Four of us were recommended this place so we rocked up. There was a lovely lady Shayni ( fabulous nails) behind the bar and a really friendly young man in the kitchen, Josh. The starters, mains and desserts were all scrumptious! My husband even made comments on their coffee. He often finds it bitter ( in other restaurants) but rated theirs. Thank you to both of you for making our experience so enjoyable.

Enjoyed a lovely roast dinner on Mothering Sunday. Nothing Gourmet, but perfect pub grub, exactly what you’d expect. Nicely presented and tasted great. The pub had a nice garden with views of Westbury white horse, which our little boy enjoyed looking at thru the window. Will be back in the summer so he can try out the slide, lol. Also, they were selling local made produce inside the door, and I took home the most amazing pickled eggs. Delicious. Thank you Royal Oak. Keep up the excellent service :)

Lovely cosy pub with friendly, efficient service. Food came out in good time - piping hot, delicious and a large portion. Reasonably priced. The whole ambiance is one of cozy, country pub. It’s not on a main road so look out for the signs as it is well worth the visit. On the strength or our experience we booked for Valentines night too! Highly recommend and will be back.

We have had a family meal here on numerous occasions over the last few years, but sadly the quality has definitely gone down hill. The haloumi fries were overcooked and deep fried to a crisp and the pastry topping on the pie was undercooked and raw in parts. It's a shame as it is a nice country pub, but the quality leaves a lot to be desired.

The menu looked great with lots of choice to cater for all tastes & the sister pub in Lacock had good reviews. However, the standard of cooking was very lacking & the menu was clearly beyond the chefs ability. Keep it to well cooked pub food if you cannot deliver your current menu to the standard it requires. Real shame as it's our local & a lovely village pub. Let's hope the constructive feedback we gave helps drive in the right direction Onwards & upwards...we wish you luck

We've visited this pub several times over the past few years but this was our first visit with the present owners. Arrived soon after 12 and surprised to find we were the only customers (unusual in our experience). We had a friendly greeting and had a choice of tables. First glance at the menu told us why it was quiet, prices had risen around 50% with the new owners, choice was rather limited especially as my friend was a vegetarian. The food was good but I would question the value for money. I don't think we will be making a return visit

My wife and I have just returned from visiting the Royal Oak, and had a fantastic mid-week evening meal. We received a friendly and authentic welcome, and were informed that the premises had only been under the new owners for the past 7 days. The menu is well thought out, had enough variety and complimented the wine list. Looking for a quick bite to eat, we chose Hake with new potatoes, chorizo and samphire, and also a home made burger with bacon, cheese and gherkins with a side of home made coleslaw and chips. Both mains were delicious, and so was dessert of a gluten free chocolate brownie with banana and peanut twist, washed down with a tasty and smooth bottle of Spanish organic wine. All reasonably priced, and with great attentive service. With the loss of the Cedar Hotel (Chalford House), the Snooty Fox (Warminster) amongst others over recent years, fingers crossed the Royal Oak will transition triumphantly through its opening period providing Westbury residents a decent place to eat and drink for the future.

I have written a few reviews about the Royal Oak since we moved to the area 7 years ago. Always consistently friendly with great food. This was our first time back since they've re-opened and what a disappointment. With the car park almost empty we were a little concerned that it was still closed. However we were welcomed in and the service was fast and good. It was only a light lunch so we ordered Garlic Breaded Mushrooms with 2 Beef, Rocket and Horseradish sandwiches, a pint of beer and a white wine. The mushrooms were lovely and hot but we could hardly taste any garlic whatsoever. They had run out of rocket so one of us had lettuce and one didn't and they remembered our order, so that wasn't an issue. The beef was tough and couldn't be bitten but had to be cut with a knife before chewing - as my favourite meat this had never been a problem here in the past. The beer (Pirate) was unpleasant according to my husband and my wine (albeit inexpensive when we got the bill) also tasted cheap and nasty. We were asked at the table how the meal was and I said the beef was tough (could only manage half - the rest brought home for the dog!). My husband was also asked when he went to pay and reiterated our issues. They did apologise but sadly we won't be back and will take our custom elsewhere in the future.

We were very impressed with the member of staff who welcomed us, ensured we did all T&T stuff, took us to a table abd then took our drinks order. That guy was fab! Informative, chatty, and made us feel welcome. The restaurant was clean, well spaced and they had good safety signage. Another member of staff brought out our food. She was... Much less cheery... (polite way of putting it). The food itself was very well presented, hot, decent portions and tasted good. We both had pies and likes that they still gave us a jug of gravy to use if we wished. Big bonus for us. We ordered desserts too. They were also very tasty and a decent size. Good value for money. Our son had a whippy icecream and that was delicious. They also have a really good selection of soft scoop flavours. Be warned though it may contain ingredients not listed - Eg my banana and chocolate contained random pecans. They do state to inform them of intolerances and we do agree it was our mistake for ordering that hence not making a fuss about it. But... Had we asked the waitress she said herself she'd have said no because she didnt realise they had bought a different icecream this time. At the end of the meal we went to pay. The lady then approached the member of staff doing our bill to inform him of why we didnt eat one of the scoops of icecream wed paid for but he told her tough it was the customers fault. We were grateful she did this and recognised it. Our point is fair enough have that strict rule but if thats the case inform your staff of whats in the products regularly and perhaps make sure they point it out to the customer at some point when they are ordering. Also some people just dobt like certain flavours so maybe add more info to the menu - banana and chocolate doesnt usually mean banana and pecans. Most importantly have respect for one another especially in front of a customer. This last few minutes was a big negative point for us after what had been a really decent afternoon together. Overall a good meal and we enjoyed most of the service too. Hopefully the little parts of odd service were just an off day as we all have those We would return and recommend it to others.

Stayed for a week in Westbury to get away from the working from home environment. When away, we tend to alternate between eating in and eating out and we chose The Royal Oak for our final meal eat as it was rated number 1 restaurant in Westbury. We have eaten out 4 times and, for us, The Royal Oak fell well short compared to other places. We both had a roast as this was, based on reviews, excellent. Not sure who reviewed them though. The lamb I had was overcooked, the potatoes were, at best, Aunt Bessies frozen. We had 2 Yorkshire puddings each. All 4 were identical, again Aunt Bessies. We had stuffing balls - you guessed it, Aunt Bessies.. veg looked like and tasted like it was cooked earlier in the day or week and reheated. We ate at Thai Orchid - twice and Cinnamon Lounge. Both were far better meals and atmosphere. Don’t usually post reviews, but felt in this instance I had to. Will be posting reviews for the other restaurants we visited.

No one approached us so we got up and went to pay. Asked why we were leaving as we were entitled to a sweet under the fish and chip deal and when we told them why. They did not have a good answer so paid up and left.

I realise the Pub has to follow a strict order regarding to allergies, but since the pub is staying open 7 days a week and just before it started that, the food standard changed. We use to love to go over for a Roast Dinner, but they've changed alot, the gravy isn't as good as it use to be, its got a twang and its not a good one either. It is more onion flavoured based, luckily it doesn't upset me, but the flavour isn't good. The consistency of the Roast dinners used to be first class, but the meat has changed too, It's either tough and dried out, or its non existent. Both of us experienced this one day we went in. So, since then we have had a bar meal, which i can't fault at all.So, just need to change that gravy back to your old supplier and your Roast dinners hopefully will return to be fab once again. Othewise I advise others to stay clear of them.

We went yesterday to Royal Oak and it didnt disappoint us again... I had a gorgeous chicken burger with perfect fries and my husband ordered the beef pie...that was fantastic, I couldn't focus on my burger, which was great and very tasty, as the pie looked, smelled and tasted not from this worldFantastic signature Royal Oak pie

We've only just discovered this little gem despite living a few miles away for many years !The food really was exceptionnally good. I would particularly recommend the Mushroom and Halloumi burger and the Tarte Tatin. I've definitely never tasted such delicious chips ! The prices were very reasonable and we appreciated the fact that smaller portions were proposed on the menu for those with smaller appetites. An added bonus is that all the members of staff were absolutely delightful, friendly and helpful and very careful to check out any possible food allergies. I would recommend this pub without any hesitation and I'll definitely be going back as soon as I can.

Having been to this pub plenty of times and always had a pretty good meal there and also had our xmas work meal here for the last few years so we were expecting a good night. Thought The xmas menu was a little dull when we preorder , but meal was all booked so we went with the flow. Well ,we had all preordered our meals (19 of us ) well in advance, off the christmas menu.First thing we were told when we arrived on the night was , we have no soufflés for starters , we did not order enough and we have run out , (so not homemade in the pub then ! )Why have you ran out ,we pre-ordered ? Not impressedSo everybody that had ordered the soufflés had to chose something else off the menu. The food itself was ok , plenty of veg and it was hot , most had roast . The meal felt like it was very rushed, as soon as we have finish one corse the next one was down. Would have liked abit of time between course to let food go down and to be able to chat. Maybe because it was a Sunday evening and they all wanted to go home early .Last orders was called at. 9:30 We were asked to leave the pub At 9.55 because they were shutting at 10 even though we had nearly full drinks still So we had to drink up and leave. Pub has seem to have lost its atmosphere. Sorry Royal Oak but Felt disappointed this year.

We attended the Royal Oak for our works xmas meal for the 3rd yr on the trot, we have always rebooked after each meal as it has always been great, fabulous food, amazing service, not rushed, that is until this yr!!! The food was still good, however they had run out of some starters & people had to order other things from the menu which I found odd as we pre booked weeks ago!!!! The food was hot & very nice but as soon as our knife & fork went on the plate the next course was on it's way out,no time for the previous course to go down or for chatting, which is the whole point of getting together, I'm not sure how but they managed to do 3 courses for 22 people in just over 1hr 20mins!!! It is with a heavy heart but we may have to look for somewhere else next yr.

Took a group of 18 for Sunday lunch. Pub is nicely tucked away from the main road with a large car park. Pub is bright and warm. Comfortably seated us on one table. Lots of menu options - we all ate something different but the meals came out as close together as we could expect and were good quality, tasty food. Good to offer smaller portions for the roasts for those that wanted them.

Absolutely terrible service today. Me and my family enjoyed our meals, not an issue with the food. But when has it become acceptable to slam the entrance door and swear about how much you hate working here. Oh and that wasn’t the worse bit.. we really enjoyed hearing the staff arguing and allegedly “assaulting” each other to which point the police had to arrive and we all had to leave. Absolutely awful. Everyone had to listen to you shouting and swearing at each other and then be told to get out of the pub. The 3 lovely young waitresses were so shocked and embarrassed I felt the need to reassure them that this isn’t acceptable from their employers. I will not be returning.

Visited the Oak today Sunday 15th September, sat in the garden to look forward to a lovely family Sunday roast. 15 mins into having a drink in the garden and a family fight broke out in the kitchen.... Police called and everyone asked to leave the pud. Luckily we hadn't ordered but felt for the families who had just started to eat their food and asked to leave mid way through. Disgraceful

We use trip advisor customer feedback regularly to help us decide where to dine and as we both fancied gourmet burgers we decided to visit the Royal Oak on a summers evening. We both opted for the Stilton Burger. When our food turned up we looked at each other as the chips were such a small portion we thought they must of ran out and when tasted they were just like the nasty chips you would buy from a low cost supermarket. The burgers were totally ruined by far too much Stilton as that’s all you could taste. The bottom half of the bun was stale and the meals looked nothing like photos posted on website. Perhaps a stand in chef , run out of produce or a bad day but we won’t be returning. Poor value for money and terrible quality. The poster on the outside of the public house stating hidden gem wants to be changed in our opinion to there’s a reason why we are hidden.

We were camping nearby and searched nearby pubs online and on Trip Advisor and settled on this - we were so glad we did! Lovely welcome from the lady behind the bar. We ordered drinks and sat outside to look at the menus. Really nice garden with play area and we were joined by Alpacas, sheep and goats in the field behind, which my children loved. Lots of choice on the menu and everything we ordered was delicious. If we were in the area again we would definitely return.

Won’t be back - coffee ok but woeful miserable staff. A smile, a bit of engagement, even eye contact makes a difference - you want to feel welcome rather than an intruder. Surely when money is tight places realise they might have to go that bit extra to encourage people to go back.

Website showed great promise. Kerbside appeal good, car parking good, service very good ( very helpful and friendly). Strange layout inside as its old building, dining room has no bar. Garden not used to its full potential, only very old tired play equipment for children. Food reasonable, 2 out of 3 meals okay. Third meal of chicken disappointing, either poor quality meat or overcooked or possibly both !!!!! Empty on a nice sunny lunchtime !!! Sorry but would not rush back.
