An authentic, un-reconstructed village local. Much the same as it must have been in your grandads time. Small, intimate bar area with nice roaring fire when I was there. So very welcoming. Didn't look at the menu, but reasonable range of toppled. Butcombe only ale on tap, but in good condition. Need to drop in if your passing and get a flavour of old Olveston and residents.

It's a lovely old pub in the process of being regenerated by its new manager. The outside space is modern and well appointed. Inside is like stepping back in time, most delightful in the colder months. Pluss it has skittles!

I will have to visit again and try some food. This visit was following a funeral, ie wake, so not really the best of circumstances to judge the pub, but the place was welcoming and had a lovely fire burning, which was most welcome, having just gotten soaked by the grave side in our wonderful spring weather. Average choice of beers and ciders. Disappointed they couldn't fulfill a specialist coffee, even though they had a machine behind the bar. Parking is an issue though, with no car park and very limited spaces on the narrow road

Popped along for evening meal on a Friday evening only to find no food, no chef, no luck. The skittle alley, fish tank and dog-friendly policy make it a welcoming watering hole for locals to bask in the evening sun to compare the day's golfing handicaps.

Although the place and staff made my experience comfortable and easy going, the steak was of poor quality. I put this down to the quality of the produce rather than the quality of cooking. I will be going again.

It generally has a warm and friendly country atmosphere. This time of year most years I get together 12 - 20 friends and book the skittle alley for the evening. As there's no fee for the skittle alley it's only fair we all buy drinks. After all the pub is a business and important to village life. I've always found the staff here friendly and courteous. That was until last night ! A man (presumably the owner) spoke to me in a VERY offhand manner. While I understood his point the manner in which he expressed it does not make for good customer relations !!! If he is reading this I suggest next time he gets his bar staff to relay the message as they are far more personable. Hence only ⭐⭐⭐

Friendly service, excellent food (though I would have liked some crackling with my roast pork! But otherwise the roast was delicious) and a nice atmosphere. Definitely recommend. It would be nice to see some extra high chairs about though if we are to come again.

This was the worst Sunday lunch I have had I a longtime. The service was begrudged, the food took more than an hour to arrive and then it was the wrong meat, the re was no offer of sauces, so no mint sauce, no gravy for Yorkshire puddings and the food was tepid at best. The staff had the wrong attitude, ne was heard to f--- thus as she walked away from another complaining customer who had returned food as inedible. Our first and last visit.

Can only echo what has been said already. If you want to show visitors what an English country pub is, this is it. A large pub but the bar area was obviously the local choice with its big log fire and lively skittles (but not obtrusive) match in progress. We were able to enjoy a quiet drink and felt welcomed by landlord and customers alike. Would have liked another choice of beer - Otter and the ubiquitous Doombar were the draught beers on offer. Interested that the food is praised by other reviewers. Food appeared to be on offer but we saw no signs of it. We will return to investigate further.

Walked in the pub where the owner/landlady was smoking outside. Not a great first impression. Went in to be told they were only doing roasts. At 1.15 they only had 2 chicken left. We ordered and sat out side with our drinks. The waitress called us in to a very empty restaurant area where are meals were on the table. Lots of roast potatoes and some meat. We asked when veg was coming out to be told the had run out of veg the night before!!!!! We couldn’t believe it! We told them we didn’t want it. The landlady/owner did offer us to take meals free of charge but that wasn’t the point. We have been before but the fantastic chef they had has left! We’ll never go back. Needs a complete revamp and new chef!

Can be good and always generous portions, but the problem is, the chips are variable. I've had well cooked, hot crispy chips as good as any chip shop some visits, but other times, including most recent visit, they are anaemic, cooked but only just, and not very warm. Updated.. family wanted chips so doubts aside I ordered online and collected, they had cold hard raw centres. I feel like I want to ask to see them before ordering!

Had our golf society Christmas event here , breakfast was good, lack of seating was an issue as we were quite a big group. With the weather we had experienced recently course was very wet as to be expected, greens were good though. However a couple of poor points about the day, only 2 showers available in changing room, we expected as there were 25 of us to have a separate eating area as we have had previously, we were spread out in the general bar area and due to a wedding taking place upstairs, just as our desserts came out the wedding party descended back in bar area. We were then asked to go over to the games room ( which we had enquired about ) but really this was to get us out of the way of wedding party. This meant when we wanted drinks we had to brave the wind and rain back to main clubhouse . Games room was really good though and we held our end of year presentation in this room too. The quality of the Christmas lunch was very good and overall staff were great.
