Royal Oak in South Bucks

Good food, plenty of it and reasonably priced. However they were pretty busy and service was slow. However, Steph and Steve did their best under the circumstances. Apart from that a very enjoyable experience.

Down from Norwich visiting our daughter decided to go out for a meal and chose the Royal Oak which we had visited on numerous occasions when living nearby. We had a warm friendly welcome and as the restaurant was fully booked we were offered a table in the bar, which was fine. Drinks and food ordered. We waited about 10/15 mins for our starter which we throughly enjoyed. Followed by our hearty dinners with no complaints. Service with a smile at all times by Danni, Steph and Hayley.

Great attentive service as always. Surprisingly busy for a Wednesday afternoon, but did not affect the service levels. Fish and chips were excellent, goes well with guinness zero Took advantage of an offer which was really worth it, very few if any "gotchas" in it.

We were here to celebrate my son’s 11th birthday and enjoyed the food, service and everything. We had nice time and thanks to Danni for making our special day more memorable.

Very well attended to by the staff at our last visit. Shame there are never many roasts left towards the latter end of the day but I guess that is to be expected.

Another great meal, a fantastic Steak and Ale pie, veg and mash perfect (Wife's steak was also apparently wonderful) Always a friendly team and great service as always from Steph. Just enough mellow background music to break the silence.

Shocking Service and Hostile Attitude I visited The Royal Oak in Farnham Common today with my family, and I am appalled by the experience. The pub was completely empty, yet we were met by an older lady whose attitude was downright hostile. She clearly has no understanding of basic customer service. I was with my two children, one of whom is autistic, and requested to sit on a bench-style table for ease and comfort. Her response? A flat-out no with a patronizing explanation that only four people could sit there—even though the space could easily accommodate five, especially as two of us were kids. This was nothing short of unnecessary and unreasonable. Her tone and behavior were sickening and made us feel completely unwelcome. As an Asian family, the treatment we received felt laced with prejudice. Her attitude reeked of discrimination, and I honestly felt that we were being judged from the moment we walked in. We left immediately and went elsewhere, as there was no way we were going to tolerate such appalling treatment. To the management: if this is the kind of person representing your business, you need to take a serious look at who you employ. It was one of the most unpleasant experiences we’ve ever had at a pub.

This was my first visit with my Brother and sister on 2nd of January. Arrived at 4.00pm nice comfortable surroundings. Friendly staff. And despite unforseen delay with food coming to table.We were kept informed by staff. When food did arrive it was worth the wait. Look forward to visiting again.

A chef & brewer pub. The food is good, the beers are okay, less guest beers than there used to be. Nice to pop round not for a light lunch.

We went there today, Christmas Day, and had a wonderful Christmas lunch. Brilliant!

The pub has a lovely atmosphere and both staff who served us where nice however the food took a very long time to come and the dessert so long we cancelled it. She was very apologetic but as it was our works Xmas do (8 of us) it was a bit disappointing.

Really relaxed atmosphere, and our servers Hayley and Danni were lovely. We had the signature burger, and steak and ale pie - both delicious and will definitely be ordered again!

Pop in on my lunch break and had the chicken burger, it was hot tasty and quick. Service wad friendly and atmosphere was enjoyable. Great little country pub, couple dog walkers in and festive decorations look lovely.

Always a good selection. Food was served hot and in large portions. Service was perfect. Friendly and attentive staff. Children's menu offered good food choices not just chips and nuggets. We were all spoilt for choice.

The food was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere in the pub was relaxing and quiet, even if it was full. The only thing we didn't liked it so much was the long time needed to take our order and also the time to deliver it to the table.

Een fijne plek om wat te eten. Honden mogen mee naar binnen, voor ons heel belangrijk :) Even wennen dat je aan de bar moet gaan bestellen. Owja, een grote cola is ook echt een grote cola (halve liter). We hadden een vega gerecht. De kaart is voornamelijk voor vlees eters, maar er staan wel wat vega gerechten op. Dik in orde. Het was heel mooi opgediend, zag er heel goed uit en smaakte ook nog eens heel erg lekker. De portie was ook groot genoeg. Er zijn gratis parkeerplekken voor de deur. We waren zelf eerst gaan wandelen in Burnham Beeches. een aanrader ! Daarna is het nog een stukje naar de Royal Oak, uiteraard kun je dat ook met de auto doen. Het personeel is vriendelijk en de bediening gaat redelijk vlot. Binnen is het ook netjes. Het was er best wel druk. Het geheel is verdeeld in 2 delen. Het voorste deel waar je "in de pub"zit en waar je de hond mee mag nemen. En de andere kant is het wat "sjiekere" deel. Ruim voldoende om na het wandelen iets te eten. Fijne plek

Heather our waitress was so helpful and served us promptly - we were told what the specials were and ordered our meals and drinks quickly - we ordered burgers, grilled chicken and a signature burger both delicious - A side of halloumi fries very tasty and crispy - service was very group - a quite evening but cosy atmosphere would recommend and go back

We have eaten here many of times in the past with our family, easy access for our daughter who is in a wheelchair. Staff are friendly and welcoming especially (steph). Food is always on point and reasonably priced.

I have friends who live nearby, since the Royal Oak is on a bus route it is convenient for us to get together here. I can say every time we eat here I am impressed, the warmth of the greeting, the atmosphere, the layout all makes your visit a pleasure. On this occasion we were welcomed by Danni who showed us to our table and brought us our drinks - as usual a varied selection of beers and wines were available. Nayel then joined Danni and gave us the menu and specials, also remarking a party of 10 would be arriving so it could make sense to place our orders soon - no problems with this, we all seemed to know exactly what we wanted! Our food arrived and we were asked if we needed any sauces or other condiments, all that was asked for was some vinegar (chips were on one of the meals!) -this appeared almost instantly. During the main course both Danni and Nayel politely checked that all was good, was the food as we wanted - of course it was so we complimented the (new) chef. We finished our main course and ever attentive Nayel cleared the plates asking if we wanted any desert? Two of us had desert (again excellent) whilst one decided on a cappuccino instead, joking 'please bring plenty of sugar', she does have an exceedingly sweet tooth! At the end of our meal whilst clearing the plates we chatted with Nayel saying how much we had enjoyed our lunch. The bill arrived, again what we had expected, we paid this ensuring a suitable gratuity was given in appreciation of the service we had. All in all a totally happy time was had by all.

A lovely dinner..the signature burger was fantastic and the service was very good. Thank you. I will be visiting again to try some of the other menu choices.

First time trying their breakfast and we were really impressed.

Danni, Tina and Jenny were amazing at looking after us all. We needed space for a wheelchair and they arranged an appropriate table to accommodate us all. They were so friendly and very attentive. Can't thank them enough. A lovely place 😊

**Disappointed and Unwelcome** I've been to The Royal Oak a few times with my family, and while we’ve always enjoyed the atmosphere, our most recent visit left us feeling deeply disappointed. Unfortunately, it wasn't just the food that fell short this time; the way we were treated by a particular member of staff was truly disheartening. As a family with young children, we understand that kids can be a bit energetic at times, but it's nothing unusual for a family-friendly establishment. However, this staff member seemed to have little understanding or patience for that. What made it even more concerning was that on previous visits, we’ve seen the same person be completely fine with other families and their children. The only noticeable difference between us and them was my Indian heritage, which left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. The food, too, was not up to the standard we've come to expect. What was once an enjoyable meal was now dry and lackluster, and the overall experience felt like a far cry from the pub we used to look forward to visiting. I would hope that The Royal Oak can address these issues—both in terms of the food and the way their staff treats all customers equally. Until then, I'm not sure we'll be coming back anytime soon.

Great service, fast and friendly.

This evening myself, my husband and son went out for a last minute meal. We were greeted by Steph who was absolutely lovely from beginning to end. The food was amazing and it was just a lovely relaxed evening. Thank you Steph & Kelvin for such a nice meal. Xx

Always receive great service from Steph when she's there, this visit Kelvin was also on hand to keep the drinks flowing as we were a big group. The meals were piping hot and tasty... Would recommend the vegan apple dessert!! Be back again soon!!

I might with a friend for a Sunday morning brunch at The Royal Oak. I had a lovely sausage sandwich which was a very filling and enjoyable start to the day. The bread was fresh and the filling generous, washed down with a pot of tea. Service was good and price excellent.

Classy pub, superb professional staff, amazing pub food. Calm and understated on a Saturday night, very relaxing meal in comfortable surroundings. Ultra dog friendly, we and our two dogs felt very welcome and look forward to returning. Thank you1

Lovely pub, the service was excellent Danni and Nayel were super friendly and helpful. The food was very delicious, the pork belly was very tender and tasty, the fish and chips had a crispy batter and tasted very fresh. We had a lovely meal. Thank you!

Unfortunately every option of food was not available at 4pm on a Sunday !! Felt sorry for the lovely staff, having to say everything was unavailable. Used to frequent this pub regularly, but last time had to walk out as most food was unavailable. It is such a shame, Somewhere housekeeping is not working .

The staff are always friendly and welcoming and Steph who works in the restaurant provides an excellent service and is always so happy and helpful and always makes us feel welcome.

We were on our way to family in UK after traveling from Boston to Gatwick. We had picked up a car and were looking for a decent meal. We found the Royal Oak - what a find. The staff were super welcoming and the menu even more so. Our quick lunch turned into a much longer affair as we enjoyed real cider and a really great meal. This is quite the place to go if you are anywhere near. We will certainly be back.

Tomato soup was delicious with a generous portion of bread and herby butter. Halloumi fries and Cottage Pie Croquettes were also very good. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 was the distance from the garden to the bar for ordering, there was a door in via the restaurant area but this was closed. To be fair, I didn't ask if it could have been opened at the time.

Paid £20 for a sirloin steak tonight and it was more gristly than a £1.50p iceland microwave rustler burger will not be returning again as the 5 other family members ended up with upset stomachs and thats me being polite

Amongst the best Chef and Brewer's we've been to. Great food, service and atmosphere. The staff were lovely, Kelvin, Jenni, Danni & Nayel did a fantastic job of ensuring we were seated at a nice table and the food was delicious and served on time.

They never let us down. Always a welcome food perfect made my granddaughter so welcome even her own child's cutlery. Service with a smile and an interest in us. Lovely surroundings too. You will not be disappointed .

We tried to book table for lunch for 11 people. We were said that max table size is for 8. We tried to book two tables for 6 then and were told 'the chef can't handle that many orders at the same time, even if we pre-order'. We had to find different place to celebrate our friends birthdays...

AVOID at all costs if you are a cyclist. Very unfriendly bar staff. Unlike the restaurant staff. We were about to order our meals and drinks, then told to move the bikes around to the back, by the manager. Although we’ve used this pub a few times, the atmosphere and attitude has always been unfriendly. 2/ 4/ 2024

Our first time at The Royal Oak for an evening meal out on a Saturday. We hadn’t booked but got a really lovely seat straight away, food was fantastic and our servers Steve, Jenny and kelvin were really friendly, attentive and made us both feel relaxed. Would highly recommend.

Had a splendid evening . Took the wife for her special 37th birthday and she had an amazing time. The food was outstanding, the bangers and mash are some of the best my wife has ever had, and she’s troed loads of different sausages. The ambiance was delectable, with a kind of renaissance feel. The service staff were so warm and welcoming and the manager seemed like a nice guy, although he kept telling us about his dog which it turned out passed away in a horrific car accident. The price for the meal was very reasonable, I even had change to treat the wife to a chocolate bar and rose from the garage on the way home . I would throughly recommend this place for a special occasion or just a nice treat. Can’t wait to take the wife back there again to celebrate her 38th!!!

Friendly service, good food, good value for money

Last December 2023 we had a wonderful company Christmas meal. Went back yesterday evening, rest of restaurant was empty, just our table of 4. Service was good but food was disappointing. I ordered roast chicken which was small piece, average taste but overloaded with potatoes. All food including gravy not hot, just warm. Very dissatisfied.

Steph and Jamie were very pleasant, great atmosphere some of the sauces have been changed which are not as good as they were.

Really bad arrogant staff and service!! Went for a Sunday roast (pre-booked) got served stale microwaved food! The manageress was far too arrogant for our liking and according to our English friends stated that she appeared to be racism and prejudiced! We will never go back here again!!

Booked online and paid fee for Easter Sunday Roast. Upon arrival got told kitchen closing in 15mins. Eventually after being ignored Waiter took our order. Food had clearly been heated in microwave and dumped infront of us. Soggy Yorkshire puddings / microwaved NOT SO ROAST potatoes. Waiter had misled us about desserts being available. We complained to manager, who was extremely arrogant and refused to acknowledge anything was wrong. We clearly saw another person of different colour being served desserts. Eventually mngr gave discount on the bill. Fact remains, staff are extremely mis trained, mngr is arrogant with no customer service skills and above all how can you advertise table availability and provide microwaved food !! Disappointed

great food, nice interior and good service.

The food was fantastic! I visited earlier this week before my trip ended and what a great way to end my vacation. Danni & Steve were extremely kind and provided the best service. Thank you both so much for such a positive experience with my family.
