After hearing about Rumsey's we wanted to treat our gran children to a nice drink and a cake. On entry we could see a table was about to become free so didn't mind the wait as expected a few minutes to allow for turn around of table however we waited and waited during which time I was pointing out the chocolate bunnies to my youngest grand son. At no point did anyone say I will be with you in a minute, sorry for the delay and there was half a dozen staff behind the counter area. Finally a young lady approached and did no other than walk straight by all four of us, no emotion, no smile and no customer interaction. to our disgust we walked out and for a first visit thinking how rude and ignorant was my impression of Rumsey's. You may have celebrity status but one thing I learnt early in life and that is, you never know who may come into your life and just because you don't know them, They could be anyone. Civility cost nothing.

Tried to get a table but the place was full. Went away and came back for two takeaway coffees. The assistant didn't speak good English and was possibly new, but pleasant enough had trouble taking our order and a mistake was made when handed the coffees which was quickly rectified. Took the two drinks back to the car and when we went to drink them the cups were half full. We ordered a medium and a small coffee. My small one contained about 4 mouthfuls and my sisters only half measured too. We are pensioners and didn't have the energy to walk the 10 minutes back to the cafe so that night I sent an email to them complaining. Have always been a satisfied customer at this establishment. However after 10 days have still not had the courtesy of a reply which is very disappointing.

This could easily be a 4 as the coffee and cake / biscuit selection is good . Unfortunately on more than one recent visit the service has been lacking : slow to show us to a table , take orders and occasionally a surly attitude - not always but too often . mall home made choices with the coffee are a nice gesture

I'm always faintly amused by places and people who think they are far and away more elevated beyond mediocrity than they really are. Towns can suffer from this self-aggrandizement because places are nothing if not an accumulation of people. It is the citizens of a place, be it a city or hamlet, that give it its personality, its real character more than, say, the architecture. Thame is a small Oxfordshire town just up the M40 from where Mr Reviewer lives in South Buckinghamshire. The land here is relatively flat, inhabiting the nondescript real estate between those two local Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty; the Cotswolds and the Chiltern Hills. Possibly by way of compensating for this geographical mundanity many of the townsfolk, particularly the shop owners and managers, seem to come across as puffed-up and self important. This establishment's website modestly compares this branch of Rumsey's with the chocolaterie in the movie Chocolat. However, like any film set, this is but a veneer, make-believe. The reality in this case is a nice enough cafe selling hugely overpriced fayre and confectionery. The waiting staff were of the typical uninterested "Saturday girl" variety who were incapable of telling me why the menu states that they refrain from selling beverage brands such as Pepsi, or why there didn't appear to be any sugar-free soft drink on the menu? Imagine a cafe not selling zero-sugar cold drinks in this day and age! Are we to presume the reason they don't sell ubiquitous brands like Coke or Pepsi is because they are snobs? They think that a cola is below them? Never mind their blurb about wanting to offer local products, they simply could not be bothered to cater for diabetics or anyone trying to offset a hugely sweet and calorific dessert with a sugar-free soda. Their lack of imagination or prejudice against what they would regard as vulgar common beverages means that they have missed the obvious product which would fill this gap in their line-up: “Green Cola”, an alternative zero sugar fizzy drink which took me all of ten seconds to find on the internet. With their ludicrously high mark-up Rumsey's could buy it retail from Sainsbury's or Holland & Barrett and still make a profit. One final thought: your lemon and ginger cheesecake was tasty. At the risk of sounding ungrateful this was ruined by the small rough bitter sample of dark chocolate that you gave us. When me and Mrs Reviewer got back to our car we had to take a long swig of delicious Pepsi Max to remove the taste.

Decided to travel via Thame to specifically visit this cafe. We did wait a while for a table however the waiter kept us fully informed and we weren't in a rush. We were only ever going to have elevenses cake and drink! Pros The Mocha!!! I'm a bit of a mocha connoisseur and I can say that it is the best in have ever drank. Anywhere. The kids enjoyed their milkshakes and hubby enjoyed his hot apple special. Plenty of choice of cakes. Small dish of complementary chocs Watching the young lady making Chocs whilst we waited. Cons The family weren't keen on the vanilla ice cream that came with their cake choices. A tad pricey. Tip to management I know it is difficult in a small establishment, but perhaps try and have more small tables that can be put together or separated. One customer was sat on her own on a table for 4. Look at selling some more 'pocket money' friendly chocolates. Possibly also offer cakes without cream/ice cream etc for a slightly cheaper price. Tip to customer Allow time to wait if busy (looks like it may be!) There is a takeaway available Overall we enjoyed our visit. Would we visit again? It is rather pricey for a family visit so more of a friends or mother/daughter outing. The takeaway drinks is a definite must next time we are in the area

As usual the quality of the coffee and accompanying cake/biscuit was good . we were seated within sight if where customers are supposed to wait to be shown to a table and staff were not managing that well - they talked to each other and customers could look at an empty table but not go to it because they were not shown there . Attitudes during the ordering process were a little brusque as well . although it was Thame market day there was spare capacity so that wasn't the reason behind this. Cleaning and attention to covid protection were reasonably good .

And waited I counted 5 staff and basically everybody just ignored us ! We waited patiently while we saw 2 members of staff cleaning tables , we assumed once cleaned someone would come and show us to a table ! But unfortunately not and after 10 minutes , with tables standing empty , we basically walked out the door ! As no one even so much as looked at us I presume they didn’t even realise we had gone !

We visited rumseys in Thame after hearing lost of positive reviews mainly on their chocolates and cakes and decided to go there for lunch. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the chicken and bacon sandwich and my partner ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich along with a black Americano and the mocha. The sandwiches were okay however the chicken was a little bit dry and we personally weren’t fans of the coleslaw which accompanied it, although this is more of a personal preference. The coleslaw is similar to a coronation chicken with currents and a slight oriental taste. My partner enjoyed the salmon sandwich. We then ordered a chocolate fudge torte and the pavalova which were both very nice indeed. The pistachio ice cream which I had was also lovely. Overall it was an enjoyable experience but for the price I feel the sandwiches could have been slightly better.

It is always a treat to go to Rumsey’s for a coffee (that’s a decent, well made coffee) and a slice of one of their selection of delicious cakes. Hubby and I particularly like the chocolate torte with coffee - it is lush. Also not to be missed is the warm chocolate brownie which you can have with a few different ‘sides’. IMO the honeycomb ice cream is the best. Although it’s usually busy, with chocolate making going on in a corner of the cafe, we have always found somewhere to sit so don’t be deceived if it looks busy at the front as the cafe goes back a long way. The savoury dishes are also very tasty but mostly we go for coffee and cake. In fact, a trip to Thame on a Sunday always means popping into Rumsey’s:)

Visited here on Saturday afternoon for a meeting with work colleagues. The food itself was very good ,slightly expensive . I asked for a diet coke to go with my meal as I am diabetic and was told they didn't do it or any fizzy drinks as this was their policy . I don't drink tea or coffee or hot chocolate so this left me disappointed and shocked . I asked to speak with the manager and was told that they do apple juice ,fresh orange which have natural sugars in ,as anyone knows who is diabetic natural sugars are the worst drinks for raising sugar levels which I informed the manager about . Eventually I had to settle for tap water which a young lad bought to the table in a small glass which when tasted was warm which again had to inform the manager who took it away and came back with a large glass of iced water . My food took thirty minutes to come to the table and it was only a egg mayonnaise sandwich.I understand that they have vegetarian options and gluten free options so what are you doing for the diabetics ....

My girlfriend wanted to go here after a weekend away. We parked up, went in and were ignored. No welcome on the way in and this pretty much set the standard. I really wish we had turned around and walked back out again as you can tell a lot about a place that does not say hello its customers. We found a place to sit and had to go hunting for a menu. She opted to go for the waffle and I, the chicken sandwich. We sat and waited and nobody came to take our order so my girlfriend went to order at the till. The waffle came after about 20 minutes. I thought any minute now my sandwich will be here. After a further 10 minutes I asked and was told the kitchen is a little backed up and will be with me soon. I saw that the table next to us was also having the same issue with getting their order as well. At the 50 minute mark enough was enough and I went to ask for a refund. The waitress did refund the money and gave a pretty poor attempt at an apology. I get the feeling they have to do these refunds a lot as this is the sloppiest service I have ever experienced. It's not surprising to say that on the way out we were ignored once again. Avoid unless you like being treated with absolute contempt.

I've visited Rumseys several times before as I used to live in Thame and it's a nice place to meet for coffee and cake, especially on a Sunday when you want to get out of the cold. My only criticism would be the price of it. A slice of cake will set you back a fiver and personally I don't think it tastes as homemade as it should. I most recently ate 'The' chocolate fudge cake which although very nice served with ice cream, was rather heavy and dry. My friend had the coffee and walnut cake and left half of it because it was dense and dry - not like sponge should be.I also ate a bacon sandwich for lunch which again cost five pounds and wasn't anything to write home about. It didn't even get served with a small side salad or some posh kettle chips as I'd expect from similar cafes and the bread wasn't even thick cut. Nice atmosphere and I'd definitely go again but there are other independents in Thame that also offer something similar.

I had Googled a few tea rooms to visit and so very pleased we found Rumsey's. I had called a few days before to book a table but we're told they didn't take reservations on a Saturday but if we called approx 1/2hr before arrival they would try their best. So I did and they were very accommodating and when we arrived they had reserved three tables for us. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the food (sandwiches) were fresh and very nice and the orders came out promptly without any mistakes (something we've often experienced as a group). We took a chance never having heard of this café. We were all delighted as the food was very good cottage pie, one lady had an egg sandwich, she said it was perfect. We had pavlova for pudding again one lady had a chocolate ice cream concoction she was in heaven.perfect place in every way. We are going back no doubt. Must say the service was excellent

Delightful milkshakes served with a chocolate circle topped with a dipped strawberry. Accompanied with a crisp biscuit and an additional chocolate button. Not cheap at nearly £5 but worth every penny. Personally found the chocolate button , which appeared to be mint flavoured, a chocolate too far and it really didn't go with my strawberry drink. The chocolate mat on top of the drink was a little difficult to eat as there was nowhere to place it down except on the table and I didn't think that was acceptable. Would I visit again if I was in the area - yes.

We stumbled across Rumsey's in Thame when we moved to the area in December and, with no phone signal or wifi at home, were drawn in by the free wifi on offer! I am so glad we were, because on that day we had the best bacon sandwiches I've had outside my own home. Since that day we visit at any and every opportunity (we also visit the Wendover shop) and have never had a bad experience. The staff are polite and friendly. The ice creams are delicious (I can definitely recommend the hazelnut and praline flavour) and the cakes are amazing (we often have to share a carrot cake and a coffee and walnut as we can't choose between them!). The chocolates are pricey but all handmade and a lovely treat. The chocolate honeycomb is completely addictive. Thank you Rumsey's!

Busy and great little cafe for good quality coffee, chocolates and food. Fairly noisy inside on a busy day but great to have a few outside seats if you want to have a peaceful coffee!

We went here one Saturday afternoon for tea and cake. The service was efficient and friendly and the range of cakes & chocolates fantastic. Our cakes were delicious and even came with ice cream! They also did a selection of other food. The place itself had a great atmosphere. It was clean and nicely kept. We can't wait to go back.

I love this place! I've moved away from the Thame area but when I come back to visit I make a bee-line straight for Rumsey's. Their milkshakes are absolutely fantastic - probably the best milkshakes i've ever had, and they come with amazing chocolate garnishes (I had a strawberry milkshake that had a white and dark chocolate lattice topped with a white chocolate covered strawberry) and then came with two little chocolates on the side. The surroundings are beautiful and you can see people making the chocolate through a big glass window which is fascinating. Go! and order the milkshakes!

Having visited this place a few times now, I can honestly say that the few snacks they offer have always been excellent.Their soup of the day is a must and as they produce their own chocolate on site, you really must sample some if you are a chocoholic like myself. You can actually watch the staff making the chocolates through a window.Their snacks are fairly limited due to, I suspect a lack of large enough facilities, but nevertheless is all delicious and the staff are very welcoming as well.

My goodness the coffee we were served was incredibly weak. When questioned the waiter admitted the machine was temperamental but no offer was made to replace it or add an extra shot??

I had a great lunch with my friends in Rumseys in Thame. Nice atmosphere, delicious vegetable sandwiches and home made coleslaw. I had also tasty leek and potato soup and was absolutely stuffed! But hey, who could resist their delicious chocolate deserts ;)

It always has a nice feel in Rumseys. Staff are friendly and helpful. It's easy to sit and chat as not too noisy. Some things on the menu are a bit pricey, but it's worth it for the atmosphere.

Rumsey's is a traditional tea room, it is a bit squashed, does a lovely cake and offers some nice lunch. What I found so impressive was their range of gluten-free options, at least 3 kinds of cake, bread so you could have a lovely sandwich and soup options. Highly recommend!

I love this quaint old cafe. The hot chocolate is lovely (and so it should be given they're chocolate specialists!) Served with a chocolate curl and a small piece of their chocolate so you get a east of what 'real' chocolate isI had a small black cherry slice which was moist and full of flavourService isn't particularly quick but it's a very relaxing spot Also someone treated me to a box of their chocolates and they were amazing!

Lovely place and friendly staff but it's not baby friendly which really lets it down. There are no changing facilities and the tables are so tightly packed together it's difficult to sit at a table with a buggy.

Rumsey's does have a great reputation locally but only tried it for the first time recently. The drinks we had were beautifully presented but expensive. We did not try the food, maybe next time.

Having visited and dined at The Black Horse on numerous occasions I can only surmise that the AI review is for another establishment!!! On our most recent visit we enjoyed several dishes from the menu, all excellent, a special mention must go to the oak smoked pork ribeye, truly mouthwatering. Our service from Jess was exemplary, attentive but not intrusive. She should give masterclasses. All in all a splendid lunchtime experience.

We can not fault the food, the food was delicious. The only thing that let our visit down was the service. We had our starters cleared and wasn’t offered another drink even though we had empty glasses. Mains came (still empty glasses) and even though we addressed that partner didn’t like onions we were assured that we would be fine with the steak only to find out it had onions in the sauce, partner asked if peppercorn sauce was available, chef said it would be 5 which we said no problem, partner waited to eat steak, got to 15 minutes later so we chased up the sauce only to find out the waitress thought we said don’t worry about it. In that time we had to hunt for vinegar as wasn’t asked if we needed any sauces and then went to the bar to get more drinks and ask for ketchup as also wasn’t offered. There was only 3 tables but plenty of staff on floor so no need for poor service. Must point out the manager did come and apologise.

I am a kind of burger fan, my other half celebrates the national fish and chips day here 😊, but I would say here the Scottish Cod and the Berrick Burger are the non-plus ultra of pub food nationwide ✅ All ingredients supplied by local farms, bakeries. Hospitality, kindness, five stars, A+ class. Pets friendly, playground for kids, beer garden, spacious carpark, friendly locals. Strongly recommended place☝

We booked Crazy Bear Stadhampton as a treat for our wedding anniversary and were looking forward to our 2 night stay and dinner in the Thai restaurant on our anniversary day in early November. We were a bit concerned that we didn’t get a response to an email (sent prior to booking) and couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone when we tried to call prior to our arrival. This lead us to check online reviews which were mostly negative particularly for the restaurants. We had a feeling of trepidation. However, everything was excellent. We had booked a Boujee room (these I understand are just down the road from the main hotel) but were upgraded free of charge to a Decadent room. The room was fab, very spacious and had a copper bath at the bottom of the bed. We had a wet room with lovely fluffy towels and robes. The grounds and hotel were lovely, very funky and fun - would be nice to go back at a busier time in the summer. Staff were all lovely and took care of us. Our Thai dinner was really nice with good sized portions. We had a starter each, a main and a shared side dish. Just a few observations to be aware of: Drinks and food are pretty expensive with added service charges. There was only a coffee machine in the room, no tea making options. (I popped round to the garage and grabbed a couple of tea’s on the first morning) Our room (room 10) had another room above. If the occupants of that room are a bit inconsiderate and up and down a lot, it can be irritating and noisy. But over-all we had a wonderful stay and a good experience.
