Great pub, nice atmosphere, good selection on tap, little car park at rear 👍

If I could give no stars I would. I went here with my partner our 2yr old and his parents. Walked in at lunch time on a Saturday and it was totally dead, cold and smelly. The floor was so sticky like it hadn’t been mopped properly for a long time. We’d booked a table and they had set it for us but when we sat down it was covered in beer and food! The menus were covered in beer and food and everything by was filthy. I asked for the table to be cleaned and pointed out the broken glass on the floor. The server looked at the broken glass then just left it there! There were so many staff and barely any customers. Most of the clientele consisted of single middle aged men drinking on their own. There were several massive to screens playing sports which was totally overkill for such a small pub. A good sized eating area and beer garden were completely empty and very rough looking. The food was very disappointing given the price and did not at all make up for the fact that the pub was filthy. I asked for a kids mac and cheese and they said they didn’t have any but could do an adults one! We all laughed at how ridiculous that was and paid full price just so we could eat and leave as soon as possible. The adult portion itself wasn’t even enough for my toddler it was so tiny! I had a lasagne which was tiny and had virtually no meat in it. Others had baguettes which were massively overpriced for what they were. The garlic bread was obviously frozen and the food in general was very small and substandard for the price - the whole experience, and the food, was a huge disappointment to our entire party who had been here once before some years ago for Christmas dinner and it was lovely - has obviously changed management since then. Not sure what else there is in Thornbury these days but def don’t waste your time or money here!

Really great evening at The George ... we were celebrating a birthday and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. The buffet was excellent and plentiful. Highly recommended.

The meal was delicious and the portion size was generous. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

Beautiful Roast Dinner Done to perfection

Celebrated my sons 18th birthday at the George for Sunday dinner. The food was fantastic and the portion sizes are huge. The staff were amazing and will definitely be returning.

Excellent pub for dining, drinking and socialising with good decor and atmosphere. Family welcome with very good friendly and efficient service.

Visited yesterday with family. The service was good and our (booked) table was tucked away at the back which was nice as we had plenty of room. The usual pub grub was on the menu and meals were served fairly quick. Would have given 5 stars, but main meals were quite small portions. I regularly eat out at pubs all over the UK so am seasoned enough to make this comparison. Everything else was great though.

Great atmosphere and very attentive staff (Imogen, emmie, Callum and Lilly), went in for a Sunday lunch with the grandparents and we all thought it was exceptional, thanks again everyone for the experience and we will definitely be coming again.

The Royal George is a cool little pub in the small town of Thornbury. We dropped in for Sunday Roast while staying at Thornbury Castle and had a great lunch. Food is delicious and staff are very nice. Very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Had several times Sunday Roast which was very delicious and generous portions. Some of the stuff (some young members) would benefit of a bit of customer care service, they were ignorant almost rude. However, the rest of the stuff really nice and helpful. Nice atmosphere, good location, dog allowed.

Great Sunday lunch yesterday at the Royal George, between us we had the roast beef and roast pork lunches which were excellent, the veg perfectly cooked and presented. The crumble of the day was excellent, piping hot with custard that looked and tasted like custard (not the warm coloured milk that I’ve had in other establishments). Oh and the beer was good down to the last drop. We were well looked after by Imogen and the team – well done good people, we’ll be back.

Food was ok however the service was not great the mains came out at different times and the desserts also the apple crumbles would of been cold by the time the chocolate brownies came out. They blamed it on a freezer malfunction We had to go and ask for the brownies as in had been 20 mins since ordering and the crumbles had come after 10 mins If you like your food cold this is the place to come It’s a shame as it is a lovely place

I had Sunday lunch here today with my son and daughter-in-law.Excellent ! Imogen and rest of staff very friendly. Will be visiting again soon.

First time in there last monday we had food pie was fantastic really tasty really friendly staff great service would recommend 👌

Went there for a few times now and can say that it is a lovely pub with great food. Service was a little slow at times, but it is understandable as it does get busy. Would recommend 👌

Haven’t been for ages so decided to pop in for a Sunday roast. Was delighted. The food was amazing! Definitely be back. Imogen, Nancy and Rudi were very friendly and welcoming. The only downside was the grumpy customers the poor staff had to put up with! Can’t believe the moaning people. Best one I heard was, “the sun is in my kids eyes”. Okay the staff will just pop out and move the sun for you 🙄

The service was very good, the food was not very good, I ordered beef SundayRoast and the meat was not very good, it should be improved.

Caught up with a friend here this evening. We had a couple of drinks and some food. The staff were all really lovely and the food was great. The pub was really pleasant to be in and it has a nice atmosphere. We'll definitely go back at some point. Thanks!

Without a doubt, one of the best pubs you could go to in Thornbury! Maz/Gaz & the team do a cracking job making you feel welcomed! They have all sorts of alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages to please any customer that comes through the door. And the menu… Don’t get me started! The food is banging! Well worth having! The Royal George has a great range of food too! What ever dietary’s you have. The Royal George can cater for you! Highly recommend!!!

Enjoyed a lovely evening with friends on Friday the 3 course menu, great choice and value. Came back for Sunday lunch today as it was recommended and it certainly didn't disappoint. Well done to the team and compliments to the Chef 👩‍🍳 👏

Food was good and seems good value but beware of added extras. Extra charge for pint of coke when free soft drink offered with meal, extra for sweet potato chips (probably both somewhere on menu but wasnt informed when given options when ordering). And felt £3.35 for half a pint of lemonade was a bit much!

First visit to this pub. First of all the pub is beautiful inside and out. We were greeted by a friendly bar maid who gave us menus. Ordered two meals from the ‘classic’ section of the menu but barmaid couldn’t find the items on the electronic ordering system so said we couldnt order them which meant we then had to order other items from the menu which was disappointing. Alternatives were fine for the money (mash not great!). Shame there was such a mess up with the food we ordered as if theres a new menu in place they should ensure everything from the menu can be ordered to save disappointed to the customer. Again - beautiful pub with open fire and would definitely visit again but please get your ordering system right!

Went for a birthday lunch celebration. Stuck upstairs on our own service poor. Fod very poor - they had run out of pork crackling to go with the roast but didnt tell us until the food arrived - the excuse was that they had been busy!!! No apology really or discount! Didnt seem very happy when we didnt leave a tip - shame. Beware about going as they didnt have a clue!!

Lovely pub, super tasty and generous roast dinner (free top ups of potatoes, gravy & yorkies too!). Imogen looked after us and was very friendly/helpful. First time at this pub, will definitely be returning in future. Great atmosphere and fun festive decor, couldn't ask for more really! :)

Always a lovely welcome from Maz & Gareth & they are always going the extra mile to keep their customers happy, the Sunday lunch is absolutely amazing with extra roast potatoes & Yorkshire’s if you can fit them in ! The food in the week is always excellent too - there is always something going on as well such as party nights & drinks offers - Also dog friendly too - cannot recommend enough

Really great pub with an excellent range of very affordable food, which tastes great. The staff are super friendly and helpful and there's a fun atmosphere. There are limited parking spaces in it's private car park but loads of free local parking nearby. Would recommend to anyone looking for something in the area. Also dog friendly!

I just edited my review.. finally ,my steak is good.. I understand chef where rush to go home last time.when they did microwave my steak. All good, sausages nice,great food, good quality. Well done guyz.

We had the sirloin Sunday roast. It was delicious! The only mistake we made was having a starter, we had mushroom bruschetta and mango and chilli chicken salad, again.... both were so full of flavour and delicious..... however the roast dinners were huge and you get free top ups on the roasters, Yorkshires and gravy (not that you need them as portion size is already more than enough!) Our server Imogen was amazing too! 😄

We had a lovely Sunday roast, a good choice on the menu, the meal was more than ample, with top ups if you wanted, at no extra charge, nice atmosphere in the pub, the staff are great, and friendly ,the cost was very competitive. Good choice of drinks, easy access, outside eating area also, shame no parking at the moment ,but plenty in the area in Thornbury. Well done to all.

Dropped in for a pint and a bite. Super hospitable staff. And was hungry for a really good burger and was not disappointed. Highly recommend.

Waitress Emmie was very attentive, friendly, bubbly young lady and an asset to the team. Only down side was quiz wasn’t working again.

Firday night is not a good time to visit adlest there is a party or football in tv I went on Friday and there wasn't much choice of alcohol (bottled ) ; tables sticky from previous visitors; pint glass not picked ( maybe if we said to the staff to pick it they would ) . Overall score 3 out of 5 on a Friday sorry .
