Absolutely horrendous food. Scouse was over priced and bland. One piece of meat between two bowls. Kids meal was okay. Mold on ceiling upstairs. Lady had an attitude for no apparent reason.

We found Maggie May's quite easily. It was very busy inside. The staff on the counter wasn't very helpful. We was new to their cafe so didn't know the protocol of if we order af the counter or table service etc. No smile on her face whatsoever! The food was good if a little pricey at £8.95 for a bowl of scouse and 3 small rolls. Other than the assistants attitude it was a great experience as we'd travelled on the train specially just to try Maggie May's scouse.

Fantastic classic café with a traditional atmosphere. This is not where you go for a beer, but for feeling at home. I came in after the kitchen had closed, but still I was offered to have Scouse which was what I came for. Coming from Norway, it tasted very much like the original Norwegian Lapskaus. This is an old family business and I had a nice chat with the owner.

Service was great here. Food hit the spot. First bowl of scouse!

When for a bite to eat. Food was OK. We cleaned our plates. Staff need to smile and display more of a friendly approach when serving customers.

First scouse for me, so I can't compare, but I found this dish very tasty and refined. This is typically what I was looking for. A traditional atmosphere that feels good.

I think they are missing an opportunity to offer a real Liverpool scran experience. It's on Bold Street where lots of tourists eat. Food is just ok, and there is no vibe. There's nothing to say let's go back.

Booked a table before a visit to The Scouse Panto. Had vegetarian breakfast & friend had sausage & chips. I had delicious hot fudge cake later. This was my 1st visit to Maggie May's and won't be last service was excellent from staff and pleasant and prompt . Food was proper hot and delish ,my friend said same of hers. It was busy but atmosphere was calm. We were not rushed to leave. Lovely experience today.

Doesn't get more local and authentic than this. The scouse was very delicious.

We ordered a scouse, and it only had potatoes and carrots, no meat and the portion was small.

All in all, a lovely place and tried scouse for the first time - loved it! The mocha was also lovely too. Nice decor and warm inside when it’s cold outside.

Visited Liverpool 14/15/16 November for the 1st time from my home in Torquay Devon ,while sightseeing I asked a local postlady to recommend a local cafe for some lunch and Maggie Mays was the venu ,fantastic food ,lovely staff and good prices ,my next visit to Liverpool I will be eating at Maggie Mays again .

I attended your establishment on Thursday for brunch I purchased 4 poached eggs on toast with an Americano The lady who served me was very polite. When the food arrived initially i thought it looked very good however once I began to eat it it became apparent that the eggs had been VERY undercooked they was very snotty in texture and stone cold in the middle. This was a concern to me so I explained to the lady serving that I couldn't eat them she said she understood and took them away. She brought me some more out and again they looked OK, 2 of the 4 eggs showed great improvement however they still didn't seem to be cooked enough. Can we please consider here I work all over the county and eat in restaurants and cafes every day of the week, I'm not generally one to complain but on this occasion I feel I need to as since last night and all today all I have done is vomit, my stomach is in bits.

It's a regular lunch time visit. Never fails to please. A bit 'scouse', so don't expect modern food.

I had the English Breakfast, it was good but it was missing hash browns and mushrooms. But overall it was good. The place is very authentic and the staff is very friendly.

Ohhh boy! Fantastic BUSY location in the heart of Liverpool centre. Bold street is full with restaurants and shops for all choices, really! We popped in this restaurant because we wanted something real English style food. You have to pay in advance of the service, by the counter (card/cash). Cosy little place. The lady by the till was nice and helpful. The lady who put (I would rather say thrown) the cutleries on the table was very rude (dark hair). How can they employ someone in the hospitality business who hates the customers and her job?! Food arrived pretty quick. The ‘famous’ Scouse - we ordered this food for our foreign friend. The food looked like a vegetable stew, tasteless, pale something. Terrible disappointment! The portion was tiny (and to be fair big enough of this something)… this food deserves 1 ⭐️ Roasted Gammon with egg and pineapple and coleslaw salad - food was piping hot (fantastic!). Gammon was tasty, with a slice of cheap tinned pineapple. Coleslaw was tasty - just wondering if it was homemade or ready made (from a warehouse’s shelf). All day English breakfast - 7 out of 10. Wasn’t any special add on 🤷🏻‍♂️ They should (and I’m sure they could!) do miles and earn many more satisfied customers, people would go and eat in their restaurant! Go and try a food at this place, and give a word if they’re rude. Also: NEVER PAY FOR THE SCOUSE - unless they’re changing the food completely and giving an extra little on the top of the portion…

A 7 star breakfast, the service was amazing and on top form, I came from Cheshire just for a recommended breakfast and I'm glad I did, totally will take the trip again for this breakfast

Not great. Extremely slow service (20 mins to get a terrible pot of weak tea). Small portion, I would say. Left feeling hungry still. But tasted nice.

Might be great for breakfast or other dishes, however, the Scouse is very underwhelming, just basic mushy vegetable, very bland and very little meat. Feels like they would make a bit more effort for the dish they seem to have been famous for. Sorry to say this but seems like you might need to Give your famous dish more love (and beef) Steak pie was Ok, small portion, nice gravy but nothing special, not massively crusty pie crust. Had a big pot of tea, which was great, but that cost £4.95 so not exactly a bargain. Service fine, order at bar. Given the total cost of the meal for two (£22) I wish I’d gone somewhere else. I’m sure for a fry up they’d be ace.

Absolutely gem of a cafe, food hot hot, not like some that'll serve lukewarm food and drinks, staff friendly cheerful, service fast and good, nothing rushed . My meal roast chicken dinner served with vegetables and new potatoes and gravy, highly recommend for anyone, will I be back most definitely will along with friends next time....

Was looking forward to visiting Maggie mays to try out the traditional scouse, wasn't impressed at all, the scouse its self was bland, and expensive for the portion size, almost £9.00 for very small bowl, disappointing visit.

I love the vibe of this place including the decorations. While I appreciate the authentic flavors of traditional Scouse dishe, I'm a bit disappointed with the portion sizes. I think the amount of meat, in particular, is quite small. I would have liked to have a more satisfying serving. Overall I'm happy.

My parents brought me here as they use to dine at Maggie mays in their student year's. Traditional scouse is fabulous.

Literally one of my favourite places in all of Liverpool. We make a point of visiting every time we are in town from Hong Kong. The staff members are amazing, making us feel completely welcome and serving up great food with a smile. What more could one want? Great cakes too!

We went to this restaurant because it had very good reviews of the typical Liverpool dish, scous, but the reality is that it was disappointing because it is a stew and quite tasteless. The staff is very very nice and the place is cozy.

Went for a bowl of scouse. Disappointed, taste was okay but hardly any meat, 3 or 4 little pieces in both mine and my daughter's, more like blind scouse.

Really good place pop in for breakfast we had toast t cakes and pot of tea and coffee then pop in 6 hours later had two bowls of Scouse and two beers spot on really good look like a old fashioned tea room really good service staff friendly nice and clean and same with the toilet definitely be back

Food was terrible, pork was pink and the portion sizes were tiny, woman at the front was rude when asking before if we could substitute a couple of things, said if we swapped 2 we could only get one and that was after she initially refused a swap

Excellent scouse, all the food is freshly made, very good quality and price, the burgers are super delicious, the desserts are very good. Fast and professional service, excellent atmosphere, many locations. We saw it on the lonely Planet and that's why we went. Phenomenal

just popped in for home made steak pie new potatoes peas n carrots..awful . tinned new potatoes carrots so overboiled they were like mush.and as for the pie 2 bits of meat. pay a bit xtra and go to efil across the road

We went in for a full English Breakfast.. The place was spotless. The staff immediately came over to us, no waiting... The breakfast was fantastic, lovely fresh produce.. I would recommend a meal at Maggie May's at anytime of the day. A well deserved 5 stars😋

We are regular visitors to Liverpool and everytime we go we now try to fit in a visit to maggie Mays cafe and bar. I do the Guinness tours of Liverpool pubs and need a hearty start to the day with a full English breakfast. We now partake in their famous scouse on most visits. We recommend this cafe to one and all. Scouse is a local meal with history, some just eat it the once for the experience of being back in Liverpool before all this fancy food. It has to be tasted and Maggie Mays is the most authentic scouse we have found so far. We come from a part of Staffordshire where our local equivalent was lobby. I have a 6 ltr pan when made it lasts me a week. Try the scouse and take a step back in time, you never know you maybe asking for the recipe to take home. 5 star rating from us. Great cafe, great owners, great staff. Wholesome food with great clean surroundings. How many greats do you want.

The scouse was horrible. Both bowls had two chuncks of beef between them! Very disappointed. Would not go again!

This is a typical Liverpool home style restaurant. I visited because I wanted to try Scouse and Steak Pie. As it was a Friday evening, it was nice to be able to have a quiet meal in a somewhat quiet atmosphere. They are not fancy or special, but rather rustic dishes. I think it feels like eating at ordinary homes in Liverpool. It was delicious and filling, and I really liked the friendly staff and the natural, unforced feel. If I come to Liverpool again, I will come back here.

First time been there my mum told me about the place she gos every Saturday. I thought the food was excellent and the way they keep the place clean which you want from a cafe 5 stars bee going back again

Nice atmosphere, but the food is so English... If you are Spanish, don't go. The roast chicken was very sad, the hamburger was one of the worst we have eaten in years, the scouse... what can I say! It wasn't bad, a sad potato stew, a lot, with meat, a little. However, the atmosphere with its green tablecloths is very pleasant. Incomprehensible that it is so highly valued. It makes me believe that the opinions on these forums are all false.

We were aimlessly walking along the street searching for local fares and chanced upon Maggie May's. The place brings about a sense of nostalgia and alot of locals walk-in to have their brunch. Food was good, service was great and lots of ticks in our boxes.

Visited here on the suggestion of a friend. We wanted somewhere not too loud as we j wanted a chat. This is a proper cafe! Breakfasts and lunches, some mains like scouse. Friends had veggie and vegan breakfasts and enjoyed them. I had cheese toastie and chips. Affordable, nothing fancy. Staff efficient and friendly. We were able to have a good catch up so it was great for us.
