfect on a cold night like tonight! Mark was also really accommodating, always smiling and even offered to help me find a plug to charge my laptop from. Both working hard and providing great customer service! I didn't try the food (apart from a lovely moist Victoria sponge) but can definitely say they've got some great staff working here. I'll be back.

Wow not been to this cafe for quite some time and what a surprise I had

Called in for lunch with my daughter two days ago (1pm). The café was busy and I was surprised to see the counter was very short of supplies (eg very few cakes/pastries, only two bread rolls in the basket, no fish and chips left). We managed to select something to eat from the meagre selection, my daughter choosing a panini which needed heating. We sat down with our coffee and waited......and waited.....(like everyone else around us) and the panini arrived after about twenty minutes - burnt. However, we were reluctant to complain too much because the café was very under staffed and the young woman on the till was trying to clear tables, collect more trays, chase up food orders, etc. The whole café was in total disarray with staff dashing around and doing their best. Shame on the management! We were offered a refund for the panini which we refused (It was a lovely flavour apparently) because we could visualise

We often use daily to pop in here for breakfast. It was really good. Reasonable food, pretty good service. However, we noticed a gradual decline in service, just didn't seem to be enough staff on. Then in July, we popped in for breakfast. We paid and waited...and waited. After 40 minutes we asked where our meal was and was told it was likely to be 'another 20 mins or so'. So we asked for a refund. We gave the cafe a wide bearth until yesterday. Long story short, after 20 mins a young girl came out and apologised saying ' she was on our own' and ' she had just out the sausages in and 'it would be another 5 minutes'. 15 mins late it arrived!

Visited on a Sunday afternoon, the cafe was virtually empty but there wasn’t a table free that didn’t have dirty crockery and trays on it, one table had a tray of dirty plates on a seat! We ordered coffee and doughnuts from very pleasant staff. The coffee was undrinkable, it was bitter, tasted burnt and lukewarm, the doughnuts were nice. I had to clear a table to sit down, the cutlery station was filthy, serviettes were everywhere and dirty. We ate the doughnuts, left the coffees and went to the toilets. The ladies toilets were so dirty we left without using, even though there was a cleaning warning sign in the middle of the floor. Clearly the sign had been left without actually doing any cleaning. The management really need to get a grip on the cleanliness in this store. First and last time we will use.

Stopped at the cafe on a Sunday afternoon. We had a hot chocolate and carrot cake. Both were extremely lovely and the cake was moist. The staff were lovely and a credit to the team.

Not great. By the time it took for the guy to turn around to the coffee machine he forgot my order for a hot chocolate. Then had a 30 minutes wait for food in a half empty cafe. Sausage was chewey egg had a hard yolk and the crispy bacon I asked for was anything but crispy. There was also need no hash brown

The Americano used to be good but now it is VERY poor. They now charge real money for this slightly cheaper than the 'coffee chains' but only 25% of the quality. The 'barista' (I use the title cynically) fills it up with water so you cannot get any milk in - today (16-02-18) the one on duty gives the impression of not caring which comes over in the quality and presentation. Come on Sainsbury's show you care

Not the most appealing meal that’s ever been put in front of ... tried writing to head office with pictures ... no reply ...

Meals very good and good value pity the staff member at counter can't say please or thank you milk jug slammed into tray

Called in for lunch while shopping and disappointed again.

Decided to stop here for breakfast. Ordered two full full English, after a 25 minute wait I asked how much longer I would have to wait the person walked off to the kitchen and returned out with what I thought was our breakfast no it was somebody else’s another 5 minutes went by and eventually our breakfast arrived with no apology for the delay, by that time we had finished our teas due to the terrible service. The breakfast was good but so let down by the poor service would not revisit the cafe again.

Have lunch here regularly however there have been changes.

We both had the big breakfast, Everything was overdone,the sausages,the bacon,the egg.Terrible! We all know one has to be careful with cooking meat but please do not cook it to death¬

Good cafe for supermarket , friendly staff and tables kept clean as is the floor .Good value hot drinks and snacks and the special meal looked very good value .

Buena selección de cosas para elegir y puede recomendar el desayuno. No es el mejor en productos baratos, pero bien cocinado y servido por un personal agradable.

Un fabuloso desayuno inglés completo. Bien preparado, super servicio, personal agradable, excelente relación calidad-precio. Bien hecho Sainsburys.

Tomamos el desayuno aquí. El té era horrible, no pude terminar. Los granos, de patata y bacon salchichas marrones eran todos tibia y aunque el huevo estaba recién preparado podría haber hecho con otro minuto en la sartén. Los cubiertos estaban sucios y tuve varios intentos de seleccionar artículos limpio de usar.

When I take elderly relatives shopping I use this café and Melksham Sainsburys café. The food is always freshly cooked, served with a smile and excellent value for money. There is always a good range of meals and snacks. We often see the same faces of customers when we go so it is obviously popular and good enough for people to return on a regular basis.

Tasty meal with hubby I had fish and chips he had lasagna chips and garlic bread both had coffee really good value.

I would like to personally thank Jordan for looking after my mum last Saturday .. You were an absolute star it has managed to restore my faith in human nature and also the staff in the Chippenham sainsbury cafe ... Thank you again Jordan

Last time I went I chose soup expecting it to be home made and it tasted as if it came out of a tin, yuck

Not the sort of cage you'd choose for atmosphere but if we're shopping there we've discovered the child's baked potato is just perfect for a snack lunch.

Good selection of snacks and main meals all reasonably priced. Drinks can be slow service. Don't forget to get your Nectar card swiped.

Whilst travelling in the area we wanted a simple, no fuss meal. Often supermarket cafes are dissapointing and expensive but not this one. I wasn't expecting fine dining but I was very pleased with the fluffy omelette I received and thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was quick, staff were very friendly and helpful and they kept the cafe clean and tidy. I was very happy and will certainly stop there again when I'm passing through.

While in sainsburys my husband and I decided to go and have a pot of tea. My husband had not long come out of hospital and he walks with two sticks. When we walked into the cafe there was 3 members of staff stood in are way. I would say they were management and they were discussing the layout of the cakes. They never moved out the way and could see how my husband was struggling. They finally moved out the way. We ordered are drinks and my husband said to them instead of looking at the cake display you should really be looking at the coffee machine as it had coffee and milk tops under it and it looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a while. We then we're handed the drinks in dirty tea pots and lipstick marks on the cups. We asked for clean ones and they were all the same. We just left it and went home feeling very disappointed.

I enjoy eating the ham, egg and chips here as im passing through whilst doing a shopping spree. I always find the service quick and efficient. The good thing about eating or drinking in the cafe is the large choice of newspapers to read.

For a cafe in a supermarket; this one is great..food is tasty and varied and the staff very friendly...good value for money.

An ideal cafe facility to give a break before starting to shop or whilst shopping. Good clean facility, good clean service and reasonable cost. Basic but good.

We ate at this cafe rather than pay the "Grockle" prices at nearby Lacock.We had fish & chips, tea and coffee.The hand battered fish is one of the best we have had. Staff were helpful and chearful.Good hygine rating.

Having popped in for a bite to eat before shopping I was surprised at the staff moral no one smiled said please or thankyou after taking my order felt like I was imposing coffe was bland and good pricey for what it was

The coffee here is very good and at a bargain price compared with the coffee chains. Never actually eaten here but the food, given that it is a supermarket café, looks good

I like the atmosphere in the restaurant and the seating is good particularly for people such as myself who support people with learning difficulties who invariably have difficulties walking.The restaurant staff are helpful and caring. My only bugbear is the price of everything and I feel that regular customers should be part of a loyalty scheme -especially if they eat/drink here every single week.

Sainsburys Café serves food which is probably superior to other café outlets. The staff are friendly and the café is always clean.

The service can be a little on the slow and haphazard side, but then on a Sunday there is no rush, and Breakfast has got to be the best meal of the day , so I thought I would treat my self and create my own breakfast !! Not a good idea... Can you really justify the individual item prices ??? 70p for half a tomato !!!! 2 slices of bacon £1.60 and a sausage 80p total £3.10 .. And that's without a cup of tea !! Are these prices calculated so we don't confuse the kitchen staff ??? I think I'll stick to the toasted tea cake next time.....

It is after all a cafe. Keep that in mind. It's a supermarket managed cafe keep that in mind too. Service is slow and not particularly great. Food is average too and staffing attitudes need working on. Breakfast can look a bit of a mess presentation wise. MacDonalds next door is better, faster and offers great service.

Had a walk around the town to see how things had changed over ten years since my husband last ivied there before we got married. He noticed a lot of changes.

This is a typical cafe to be found in most Sainsbury's Stores offering the same limited menu but what is not typical is the staff.They are always courteous, charming and very helpful especially so to the vulnerable in society.I am amazed to see that they maintain this attitude to their customers month in and month out.The food is very good value for money and generally served speedily and efficiently.The elderly, disabled, able-bodied and children are all catered for and treated equally.Well done Sainsbury's Chippenham!
