Came here as my friend had hired the private function space for their birthday party and we had a fantastic time, the space is beautiful, the food was delicious and fantastic portions and the staff who were working the bar were so friendly and helpful. I will certainly be returning as I have heard great things about their Sunday roasts!

Came for a light dinner and drinks early evening. There was a group of selfish parents who were friends, and who just let their kids off the leash in the beer garden. Running amok, screaming and play fighting around all the tables of the other customers. They didn’t care, and the staff were too weak to deal with it. A shame. We had to leave early as just couldn’t hear each other talking properly due to the screams. Menu is good, in that it is simple and short. Food is good, nothing special. Excellent range of beers. Just don’t expect support from the management, so make sure you check whether any entitled parents have their children with them.

Would have been more stars but they didn't have the menu options advertised! It would have been great if they could have let us know before we had sat down and ordered drinks, especially as it was out first date anniversary. The fish wasn't available and then my second choice wasn't available and when we resorted to a mix of starters and sides, one of our starters wasn't available either. :/ not great. That being side the sides, broccoli and sweet potato fries, and starters, soup and chicken bites, were nice. Shame me and the other half got ill later in the night, hope it was unrelated because honestly the food was tasty. Drink selection is really good which is why we went here for our first date in the first place,.over a year ago. Atmosphere was lovely, not too crowded and the whole place was lovely and chrismassy. So ups and downs. Would still come here again though, because it's normally much better!

Previously had lunch at this place and was very impressed, decided to go back with the family for a roast, all I can say was how delicious every single item was, there were 6 of us and each and every plate was finished, even the children. Would highly recommend, prices were very reasonable for what we had, food was great quality and piping hot, staff very attentive and helpful, lovely Sunday roast.

Went for Sunday lunch. Aside from the considerable wait, no one was impressed with their meals, which were on the expensive side. Roast potatoes that varied between mushy and rock solid. Veg that was lukewarm compared to the piping hot main. The sweet potato Wellington was just mashed sweet potato in batter without the pate/ duxelles inner lining that gives a Wellington all its flavour. Staff were friendly and atmosphere was nice but food was lacking.

Inadvertently booked at the premier League final...but we arrived beforehand so it was relatively chill when we got there. Food menu was very very limited because of the football which was a shame. Wine (house) was delicious and not too expensive so that's always a plus. Food (burger) was a good size but could have done with another side. The haddock looked much more impressive. Lovely homely atmosphere and the staff were really friendly

Myself and my wife came down for comedy night. I had the fish cake and she had the flat iron steak. Both were exceptional especially for how busy the pub was. Our waitress was fantastic and very knowledgeable. The recommendations for the Malbec and the Pinot to match with our meals was very much appreciated. We have already booked our table to see Tim Vine in July and are looking forward to another great evening and even better food. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Either it was an off-night or this place has seriously gone downhill. One untrained waitress was in charge of part of the bar and the dining room. Four of us were given one menu so we collected the menus from other tables. One of us was vegetarian but they were out of all but one option and the kitchen was not accommodating in any way by at least offering a salad or an omelette as we were the only diners there. The wine was left at the table without being opened, then, eventually the waitress struggled with the corkscrew and we helped her to open the bottle but had to pour ourselves. No big deal and she was a nice person but it started to add up. The food arrived all at the same time, starters and mains. Perhaps the last straw but we were hungry and just got on with it. This used to be a great pub with a much more interesting menu than we had lat night, competent staff and a good atmosphere. Incidentally and to be fair, the food we had was tasty and well prepared but I wouldn't visit again in a hurry or indeed recommend the place.

We were visiting my daughter who is at Kingston uni, and I also new the oak from when my grandparents lived in the area, so we thought we would give it a try for lunch. When we turned up it wasn’t that busy but it was 2.30pm so to be expected, we found a lovely table clean and nicely set out. The owner/manager was very helpful and took our drinks order. I had the Kingston IPA (very good pint) we placed our order so two deep fried brie nuggets with truffle mayonnaise and I ordered the beetroot and goats cheese salad. Both came out well presented on the plates and just enough for starter. The nuggets were eaten in seconds and absolutely delicious so I was told and my salad was amazing beautiful beetroot and goats cheese with what looked like pearl barely which gave it added crunch another empty plate. I’m not a veggie but when I see a cauliflower tikka masala on the menu I thought I’d give it a try, and it did not disappoint with lovely jasmine rice and mild mint sauce it tasted lovely just enough spice to give it the warmth it needed. So my partner had the burger and again served as it should be fully loaded and in a perfectly toasted brioche bun and good fry’s to go with it. Step daughter had the fish and chips biggest piece of fish I’ve seen lovely crunchy batter and what looked like homemade tarter sauce and again good fry’s, we didn’t have a sweet as we were to full. I would highly recommend trying this gem in new Malden if your passing through I know we will definitely be back.

Far too often these days pubs focus on food and forget that running a top quality cellar and keeping lines clean and beer in good order is just as important. Luke and Ryan keep an excellent cellar and the beer is always crisp and clean whether first drop or last one of the day. An art form not usually appreciated enough today, it's not the cheapest, but is one of the best around.

I walked in because I noticed they had decided to get the TV screens back in (they took them out forcing customers like me to find somewhere else to watch now a year later they put them back in again) and stood at the bar for a couple of minutes, the staff just talked amongst themselves, not even bothered to acknowledge me, so I walked out again. Surely they should care if a customer comes in and at least smile and make eye contact, but no, seems what they are saying to themselves is more important.

I’ve always really enjoyed the roasts here, and to be fair the meat is always great although you do feel a bit short changed with three potatoes, three bits of carrots and a leaf of cabbage. Since the chefs changed I must say quality and quantity has declined. The one thing that constantly infuriates me is the mark up, for £15 (minimum for a meat roast) you’d expect more and the gravy is always extremely thin. Most irritatingly of all the cauliflower cheese HAS NO CHEESE IN IT- at least not any normal human could taste. You’re paying £6 for half a cauliflower in white sauce. Stop taking the mick, put some cheese in and give people what they’re paying for. Before a response of “there was no food complaint on the day” it’s hard to comment when the bar maids are too busy eating potatoes behind the bar, chatting and ignoring anyone not in the restaurant to ask how the meal was. Left 30 mins after finishing and still no ones come over to clear the plates (There was one table in the restaurant) disappointing. Rename cauliflower cheese to just cauliflower.

This weekend enjoyed a delicious Shepards Pie with a friend and then came back with a group for our planned Sunday Roast. Always delicious! My biggest problem with the Roasts at the Oak is... always being torn between the Pork and the Beef... The Oaks rise has meant I no longer go to Norbiton to find a decent Roast! We visited last night with some friends who had come to visit us from Newbury. The transformation is excellent with the new layout and food. I had been a fan of the Glasshouse with it being my pub of choice but due to the recent changes there I think my allegiance will now lie with the Royal Oak. The new menu surpasses any of the pubs currently in New Malden so the Chef is to be congratulated. The staff are all very cheerful and the dog friendly area is definitely welcomed. Lower points for atmosphere. Perhaps it is better in summer with the garden, but when I've been its always empty with the usual old men at the bar. New Malden is really missing a great pub. Food looked like your typical older style pub food.

Very cosy local pub about 5 mins from New Malden station. Friendly bar staff and lovely live music on Thursdays! Had the chilli fries which hit the spot!

Went for Sunday lunch here - just for a change. We both order the steak. We waited for 50, yes 50 mins for this meal to arrive. After 40 mins I went and asked why it was taking so long as they weren't busy and thought that there may of been a problem.

This is a quintessentially English pub with a classic beer garden and fantastic real ale (abbot today) enjoyed my pints and I'll be back for more very soon with friends...thirsty ones.

The Royal Oak is my local pub and I am delighted that the garden is back to its best this year. Me and my family visit often and are always welcomed by the lovely bar staff, the bouncy castle on a Sunday is a massive plus my children love it. I am looking forward to spending the rest of the summer with friends and family here.

Never have I seen such fantastic atmosphere in a pub and I expect this pub will continue with a great sport following. No less than seven servers behind the bar and people constantly collecting glasses. My group and I had a bad experience for the Panama game in Kingston with plastic glasses and throwing of drinks at each goal. However the Royal Oak had clearly planned properly, we even got our burgers within ten minutes of ordering. Thanks again for the great few games and I’m glad I could show my appreciation in this way.

I first came to the Royal Oak after the refurbishment and have now made it my local pub of first choice. The atmosphere is always that of a friendly family pub, the food on offer is of good pub grub standard and they change the menu from time to time, especially for sporting events. Service is always with a smile from all the staff, making a special mention to Kirsty who is always friendly and has excellent knowledge of what the Oak has to offer.

This is a mixed review as I asked if the veg were frozen given the recent scandal in the press with listeria. I was told it was fresh veg. I can assure you it wasn’t fresh veg. The jam roly poly was dry and flavourless.

Great garden in summer. Large pub serving ok food. Room upstairs does comedy, etc to an audience of 200. Good pub atmosphere. Area to avoid kids!

The Royal Oak is our local and I would really like to like it more. Following a refurbishment a couple of years ago the interior is pleasant and welcoming, and there is a good atmosphere. The food is mediocre - the kind of stuff that gives pub grub a bad name. But the thing that really puts me off is the thoroughly unfriendly welcome which clearly comes from the manager and is shared by many (though not all) of the staff. During our last visit they seemed to delight in not being able to provide what we wanted. No, we've run out of tequila. No, we don't have any more Sauvignon. No, you can't book a table as we're very busy tonight. (We turned up anyway, and they weren't.) No, we won't serveshots. There isn't exactly a surfeit of good pubs in New Malden, but even so I won't be coming back here.

Lovely place with lots of choice for breakfast, all made to order. Son loved the hot chocolate - would have sat there drinking it all day if he could.
