I have brought fish and chips from Ruddys at longlevens for 30+ years and they have always been Fantastic. For me 6 stars out of 5. But I went in August and got fish and chips for me and the wife. I had recently moved further away but still went there. When we got home we found the cod was slightly yellow and tasteless and the chips were greasy and soft. I won’t be going back but I write this review in the hope they find out where it is all going wrong and put it right. Maybe this was a one off.

Good shop but the prices on the website say 2.00 for a small chips 3.5 for a large prices in shop is 3.30 for a regular and 4.00 for large I bikes 5 miles for this with the last of my money and had to leave because the prices were incorrect

Gluten free has no batter. Not good. Such a shame but chips are tasty. Very quick and friendly. Please put batter on the fish

I am not a massive fan of fish and chips, but this place does them exactly how I like them - thick and crispy [I cannot abide soggy chips]. The portion was generous, a small fish + regular chips would fill any adult with a reasonable appetite. There's not really much else to say about this - the basic nature of fish and chips is pretty much why they're not my meal of choice.

Fish & chips - standard order - very long wait, even though shop not over busy Chips overcooked, more batter than fish and was chewy Ordering system confusing, given a ticket with a number - not all staff using the numbering system, some were calling out orders which caused confusion between customer orders Wont be visiting again

Takeaway only Love the fish and chip shop. Always fresh and cooked to order. Not the cheapest fish and chips but good value for money

This is the best fish and chips around. Such good value and really tasty too. We will definitely be ordering again!

We have been using this place for a while thinking it would be a nice treat as we were unable to go out for meals as a treat, on the three visits we asked if the chips were freshly cooked , the reply was always yes , i dont think so ,on a next visit this we mentioned same reply ,same outcome chips in the bin again .Now using the other outlet even if we have to travel further its worth it

I’ve used this chip shop for ages and tonight the food was inedible. I’ve put it all straight in the bin the batter on the fish was so thin it was a joke and I think the fat needs changing as it tasted awful. I rang and complained and was told my the manager that if I fetched I he’d cook me some more. I said no thank you not on the taste of the fat. I’m totally disgusted by he’s sheer lack consideration for having ruined our meal. Needless say I won’t be ever going back.

Impressed with the shop, decor & cleanliness, pleasant staff, fish perfect nice crunch to the batter & amazing chips, felt like they could even be healthy as no fat dripping off don’t tell my slimming group thank you !!!

I visited yesterday tea time for fish and chips. The cod fish was excellent but we were all very disappointed with the chips. They were hard, dry and just like eating cardboard. Until new potatoes start being used we will not be buying chips again.

I've lived north, east, south and now west in the UK and eaten fish n chips wherever I've laid my hat, or bottle of vinegar! 2 plaices stand out. The first is a wee stall on the prom in Whitley Bay where even the air is salted and chips in a polystyrene tray are the hottest, crispiest. cosiest antidote to the chill of the North Sea blow. The second is Ruddy's in Longlevens in Gloucester. Last night's large, battered cod was a golden fillet of epic proportions, a castle guarded by a wall of hot, fat, crunchy chips challenging me to breach the battlements and reach the fluffy, flakey fortress of fish. I triumphed! As did Ruddy's. A battle won...the war goes on....see you next Friday.

The cleanest. most attractive,and excellent Fish and Chips with best service ever. Hucclecote Rd has another Ruddy's the Fish & Chips just as good but I count Longlevens higher since the makeover in the best of taste!

Ruddys always stays in my mind after consistently being served what I believe to be the best tasting chips ever. Crispy and just beautiful. Whatever you pair it with is fresh too and ll fish is freshly cooked and tasty. They have various deals going through the day and this helps in an otherwise pricey establishment, but you get what you pay for. Staff always dressed Immaculately and present well to customers. More chefs than server's if you will. Lovely. Been coming to both shops since being in the womb. Will continue to the grave. Well done.

While looking for a decent chippy on my way out of town, and this one popped up with high praise on Google Maps, so I decided to give it a go. I was seriously impressed! Staff were friendly, and I was served quickly. The chicken was cooked really nicely, and the chips were nice and fluffy in the middle, but crisp on the outside. Not too greasy, but not too dry either. Definitely the best fish and chips I've had in a long while.

I went to Ruddy's for an occasional treat of fish and chips. Out of all the chippies I have been in Gloucester, both Ruddy's is probably the best in the city. It's worth paying a little more than some of the other chippies because the cod and chips is so good. It can get a bit busy at the weekend because they are so popular. Worth going for an occasional treat.

Recientemente me mudé a la zona y recordé que había una tienda de chips aquí desde mi infancia hace muchas décadas. Pedimos una comida para llevar grande para 5 adultos y 5 niños y todos nos encantó. Mucho estaba recién preparado y las patatas fritas eran muy buenas. Se convertirá en un habitual otra vez (¡Ya volví una vez para mi esposa y para mí!)

These fish and chips will pass through your system in approximately 10 minutes and really greasy , I would advise people to eat these fish and chips on the toilet. Ruddy's do not know how to cook proper crispy fish and chips.

Sólo tenía bacalao y patatas fritas. Fue terrible. El pescado no estaba muy fresco, pero estaba bien. Las papas fritas eran horribles, estaban demasiado cocidas, eran de baja calidad con muchos trozos negros y el aceite que están usando es obviamente viejo y deja un sabor desagradable. He estado yendo por años pero no volveré.

Personal desinteresado que vende alimentos por debajo de la media que claramente ha sido preparado para una sesión de fritura anterior. Trocitos de pescado seco, papas fritas y mal gusto por un precio que los hizo claramente sin valor para el dinero y no vale la pena el esfuerzo para salir a la lluvia en el día nacional de pescado y chip.

Visité un viernes por la noche como un regalo. Llegué a casa y las patatas estaban tan aplastadas que cayeron en un bulto de un recipiente de plástico. El pescado estaba seco. Las papas fritas parecían haber sido cocinadas diez veces y no una papa de gran calidad. Muy caro! ! Solía ser un gran chippy.

Absolutely horrendous this shop claims to be open until 1030pm we went at 950pm only to be told they were closed by a very rude young man surely opening hours are surpposed to mean something!!! Why advertise something when cleatly they dont support it. This is not the first time this has happened will certainly wont be going back,shocking rude and very bad service I suggest you change your website to incorporate these flexible hours that your staff like to enforce. As i am completely shocked how you can state on your website that your hours are certain times. Yet you are obviously paying your staff for hours they clearly don't work !!

Very small portions for very high prices. Wierd queuing system? Can’t quite work it out but either way lots of money for not a lot of fish and chips. Better value elsewhere

Just had 3 portions of what are close to being the most awful chips any of us have ever had. It appeared they are ones left over from last night and dipped back in the fat to warm up. Considering all of the prices have recently increased, I would stay well clear of Ruddy's and go to any other chip shop. We have had to throw out ours, don't think the animals would even want them!

The best fish and chips shop in Gloucester, both Ruddys in Hucclecote and Longleven. Reasonably priced and always friendly staff.

Our usual chip shop is closed Wednesdays and heard great reports on Ruddy's so thought we'd give them a try and visited the Hucclecote Road premises. The staff were not welcoming and appeared miserable as if they'd rather be somewhere else doing something different. The chips were terrible, hard, dry and inedible. The dryness was not due to the size of chip as even the large fat one's needed lubrication to swallow them. We couldn't eat them so they were thrown away. It may well be the time of day which was early evening......perhaps these were left over from the afternoon but we will not be returning. The chip were also, we felt, overpriced!

If you want freshly cooked fish and chips this is the place to go as they are always very helpful and food is excellent

Called in for food late afternoon, a nice bag of chip. Considering most places are shut , was most welcoming.

Until today I had never realised how pathetic a cardboard box is for containing oil as I have never been served fish and chips in such a greasy state that it flowed out of the box but tonight Ruddy’s at Longlevens brought it home to me that a box is quite useless at containing oil and Ruddy’s are not all that they are cracked up to be at serving good fish and chips. Having arrived home with said meal it transpired that not only was the boxes leaking but the assistant had split the bag putting the boxes in I now have to get the car valeted to remove the oil from the carpet And the wife has a whole load more cleaning where it dripped through the house.

Ruddy's sets the standard for your local chippie.The food is fresh and fried whilst you wait,the fish is fantastic as well as their speciality which is meat,spices enveloped in potato slices and fried in a batter yum! Service is fast and with a smile and the prices are quite good.

The chips are crisp and taste great, the fish is good quality also, if you are looking for a local chip shop you cant go wrong here.

Moved to Longlevens in December from Linden. Was gutted to leave the Seymour Fryer behind as we always thought it was the business as far as Gloucester chippy’s go.

A chippy.... is a thing of beauty to an Englishman. A place to visit after the pub for a traditional meal that won't break the bank.

Excellent fish and chips served by pleasant staff working at time extreme pressure when they are busy as this is a popular take away

Having promised visitors from Australia the best fish and chips in Gloucester we didn't realise our usual fish bar closed on Wednesdays so proceeded to Ruddy's at Hucclecote in Gloucester.

Nice reasonably priced fish and chips. Shop was refurbished a few years back and is clean and fresh.

I explained that I can not eat Wheat/Gluten/Dairy or Soya. I was immediately told no problem. The chips are gluten free. Is anything else you would like. I ordered a sausage & chips for my Son, as well as a curry sauce & was told straight away they both contained gluten. When the food arrived WOW, the best chips I have ever had. They were really big, crispy & fluffy. I very good portion & prices were not expensive. The chip shop itself was very clean, the staff were chefs jackets & was just clean & crisp. A fantastic chip shop experience with well versed staff.
