Royal Spice in Craven

Beware if there is only 2 of you wanting to eat out here. Waiter refused to let us sit on a table for 4 because there was only 2 of us. There were 3 empty tables for 4 plus 1 table for 2, but that was pushed up to the service counter and that was the table the waiter offered us. We didn't want to sit immediatly next to where customers would be hovering over us whilst paying for and collecting take-aways and where the phone was ringing and conversations between the waiter and customers were regularly taking place. When he said we couldn't sit elsewhere, I said 'we'll leave it then'. Then the waiter responded, in a sarcastic voice, with a 'BYEEE'. So that's a loss of income for them of between £1500-£1700 over the next year as we would have called in for a sit down meal for two every fortnight, plus a takeaway for two once a fortnight. We then had a meal at one of their competitors and then walked around Settle before heading off home. Whilst walking around Settle we looked into the Spice restaurant again to see if all the tables that we had been refused the use of, had now been taken. Wow is all I can say such a lovely restaurant which I stumbled across as I struggled to find food. Not only did they let me in before they had opened but the owner was so helpful created the hottest curry they could and all for a very reasonable price. The owner was exceptional and I’m only gutted as I was on holiday so not my usual restaurant! Don’t over look this place as I know bringing your own alcohol can be off putting the food is so worth it!

Poor service, ordered a chickpea curry but a chicken curry came. Was quickly rectified but with uncooked chickpeas and steamed spinach. Starter was fine and other curry was ok but the service was poor and made to feel unwelcome.

4 of us had the set meal for 4. Great service & loads of decent food. Very reasonably priced too.

We walked in and was greeted by a very friendly waiter, we started with Poppadoms and pickle tray which was very nice, starters were good (onion bhaji & sheek kebab) Curry's and naans were also very good (Chicken balti & Royal Khali) the Khali is a selection of curries with rice, highly recommended, even though the restaurant was packed we were served very quickly and all in all it was excellent, £45 for the meal & £10 for drinks (all bought from the co-op) Highly recommend 5*

Spice was recommended to us and it was lovely . They don’t have a license but you can take your own drink , result . We went to the coop for our drink . The owner was very friendly and the food was amazing

Ordered 2 portions of onion bhajis but they were like bricks. Phoned to complain and they did replace them. I specified they needed to be fresh and they were. This how they should be cooked every single time without the need to be asked. And they should not be so crunchy you could almost break your teeth!!! Will not be coming back again. Great curry with friends! Lovely menu with all the old classics but plenty of new dishes to try! We enjoyed poppadoms and several starters to share then 4 dishes with naans and rice. Excellent food, portion sizes were spot on and the staff friendly and helpful! Loved it!

Looked promising from appearances sake but only given lukewarm water from tap, at least ice and a slice and chilled water would have been welcomed. As for the food, both starters were just ok, but the mains we expected to be medium and hot but both were bland and uninteresting. Added to which my friend's chicken was tasteless, clearly not marinated in the spices, obviously had been precooked and at the end, so making it dry and chewy. Portions were meagre. We knew it was a non alcohol restaurant but the coke and lemonade ordered came from a Coop bought 2ltr bottle which was warm and flat, also costing us £3 each. Cans are ALWAYS a better fresher option. Appearances and small touches like these make a huge difference to the enjoyment of the meal.

It’s cooked fresh! Don’t think so…. The food arrived 10 minutes after it was ordered so is just a reheated gravy with meat added (I only got 7 small pieces padded out with onions and peppers) The chapatti were wafer thin so got sent back. To be fair it was super tasty and the service was good but it was about the worst curry experience we’ve had in a long time (And we’ve had fish curry for breakfast in Sri Lanka!)

The curry was fine but nothing special. The service was borderline rude and not attentive. I was told more than once that this is not the time to order drinks and then just left hanging. Getting tap water for the table was also a challenge

Ordered a takeaway. Do not get the doner kebab. Consisted of 2 bits of meat and 12 chips in a bit of tasteless bread. Chicken tikka masala bland, chicken not seasoned at all. Poppadoms burnt. Watery mint sauce. Naan bread was the only semi decent part. Rang up to complain (never complained about a takeaway before) and was met with a “sorry, the boss has gone now” at 9pm on a Saturday night. Poor food, poor customer service. Disappointing waste of hard earned money.

I can safely say my wife and myself are Curry veterans with over 50 years experience. If we have had a better Indian meal than this I can’t remember when, yes it was that good and reasonably priced, also staff were spot on. If you go remember no alcohol sold on premises but Co op virtually next door. Thanks Paul and Belinda hope to see you soon 🍛

Generally pretty awful experience. Plates and glasses weren’t washed properly and we found a hair in our starter. Fries looked and tasted as if they’d been microwaved repeatedly. The chicken in all of our mains was incredibly dry and chewy and the accompanying sauces tasted awful.

On holiday in Settle and met a local couple who recommended Royal Spice so we went. Very average and not nearly as good as the other Indian Restaurant in Settle. Food was OK . Too few prawns in my curry. Bland rice and the serving staff gave the impression that you were just another number and can we(the staff) go home ASAP. Not licensed, so take you own.

Excellent food. We came in early. They are very very kind. Good service. Ambiance is so so. We ordered two curries, mixed tikka and rice, naan’s (peshwari and garlic) and a chapati. Started off with pickles and poppadoms. Later on we ordered a large jug of mango lassi. Very tasty. Price was below 60 pounds! Take note it is bring your own alcohol. They provide glasses and the supermarket is just across the small street. We had a great Indian experience here!

Went with a group, but seem that they didn't care about us. However, a lot of interaction with us and locals are very friendly. The food was ok, not the best. I've had chips, not so good curry sauce with tiki grill, everyone else seemed to enjoy if you want beer or wine take your own as its a dry house this might be why they were not so interested in us who knows.

Informal and friendly restaurant in the heart of Settle. Owner was very flexible in fitting in our party of 5 very hungry people without a booking. We specially liked the Mango Lassi. Very reasonable prices. Bring your own alcohol - there is a shop just across the road.

It's really nice food, but the place could do with a makeover. I also don't suggest the chef smoking out the front in his very dirt whites like he was doing.

Had the Royal Spice special curry and what made it special was that it didn't taste of anything.Has to be the blandest curry I've ever had,no bight or Spice.Just nothing. Hugely disappointed.

We were staying in Settle so gave Settle Spice a go - so glad we did. The team were so friendly and welcoming, the food was really good. The vegetable thali was excellent and my family enjoyed the royal tandoori, chicken tikka and chicken handi. Thank you for a fab evening!

We eat here every time we visit settle and always have a great meal , can highly recommend, it’s now bring your own drink too .

We had a second meal from Royale Spice, York. On both occasions the service has been fantastic and the food delicious! It’s so good to have a quality curry restaurant close by. We’ve eaten in once and picked up a meal on the other occasion. All the dishes we tried were lovely and the staff friendly. We’ll worth a visit.

Ordered a takeaway on 27/01/23, ordered poppadoms, chutney tray, chicken tikka masala, chicken vindaloo, royal special curry, really nice and tasty l, naan breads could be better but I wouldn't mark it down for that as well all enjoyed the meals

A fantastic meal at the restaurant. All in our party of 4 had a great meal. Busy & good atmosphere on Christmas Eve. I have had takeaways previously but this was my first in restaurant meal. Now called "Settle Spice" & take your alcohol. Recommended.

Worst Indian Ever Ordered a takeaway but so disappointed. The poppadoms tasted old in old oil. The prawn purees we ordered were missing so had to go back for them and wish we hadn't bothered. Mains, bland and sweet. Absoutley shocking

My husband and myself decided to visit this restaurant, we have passed many times while walking through Settle. What a lovely place was a delightful meal my husband and myself really enjoyed our currys. The potion size was perfect. We both had a mango mocktail and this was delicious. There was a steady stream of people coming in to order takeaway. The staff were lovely and helpful with curry choice. We will definitely go again.

Our first visit here (for a take-out) while staying at Orcaber Caravan site, Austwick. Really excellent meal. The lamb was really tender and fat-free, always an indicator of the standard of a restaurant in my book. The Royal Thali was delicious, as was the Lamb Handi. I actually ordered Chicken Handi, but it was so good, I can't complain. The welcome was lacking. At least give us a smile and look glad to have a customer. The menu offered free poppadoms or Onion Bhajis with orders over £10, but they were absent. So, not perfect, but a really enjoyable meal and we would return.

Excellent Indian restaurant and food, the staff made us feel really welcome and we're very attentive. They do not have a licence, but allow you to bring your own and they supply glasses. Don't worry, there is a Co-Op across the street. We enjoyed it so much we went back 3 nights later. 😁😁😁
