Group of seven adults! Starters were prawn puree for three , one chicken , all were small portions compared to what they used to be hardly any salad with them. All of us commented on how Bland our mains tasted and again smaller portions than had on previous occasions. I had Chicken Tarka which was very poor , some of the items stated were in it definitely were not ! I asked the waiter he said it was what I had ordered ? The rice too was tasteless and greasy . Will be a long time before we visit again as the food has definitely gone down hill which is a shame as it used be very tasty and plenty of it !

Very good hospitality from the staff. Last night I was here to say farewell to a colleague who is retiring. I was with with my little boy (2y9m). They made my son feel very welcome by preparing a special meal for him even they didn't had a kids menu. ❤️ Thank you and well done. We will come back.

A lovely meal. Plenty of vegetarian choice and they were willing to make meals not on the menu. The friendly staff and presentation of the food was first class. Good portion sizes too and not overly expensive. A very clean and welcoming restaurant. We will definitely go again.

Really disappointed. Customer service appalling. Food okay but in my opinion the place has gone downhill. The outside areas are scruffy. Questioned why we wanted to change an absolutely flat, awful glass of wine. Served the wrong dish and I felt really uncomfortable with the atmosphere. Dined here a lot but will not use again. £160 spent but disappointed. Choose to spend our money elsewhere where we are valued as customers who pay the establishments wages!!

The place has completely gone downhill. This restaurant used to be extremely busy- bookings only. The food used to be good and the service also as good. Visited to find hardly anybody in there. First of all a glass of Zinfandel was served to my son’s partner. She said it tasted like it had been opened and stored in the fridge. I told the waiter and his reply was ‘ no it hasn’t and Zinfandel is just like that ’ almost had to beg him to completely change the drink. Food eventually came with the wrong rice. Again it was a bit of an effort for it to be changed. For the 4 of us the bill was just over £160. Not good value, not great food and rude service. I am afraid we will not be going again. The whole place needs refurbing as it doesn’t look in the best of health. What a let down.

Went there for a family meal last night and was greeted by friendly and helpful staff. The food and service was very good.

Food and service excellent, we had the lamb rogan josh which melted in your mouth. We met the owner on paying our bill and had a lovely chat. We will be back.

Everything is amazing. The service was brilliant. Friendly and efficient. The menu offers an extensive range of very different imaginative dishes. I had the monkfish starter and my husband had the lamb chops. Both were marvellous. Husband had lamb de khodu and I had lamb relish. I can honestly say I have never had a better curry. Even the poppadoms are an experience. The food is really well executed and very different. Subtle and delicious. We would definitely recommend.

Normally a better standard of food than this last visit. Disappointed 😞

Totally rude person who picked up the phone

VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! The food was TASTELESS and BLAND. Each dish just had no taste and so you couldn’t identify what you were eating. Complained to the manager.They did apologise, however , received no refund. We will not be returning.

Have had very nice meals from here in the past but very disappointed with the takeaway for me and my wife on Saturday. Had a Kebab Platter for two as the starter. Very tasteless and bland. All the meats tasted the same. The salad that came with it was a joke. Half a cherry tomato, 2 cubes of carrot and a bit of lettuce between two (see photo). The main meals were also both very bland and flavourless although my wife did say the lamb in the special biryani was nice and tender. Won't be going back.

I recently dined at Saffron Cottage and had a fantastic experience! The service was impeccable, attentive, and made the entire meal delightful. The samosa chaat was a burst of flavors, perfectly balanced and a great start to the meal. As for the curry selection, it was extensive and each dish was prepared with care, showcasing authentic flavors. The starters were a highlight, setting the tone for a memorable dining experience. I highly recommend Saffron Cottage for anyone craving delicious Indian cuisine served with exceptional service. Five stars all the way! Highly recommend top place

Meal was amazing!! Fabulous choice on the menu. Staff were so pleasant and helpful. Very reasonably priced and cannot fault this restaurant at all.

Expensive for the quality of the food.not very hot and poor selection.poppadoms were charged extra for as well as an extra portion of onions .not enough on the chutney tray for four people,had to ask for more.charged extra for that too.dissapointed.wont visit again.

We have been to the Saffron Cottage on numerous occasions & we have always been delighted with the friendly service, relaxed ambiance, interesting menu & amazing cuisine! Whether it's a romantic dinner, a family celebration or just a weekend treat the Saffron Cottage never disappoints! Give it a try & you will want to return again & again ( as we do!).

Avoid this place!!! Awful experience. Ordered food via the phone. Told 40 minutes. When we arrived we had to wait another 40 minutes. And the food was cold.

Absolutely delicious food. Such an interesting and varied menu. I couldn’t fault a single thing about it. Can’t wait to visit again! Friendly service and reasonable prices.

We got takeaway whilst staying in the local area and the food was really really nice. An interesting starter was curried scallops, something we've never seen anywhere else and it was amazing. The restaurant looked really nice inside, next time we'll stop in for food.

Very nice Indian food , staff could have been a little friendly , but it was wasn’t a problem . Could have been a bit warmer in there and also perhaps a little bare of flowers or something on the table to cheer the place up a little . Toilets needed a bit of attention . Food was very good , just lacked a little atmosphere . X

Now £18.50 for the buffet. Previously £14.50. Last visit had 3 chicken curries and 1 lamb curry. Tepid temperature for the starters. Won't go again at these prices.

So delighted to find this 5 star Indian restaurant. The table cloths and ambience and staff were so inviting and warm. The food was exceptional - rarely would I go for monk fish in a clay pot - so glad I did. Very definitely would recommend.

I called up Saffron cottage new year's eve last minute to see if they could fit me and my girlfriend in, as our previous plan had failed. They welcomed us with a table and made us feel at home from the start, although very busy, the service was faultless, fast and the food tasted amazing! This place has staff that are very good at working under pressure and it really showed tonight. Thanks again, will definitely return 😁

Very accesible place - one of our party is in a wheelchair, they held doors open for us and the place itself is so open and roomy, no hard corners to get around. They had clearly listened to our request for a big table, there was so much room and they had moved a chair to make space for the wheelchair which not many places do (normally we have to get rid of a chair ourselves). Fod was fab, service excellent. My food seemed a little bland/mild (biryani) but I wonder if they cater to the clientel i.e. not "proper" Indian food as Shropshire folk may not like it, haha! Overall great.

A lamb madras like no other! We stayed across the road from the restaurant and decided to try it despite some of the negative reviews. Damn glad we did! The service was swift and very good. Drinks were served before your food order and then you are taken into a lovely dining room. The food is stunning. I have many lamb madras, but never with a delicious fruity tang that lingered in a good way. My wife has chicken tikka dopiaza and that was also outstanding. Absolutely great eating experience and I recommend you try this excellent restaurant.

Can honestly hands down say this is the BEST indian take away we have ever had!! We have been staying in the Wigmore Lakes nearby and spotted Saffron Cottage on our way to Shrewsbury…and we sure are glad that we did. The butter chicken was divine…prime cut of chicken in a delicious sauce, fluffy rice, delightful naan bread, and the prawn puree starter was to die for too! We are just gutted that we don’r live nearer! We will definitely be returning when in the area!

Mango Lassi is good. But I didn't like the food taste. Paneer is too sweet with red sauce gravy.

Table was booked for 5:45 we were early. Asked to take a seat while we ordered our drinks, shortly after we gave our food orders. We didn’t have to wait long to be seated at our table. Poppadoms pickles and chutneys were devoured within minutes…. Lovely and fresh. Shortly followed were the main courses. Kids had the old faithful chicken nuggets.. according to them the best chicken nuggets they’ve ever had. One of our friends left his main course in the hands of the chef, he likes to try different stuff. The chef made him a special dish and he wasn’t disappointed , the rest of us all ate from the menu. Our friends from up north said it’s the best Indian they have ever had the pleasure of eating. Car park is spacious, toilets aren’t great could go with a bit of tlc , price was good

Very disappointed we have been coming here for years and always been happy with the service. Today we went to celebrate a birthday with family we arrived on time to be told that we hadn’t booked which we had an email confirmation for. We waited 30 minutes for them to arrange a table for us we were told 3 times that someone would come to take our drinks order we waited 50 minutes for a drink!! Self service buffet was ok with limited vegetarian options. No one collected dirty plates or asked if we wanted any more drinks! When someone eventually came to the table to collect dirty plates I commented that I was unhappy with the service as they are usually very good to which the member of staff just laughed and walked off!! Such a shame as I had told family how good it was and felt very let down.

Got there early so we were the first ones there, buffet was spot on, everything was hot, fresh and flavoursome! Staff were all very accommodating! Will def go again!

We were so looking forward to our visit here . It was a treat for my daughter passing year 2 at university. It was such a let down from start to finish . Basically we were sat at the table and forgot about . We had to ask to be served . From poppodums to mains it seemed like ages . When the food did arrive it was tasteless. The only good thing is the food was hot . So disappointed. Sadly we won’t go again or recommend it to our friends .

What a wonderful restaurant! The food was delicious, you could tell that it was freshly prepared to order, and it was presented so elegantly. Service was extremely prompt and the staff were so pleasant. A wonderful relaxed atmosphere in a beautifully decorated restaurant where you can feel just as comfortable having a very formal meal as well as enjoying a big family gathering. You must go!

Been eyeing this place up for a while now and recently spotted the sign for the Buffet,so thought we would give it a try.. Very disappointed tbh..I was expecting a lot of selections but one trolley with chips rice ,onion bhajis and a few other bits and a choice of 4 curries.. The bhajis,chips and rice were almost stone cold and all uncovered..1 of the curries was a mild korma,2 were medium and 1 hotter but all lacked any real flavour.. Once is enough for me as i woke up with an upset stomach the following morning.

We had 14 people for the set meal choices, it went extremely well and the service and food was five star. All agreed it was a great night and the Cobra beer flowed nicely. We will be there again next year. Thanks to all at Saffron Cottage 😁🍷🍻

Was looking for a restaurant for dinner while on my way to Snowdonia when I found the saffron cottage and with the amazing reviews I thought I found a jewel. The place has great decor and a really unique welcoming concept where you are seated in a lounge area where you order your drinks and food. Once the food is ready, you are then escorted to your table. The servers and the host are very polite. That's where the good part ends. Cue the food we ordered. A kebab platter of Seekh Kebab, mughlai chicken kebab, tava chicken kebab and chicken tikka. Scallops on a skewer Monkfish tikka The food was horrendous!! And I don't use this term lightly. The seekh kebab was decent but nothing to write home about. The same can be said about the chicken tikka. The tava chicken kebabs and mughlai chicken kebabs were so dry that I needed an entire bottle of water to wash them down. The scallops were over cooked and really rubbery. It was like eating chewing gum. The monkfish tikka was greasy as it seemed like it had a batter on it and was deep fried. I was really hungry so I ate most of the food as I couldnt be bothered to complain and wait for more food. I'm so glad I didn't order any mains as it was quite painful with the starters. All in all, a very disappointing experience and I would not recommend this restaurant. This is NOT what Indian food tastes like!

Had the best Indian food here. The fish platter was perfect and the duck was superb. The staff were very helpful and service was good. Definitely will be going back.

Meet & Greet was awful... before identifying whether we were a takeaway/restaurant customer, we were told to sit down and wait (we were eating in)...... Once identified as restaurant customer menus were supplied, and drinks/food orders were efficiently taken. Service at the table was completely acceptable... The Food... We had a sizzling mixed kabab to share starter; edible, but nothing special, raw/uncooked chili spoiled some items..... Mains... Chicken Bhuna; we could identify this was a bhuna, but the sauce lacked any depth..... Chicken pathia was unrecognizable, basically edible, but again sauce was thin.... Peshwari naan was raw (uncooked dough)..... Meal with 2 drinks was £58 so not cheap. Would I recommend Safron Cottage?... No, you go to a restaurant for the food, and this was (based on taste) well below parr; "you can't make up for poor flavour with pretty presentation".

Another delightful dining experience at Saffron Cottage! A friendly welcome with a drink whilst choosing from the extensive menu & a very relaxed & delicious meal in a tasteful & comfortable dining area. I would highly recommend it!

Never had a bad meal from here we usually sit in but were in a rush so ordered take away fantastic food and staff are lovely, loads of parking not long waiting time definitely worth a visit thankyou to all!

Excellent service with exceptional food. It's definitely worth a visit. The menu is extensive, and the chef will alter a dish in terms of spice should you require it either by cooling it down or tickling it up.

This is the worst meal going. The curry meal at Wetherspoons outstands what we had tonight for a fraction of the price the poppadum's were served in pieces and where soft/stale The curries were worse than the cheap 99p ones you get out of the freezer in your bargain store. I will say the naan bread was nice. Put the dampeners on the Christmas spirit The Peroni bear was good. The Manager was not at all interested in the comments but had no choice with the reduced payment made, Certainly will not venture there again, Get a far better curry served in my kitchen at home.

Best Indian restaurant in the countryside

Loved the place, clean and tidy, very friendly staff, food arrived quickly, was excellent, and reasonably priced, will definitely be back again soon.

I’ve been passed this place for years and always said one day I’ll try it- so tonight me and the wife drove 40min from Bridgnorth to give it go. I can tell you now- you won’t be disappointed- these guys now how to cook a curry- they should do as they’re from Walsall ( couldn’t believe it when talking to the owner) - ambience and decor great- friendly staff who are also from the Walsall area- and the food was simply amazing, tasty, plenty, fresh, and not overly expensive. Will definitely be heading back.

Been going to the Saffron over a 10 year period , the food and staff have always been excellent , but on our latest visit , all was fine until we got the bill , with a rather large service charge on it , wich made a expensive night out even more expensive, so unfortunately won't be returning , we always left a healthy tip anyway, so why is there a need for a 20 pound plus service charge ?...

Cracking curry house, meals were lovely and service was good well worth the drive over from wednesbury.

Tested this place out tonight. Went for chicken madras and naan takeaway. Got 7 small pieces of chicken in around a pint of sauce, no veg or anything. The naan was small and very basic. Certainly not worth the 12 quid this meal cost. I'm sure it's a nice experience to dine there as it's a lovely posh place, but the food is below par. Certainly not fine cuisine. Won't go there again as it feels rather pretentious with little attention to the quality of the food.

Disappointing. Unplanned midweek takeaway after a very long day. Food very lack lustre, not much in the way of flavour and popodoms stale. Not cheap and certainly not worth is.

Went for a birthday meal with family. Had the buffet deal, but not much food available as many dishes were empty. Had to ask to get them replenished. Food nice enough but didn't feel special. Waiter couldn't wait to clear our table when we left making me feel rushed. Doubt if I'll be back. Not as good as our last visit.

My husband and myself went in for a meal Saturday evening for our wedding anniversary. The food was fantastic, and service was good. We would defo return.

On our first day in Shropshire once we had settled into our accommodation we decided to go out to find somewhere to eat, we had Saffron Cottage on our list but originally when we pulled up outside we were a little concerned it was going...

Went for a family meal, slow service, food had hardy any spice, very bland, very expensive, was a 12.5% service charge, absolute rip off! They even charge for the dip bowls, avoid and find somewhere else.

VERY DISAPPOINTING ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE VEGETARIAN We went for Sunday lunch buffet at 1pm. No one else came to dine in the whole time we were there. The buffet was all meat. On the side there was a sauce with chickpeas in it, nothing else and a vegetable curry. Both of these were stone cold. When I pointed it out to them, they had forgotten to put any water in the bottom of the Bain Marie. My husband had to return his beer as it was bad. During the meal not one person came to ask if we wanted more drink or coffee or anything.

Didn't allow us to eat in, and the food we had to takeout was extremely tasteless.

Excellent ambience. Lovely staff. Food was outstanding. What more could you ask? The tandoori king prawn was amazing and onion bajji were simply the best. The mains were both excellent. Can't wait to return despite the drive from Welshpool.

Very friendly and relaxed atompshere went for the Sunday buffet and the choice was perfect very fresh dishes and excellent choice for under 15 pounds. Highly recommended plenty of space between each tables and a large carpark I rate this a 5 stars

expensive, service poor, had the butter chicken it was awful, to top it off read the recipt £36 service charge??? refused to pay it especially with the poor service and poor food and over priced drinks. never again will order a take away from tandori cottage at least they know how to cook a proper curry.
