This is not a noticeably good pub for food. On the lower side of ordinary. there are other places to eat in bigbury, not least the generally very good Oyster Shack. people who view this on the Plymouth listing should not be put off the wholly acceptable Royal oak pub at Hooe on the Plymstock Turnchapel side of Plymouth or the sometimes too busy and slapdash but largely OK Royal oak at Meavy.

We had not visited this Pub for food for about 3 years but decided to give it a go. We heard that the new owners were doing some nice food. We were greeted nicely by a waitress and given a table, we had not booked beforehand, which was cosy and reasonably laid up. We were given a menu on which there were a limited number of options which is a good sign as the food is obviously cooked fresh or at least not frozen. After 10 minutes the waitress came for our order over which we had agonsied for that 10 minutes. We both chose for the main course different items. At that point we were told that neither item was now on the menu. We made a hurried new choice which was not really what we wanted. However what we did have was quite acceptable and came out hot and looking fresh. The wine was reasonably priced and the beer was OK though not the one I had asked for as it was off. (not bad but none left). This was only pub food but the prices were a little high for what one was getting. During our 7 days in the area we opted not to return as there was no other dishes on the menu that appealed to us.

Purchased 3 steak pasties what has happened to this bakery used to be so good the pasties were awful no meat and just potato and onion no taste at all and the meat patties were the best but now it's all pastry about a teaspoon of filling won't be going Friary mill again.

There are now two eat in coffee and snack shops in this terrace, both doing well but to the extent that at peak times they can be full. That and the pressure on parking places means that you can be stuck and hungry but that’s where Friary kicks in because they do still have a good range pasties etc, sticky buns slices and all the rest. No wonder there is often a queue.

Disgraceful, never again. Been eating and drinking there for years. Took family there for an evening meal. Having spent over £200 pounds, at 9:15 we were told they weren't serving any more drinks, as they were closing and we had to leave. No apology and the member of staff walked away while we were speaking to her. This was entirely unprovoked, we had been quiet and polite all evening. It was purely because it had gone quiet, and most customers had left, not surprising if that's how they treat people.
