We had a lobster bisque starter, followed by an incredible beef wellington. Wild berries and ground ginger to finish. We treated ourselves to a bottle of 1983 Dom Perignon, Premier Cru. An incredible experience, would highly recommend this establishment.

Filton Feast Ive seen this Cafe many times but never managed to stop and sample their wares, primarily because its so difficult to get to, being right on the junction of Filton Avenue and  Station Road. You have to take a left just after Mackie Road and go around behind the cafe to the parking area at the front. Its a bit complicated and Im sure it puts some people off. However, I was hungry and I hadn’t had a proper Fat Boys Breakfast for the last three months. I’ve been living in Spain, where they do offer Full English or some times a Full Irish, but its not always that good. I tend to save myself for when I get home. There isn’t much to look forward to back in dear old Blighty but a good fry up is one of them. So i found myself driving down Filton Avenue, so it was fate that took me to the Filton Feast. The venue is a bit spartan though it is probably a typical greasy spoon with lots of Formica, stainless steel counters and sadly a selection of Low end news paper There were plenty of Empty tables as there was only one other couple eating. The staff were juggling managing the shop and looking after a young girl who was obviously bored. The Menu was on the wall behind the counter and there were three different Full Breakfast options, as well as some other variations. On a board by the side of the counter there were some special items that appear to be a lunchtime menu though I ignored them in favour of a Fry up. When I gave my order I asked for extra Bread and butter but this never materialised and to be fair, they didn’t charge for it so I guess they just didn’t hear me. I decided (as this was my first Full Brekkie in ages) to go for the medium at £5.5o including Tea. I could chose between Tomatoes and Beans and fried bread or Toast and I chose the latter which came already buttered (it may have been Marg) on the side of my plate which i dislike as the toast gets soggy. However, when the meal came it looked reasonable enough. Sausages were the usual commercial brand with little or no flavour and they had been (I think) deep fried. The Bacon tasted surprisingly good given it had been pre-cooked and reheated (it kind of dries out when you do that and the fat is crispy which isn’t too bad). There was a larger than normal portion of Baked beans which filled the plate and gave the impression of a larger meal and the mushrooms had started out as fresh but were soaked in fat as they had been deep fried. The salt, pepper and sauces were on the table but they look like they had been thrown there from a distance, they weren’t arranged neatly, but they all worked. My tea which came from a machine was only lukewarm and they left the tea bag in the Mug, which is fine but they didn’t provide a saucer so I had nowhere to put the soggy ‘T’ bag when i removed it. I was forced to go up to the counter and get a serviette to wrap the bag in. All a bit messy. No one asked me if my food was alright (they missed a trick as i would have ordered more Tea) and the staff seemed preoccupied with domestic chores of keeping the young lady busy and, annoyingly, Sweeping the floor whilst i was eating. Sadly this wasn’t a great Breakfast experience. It shouldn’t be too difficult to serve up a Fried Breakfast. It doesn’t have to be posh or pretentious but you do have to get the basics right.

Popped in for breakfast on a whim really, and what a treat! My daughter & I had a cooked breakfast each (medium & large) and they were fabulous. Food was fresh, bacon was crispy and the tea, well put it this way, the first cuppa didn't even touch the sides ..... so went back for another!! I thought it was great value for money too!! Lovely people and lovely food - 10/10 from me. Huge love n hugs xxx Paula xxx

Walked in the pub where the owner/landlady was smoking outside. Not a great first impression. Went in to be told they were only doing roasts. At 1.15 they only had 2 chicken left. We ordered and sat out side with our drinks. The waitress called us in to a very empty restaurant area where are meals were on the table. Lots of roast potatoes and some meat. We asked when veg was coming out to be told the had run out of veg the night before!!!!! We couldn’t believe it! We told them we didn’t want it. The landlady/owner did offer us to take meals free of charge but that wasn’t the point. We have been before but the fantastic chef they had has left! We’ll never go back. Needs a complete revamp and new chef!

Can be good and always generous portions, but the problem is, the chips are variable. I've had well cooked, hot crispy chips as good as any chip shop some visits, but other times, including most recent visit, they are anaemic, cooked but only just, and not very warm. Updated.. family wanted chips so doubts aside I ordered online and collected, they had cold hard raw centres. I feel like I want to ask to see them before ordering!

Had our golf society Christmas event here , breakfast was good, lack of seating was an issue as we were quite a big group. With the weather we had experienced recently course was very wet as to be expected, greens were good though. However a couple of poor points about the day, only 2 showers available in changing room, we expected as there were 25 of us to have a separate eating area as we have had previously, we were spread out in the general bar area and due to a wedding taking place upstairs, just as our desserts came out the wedding party descended back in bar area. We were then asked to go over to the games room ( which we had enquired about ) but really this was to get us out of the way of wedding party. This meant when we wanted drinks we had to brave the wind and rain back to main clubhouse . Games room was really good though and we held our end of year presentation in this room too. The quality of the Christmas lunch was very good and overall staff were great.

An authentic, un-reconstructed village local. Much the same as it must have been in your grandads time. Small, intimate bar area with nice roaring fire when I was there. So very welcoming. Didn't look at the menu, but reasonable range of toppled. Butcombe only ale on tap, but in good condition. Need to drop in if your passing and get a flavour of old Olveston and residents.
