Popped in just after 5 pm Nov 8th to suss it out with my son-in-law prior to bringing the family later. Just had a cake and a beer. Warmly, sincerely and holistically welcoming. Extremely clean. Beautifully and brightly decorated. We can't wait to go back and have a proper family meal!

Gift yourself (and loved ones) a delightful and scrumptious experience-today, tonight, tomorrow and every so often…Get a table @ Kusina RestoBar!💋👌 You can never go wrong with Chef Chris’ ube (purple yum) cake to finish off the meal💜. I rarely ever leave reviews but after visiting we simply couldn’t not share how wonderful our meal was. We visited for the first time last night after having the restaurant recommended to us by friends, this place is a complete gem. The staff were lovely and the restaurant has such a homely feel. The owners were so warm and welcoming and food is simply delicious. The food is freshly made and I can honestly say by far some of the tastiest I’ve ever eaten. I will be recommending to all our friends and family. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

My first visit to Kusina, together with a friend, and received a very friendly greeting by the staff. Once seated and drinks ordered we were asked about allergies etc and advised about the nature of Phillipino food on offer. Having made our choices we were very pleased with our meals. Wine is not a big thing on the drinks menu but there was a Shiraz available which we really enjoyed. Thanks to all at Kusina for a most enjoyable experience. See you again soon.

I recommend it wholeheartedly. Very friendly restaurant. We managed to get in despite not having a reservation. Very friendly service. We have never tried this cuisine, but the lady who served us explained everything to us in detail. Delicious appetizers, squid very soft, juicy and crispy, lumpiang cebuano (something like spring rolls) with meat and vegetables, seasoned perfectly. Main course full of flavor, hot and a very large portion. Fresh ingredients, perfectly matched. You can feel the good hand of the chef. I recommend it to anyone who wants to eat well, relax in a nice family atmosphere. I will definitely go back there at the next opportunity.

This spot is probably ideal as an authentic Philippine choice, but not flexible enough for some other nationalities to enjoy. Nice staff but I wouldn’t go again, the half chicken I had was dry and tasteless, the rice bland and the bread burnt. No wine on the limited menu which caters to a limited client base in Newport, Isle of Wight. The chef/owner said it was her intention to cater to this group only.

This restaurant is aimed specifically at Philippino people, the chef, maybe owner, said it was established to service an audience from the Philippines exclusively. Which is absolutely fine, but that is not clear from the union jacks in the window. If you expecting food or drinks that are compatible with European preferences this is not for you. Although you can watch the England football match on a wide screen TV! The staff are nice and friendly, but the menu is inflexible and may not include anything you want to eat. As a minor point the bread we got with one dish was burnt.

I didn't know what to expect when I arrived but now love Filipino food and this restaurant. Cris is very welcoming and boy does she know how to cook. We had salt'n'pepper squid and garlic & mushroom prawns to start. The latter being probably the best I've ever tasted. Then sizzling chicken and chicken & pork adobo, both perfectly cooked and delicious. Wine and beer are good and cheap too. The final bill was half what I paid for an equivalent meal at a very highly rated restaurant in Cowes last week. This is home cooked food prepared with love and served with warmth and professionalism. A real find.

I have been here multiple times but this is my first time reviewing. I normally get the chicken adobo but I decided to try something new and the beef pares was recommended. It was exactly what I needed. A bit fatty, super meaty, had peppercorns, bayleaf, star anise, ginger and a slightly sweet sauce. Absolutely would order again. I go for the food but stay for the conversation and the homey vibe. What a great find this restaurant proved to be. We visited on Saturday 4th May after searching for something a little different and reading the reviews. We have never tried cuisine from Philippines and we were very pleasantly surprised just how good this was. Menu choices were great and the flavours outstanding. Were were informed that we were experiencing traditional, authentic, home cooked Phillipino food and what a treat it was. Main courses were very enjoyable and we had homemade uke cake & cacao cake to follow which were something else. Really very, very tasty. On top of this the place had a nice feel to it and service was friendly, informative and welcoming. What more can I say except, it's a pity they are not based in Exeter.

Wow! Steps back in amazement! What an incredible little place this was. A fairly innocuous looking frontage disguised an absolute gem. First of all a great friendly welcome, and an excellent explanation of the menu - much needed as I’ve never had Philippine 🇵🇭 food before. I explained I couldn’t eat spicy food but was reassured that it was depth of taste rather than spice, how right they were. We four had a range of dishes with a fair bit of tasting of each others, all declared fabulous! My Pork Adobo was amazing, the pork was unctuous, silky smooth rich sauce with a flavour unlike anything I’ve eaten & utterly wonderful. NO msg and everything cooked fresh to order. Very small, not posh, not pretentious but if you want exceptional food with incredible flavours this is the place to go. Chris the chef patron is a wonderful lady with a great smile & quite clearly a palate that many high end chefs could only dream of! Highly recommend!!!

First time trying Filipino cuisine, and it will not be the last. The meal I had was so delicious, I plan on eventually working my way through the entire menu. I grew up on a small family pig farm, so I know what fresh pork tastes like, and the pork belly was about as fresh as it gets. And the ube cake is absolutely unreal. We were on the Isle of Wight, and the three of us had the opportunity to select two restaurants each for our stay. I like to try different foods, and the chance to try a new cuisine was too good to miss, and I am glad we did. (Because this was my first experience of Filipino food, I cannot confirm the claims of the restauranteur or whether this is good or bad Filipino food.) We ate here on a Tuesday evening and were the only patrons, which is a shame because the food and experience were excellent. The waiter (husband of the owner/chef) welcomed us. He sat us down and explained that a couple of dishes were unavailable as they could not obtain the "proper" ingredients and were unwilling to use substitutes that would detract from the dish. He explained that they served food typical of food stalls in the Philipines and that it was flavourful rather than spicy (hot). We asked for recommendations and ordered the dishes: PANCIT GUISADO - a noodle dish PORK MENUDO, PORK HUMBA (ADOBO) - pork stew-type dishes He also mentioned a pork stew dish to which pork blood was added (Filipino Black Pudding), left for a bit, and then stirred in; would we like a free sample? When served, the "sample" was an entire portion. Apart from the noodles, all the dishes were served with a portion of rice. And all the dishes were delicious, though my wife did not go near the blood dish (my son and I devoured it). Predominant flavours are cane vinegar which is tempered with sugar. Don't think sweet and sour, it's not like that, and all the dishes had their own flavours and subtleties. After our meal, we discussed Filipino food and some of the ingredients used. We tasted the shrimp paste used (ZAMBOANGA REGULAR SAUTEED SHRIMP PASTE) and will be locating some so we can try to cook Filipino food at home. I highly recommend this restaurant. The food and prices are great, and the staff are on top of their game. It's a shame I'd need a ferry to get there, which makes it non-regular for me.

A disappointing experience, we asked if we could have one of the soups on the mains as a starter. After the waiter checked with the kitchen he said that was fine. Starters came out with no soup and an item we had not ordered. (the table next to us posed the same question as well so possibly a menu revision is in order) Mains arrived after a considerable wait shortly followed by a large soup that we had requested for a starter. This was politely declined and sent back to the kitchen. Another soup then arrived minutes later, again declined. The manager then came over to offer apologies and ask us if there was anything he could get us, I asked for a drink as we had been there over an hour and not offered a second drink. This drink never arrived before finishing our meals so we paid and left. Overall a disappointing experience with mediocre food and lackluster service.

For a change we chose this restaurant as it offered traditional Filipino food, which we had tried before and enjoyed. Admittedly previously it was home cooked by colleagues at work but we had an idea of what to expect. The good points, friendly, informative, staff and owner, well cooked food at a reasonable price and a very pleasant atmosphere. As a personal preference Andy would have liked a little more spice in his starter of pork spring rolls and once pointed out, was given the option of more spice in his main. Sue’s food was perfect for her. Puddings, or sweets if you’re posh, were very tasty. There were a couple of silly downsides, the two “must have” puddings were sold out, obviously too “must have” and the red wine and bottled ale were far too cold. Over all the experience was good enough to make us want to return at some stage.

Cosy, friendly, efficient knowledgeable staff and great atmosphere. Definitely reserve at weekends at it was packed on both Saturday evening and Sunday lunchtime. Highly recommend the Mussels, Mango/Tomato Salad and the Sizzling Beef. The Sunday Breakfast items of Congee and the Chocolate Porridge were delightful.

Celebrated a birthday here this eve. We were all really pleased with the service, food and prices. Will definitely be returning. Great to have something authentic and a genuine taste of some thing different in Newport. Also rare to find such professional and welcoming service on the Isle. Menu is limited but great. We all had different dishes and everyone really enjoyed the food. Highly recommended.

Child friendly, licensed, affordable hearty food, big breakfasts and classic Filipino dishes. Great atmosphere with some live music nights and karaoke. This is a bit like going to a lunchtime restaurant on the continent with large families all gathered to have an informal home-from-home mealtime together.

I ordered a takeaway. This Restaurant is now called “The Curry Leaf” I ordered a Lamb Balti and my wife a Chicken Tikka Masala. We also ordered Naan bread. The naan was flat and more like a Chapati and a little dry. The Balti was so sower it was not really edible until I added a tub of yoghurt. Worst of all when my wife reheated her dish the next day she fount TWO LONG HAIRS in it. Stay away!

Not even sure what to say…Service and wait time was slow. The food was scarce and didn’t even look appetising. After reluctantly eating it, as I’d been at the hospital visiting my father all day and had nothing else, I then spent the following day getting cosy with his toilet when I really should have been visiting him!! With other takeaways, there’s enough to have leftovers the next day, luckily there wasn’t on this occasion or I’d have to buy bigger trousers for the food bin
