Royal Standard in Liverpool

Just awful !! Really disappointed, been here loads of times, but can honestly say never ever again. Came for a Sunday roast! Worse thing is we invited family to join us !!! Shocking!!! the roast dinners were uneditable ! Really awful as in dry and tasteless. The menu states pink roast beef - don’t be fooled it’s awful, dry, chewy, brown and overcooked! To be honest it didn’t even taste of beef ! The salt on the table and the gravy pot made it bearable so thanks for that!!! Service was terrible too!!! Had to asked for the table to be cleared as we sat for over half n hour with half finished plates and the place was empty !!! The biggest insult was the male member of staff with mid length hair (again not want you want to see hanging down when serving you and his very bored and rude attitude to match) that came over to tell us we hadn’t ordered a kids meal so we could have the deal!! Really the fact we had booked a high chair and ordered the drink and main meal but we didn’t actually ask for the desert at the time of ordering and paying at the till! Good places don’t ask this ! We had a stand off at the table over a child’s ice cream but he was adamant we had to pay for it ! We are gutted at this as we spent over £600 here on Christmas Day but WE most definitely won’t be returning and WE WILL most definitely will tell people to avoid !!! Please anyone reading this just AVOID AVOID AVOID !

Absolutely fabulous food, service is quick and food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. Special mention to Ben, Owen, Laura, Janine and Lisa, as we stayed for drinks too. This is such a wonderfully friendly place to eat and drink. Can't recommend this place highly enough. Thank you to all the team!!

With this being our pub of choice over the last few years , we were very happy to be spending Christmas Day having dinner at the Royal Standard We arrived early so had a few drinks with friends in the bar area. Christmas is a great time of year to catch up with friends and family, new and old. The Royal Standard has an all round great feel and ambience to the place . This is magnified at Christmas with the addition of the fantastic décor and general warmth of all the staff and customers. Once our table was ready, we were taken to our seating area by a wonderful member of staff called Ben . Ben has worked at this establishment for some time now but is clearly at the pinnacle of customer centricity with regard to hosting and customer service. The table itself was delightfully decorated and you could already tell that Kath and her team at the venue had been planning this event with the upmost attention to detail. The starters arrived at the table and words cannot describe just how mouthwatering-ly good this was. Needless to say , the plate was empty in super quick time. Being a traditionalist I was always going to look forward to the main course. The meats were expertly cooked and served with a delightful mix of carrots, parsnips and sweede, mash, roasties, greens, stuffing and a gravy that had not only a wonderful taste but a texture that helps to cover the plate of delicious food. The plates were well stacked , the meat was very, very tender and the vegetables were perfect, gravy moreish. Even though I was absolutely stuffed, the allure of their Christmas pudding was too hard to resist... SO DREAMY. A big thanks to Ben and Kath for making the day so memorable . All the staff at this venue actually feel like friends these days . The level of service is beyond what I would call excellent. A massive thank you to you all. “Customers who love you will market for you more powerfully than you can possibly market yourself.” See you all again soon .

Just been here for a steak and a pint bit expensive but really nice all the same

Called in on passing. Never been before but will do again. Bit noisy because of no carpets but was still a pleasant experience. Food was lovely and hot. I had hunters chicken and hubby had chicken and ham pie. Both were delicious. Very pleasant staff

We use the Standard on probably a weekly basis and are always pleased with both the food and service. We decided to try their Christmas Day menu and booked this in advance. The whole experience was excellent - the food was really good quality, well cooked and presented. The staff were really friendly and helpful and a table service for drinks was a really good idea as the bar was very busy. We had a really relaxed and enjoyable time and will definitely be booking this for next year as soon as available. Took all the usual hassle out of Christmas Day together with no washing up.

After moving into the area almost two years ago, we often go into The Standard for food and drinks. This has been the second Christmas we have gone as a family for Christmas dinner. The staff there are second to none. We are always made to feel welcome and are very well looked after. The food is beautiful and the atmosphere makes you return again and again. Special thank you to Ben for organising our Christmas dinner with such excellent precision! We absolutely loved our day, Ben. Thanks to Amy for taking care of us & making sure we had everything we needed, and thanks to Katheryn for running the best pub there is in West Derby. We’ll see you all really soon!

Great little pub food is of good quality highly recommend.

Went here today for festive lunch, the food was lovely with an absolutely fabulous cheesecake, staff were lovely and friendly. Drinks a tad expensive but all round was a lo ely visit.

I always come the Royal Standard for Match days and enjoy my experience every time I’m there. The food is outstanding and the staff are lovely.

Visited here on Wednesday for lunch with 3 friends. Enjoyed the seniors menu, great choice and price. Staff although very busy were very polite and helpful. Blonde haired lady, nothing was too much of an ask. We will be back next month and are looking forward to it.

Great family pub, nice decor, excellent food, pleasant staff.

This used to be a nice treat for lunch time but it’s gone downhill massively lately. It’s now full of underaged kids watching loud videos on their phones and other noisy drunks. My brunch was missing sausages, and when it was corrected, the sausages were hardly cooked. I won’t be back any time soon.

First time visit for Sunday Lunch, very disappointed. Menu stated beef served as “pink” whereas when it arrived it was tough and grisly. Personally, I believe that “roast potatoes” are a big part of the Sunday Roast however it was hard to decipher the roast potatoes and the vegetables served, the roast potatoes were that small!! One small potato cut into cubes. Meanwhile, the apple crumble was nice. Wish I would have taken a picture before writing a review!

Watched Wolves vs Liverpool here, it was 'bouncing', very lively and the atmosphere was tremendous. The drinks were cold and went down with ease, the staff were very welcoming inside the very busy establishment. Will definitely go back and try the food again but maybe when it is a bit quieter. Noticed the was a fenced off beer garden attached to the rear, also a car park for about 20 cars to the side.

We didnt have a table booked but the staff made an effort and got us a table at a bust time. Lovely food and came quick

Foods like rubber,chicken, told staff not helpful and said that's how it comes didn't evensay have the pudding on us won't be going there again

Excellent place for a birthday celebration

Went here with family to celebrate my daughters birthday. We booked the upstairs room free of charge which easily seated 12 of us. Lovely friendly service from Amy at the bar and food was delicious especially the curry. We will definitely be going back again.

Had a lovely meal with friends here on Tuesday 18/7/23. Very friendly staff Lisa and Ben served us at the bar. Our meals were served by the new deputy manager Steven, he was very friendly. Always good service and value for money. Thank you

We have recently visited Royal Standard, we loved it, and the service and quality you could not fault. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Our visit was a very pleasing, relaxing, one. The staff were so friendly , and even when we finished our food and moved to a padded seating area we still received a brilliant service. It is not surprising that the upstairs area is popular for holding special get togethers. Definitely recommend for good food and good atmosphere.

Absolutely amazing food, service was incredibly especially from Ben and Ann, they couldn’t do enough for us, are polite and have amazing attention to detail. Very reasonable for price and the quality of food was amazing. Will definitely be returning

Paid a flying visit from Hull to a christening in Liverpool. Decided to try for a pub meal in the area before driving back. The meals were amazing, best we've had for a while. Only wish we lived nearer, would make it a weekly treat! Thanks so much to all.

My husband and i visited this pub for the first time today,the food was lovely and of a high standard of produce,the staff are friendly and helpful and attentive.We are definitely going back and will take friends and family. And lots of room on the car park.

Called yesterday evening with a friend, we didn’t have a booking but we were accommodated with no issue. Meal was great, had to ask for steak to be cooked a little more but this was no issue and rectified immediately. Although busy the atmosphere was great. Staff were friendly and very helpful especially the young lady who first sat us. Thanks for another lovely night.

We have been going to Royal standard for many years in the afternoon mostly. Have always enjoyed the meals, staff are friendly, prompt & lovely. Very good value for money.

The bar staff where great, the duty manager on shift wasn't the best. She seemed angry. Not welcoming.

Visited for a family birthday celebration and what a wonderful time we had. We sat upstairs as there was 20 of us which was lovely and private and all set up for us when we arrived. The food was delicious and the service outstanding. We had pre-ordered given the time of year and how many of us and everything ran like clockwork which is no easy task. Communication from the moment of booking was brilliant. Everyone commented on how much they enjoyed themselves. A huge thank you to all the staff who looked after us, they went above and beyond and really made our night! Highly recommended.

Went to my cousins baby-shower here and it was amazing, the food was insane, best pie I’ve ever had and the fish looked fantastic too. The staff were all really friendly and accommodating, the toilets were regularly cleans, I personally saw the staff in there twice checking the cleanliness. Heated smoking area was a bonus too, I would definitely recommend 🤍

I visited this pub for the first time to attend my nieces baby shower. The room upstairs was set up lovely and all the staff were very attentive. We ordered for for all the party which was delivered at the same time for such a big group this was no easy task. I ordered the award winning pie and it was the nicest pie I have eaten. The pastry was beautiful aswell. The food was all reasonably priced as was the alcohol. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

The best pub in Liverpool. A special place. Good atmosphere, amazing food, good service.

If it is a hot day do not sit by the window as it becomes unbearable with the sun burning on your back and although there is a roller blind you dont feel it would be your place to pull it down and block light for other customers. Also glass had lipstick on which they changed once I bought it to there attention. Service is good and food lovely
