Excellent place only went for a snack very nice the service was quick and lovely and pleasant deffo go again

I’ve been here for pancakes twice. The first time they were quite nice American style pancakes, nice enough for me to return a second time. The second time was really disappointing, the worst pancakes I’ve ever had. Not sure if this was a one off or a permanent change to the menu but I won’t be returning to find out. Staff are pleasant but the food is not at all.

I've been here a few times with no issues, but the latest batch of pancakes I had were disgusting to be honest. Worst Pancakes I've ever had. We won't be coming here again

Food & service were great. Had a chilled out atmosphere. The person serving us was really helpful & friendly. I'd never had pancakes before and the ones here were amazing. They had a baby chair for my cousins little one & baby changing facilities upstairs. Will deffo go back whenever I'm in the area 5*. 🤘

“I’m leaving this review simply for the staff, In hopes they can make a change and this place lives up to its high standards again!!!” Been coming here for years, Atleast twice a month and always order the exact same thing “Portland breakfast”.. the last 2 times I’ve been I have to say I’ve been very underwhelmed! Firstly I completely understand that food has become expensive and it’s difficult to keep the same quality of food for the same prices but Id rather pay that bit extra. The steak on the breakfast has changed to the cheaper option, disappointing as this used to be my favourite thing on the breakfast. The waffle is slightly over cooked and just crumbles. Tea is very cheap.. Glasses need abit of a better clean as they have a damp smell! Portland, your staff are lovely but please take note when there’s customers waiting at the door to be seating in a restaurant and the young lad is on his phone for 3 minutes not looking up to even greet us, it’s not a good look! Like I said I absolutely love Portland st so I’m going to give it one more go and hopefully my next visit wins me over.

Took my son for some lunch I ordered the simple burger and he ordered chicken plus we ordered some salt and pepper mix dish I've never tasted food like it the burger was dry clearly one off last nights warm up the burger was also a single when ordered a double the share plate salt and pepper thing wasn't nice at all new I should off gone to the tavern across the road

The Portland breakfast is my top recommendation- steak just right, tasty bacon, perfect poached egg, wonderful waffle in maple syrup and potatoes cooked just right! Good veggie choices too. Now my favourite breakfast near Penny Lane. Book ahead though they get busy!

Nice cafe lovely staff great breakfast

Took my family for brunch. We ordered coffee and cooked breakfasts. Have to say I have never tasted such poor coffee. It tasted like cheap instant powder despite them having a coffee machine on the counter. Not sure if they re-use the coffee grounds as my ‘strong’ coffee was weak and nasty. The breakfasts arrived and were lukewarm and dried out as if they had been pre-cooked. The bacon was fatty and the sausages cheap. Partner could not eat the black pudding as it was grizzly. Toast was also the cheapest brand of smart price and spread with what tasted like margarine. Very disappointed considering the cost. Wetherspoons breakfast is half the price but double the quality. Would not recommend.

Amazing staff manager and food !!

Have not been here in years so decided to sit in and have breakfast. Hot chocolate was poor and tasted awful. Breakfast was flavourless and wasn’t worth the £45 bill. Will not be returning.

Had a lovely Halloumi and Avocado toastie, served by the lovely Faye and John the owner popped out to say Hi which made my experience very special. Can’t wait to bring my whole family back!

It was a little quiet, but mid afternoon , service was spot on. They made up a meal i requested for my elderly mother, which was not on their menu. Cannot fault them she thoroughly enjoyed herself so thanknyou so much. Highly recommended for a visit.

Disappointing visit. Booked a table for Brunch as had heard good things. Clearly understaffed which is problematic these days but insisted on filling every table and sitting more tables when we had been sat ages waiting for service. Walked out after 17 mins before any contact from staff

Went for my birthday breakfast We asked for beans in a tub and it came with beans all over the plate when told that's not what we ordered she took it away and put all the food on a clean plate with bean juice all over it sent it back the coffees wear ice cold there pancakes wear still raw in the middle of them bacon wasn't cooked the steak was freezing I wouldn't recommend going hear at all waste of money and it wasn't cheap

Birthday treat for me today . Gorgeous breakfast with birthday pancakes to follow ! Nine of us all served at the same time by a lovely waitress - couldn’t fault it . Well worth a visit .

Gorgeous food, lovely staff and very reasonably priced

The owner needs to learn some customer service skills. I am a manager of a restaurant and disgusted to be made to pay for a breakfast that I did not eat and didn’t like. The scrambled eggs where low quality eggs threw on top of thick flour tasteless pancakes and cold bacon. I politely asked the server if I could swap it for something else as I didn’t like it the dish. The server was lovely and seemed scared of the owner as she said he would not take it off the bill and I had to pay for something I did not eat. The owner would not come out to explain why I had to pay for a meal I did not like/eat. It made sense why the tavern and leaf restaurants close by where so full and this restaurant was half empty. Will not come back again and will be telling all my customers about this experience.

Walked in to be told come back in a few minutes as they had to clearer tables , I understand if they had just been busy so needed time to clearer down but could of been addressed in a different manner. Totally put me off even going back. Shocking service

It’s going like the Tavern this place. Dry food and there was a hair in my partner’s food. They still charged her for it even though it went back. The cutlery and the table were also unclean. I won’t bother again.

After hearing rave reviews about the service and food we were extremely underwhelmed. We waited over 40 minutes for drinks when other tables had received there’s that came in after us (it wasn’t busy). The food was basic and not worth the price tag. We had to send eggs back that were not cooked properly and the waitress took a picture of the food while we were eating to “show the kitchen”…. and the service was worse than you get at McDonalds. We were polite but made it clear we weren’t happy and we we didn’t even receive a simple apology for the food/service we received. We couldn’t wait to leave so paid the bill and left. It’s only upon reviewing the bill now that we were massively over charged which is why I’m writing this review. We asked if we could exchange some items on some of the dishes due to allergies etc and we can now see we were charged for those exchanges (extra of an item already on the dish). On top of that, the eggs that we complained about, we were charged for the replacement of those too! Absolutely shocking!! Wouldn’t recommend.

First time eating here. It was lovely, all done up for Halloween so spider webs and pumpkins everywhere. The food was a pleasure too. My avocado and feta on toast was delicious, as was the Irish breakfast my husband had and the BLT my friend chose. All in all we enjoyed a great visit here.

I hired Portland Street's Pod for a week of busy freshers events across a variety of University locations and it was great! The team were really friendly and efficient at serving the food for high numbers of students. We had countless compliments on the food quality. I would highly recommend the pod for events and would definitely use them again in future.

Lovely breakfast and good service

One of the best breakfasts I've had. Great range of food and also drinks. The coffee is so good, especially the secret menu item, the 'Emma special' if Emma is working. Great hosts and great prices. The food is so good, the chef does an amazing job and the desserts are also lovely. Would 100% recommend eating here.

Went for breakfast with friends and can honestly say it was the nicest I’ve had I a long time. Loads of choice - I went for the Irish , my friends breakfast pizza fries were amazing and the pancakes were the icing on the cake. All served hot and fresh by a lovely friendly waitress who couldn’t do enough for us . Definitely worth a visit .

Great little Street food venue with food to match! Staff were lovely and helpful, nothing was a problem. The food was so lovely, two opted for burgers and two for a few Asian style dishes to share. Crispy sui mai were just delicious 😋. This was finished with a donut dream, can't remember what it was called but it tasted devine! Far too much for one person this photo does not due it justice.

Ok waiting on staff bit slow and look in world of there own. Definitely under staff probably. Food was ok not great not in a hurry to go back best thing was the ribs. The rest was disappointing. Drinks pricey food mediocre.

We had breakfast here just after Xmas and it was really lovely. Great service and the staff were so busy. People forget that due to covid a lot of places are short staffed and service is a lot slower than usual due to less staff and social distancing etc so should really think ahead before leaving negative reviews. We eat here often and never had a bad experience. Thank you!

Overly priced greasy spoon! Very disappointed.. Staff pleasant.. Quality of food awful, everything deep fried greasy, astonished by prices asked! neighbouring restaurants of high quality same price.! . Expected same standards.. Not chippy sausages and soggy hash browns.. Will not be returning sadly as menu does not live up to expectations.

We had not visited since the pandemic started, so almost 2 years. Very disappointed to find that the menu had changed. We used to order about 5 of their small plates between us, but this is no longer an option. Also, they have stopped their Cajun sweet potato fries. This is a deal breaker and we won’t be coming back. Sorry.

Well worth a visit for the breakfast, much better than the famous place opposite and no queuing up.weve been again today 2nd oct everything spot on, one health and safety point the stairs and landing to the toilets are dangerously slippery as though its been washed in a greasy substance. Needs sorting ASAP.

Excellent service, really friendly, great breakfasts plenty of variety. Do recommend the full English and Veggie option unlimited filter coffee served with a smile.

The food was incredible especially the breakfast pizza fries- big portion so I took the rest home and had it the next day. Quality of the ingredients and the taste was top level! Highly recommended this. The reason for a 4 star is- the waitress. when a table of 2 lads come in 10 minutes after us and got served first even though we've been waiting 15-20 minutes and she's looked at us, we asked if we could order she said she'd be back but tried to ignore us and serve the table next to us. This is not very professional nor a good experience apart from the food.

Booked a table for 12:00 on arrival we had to wait to get in a queue door to get in as it was so busy when we finally got to the front at 12:07 we was turned away as they had give the table away to people in front of us. The staff are extremely unhelpful and what’s the point in booking a table if they will give it to anyone anyway just like to say thanks for making my child cry

Extremely poor service that was not the fault of the sole waitress working. She was trying her best but clearly needed further help in trying to see to the customers. I got the steak and eggs, which was good, but served with mushrooms that were clearly out of a tin. The milkshake was topped with UHT cream, which considering I paid £5.50 for it, it’s not unreasonable to expect fresh cream. My partner got the chicken waffle burger, again all produce was clearly frozen and deep fried from the freezer.

First time visited here after hearing people say how good it was. Had the Irish breakfast was super nice! Our Server was Ellie well at least the receipt says that! Absolutely amazing service. This girl was polite cheery and chatty made our morning. Can't wait to come again x

We ordered a meal through Uber eats, to be honest we have done this a few times during lockdown the meal from Portland street has been the best by far. We got shredded chilli beef salt and pepper chicken rice fried with peanuts and coriander...

The food at Portland St was nice and worth the price. The service however was very slow, and despite booking a table we were left standing in the doorway for over 10 minutes. The waitress then comes to us and says "are you okay?" as though we're there to deliver her post rather than waiting for a table. She was very sullen and unfriendly which dampened the experience a little. Similarly, when waiting for the bill we were left for a ridiculously long time when the staff could see that we were ready to pay. All in all, good food but lazy staff so would not be in a rush to go back.

Should have just went to the local chippy. Terribly inconsistent and poor value for money. Been a total of 5 times. One of them was a complete wrong order and 2/5 of the times, the food as dry as dust and was below the level of the local chip shop.
