Ryde Tandoori in Isle of Wight

We have eaten here a few times, and the food is great (if you like Indian Cuisine). However, we prefer to takeaway from here as the restaurant is long and narrow. The staff aren't as friendly as they could be when serving you, and the toilets are not kept clean. For eating in, we prefer Tamarind in Newport, but this is, of course, just personal choice. What I will say, though, is if you are getting a takeaway, Ryde Tandoori also has another takeaway at the top of town. I would recommend avoiding this one and getting your food from Union Street. We have used their other takeaway three times, and each time, I have argued that they haven't taken off the collection discount, and each time I've got home and discovered, dishes are missing.... So my opinion is food is great (from their Union Street restaurant and takeaway) it's OK to sit in, but we prefer not to and do t use their top of town takeaway....

I been ordering from here for about two months a vindloo always it’s amazing greet taste really nice food highly recommended

Unfortunately they've lost me as a customer of 13 year's.. I ordered a takeaway for my daughter tonight however it didn't show up when ringing the restaurant I had the phone put down on me twice.. they have taken money out of my bank account but no food has been delivered and it's been over 2 hours they have told me on the phone tonight they have taken my order knowing that there is no delivery driver working and they are trying to ring some sort of firm taxi delivery or a random person to drop my food off until they can find a random person they can't do anything except still my money which is criminal behaviour... Not only that my daughter is sat here with her friend who both expected a takeaway over 2 hours ago I feel awful safe not eaten and this isn't right however I've paid for a meal that's never been delivered.. and the attitude of the staff slamming phones down being rude and even the delivery driver putts your food on the floor and doesn't give it to you by hand. Because I'm a female they keep talking to me like s*** on the phone

Ordered a takeaway last night and preordered via Uber. The food was on time, piping hot and absolutely delicious 10/10. Highly recommend 👌🏽

I ordered a take away but it's taking ages to arrive when I rang up they told me it would take at least another 30 minutes so that's almost 2 hours just to get two × rice and one curry this is mental... as a qualified chef I know myself it shouldn't take almost 2 hours to produce this food from an establishment I'm sure it will show up with half of the order missing like they normally do I don't know why I keep coming back to this place also the guy tried to charge me £25 so I quoted that from their own menu because only comes to £21 but the guy was trying to charge me 25 but I had a menu in front of me so I asked him to read the menu so he can confirm that the price is right..

AVOID!!! 1 star only so I could leave a review!! I've ordered from here once before and thought I'd give it another try tonight... I won't be ordering from here again. I did it ONLINE...after a 45min wait, I was updated. my food was heading my way (I'm a few roads away from this restaurant) However after waiting nearly an hour after seeing it was heading my way. I contacted the shop..they told me they my food was all ready, they were waiting on a delivery driver. It'll be about 10-15 minutes. Delivery driver came and banged my door! Didn't even hand the food to me.. just dropped it on the door step!!.. very rudely spoken aswell!!

Ordered takeaway. Was 20 minutes late. Food was absolutely cold.

We always come here for family celebrations and the banquet nights are great value! Very good service and didnt feel rushed. Kids enjoyed the ice cream at the end too!

Had the Sunday Banquet. Everything was delicious. Perfectly spiced and not a sign of puddles of ghee. Great value for £19.95 with staters, main, side and Naan or rice plus tea/coffee or ice cream. Couple next to us were locals and they go every week. Highly recommended

Fantastic Indian restaurant. We cone back every year when on holiday on the island and it only seems to get better year on year. This year I had the onion bhajis for starter and a combination curry which they do for main which was chicken bhuna and lamb dansak which both were fab! Genuinely the best Indian restaurant on the island from my experience and wouldn't go anywhere else. Would highly recommend.

We had a fantastic family take away tonight from the Ryde tandoori. All the usual family favourites really enjoyed by everyone. Tender meat, flavoursome sauces, prompt and friendly delivery to our holiday rental.

The atmosphere and food was amazing. They had amazing service and always had a smile which brighten the mood. On top of that the food was amazing.

Very traditional Indian meal. Food was amazing, hot and plenty of it. Can highly recommend the Razala and Korai. Great atmosphere with a proper Indian restaurant feel to it.

Very rude staff. Waiters speak Broken English. Not at all professional. Do not tip as it all goes to the owners. Staff dnt get anything. Greedy owners. Also heard staff get less than minimum wages.

Fancied a takeaway, I've eaten in they're restaurant which was pretty good but never had takeaway, jeez it was good, loads of food, all tasty and hot, had veggie thali, meat thali and starter mixed kabab, will definitely be doing this again!

Average Indian Curry nothing special the main issue we had we were stuck upstairs totally forgotten about. The room we were in was extremely dirty grubby and very of putting , if that’s what customers see I don’t think I want to se there kitchen.

Worst food and service... Ordered Paneer ...and served chicken....

Wow could give it 5 star comedy value. Order 2 set meal popadoms and sag a loo got Lisa to re read the order all read out then when I ring to say the sag a loo is missing she says no mate it’s not written down to which i respond it is I asked you to read the order back while on loud speaker and 4 people listening proclaiming I’m a liar then says I’ll have to agree to disagree I mean come on what they hell are they taught.

Very disappointed with the delivery. No refund offered. Food was cold. Don’t use Just Eat as they are letting you down.

Ordered a chicken madras take away and I have never ever tasted such a bland curry which even lacked salt! It looked like they had poured a jar of cheap supermarket curry sauce over some chicken pieces. A madras curry should never ever taste bland given all the spices that should be added. Very disappointing, I won’t be back.

I took takeaway last night overall it is worst staff along with lazy chef. We order 2 different types of prawns but they gave us same prawns curry in 2 different boxes. My suggestion to others be aware while you have a thought of takeaway here check before you leave. Very disappointed with there service I think hotel management should teach some basic skills of serving to staff.

Hands down the best Indian Cuisine. I’ve tasted many places and the flavours never fail to impress me. There are also many exotic mojitos, especially the Kiwi drink that is quite unique, tastes amazing.

Food was over an hour late and turned up cold. We rang up to see where our food they said it was on its way. We rang a second time and they put the phone down. So rude!

Well what can I say we ordered a takeaway through uber eats which was spot on for delivery. We ordered a lamb balti curry a chicken tikka marsala, bombay aloo, rice,poppadoms, chutney tray and 2 nans coming to over £53 with delivery. Dished up the food as there was 3 of us sharing so we had both currys ontop of the rice and bombay on the side well I love salt on my food but omg that's all you could taste I rung the restaurant and he was so sorry they had put salt in the tikka instead of sugar and said he would replace it but only the tikka even thou it ruined our dinner what was we supposed to eat the tikka with just our nanns which was the only thing edible he said no refund and to complain through uber eats it wasn't their fault the chef made our curry with ten ton of salt

Walk in, no reservation. Got a table, got poppadoms and drinks within 15 mins. 40 mins before order taken, over an hour after before food delivered. Naan bread cold, with the main some chicken bits really tough through over microwaving. Second drink order taken only when main delivered. Side dishes delivered as main was finished. Most of the restaurant complaining about service times, most customers going to the counter to get payment taken. A lot of walk in take aways, which we don't normally see as they have a separate outlet normally. The food here generally is very good, but the service can vary from good to hopeless, tonight was one of the poorest I have experienced. Some people threatening to leave, most being frustrated. Most of the evening just one person serving the restaurant. They spent a lot of time with takeaway customers. When we left most tables needed cleaning, incoming clients had to wait until this was done. Its a real shame as this is one of the best tasting Indian restaurants on the IW, but probably the worst service. Their takeaway outlet at the top of the town is no where near as good as the restaurant.

The food was great. Very tasty. Ryde Tandoori continues to maintain high standards after so many years. Bravo! I had the "thali" which comes with multiple different dishes. Good portion size! I would recommend they offer it with a plain naan though, there are already many meat dishes so the keema is unnecessary, would be a bit better with plain in my opinion.

Service was a little slow and not as welcoming as I’ve experienced before in other restaurants which was a shame. Food was really nice with really good portion sizes, lots to choose from on the menu and priced really well.

From outside ambience looked good. So we went inside. We were advised to go upstairs as ground floor was already booked for some upcoming guests. We went upstairs & to our surprise found it mediocre, like it was there not for usual customers but for customers like us who came from outstation. To make matter worse , they didn’t offer us water also. In hindsight probably they forgot. Food was also bad as very minimal salt & spicy in the curry. I agree may be it is fine for locals but as Indians you could have put a bit more spice in the curries. Chicken in biriyani was like rubber. Though chicken in others & lamb was ok. If you are looking for authentic Indian food with a bit spice , then please avoid.

This is a great restaurant for Indian food. The food was exquisite and full of flavour. The staff were very friendly and delivered great customer service. The food came out very quickly and was hot when we received it.

Visited with a friend recently. Was quiet due to it being a week day. Staff were friendly and helped me chose dishes from the menu! The flavours were great. Would recommend.

One of the tastiest takeaways we've had on the island! Very fast service.

The food was lovely, and the surroundings nicely decorated. My only issue was with the service - we were dining in the restaurant, and while the staff themselves were alright, the service was far too rushed from the moment we sat down. In hindsight, looking at other reviews, some others seem to have had the same (or a similar) issue. The best (and most concise) way I can put it is that it's the only time I've been out for a curry where I have been in and out the restaurant in an hour, and we felt very rushed while in there. Unfortunately, it was that rushed that it dampened the experience for me - while I'd like to try a takeaway at some point, I'm not keen to dine in again.

Not bad shout. King prawn butterfly was a little shy. Generous portions on the biriyani.

Take away..5 pieces of lamb and half litre of oil..really disappointed with lamb madras and taste was just any base curry and expensive and price misleading as on the window is cheaper than the price on their take away menu inside

I was blown away by the food and the service at Ryde Tandoori, they really exceeded my expectation. The dansak top tier I'll tell you that. Overall the vibe was spot on, Its no surprise the restaurant has been around since the 1960s. Definitely would eat here again!

5 pieces of lamb and half a litre of oil in a lamb madras..with regular base curry for £12.95 even on the window the price is still £11.95..not impressed and if taste can be any curry ..

Honestly blown away by the food and service at Ryde Tandoori. It's not easy finding an amazing place to eat in Ryde but Ryde Tandoori exceeded that expectation. Me and my team loved everything about it, and the music choice had us feeling a type of way. Its no surprise the restaurant has been around since the 1960s and is still going strong today. Top lads, definitely would recommend to anyone visiting Ryde.

The most flavourful food I've tried on the Isle of Wight, immaculate customer service. The food arrive hot and on time. Would recommend to anyone visiting Ryde to come and try the food.

A pretty disappointing night. The service was rude and rushed. The food was ok, but I've had better tasting Indian food elsewhere, nothing to praise. Management and staff need to rethink their business strategy and approach to customers. Very unwelcoming. Nothing like Tamarind in Newport which is excellent.

Food was okay. Never in my life had I been asked how hot do I want my Vindalooo 🤣 A word of advice, if you decide to order Vindaloo, ask for it to be hot. Otherwise, it's not spicy

I’m from the mainland and work on the Isle of Wight every time I come over I make a point of visiting Ryde tandoori not only is the food excellent the staff are attentive also . Got to mention food again not often you can say this about Indian restaurants but the food tasted amazing and clean on your palate 10 out of 10 All the way

Delivered the wrong order, then refused to refund.

Absolutely horrible, waited for an hour and a half even though we were told it be 45 mins. It turned up cold and swimming in oil. Not for the 1st time a disgusting meal and will never be going back again

Sadly although the food was good, the service by one of the waiters was appalling. Not only was he blunt and rude, when one member of the party was unhappy with an aspect of the food he argued about it, refusing to acknowledge. Many items were apparently out of stock, and we were told that we had to pay cash. (No mention of this previously) the internet connection wasn’t good, but miraculously when cash was not available the machine worked. We shall not be returning.

Had a hair in my meal...they argued that it was mine... My hair is chin length, this hair was well past shoulder length! Very rude, ended with "thank you very much" every time the waiter spoke. Had asked for a jug of tap water on arrival, didn't come. Ordered drinks and and asked again....was asked if we wanted bottled or tap after clearly asking for the 2nd time for tap water. After 1 of the group asked for a 2nd small bottle of cobra, response "we have run out of small bottles". Bought the wrong bottle of cider... opened. When queried they didn't have what was originally requested... Bill appeared. We were going to have coffees. Upon asking ..."coffee only available on banquet night's and this is Friday" They asked for cash as signal not working. When 1 of the group said they only had a card...the signal miraculoulsy worked! It worked another 4 times..... Waiter gave after eight mints, when he realised we were not happy he insisted on giving out extra after 8s..... weird I have given 2 stars as the food .....when it arrived was okay, the customer service is appalling. None of the group will be returning!!
