Ryders home made bakery in Teignbridge

After reading the reviews of your Dawlish shop I expected a great experience in Bovey. Sadly not. Decent choice of sandwiches and buns, and some tray bakes, and lovely bread too. That’s good, it’s what they do, and do ok. But service with a smile, no sign, even when I paid. Almost scored a 2 but as I said, they have good products, so deserve a 3.

We only stopped for a coffee but saw the homemade pasty and had to try. We are glad we did it was delicious. There was a large variety of cakes to choose from, different flavour pasties, sausage rolls and they even do breakfast rolls. The drinks are freshly made for you so you may have a few minutes wait. The staff were very friendly . We sat outside in the sunshine. Everywhere was very clean inside and out. There are a few seats inside

Wandering about Dawlish and looking for lunch, we came across this little gem of a bakery. We decided to get a freshly made sandwich and go and sit in the park to eat. We came out with more than we went in for as there was so much choice and it all looked and was tasty.

We had a delicious pastry and a hot drink each, hubs had a cheeky portion of loaded fries. Staff so friendly n real chatty. Definitely go again. Thanks Ben and Courtney.

Stopped here a couple of times whilst staying in the Dawlish area, the first time we had a slice of pizza and sausage roll, the second time, we came for breakfast baps, coffee & hot chocolate before starting our journey to travel back home. Both times staff have been helpful & polite, as well as there being a good selection of food. This bakery is clearly very popular & reasonably pticed. Coffee was very good as was the hot chocolate and food. Would definitely come back!

Great selection of sandwiches, cakes and hot food. Friendly staff and efficient service. I had a roast veg sandwich and my partner loaded fries with steak and both were really good.

We were having a walk around on our holiday, between showers, and came across the Bakery. We purchased two cream slices and two hot chocolates. The serving staff were very amiable and chatty. The cakes were delicious and the chocolate hot. We sat on benches outside, where the area was very clean and tidy. A very pleasant interlude

Very friendly staff, even when rushed off their feet. I had the bacon and brie sandwich. None of this paper thin rubbish from supermarkets, this was thick slices of bread, bacon and brie (doorstop style) with a salad. Reasonable prices. Wish I'd bought a cake too after seeing the selection. Maybe next time.

Products good at Bovey Ryders but ladies some of you need to be more welcoming towards your customers. We shop there regularly and feel that it’s not a happy place, is it? Learn from other shops in the town, some great examples.

I bought several items from Ryders bakery at the Warren today. I returned to my car to find it wouldn't start and had to call the RAC. During a very long wait and having taken up a parking space outside bakery for hours, the staff were not only very understanding, but also brought out a coffee for me while I waited. Really kind! So grateful to these hard working and super nice staff.

Very disappointed visited today and wanted to order some of your festive food advertised on your board outside, only to be told you weren’t doing it at that time was just after 11.30! So Gays creamery took your trade, we would have been spending around £30 obviously you didn’t want the business? Or you need a change of staff as a women came out and took the board inside then and said not a word to us! Not a very festive experience, will go to Gays next time as at least they serve what they are advertising!

So I ordered a gut buster and a sausage and bacon baguette and sausage roll today 25/10/2023 about 13:30 I’m a local resident to Dawlish and was (I say was because not again will I use them ) a frequent customer but today they have completely ruined there reputation for me. They are usually spot on however once I placed my order I was asked to wait outside and when ready collect from the street side counter not usual procedure but I went with it! So here’s why they asked me to wait outside…. They obviously didn’t cook the bacon and sausage fresh as the usually do the bacon was so hard and dry I could have used it as a surf board and the sausage had no taste and I compare to chewing an old piece of leather boot both have the same taste and texture the only fresh item cooked was the eggs. Why Ryder’s why?? Obviously halfterm school holidays and you have increased your prices (new prices taped over original price) and you may have had a lunch rush at 12 o’clock and over cooked to keep up with demand then but to reheat the bacon and sausage and pass a freshly prepared baguette was simply shocking. I offered my dog the bacon and he turned his nose up at it and the seagull chocked to death in front of me after a piece got stuck in its throat. Truly disappointed in your staff using precooked and kept warm ingredients for my lunch treat.

Amazing food but ruined the experience with the racist staff, lady behind the counter stereotyping my dad of a different colour outside saying that he was going to rob her car , he was standing away from the rain having a cigarette under a tree drinking his coffee away with his family he wasn’t looking suspicious or anything out of the ordinary at all. She went round and told all the other staff as they stood inside judging him( I was standing inside the bakery as I could hear everything they was saying ) and the woman fully went outside and moved her car away from my dad because she genuinely thought that he was going to “rob” her car. And me as the daughter of the man being stereotyped this is just wrong and racial abuse should not be tolerated.especially it being 2023 racial comments should not be something people should see. Especially in a public place where people go in day in day out I do not recommend coming here unless you want to be judged.

We have been staying local for the past week and have been to this bakery a few times. Today however was a completely different experience, I was standing ordering inside with my daughter whilst I can clear as day hear the waitresses talk about my mixed race partner who was standing outside smoking under a tree as it was raining who she thought was going to rob her car 🙄 talk about racism. She then stopped working and went and moved her car whilst looking down her nose at him , what happened to not judging a book by its cover . All happened infront of our children who witnessed it all 😔 safe to say we won't be going there again

I am surprised that a well known bakery in the area would serve food of this quality. It all went in sea gulls as it was salty, overcooked and very expensive for what it is. Never again, very unhappy with the food. I am not a picky eater but I don't want to die of salt poisoning either.

Lovely bakery. Using cafe was more confusing!!! You pay inside, then go outside to side windows. Eating is outside. Bakery items fresh and delicious

Good to see the Thomas’s bakery shop in Bovey Tracey taken on recently by Ryders which now needs to update its TripAdviser profile. Many types of bread, smell great, and appear to have wide range of cooked/heated foods as well as hot drinks. Fair range of pastries and some cakes, although, disappointingly, fresh cream cakes such as eclairs (nice for a treat) are not now stocked. Nearest alternative is the ‘cream’ buns which were formerly known here as Devon Splits, a popular and well known name far and wide. I wonder why change! An attractive little shop which will do well despite a couple of shortcomings.

Absolutely worst gut buster I’ve ever tried. Bacon was rock solid nearly ripped my teeth out and the egg was so plastic and fried I wasn’t sure if they took it out their kids toy box

Having read the reviews about amazing gf bread and cakes we popped in and were bitterly disappointed to be told ‘we don’t do that here’. GF friends take note.

We were leaving Golden Sands and decided on Breakfast Baps to sort us out. We had a Bacon Bap, Bacon & Egg Bap and mine was my go to "Bacon, Briè and Cranberry toasti" It was probate best I've ever had. Don't think about it - Get in there. Thank you guys.

An amazing selection of fresh cakes and pastries. Good value for money. Item’s well presented and packaged. We had apple danishes and they were excellent.

Year on Year this has been a regular haunt and always provided great products, and a great service, alas this week it has all changed. Yesterday (Monday) whilst supplementary questions at the time of ordering (such as would you like sauce on your breakfast baguette) were asked on arrival back at the holiday accommodation multiple items were missing. - Having just completed a long walk, I returned this morning to explain this, and also place today’s order. Despite just one other small group in the shop and no queue - I was informed I would need to come back later at the bakery was too busy. My comment “ we aren’t doing too well given the partial order received yesterday ” was met with the request to stop ranting - which I clearly wasn’t as everything was at a conversational level. Bitterly disappointed given year on year loyalty that the service has gone down hill, and the interest in customer this morning was dreadful. I hope this is an isolated experienced rather than the new norm.

Large selection of food, my breakfast bap was lovely. Excellent service too, especially from the blonde lady with glasses.

I drop by most days for a coffee from Ryders. This is a good small bakery, and does a roaring trade from the tourists. There is always a good range of food. Never had an issue with them at all, and their food is good quality.

This place has a good reputation. We were going to lunch on tea and pasties sitting outside in the sun. Went in and was tempted by the board advertising 'Breakfast Rolls''. The thought of a hot bacon roll made my mouth water and I checked with the girl that they were still serving them - this was about 1 p.m. Yes was the answer so I ordered a bacon and sausage baguette and a bacon, sausage and egg bap. The egg and bap were nice as was the baguette - although it was more strictly a long soft roll. The bacon and sausages, we suspect, were left over from earlier that morning - or maybe even yesterday - and reheated in a microwave. The bacon was tough and leathery. The sausage was burnt and overcooked. I know, I should have complained rather than just empty the bacon and sausage into the paper bag and just eat the bap and egg. Poor husband ate about half the sausage and bacon before giving up and had chronic indigestion later. Beware when ordering and be prepared to complain if served what we were.

Absolutely amazing bakers , wished we had one where we live. We visit every morning for breakfast. Such an amazing selection and great staff.

Been there twice while on holiday and the cakes were nice aswell as some sausage rolls. Good bakery. Worth a visit.

We came here every morning on holiday for coffee and pastries. It was right opposite our holiday park and perfect for breakfast treats. There’s a good selection of non-dairy milks, the Lavazza coffee is gorgeous. Breakfast pastries were lovely and the price was reasonable. There’s also a deli selection which is handy for lunch. Some staff were friendly and chatty (some were the absolute opposite, but perhaps they were having a bad week). The queue always moved quickly and there are a couple of tables outside.

Awful!!! Ordered a baguette and they gave me a long soft roll! The french would be appalled calling that a baguette! Also the fillings were absolutely disgusting! This isn’t a real bakery. Don’t waste your money here

A great bakery and coffee shop, we discovered several around the area, but this one was right opposite to our park. Bread freshly baked helped to set you up for the day ahead

Wasnt here when we visited on a regular basis years ago. Very popular and a good selection of bread and rolls etc whcih can take or have made up as sandwiches etc. also did pies, pasties etc. also seating outside for dining. well positioned and priced

Had the best Cornish pasties of our holiday here. Also enjoyed the egg custard tart, the peanut butter brownie and flapjacks. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Really enjoyed the sausage roll from here, was absolutely delicious and the cakes and set up looks unreal.Unfortunately I found the girls on the counter extremely rude and they looked fed up.Need to have rules outside the shop instead of shouting it at customers when they get it wrong.

We visited today & we were not disappointed.The food & service were absolutely amazing,we ordered the foccia BLT, Sausage Bap, Sausage rolls,Steak n fries the food is so fresh & tasty We enjoyed it so much we took food home with us.And even our dog was given a treat by the staff Thank you ladies see you all again soon

the produce and staff were of a very high standard the whole family were very pleased with everything we bought it tasted superb and was of great price and the choice was varied and great quality the staff were very friendly and helpful we will be buying from them again when we go back down for our next visit.

Everything we tried was excellent and freshly cooked. The staff were so friendly and I would have no hesitation in recommending.

On a recent visit to Ryders Bakery i was served by a lady with a bad attitude,i intended to buy a selection of pies /pasties,there was a limited selection to choose from and the lady said maybe i had got them mixed up with greggs,after selecting some items i pulled out a £20 note to pay she snapped it's card only,when i got home the pies /pasties were of average quality and nothing to get excited about,and the onion bhajee pasty i had been looking forward to was full of chilli peppers,so hot i couldn't eat it.So in future i will go to greggs instead where there is a better selection of nicer pies/pasties,and the staff are not miserable and rude,even if it means i have to drive further.

My husband and I waited for around 10 minutes whilst 2 women and 4 children were served .After one woman and the children left we both walked into the shop,with masks on and were told one of us needed to leave .My husband protested that the 2 women and children with no masks were allowed in together. May I just add the staff were not wearing masks ! Also do yourself a favour! Dont waste your money on the bland cheese and onion pasties

Very friendly staff and excellent food we tried numerous bakery’s trying to find nice fresh rolls and cakes until we found this place absolutely fantastic the gut buster breakfast rolls were so good the custard tart was the best IV ever had and IV had a few I just read a previous review saying how rude they are I can tel you that’s obviously someone from London used to eating at the savoy and not a friendly run Devon bakery, you can’t please them all ! Give this place a visit you will be back for sure.

We popped in for a spot of breakfast and waited in the queue outside as only two people are allowed in the shop at once which is a good procedure due to the virus. When we got in we ordered a hot sausage roll and a bacon bap which is advertised well outside which was the reason we opted for this. We was informed there may be a short wait so to me this meant 10 mins or so and to go outside and wait to collect from the window so we did. With 3 people in front of us we didn’t expect it to be too long but after they all had to return their orders due to them being wrong with items missing or incorrect We ended up waiting for nearly 1/2 an hour! Which is to totally unacceptable for a bacon roll. However our sausage roll was now cold because of the wait so we asked if it could be warmed up or if we could have another one? It was snatched rudely from us and then a new one thrown across the window onto the side and the waitress stormed off. Terrible customer service and I highly recommend not coming here please don’t waste your time or money as the bacon roll was not worth the wait was warm and poor quality and you may get it slammed on the counter or thrown at you ?!

We have had sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes from here, no complaints at all. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Great range of good food.

If you are looking for a Star Wars themed breakfast roll then this is the bakery for you! They call it the chewbacca special (see picture below)As the previous reviewer has pointed out, the staff at Ryders demonstrated poor levels of hygiene and do not wear hair nets, thus several strands of thick black hair were found in my wife’s sausage and bacon roll. You may be aware that when a woman is hungry, she is far less understanding and forgiving. I was lambasted for recommending the bakery in the first place and it took several glasses of wine (and hours of apologising) before she was able to partially recover from the ordeal.Further to the above we were made to wait outside for over 20 mins whilst they made this vile treat, all the time our other warm pastries had gone cold. I found the staff a little rude and pushy especially regarding the COVID-19 rules. I’m thinking about having some hypnotherapy to block out this awful experience!

On holiday in Dawlish we we’re very upset to find substandard service and poor quality of food. Staying on a nearby campsite as a family we went for breakfast. Met with aggressive staff who were over zealous and rude in the requirement of Social Distancing we were shouted at for our order and then almost pushed outside to wait. None of the staff were wearing hair nets or masks, we were served our hot food and the told to wait our side for our bacon roles. These did not materialise until 30 minutes later. When we asked for our pastries to be kept warm we were again shouted at to wait outside. Getting back to the campsite we found half our order missing. Very disappointing. Will not be going back.

Great produce and value for money. We bought both items for breakfast and lunch here during our stay just up the road. Very good quality and reasonably priced. Only small area for improvement would be to try and speed up the transactions / delivery as we waited over half a hour on one lunch time (worth the wait I guess). Appreciate it’s only 2 customers in the shop at present but maybe a menu / list of offerings outside would stop the 2 or 3 minute browse people seem to require.

Order fulfilled efficiently and the food stuff delivered was excellent. Went well beyond what could be expected by adding a happy Birthday note as delivery was a gift. Communication throughout was excellent. Highly recommend both food and service. Well done to all at Ryder's.

Well where do I start the range of pies is mouth watering to say the least,however for me the sausage rolls and cheese and onion pasties are extremely yummy coupled with excellent service what more could you ask for, I will definitely be paying another visit

Regulars at the Dawlish Warren bakery. Large range of snacks, sandwiches and cakes to choose from. Staff friendly and prompt service. Not pricey. Very popular in the summer time. Parking a problem though. Shall return.

Amazing chocolate caramel brownies.Soft moist and delicious as ever so glad I bought the last 5 on display. Cheese and onion pasty also delicious best ever lovely slices of potato and great seasoning. Nice friendly girl serving as well . What more could you ask for . Brilliant

We called in for some pastries & pasties to take-away, the quality was great and we would use again.

On a day trip to Dawlish, we scoped out the places for !unch. Cafes very overpriced with flaccid looking fare. Decided to grab a pasty and sit by the river to watch the swans. Ryders have a little booth selling hot food. Minced beef pasty about 2 quid. Crisp, flaky pastry, really tasty filling, just yummy. Lovely friendly lady behind the counter. The cakes looked great, too!

We drive in from torquay especially for their Lardy cakes - yummy. Need to get there early though! Couple of tables outside for coffee too

What a great little bakery with an equal choice of savoury and sweet offerings. Having found it we made a point of a daily visit to buy our bread and pasties and more often than not a sticky bun. Great friendly service and reasonably priced.

Went in 2 mornings as it was next to our holiday site, all had breakfast rolls with sausage, bacon or sausage & bacon & egg with mugs of tea, lots of staff on and served quick and had food brought to our table out front.

Every morning we went there for breakfast bacon or sausage bap and a mug of tea it filled us up for the day.

The best of both in Devon.....staff are very nice too. The added value bit..... sitting watching the world go by whilst munching on the most yummiest of foods

Lovely cake and coffee at reasonable prices. Tables outside and friendly staff who are used to cyclists coming in. It's just off the cycle path in Dawlish Warren.

This local bakery in Dawlish is brilliant for making and providing their own gluten free bread and cakes. I was very surprised to find such a bakery here in the small but brilliant town of Dawlish. Well done to "Ryder's" for catering for coeliacs and for those who are intolerant of gluten.

Ryder’s food is consistently delicious & good value. Happily recommend to all. The vegetable pasties are particularly tasty, as are the pecan meringues.

Friendly staff, clean, area to sit out side. Good selection of savory and good selection of cakes , ice creams ,milkshakes and healthy smoothies to choose from. Had to wait a little while after ordering but it was extremely busy and popular

Looked good from the outside so we popped in for coffee, sandwiches and a sausage roll. Good choice of sandwich fillings served in generously cut bread. Sausage rolls available warm or cold were excellent and, although we didn’t try any, the cakes and brownies etc all looked very edible. The only issue was a lack of gluten free sandwiches, I guess gluten free is hard for a bakery but adding a gluten free loaf with the same fillings would be a real benefit. Would definitely return for more next time I am in Dawlish.

we have been here everytime we come back for the last few years, the cakes are resonable and so tasty with cream teas to take away aswell whats not to love will deffinatley be going back when we head that way again.

We come to Dawlish Warren about every other year and going to Ryder's to pick up coffee & cake for breakfast (what? don't judge me, we're on holiday!) has become a family ritual. Loads of choice, nice people and good savouries for lunchtime too!

I love visiting here, you can choose a cob and have it filled with the food you want,good value and plenty of filling.The bread pudding is outstanding and the seating area outside is pleasant.

You saved our girls weekend away whilst staying at welcome family park .we were away for let's rock festival and we had on two days very tasty breakfasts with you. The staff are ALL very friendly chatty and smiley even as busy as they were.thankyou all ladies everything was perfect . We will visit again . 6 very full happy ladies

Pasties, cakes and coffee, what's not to like. The staff are friendly and there is a small outdoor seating area. It's not grand, but for what it is the food is cheap, filling and tasty.

This place could be great, homemade cakes and pastries that look so good your belly rumbles with excitement at the thought of eating any one of their delicious treats. But we were so disappointed, although the pasties looked crisp and golden bursting at the seam with filling, they were dry and tasteless. And just to be sure, we also bought 2 of their bread pudding slices thinking you can’t go wrong with a slightly spiced bit of stodge, but I think the flavour fairy forgot to visit this bakery altogether. It’s no Greggs

This place sells lovely pastries sausage rolls etc and cakes. Staff very friendly. Clean and tidy establishment.

All cakes look delicious and so did the bed so it was difficult to decide what we wanted. Staff were friendly and patient. Prices were reasonable. Will definitely visit again

Went here looking for a cake for my son who is lactose intolerant I can go to any major bakery and pick from 4 or 5 different options ie Belgian buns or doughnuts but I asked in this bakery and got a cold hard no we don’t have anything !

On the Strand in Dawlish Warren , such a friendly bakery , with indoor and outdoor seating.Lovely friendly staff who make everyone welcome. Such a wide range of yummy cakes, buns and savouries. The coffee is fresh and good too. Very welcoming to Cyclists, with room around outside to safely park your bike.

Ryder's sell a super selection of breads, pies and cakes. You can also sit outside in the Strand, opposit the park, watching the world go by with a hot or cold drink. Whilst on a visit to Dawlish a good place to stop off for a quick refreshment.

Great bakery offering full range of bread and cakes. The bakery also sells freshly handmade hot and cold sandwiches that are popular. Sadly there was only one member of staff working serving customers and cooking etc. and we were very disappointed that it closed down the day before Christmas Eve until sometime in the New Year. This has meant having to drive several miles into town, or to the out of town Sainsbury's supermarket to get fresh bread. Employ some more staff and remain open at busy holiday periods and you'll get a 5*

Stop for drinks here many times lovely place out door seating facing the park there breakfast roll is my favourite but the cakes and pasties are lovely small shop don't walk by its worth calling in really

I love visiting this bakery, yes its busy but i can see why. The pasties are amazing and as for the cakes there is so much choice. Plenty of staff serving so you dont wait long in the queue

Stopped in early one morning after walking the dog to get some rolls. Ended up buying some other stuff as well. The food was all good but the staff were not overly friendly. Only slightly above being aloof and felt a little like I as a paying customer was hugely inconvenient.

Bought lunch from here today. Tuna salad was healthy, fresh and lots of it. My friend had a roll made which was chock full of the fillings requested. Good quality, fresh and lovely staff!! It's a must !!

The best Eccles cakes ever. Really is a lovely bakery, their gut buster breakfast baps are amazing and reasonsably priced.
