Royal Fisheries in Calderdale

I recently visited Royal Fisheries, and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The quality and taste of the food have noticeably declined. To make things worse, the prices, especially for the fish, are quite high for what’s being offered. One of the main issues I noticed was the lack of hygiene standards. A staff member was wearing visibly dirty, stained clothes and was handling food without gloves, which raises serious concerns about food safety. Hygiene is essential, and seeing food handled this way makes me worry about potential health risks. The donner machine was also not functioning properly. Instead of operating as it should, the staff had to turn it manually with bare hands, which is far from sanitary. This type of practice is unacceptable in any food establishment, especially one handling high-contact food items. Overall, Royal Fisheries needs to improve its hygiene standards and train its staff to follow basic food safety guidelines. For the prices they charge, customers deserve better quality and cleanliness. Until these issues are addressed, I would hesitate to recommend this place.

Could do with being a lot cleaner.... The food is generally very nice, the fish tastes fresh every time and the staff are always smiling, but you can see over the counter and in to the rear prep area where it just looks a little dirty.

Best Fish and chips in Halifax.

Can't beat the classic Royal Fisheries an all time favourite since childhood. Never fails to disappoint. My first go to place in halifax, the food is always hot, fresh, tasty and made to how you want it.

Loved the food, fast delivery, food still warm on arrival, tasty food. Listened to special instructions of how wanted food too *****

This business really knows how to excel itself in everything it does !! The staff are delightful, more like visiting family than getting a take away !! Be warned, if you're hungry then this truly is the place to go to as the portions are huge so I especially asked for a much smaller one on my second visit. Everything's cooked to order & the staff really put their heart & soul into what they do. The shops spotless as are their uniforms, truly a great frying experience & I couldn't give these guys a higher score if I tried !! A massive thanks to all xx

Good quality fish and chips and burger meals.Friendly helpful staff and good service top marks to the staff and the food is good quality and large portions to feed your whole family.

I want a refund I wanted donner in my chips

Slightly cold on arrival but fish was quality

We ordered a bottle of coke as it was on menu but did not receive the item and still got charged for item no offer of refund

Nasty oily cold chips fish was cold and oily

Food was cold. Burger had cheese in side chips were really dry. The drink was warm

Ordered a spicy keema pastry but got a chicken and veg one which wasnt nice. Their fries are normally really nice but they were filled with fish batter bits, really disappointed. Large donnermeat and chips had more chips than donnermeat.

My order came without chips and no drink

Food was perfect I enjoyed the fish. Chips were bit cold but they was okay curry sauce bit lumpy. But taste amazing

I ordered a 1/2 pound and I was given a 1/4 pounder.

In the past when I have ordered from here the food has been up to standard, but YES A VERY BIG BUT!!!!!!!!! recently the food has been sloppy and my order has been wrong on a numerous of occasions. Not to point out but there maybe a new worker, who's hairless, looks very intimidating and looks mean. He has taken my orders and has always messed it up and when I have confronted him or told him he has made a mistake he has spoken to me in a very aggressive manner! My autistic son told him the food is wrong and there is a small amount of chips. He yelled at him and threatened to charge extra money, which has never been the case. WE NEED HIM FIRED!!!!

Not even worthy of a star! Where do I start? The food is dry, always tastes of cardboard. The staff are very stubborn especially this bald worker who seems to be very aggressive to people smaller in size to him! This is not how customer handling should be. Shameful!

Great masala fish and chips but not worth the 30 minute wait.

Donner has a very unpleasant smell and taste. Normally donner from here is very nice don’t know what they have done today. Very put off from the smell and taste

We usually stop here for a bite to eat when in Yorkshire, Burgers are huge and full of flavor, proper chippy chips too. Very friendly staff. Prices very reasonable for what you get. If you were in the Midlands you'd make a killing. keep it up folks, worth a visit.

Best fish and chips best service

Fish snd chips outstanding mushy peas disappointing.

Food was lovely....only problem was the gravy....both pots were almost set they were that thick and you could taste the powder or granules you used like they hadn't been cooked off properly. Had to make my own....not knocking your stars as I'm assuming it was an honest mistake as I have ordered before x

Can’t go wrong with the Donner meat from here. Tastes great, good portions and piping hot. Always consistent. They always follow order notes too. Great place. Would deffo recommend 👍👍

Hi I ordered on Sunday most items were missing And rest of food was cold and smelled nasty I have been to the take away to management to complain they not available please advise I want a full refund And the driver just left food on doorstep with out knocking to let me my neighbour was parking his car and so it and knocked on door and food was outside for more then 15mins

This takeaway delivers quality food piping hot on arrival and read notes will I order again too right I will!!!!

I would never recommend just eat, their service is completely shambolic, I had ordered a simple meal from royal fisheries, was told it’ll be delivered in 20 minutes, to my experience it had been delivered over an hour late and to the wrong address.. I had contacted royal fisheries to discuss this matter they ensured that they have no information about the driver whatsoever and it was best to contact just eat themselves for a issue of a refund, which I had done. 3 of the colleagues for just eat had disclosed my chat after discussing my matter with them they wouldn’t provide a number from them, they had said to me the information I had provided them was wrong discussing house address whereas I showed them proof. After spending an hour or so trying to issue a refund they had told me it would be between the next 5-7 working days, I found it horrendous the fact they managed to take money out of my account immediately and not refund the money back for me to make a order elsewhere the fact that they don’t ask for no confirmation whilst delivering the food is completely unprofessional as the company itself is. I best recommend using Uber eats instead as it’s true to its time, this will be the first and last time I use this. So for everyone who needs a meal delivered before they arrive back form work etc at a certain time your looking at the wrong company

Every now and then I like to try a new place and this didn't dissapoint food arrived on time and hot which many places can't do portions were substantial will I oder again ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!

Was not disappointed with my order. I got my order exactly when it said unlike most places and my food was hot and very tasty. They were very generous with their sizes, fish was very big and there was loads of chips in the box. Everything tasted very fresh from the fish and chips to the burgers I ordered. Will definitely be ordering again.

I paid £32 including delivery for x2 large fish and chips! There was a half box of chips and a medium fish. When I called to ask, the lady manager said they were the cheapest in Halifax and fish were now expensive! Go for a small fish and chips. The food was tasty though.

Food came hot, the fish and chips are very nice.

They have amazing food here for very cheap prices in my opinion. All the staff are very friendly and the food comes within minutes, the longest I've personally had to wait was a maximum of 10 minutes, and I used to go quite often here.

Went here for lunch as I was working in Halifax for the day. Delicious food and amazing service from the Asian lass on the counter who served me. However, all the staff were welcoming and friendly with all customers, which was really good to experience. Love this place. I would recommend it, and will definitely visit again at some point if in the area. Well done 👍🏽

Royal fisheries... friendly and efficient staff, clean and tidy inside and out. Food is absolutely delicious, you can't fault the food an iota! The fish and chips, pies and keema pasties are a firm favourite. The prices are reasonable not over priced like some places. My local chippy for almost 20 years, and I have tried all the local one's. No one compares to the quality of the food served!

What surprises me is a fish and chips shop that also sells cheese burgers & chicken fillets burgers.... I find that very fishy... oh well there goes my diet out of the window. I must say her work colleage is absolutely hot 😍

Always a great quality food. Has a wide variety to choose from. The staff are always friendly and polite. Been going for years and they have never disappointed. Can't rare them high enough. 10/10.

Do not buy food after 7 as they give old food. The bread was stale and the chips were cold. I was told these were made fresh but that was not the case. Horrible. Fish stinks & customer service is terrible

Burger and chips are fine, fish and chips not that great. I would rather get some fish from Aldi and fry it myself as it tastes better.

Burger is nice and previous staff were fantastic, but sorry to say that the new staff must wear gloves as it is very disgusting to eat from under their fake long nails without gloves, I hope the owner will do an action about the long nails and gloves

Awful food. Complete waste of money. Cheeseburger had a very odd taste. Chicken burger tasted like cardboard. Surprised they are still open. Need to up their game. Won't be going back.

I would give 0 stars if I could, the new management are slow and most importantly the quality of the food has gone downhill. The old owners have left and the new owners are ruining the reputation. Stale food and low quality.

Had some fish and chips yesterday. Always have loved this place even after leaving halifax, i travel 100 miles for their fish and chips.

Foods here is really good, I would recommend fish and chips with Donner - salad and all the sauce on it. Even the burgers are delicious. I Highly recommend you’ll to try this place out. This review itself is making me hungry lol 😆

Such rude staff! Placed an order over the phone and clearly stated I wanted salad and sauces, however when I got the order it was plain. I called her back and she said "bring it over, we're not offering a new one cos it's going to go in the bin". Bearing in mind my order has now gone cold because of their poor hearing skills. When I went back, there were many orders that were also wrong and they were mending all orders in front of me.

Excellent all you can ask for quality there foods seems to be the best in area better than king cross and Queens road it's only competitor used to be yfc but with yfc food often causing food poisoning and causing you to throw it up royal seems to be the superior option if you value your health or want to go for a safe option.
