Lucky House Chinese Takeaway in Isle of Wight

Lovely beef chow mein and beef curry from here. Dont believe all the negative reviews. Ive had other dishes too and been very nice

We have been using Lucky House are our local Chinese takeaway for a year or so now and it has always been consistently great food, served in very generous portions and cooked and served quickly. We will continue to use Lucky House as our go to takeaway, and my son loves the fish tank!

Never had a bad meal service good been a customer for many years very tasty

Hi Jason here. Having spent some time working and travelling in Asia, Chinese food is something of a hobby of mine. I love the food here as well as the efficient and quick service. There are a range of classic Chinese dishes ranging from spicy Sichuan foods to classics like crispy duck. Being a fan of Chinese food and its preperation I was allowed to look into the kitchen, which was clean and the food well stored and prepared. I really enjoyed my experience here and having fond memories of Hong Kong rekindled. I noticed some reviews below do not understand the nature of some Chinese foods, so prepare for a genuine experience. I would recommend it to all my friends. Thanks Lucky House👍❤️

Have ordered from Lucky House numerous times and have never encountered any issues. The food always arrives hot, good portion sizes, tasty and not too greasy. The menu is large and offers lots of choice. I don't understand all the negative reviews.

Have always had a good takeaway when ordering from Lucky House. It arrives hot and on time, tasty and large portions. We've used them many times and never had any issues.

Was here to fulfill my first shift at the job as a cashier, all was going well with taking orders etc until I noticed someone I’ve had a bad past with worked there, they went to speak with my boss at the time(Ling) and next minute Boom I’m sacked? Not to mention all there food is left out 1-3 hours before open time drenched in old used oil, all chicken there is processed and even turning grey it’s vile how they treat people to the point they fire you if someone else there don’t like you, they don’t pay employees over card and like to also apparently under pay with cash, not to mention the state in general has digged up rat holes around the place

I’d give lucky house a 0 but I can’t. All rude and no respect for anyone who speaks to them. Also employed someone I know and told him on his first shift to leave all because one of the staff members told the boss too. All in all a waste of time eating and working there. None of them are kind. None of them care. They don’t have no hygiene either. Sort it out. As someone who previously worked there, I’ve seen it all. This is a new low. Don’t buy from here.

Have never eatten here. Will not eat here, I watched them take delivery of defrosted meats, the boxes were dripping wet and all broken apart from the water.

Worst Chinese takeaway I’ve ever had….. ever. Ordered beef chow mein. Took lid off and couldn’t bring myself to even take a mouthful. Can only be described as 3 pieces of thick pale slimy rubber and boiled noodles. Didn’t even look like there was any seasoning. Just tub of bland slop. Couldn’t tell you how it tasted as threw straight in bin. How food standards agency think this food is edible or acceptable , I will never know. Wouldn’t even give one star if had choice

Absolutely revolting Ordered BBQ spare ribs came swimming in an oily mess ribs were fatty didn’t eat. Sweet and Sour battered balls again chicken revolting threw the lot out Kung po chicken the sauce again awful Egg fried rice was ok which was good as only thing we ate

One of the worst meals I have ever tasted. The beef in black bean sauce was bland boiled and rubbery. It was very greasy and the sweet and sour sauce didn't have any flavour. Very disappointed.

Shocking , greasy,blande, soggy crispy shredded beef, salt and peper chili chicken wings were neon orange, they were soggy, no spice at all, tasted like something bought from Iceland! Superb bleach flavoured rice….got to be the worst chinese we have ever had….recommend if order to Chuck it straight in the bin, my wife’s cooking tastes better and she can’t cook!! 😂

I'm sorry but the food was absolutely awful ! A complete waste of time and money. The chicken was boiled, the sweet and sour sauce was thin and brown with no flavour to it. The roast chicken was similar to birds eye crispy chicken just in a weird flavourless sauce. I don't usually give bad reviews, but this was next level.

Ordered a while ago for delivery. Food smelt funny and was really watery. I didn’t eat it in the end but my partner ended up with food poisoning.

Not very lucky I found this place tonight!!! Food was a massive let down ...feared the worst when our order was ready within 4 minutes of ordering , totally tasteless sweet and sour sauce smelt like vinager vomit and whole meal was cold ....do not bother going here worst take a way ever .....

Don't bother I was charged 7.30 for ribs with honey what a joke the ribs were plain but was given 2 Lichfield honey pots. I returned back ribs to this takeaway got a refund but was told that is always how we do Honey Ribs as every where is different cooking. I have always had ribs glazed with honey or bbq sauce. So poor excuse. Pork balls greasy Chicken salt and chilli was too salty. Definitely will not be using again. I cook better Chinese than that.

Lovely! I was very nervous when I read the reviews tonight but our food was beautiful - our delivery driver was so happy and it really did make all the difference. I would suggest buying an additional sauce if purchasing the chow mien but portion sizes were good and the price is well worth it! Will Be using again :)

Normally we Iove food from here but tonight we did not. The curry sauce was small instead of a nice size pot, the Hong-Kong style battered prawns were smaller portion way less then they normally give and the prawn wontons were such a disappointment they had had hardly any prawn in them some didn't even have prawns it looked like they had smashed it up into a paist and put a tiny bit in and just pushed it down to spread it out they were flat and very greasy oily the Chow mein was dry and greasy only few bits of been sprout only nice things were the egg fried rice and the chips tonight. None of us could eat it all like normal as it made us feel ill so it went in the bin. Big waist Of money and time

My friend was happy with his order but I've just eaten a dodgy tasting prawn so worried now :( Was a bit on the cold side when delivered only a couple of roads away!

Most disgusting Chinese I've tasted! The sweet and sour balls tasted like the sauce had expired and the egg fried rice had massive egg pieces with a pungent smell. I definitely would not recomment nor would I return.

Way better than previous times tonight. Very impressed with the new guy on the phone. Way more polite and friendlier. The tai style chicken was the best I've had in a long time tender and juicy. Also the deep fried chilli chicken my other half had he said was the best he'd tried also. We will be coming back again. Thanks

Ordered the Nyonya chicken curry, was very disappointed to find boiled chicken and an over cooked potato in brown water. No flavour whatsoever was like a container of sick! Called the Chinese to see if they would change it and the rude woman on the phone refused and said it’s a watery curry. Totally ruined our evening and a total waste of money!

The food itself seems unfortunately bland. It also seemed rather tough to chew. I was looking forward to my food and was unfortunately left feeling disappointed. Perhaps I just got unlucky with what I chose to order, but regardless I most likely won’t be ordering from here again and won’t be recommending anyone else do either.

Food was solid for the price. Delivery drivers wen't above and beyond getting us our food to a bizarre location and while it wasn't the best food I've had it was average across all the ones I've eaten in London, Birmingham, Norwich and Edinburgh, would be a 3 star reveiw but bumped up a notch for the friendly and accommodating delivery guy.

Terrible quality food. Someone in a Chinese take away that uses hot sauce instead of the proper ingredients is not a chef. He is actually a disgrace to be working there. Avoid anything that states it is not as it is only sauce and not the correct way.

We have just had food delivered and it is the worst Chinese food I have ever had. Vegetable fried rice tastes of cooking oil and is made with tinned vegetables. Stir fried mushrooms raw and cold. Everything is bland and no flavour. Doesn’t taste anything like Chinese food. Waste of £20.30. Never again disgustingly inedible. Even our dog wouldn’t eat it and he licks his own bum.

I've not eaten from here in a few years, it was nice back then but unfortunately not anymore. Honey ribs came with two little pots of crystallised honey... Not helpful. Crispy fried chilli beef was more chewey than crispy and just tasted of vinegar. Egg fried rice was boiled rice and scrambled egg mixed together and not fried, Beef chow mein tasted of fish...my two year old wouldn't even touch it and she loves chow mein. Chicken balls were OK but very greasy. The one thing we did like were the salt and pepper chips. Won't be ordering from here again. Maybe they are having an off night but we are not willing to find out if that is the case the next time we fancy Chinese. Disappointed.

Sorry nice curry sauce but chicken slightly underdone chips were nice but sweet and sour sauce to much vinegar not to my taste still can taste it people nice tho

We had never tried this Chinese before and fell upon it looking for someone who delivers to Wootton Bridge, we will definitely be using it again, good food, fair prices and good delivery (for a very small charge). We had the Red & Hot Roast Pork which we have never had before and it was amazing, really tender pork with a nice chilli kick, Chicken Chow Mein which was lovely and tender, I’m not sure how they cook it as it does lack colour but I’m thinking maybe poached as it was very succulent, Duck in Plum Sauce which was tender and full of flavour and egg fried rice. A great meal.

Waste of money in my eyes ,I ordered 8PM and they sed 1hour weight but we had to phone at 9:25pm to see were the food was and they sed its gonna b another 20mins ,wen food came I wasnt impressed due to the chicken balls wasnt cooked properly, veg spring rolls havent got hardly any filling in , chicken chow main was very greasy, the only thing which was edible and was ok I guess was the prawn crackers , I'm now 23pound down the drain waste of bloody money .

Excellent food and very reasonably priced. Stopped taking card payments for a while which was a bummer and forced me to use other takeaway facilities but yay! card payments have since been reintroduced so I'm back using my favourite Chinese takeout 😃 Think you have to spend £10 minimum to make a card payment but I think that's a reasonable request. Never been disappointed with any food from here. Recommended.

we drove from Yarmouth to Ryde which was a 40 minute trip there and 40 minutes back We ordered Chicken curry & Rice twice and 2 spring rolls and when we got home to our holiday apartment food was still hot And it was delicious

The food is tasty, not too spicy the way I and my partner like it. Its not open all the time and I tend to find its not open when I'm craving it, hey ho they can't be open just for me. However they have recently become a cash only establishment. Staff are always helpful and understanding. They're also willing to change whatever you ask for.

I have rang the establishment to give them this honest polite feedback sadly it was not met with great enthusiasm ..... If you read the past reviews you will read that time n time again you will read a thread that’s to obvious not to be a true reflection ie Not spicy Sauce thin Poor quality Etc And after trying to persevere with and support a local business that’s what I find with the food myself ‘Lacklustre’ ‘bland’ and ‘watery no substance’ The food that arrives quickly and ‘hot’ and by friendly delivery drivers, needs to match the description in the menu and it really does not at all. So this leaves me still searching the island for a ‘proper spicy authentic Chinese ‘ sadly don’t think I’ll find it too soon. The nice receptionist promises a new menu is arriving soon!,maybe the chef patron would read this and other well meaning feedback and adapt his style and serve food that he can be proud of...! This is the first poor review I have written in a long time Please if you also have s poor experience ring them, do them you and ‘others’ a favour. Please do not be a ‘back stabber’ and maybe they will ‘up their game’ give em a chance. We can always wish right?

So ordered a take away from here as we had a hospital visit . First of all , the woman on the phone proceeded to then serve another customer who had gone in to order. That to me was very rude. She then took my order and told me a 45 minute wait. Fair enough it was a Friday evening. The food came and it was hot , but the taste was not. I only had a few mouthfuls. I had chicken chow mien . The chicken had no taste , the bean sprouts were awful. Safe to say I will not order from here again. The only good bit was the delivery guy.

If you want excellent tasty food, which are good size portions at reasonable prices, then this is the place to go

I have always been a loyal lucky house customer but the past few month have been awful.... more fool me Taking orders the women never listens and gives you wrong orders. Doesn't say sorry.. just blames you. Food.. I could never fault it but my god it's gone down hill. Dry,over cooked.. Not not. Not enjoyed.. They have lost a customer... trust me go elsewhere

I have ordered duck with cashew nuts. At first it looked appetising and felt great, however all sliced duck was with fatty skin and it was not edible is just looked like cooked from left overs !!! I didn't order fatty duck skin with cashew nuts dish:( The sauce and vegetables- colour - very tasty.

Sent wrong food, what did come was manky,there was still an item missing on the 2nd delivery! #binned 👎

I would say this is the best place for Chinese in Ryde. Only one problem, if you want the 10% off for collection you have to pay by cash which I don’t agree with!

Have ordered many times with this takeaway and been very satisfied most part. Ordered a new dish inspired by a picture on the menu... Actual dish looked nothing like it and wasn't very pleasant item "82", looked quite anemic so called and politely asked for a refund on said dish... Politeness wasn't returned and was quite bluntly told a driver would be dropping money round and I wouldn't be served again!!!!! So even when a regular customer who hasnt complained before and did so politely you are treated exceptionally rudely. Very happy not to use them again and advise others not to based on their cheek and rudeness alone cause should there ever be an occasion that a polite complaint be made you could receive the same treatment!!!!!!!!!!! Don't give your money to a foul mannered company!!!!!

Quick home delivery, 40 mins from time of order to delivery. Great curry and pancake rolls . I have had many takeaways from the lucky House and never been disappointed with the food.

We decided to have a Chinese takeaway after a number of friends and relatives descended on us, the order was taken and food delivered in approximately 30 minutes, we sat around a table and sampled all the different dishes, very good value, all enjoyed.

Chicken curry was lovely nice velveted chicken little spice in sauce rest of the meal was ok better than some others in Ryde Hong Kong especially worth a go

Fancied a treat before my night shift so ordered for my hubby myself and son, delivery driver looks like he is homeless! And the food WELL I think disgusting is a understatement, egg fried rice is just tasteless boiled rice with egg chucked in, not fried or seasoned really bland, chicken rice is tasteless and chicken was slimy and under cooked! My son had chicken balls that were undercooked and he couldn't eat them and he eats anything! Wasn't fit for a dog! After phoning to complain was offerd full refund on return of food, which we did as couldn't eat it! Kept ringing to get refund to be told they are busy to ring back later, after 4 calls later finally got offerd half refund!!! WHAT???? Apparently we sent half food back? Well erm no sorry we couldn't eat the disgusting mess so sent it all back! After while it was clear I was fighting a losing battle so took half refund! I'm now sat eating a bowl of cereal before my night shift as no time to have anything cooked now! So be warned!!!!!!!!!!

Used this place several time now with no problems. Ring up, order and collect on time. Very good menu with great choice and price is okay. Pleasant staff and always polite. Well recommend this place.

Was sent a Malaysia curry instead of a normal curry sauce was thinner than water and chicken was slimy questionable if it was even chicken we ordered chilli and garlic pork and was sent crispy fried beef when we rang to let them know we was met with an extremely rude and obnoxious man who argued that it was the chilli PORK and not crispy fried beef even thoe we told him it was exactly the same as the crispy fried beef they sent as we had them both in front of us.... He was rude and totally out of order after he continued to argue we ended up putting the phone down and picked through what we could with everyone having a belly ache for the trouble this place should be shut down

Most disrespectful homophobic service ive ever seen! Wouldnt no there backside from a toothbrush!, without a doubt will not eat here again! Can see staff sliding on there unclean kitchen floor environmental health need to keep an eye on this place!, food tasted frozen and microwaved and basicly bland! They do not have chefs they have cooks! As a professional chef myself it saddens me to see people not take catering and hospitality seriously!

Popped in and ordered one evening; only a couple of dishes but came out to me quite quickly and was hot and properly cooked. Tasty noodles and mushroom dish; loads to choose from on the menu so will certainly go back!

Great choice from the menu, we really enjoyed the freshness of the food and on the whole it was really good, chicken chow mein was a bit tasteless but other than that it was hot on arrival and not greasy at all...would use again on our next visit

Got a takeaway for 2. Some of it was great such as the spring rolls but there was waaay to much vinegar in the sweet and sour sauce. Reasonably priced but average food.

Last week week we ordered a curry and sesame toast with prawn bamboo shoots , The curry came as a sweet and sour noodle dish and the sesame toast was a thick rubbery doorstep and. The prawn bamboo shoots was very watery,we have use this service for three years - we will not be using them any more ,

Had a family meal of 8 and was just the job. Ordered for pick up and was ready in 15 minutes. Enjoyed by all.

had takeaway from here on new years eve, crispy beef, egg fried rice, curry sauce, crispy pork balls & chips... with free prawn crackers. as always delicious food. the only reason im giving a 4* rather than 5* is because there is not much on the vegetarian side of the menu & my daughter isnt a fan of bean curd (tofu). but apart from that great food :)

On the search for a new Chinese takeaway and these hit the spot ! Nice food. Value for money , nice and hot, had a delivery and it arrived still in packets ( none spills or leakages ) plenty of chicken on the skewers nice sauce ! Nice sized portion will b having more food from here plus happy lady on phone !

Ordered chicken chowmein , egg fried rice garlic salted chips , this was the a complete waste of money the chowmein was dry cooked noodles and precooked chicken strips from a bag with no sauce the egg fried rice wasn't too bad but the chips under cooked and tasteless best thing was the free prawn crackers . Won't be buying from Lucky House again .

Great tasting, authentic and friendly.Always a quick delivery, and piping hot.Often you get freebies like crackers and Chinese style samosas.Won't go anywhere else for a Chinese.
