Royal in North Lincolnshire

A pub can’t that handle being busy and had bad stop the food service, woooow! booked a table for tonight, and we was kindly walked over to the table where we asked where we order food, and was advised that it was at the bar, which is all good. we looked over the menu & went up the bar to be told that they are no longer serving food!! tell me why you told us we can order at the bar and we told the lady that we was ordering food. disappointment is such an understatement.

I come in often to watch the football with my mates. Always a great atmosphere and the service is brilliant. Lewis and Jenny always go above and beyond.

My visit to the royal was 1st class and the food was really nice I will be visiting again and again when visiting my family.zane and the team made us feel very welcome this place deserves a visit if your in the area.

We held my husband's 50th birthday party at the royal hotel. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The manager went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were catered for. The food was excellent and plenty everyone absolutely loved it. I would totally recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to hold an event

Went with family for food and drinks. Told to keep kids sat down or leave, instead of asking nicely was very very rude! More bothered about getting ready for the football rush, instead of concentrating on other customers.

Fantastic food and service. 12 very happy people celebrating a birthday and everyone was more than happy with everything. Nothing is too much trouble for Zane and his team. We visit most week and always made to feel welcome. Well done Zane, keep up the good work.

I had a hospital appointment at Scunthorpe around 1.20pm so we decided that rather than messing around we would have lunch out, not something we normally do on a Sunday. We decided that the closest location was the Royal so we decided to go there. We were there fie noon only to find the doors still locked, and just as we were ready to leave, the manager Zane came out, apologised profusely & explained there had been a leak from one of the bathrooms & that it had caused part of the ceiling to come down. He had clearly been busy cordoning off that area of the dining space and cleaning up. We were quickly seated in another area and ordered our food & drinks, which considering this was a Sunday lunchtime costing under £25 for 2 meals & 2 drinks was a great price. Our meals were served within 15 minutes & were well cooked, hot & very tasty, the lady cooking (I believe was called Jo) had cooked everything perfectly. The manager was very attentive throughout our visit, making us feel very welcome, like long lost friends rather than customers. We will definitely be back.

The food and drink is very reasonable in price. The menu is exciting, lots of twists on American food. Certainly not cordon bleu, but hearty, fun and tasty. The staff were very friendly. We were a large party with children and the staff couldn't be more helpful. We all stayed in the hotel upstairs which again was very well priced. It is basic, but just what we needed.

It's a chain pub yes! However for a member of staff to complain saying it will take him about 30mins to make 20 Jagerbombs as an order is shocking. If you can't handle working in the hospitality industry then don't! Not only that the attitude of staff members to customers is quite poor and treat the customer with no respect or dignity! Please teach your staff in some lessons of how the customer is right...

Went for Lunch with my husband today while shopping & doing a few other jobs in Scunthorpe. Really cannot understand why the place is not absolutely full, the staff are excellent, the Manager Zane cannot do enough to help. Food is well cooked & great value for money, probably the best pub food I have had in Scunthorpe

Terrible place. We were waiting for our breakfast more than hour instead of 15min as was promised. Staff is rude and unkind. When we finally got the breakfast, we found out, that bread and sausages were missing. 5 min later waitress brought bread, but we didn’t see any sausages either..

Went for lunch and was served by a very pleasant man named Jay who was always smiling and gave a 1st class service. Very helpful and chatty, I have been in the Royal a few times and always enjoy Jay's company. One of the best staff members in there

My me my partner and children visited the royal for our tea and were amazed at not only the quality of food, but also the service. We walked in to be greeted by Zain and Jenny. We got served right away 😁 we ordered our meal and sat down and when our food arrived it looked amazing It was Delicious food, and super nice atmosphere. Plus it’s all at an affordable price. Can totally recommend it and will definitely come back again

A really old fashioned and quaint hotel with creaky floorboards with a really modern pub as you would expect with a chain style pub. Unfortunately the hotel part could do with a refurb. The wall paper is cracked with bits nearly hanging off the ceiling. The bed was worn and the mattress was shot which made for a rather uncomfortable night's sleep. Arrived downstairs in the morning for breakfast, which I'd paid for, only to find out that they had not checked if anyone was booked in for breakfast. As a result there was no chef in and no breakfast. They did apologise and issued a refund. I'll give this one a miss next time I'm in the area.

Came In with some friends and was first met by Glenn, who was very professional and polite and helped us with some recommendations on food, Thank you will definitely be back again

Chloe was amazing and looked after us making sure everything was perfect for a girls night out. She always had a smile and nothing was trouble for her. Thank you for such a good night out.

I was down in Scunthorpe for the day to visit a family member but arrived early so popped in a pint and was greeted with a smile at the bar by a young women named Chloe! Will definitely pop in again whenever i'm back in Scunthorpe

Visited on a lunch time as heard they had vegan options on their ‘new’ menu. Ordered the chickpea and sweet potato curry and it was tasty and not too filling. Bit pricey though as it wasn’t a huge portion. It would have not been enough...

Had chicken witg lemon and garlic sauce with sweet potato fries and salad really enjoyed it, husband had fish and chips he said not the best he had bit over done. Rest of party seemed to enjoyed their meals.

Went with friends to have late lunch, we ordered a variety of dishes, well below par, some food was so burnt I'm amazed that the chef allowed it out of the kitchen, surely your reputation is about the food that you cook And serve to customers. My meal was average, not hot, I asked for a portion of mushy peas with my gammon and jacket potato, wouldn't have called it a portion, the food should be so much better than this, we will not be returning, we have seriously given you loads of chances. Even if we tell the staff about it they do not seem really bothered to be fair!!!! Or are they just fed up of the complaints. We met up with some friends as we were leaving, and when we saw them again asked us why we had not told them about the food, as they also complained about the quality and service. It's not the staff who are at fault, they are doing their best, the bar staff were lovely, really chatty and friendly. So would return for drinks

just visited the Royal for sunday lunch, what a disappointment the beef was tough the yorkshire pudding had obviously been heated up in microwave as was tough and rubbery and good not very warm, have had lovely meals in the past here but will not be revisiting again very disappointed

Went to Royal tohave a nice Sunday lunch with my friend after doing afternoon shopping. Ordered drinks told the young man we were going to have food and should I start a tab had my card ready in my hand, he said what food did I want,after saying not sure yet haven’t looked at the menu yet! We found a table which was easy as hardy anyone in the place, when I young man came to us two minutes later and said one of you need to give us your details and card to make payment. I said yeah I’m just coming to order now, when I went to the bar to place the food orders a very stroppy barmaid was very rude saying we’ve been waiting for you cos he can’t process anything until he had a card. I said offered my card earlier and that I’m ordering food now. The barmaid was very aggressive in the manner towards me and said she had a trainee here, I can see that , (he wasn’t sure to give a glass with the J2O my friend had ordered earlier when I asked him for a glass he gave one that had just come out of dishwasher as it was still very hot to touch..) I kept my cool and said I will pay for the drinks and go somewhere else for food and I wouldn’t be coming back. She tried to say no it’s alright it’s just that..................... yeah if that’s how you speak to your customers I’m not surprised the place was nearly empty.

Ccalled for a meal. It was awful to say the he least. The lamb was still frozen would you believe. Carrots like lava, the meal was also cold. We will not visit again.

Typical run down down food establishment that struggles to cope at capacity tried several times never again and not even cheap avoid absolutely rubbish.

Called at the royal for tea to sample the 2 for £10.49 meals.

My wife & I both enjoyed our stay at the Royal. The room was clean & the staff were helpful & friendly. I would definitely book in here again if I'm ever back in the area.

Las habitaciones en el Royal son muy deteriorado, la mía tenía un agujero en la pared patadas! El baño estaba mal equipado, la alcachofa de la ducha no me volvería a alojar y la temperatura del agua era FRÍA o hirviendo o. El pub está bien, poco usual cadena de estilo pub green king, la comida era normal. En la parte positiva, las camas eran muy cómodas y limpias.

Primera visita desde la renovación y me encanta! Interior realmente moderno, parece fresca, limpia y ordenada. Mismo buen relación calidad-precio. Muchas oportunidades para ver deportes si quieres (única crítica sería las luces dangly - Obtener un mal ángulo y tierra justo en el medio de la televisión) fuimos para el habitual hamburguesa y una oferta de comida pinta. Genial tener una variedad de patatas fritas, patatas fritas o grasa delgado batata. Aún así, buena relación calidad-precio, puede agregar una bebida por £1, aunque no en un domingo más. Resto de el menú parecía bueno, con mucha variedad, 2. . . . . . . . Oferta disponible durante la semana más de 2 platos especiales por más de 60. Impresionado, volveremos! !

Visited on 18/11/16 as a spur of the moment thing. I used to work here 5 years ago and it has seriously been neglected since then. The ceilings were rotten, the windows were rotten, we ordered our meals, the chilli nachos came without sauce and we're freezing cold, the mains were delivered and we were told by the waitress "sorry there's no bbq sauce for the burger we are closing next week for a refurb so we didn't order any stock..." baring in mind it was a BBQ burger. Seriously dry, tough, mouldy salad, the second meal the pie was hard, the smash was stuck to the plate, the gravy had the consistency of water.... The royal certainly isn't what is used to be.

The staff are friendly and helpful but the pub is now in very poor condition . It's ok if you don't look up at the ceiling which in quite a few places has had leaks and looks like it might fall down on you . The men's toilets are a disgrace as the floor is constantly wet and they smell of urine all the time . Use to be a good meeting place with friends for a drink but it's not somewhere I would bother to get dressed up for to go in . Other pubs on the edge of town are much more up to date and with a lovely atmosphere.

Attending local theater with local friends. I stayed the one night only.The staff at the bar etc were great. As always (I have stayed before on a number of occasions)The food was good and served with a smile. The room was good and a guaranteed good nights sleep, as i find the beds very comfortable. All in all from lunchtime to breakfast the next day, it was a lovely friendly experience.

2 years ago we chose this venue to cater for our wedding, 2 years later and the staff, food and environmental quality are all still as high.

Nice hotel. Great meals and friendly bar staff. I find it not as popular as it used to be. However, if you fancy a meal for two for£10 and steak and chips I say try this place.

We visited for an easy early tea before heading out after a busy Sunday morning. I was really disappointed to find that they had stopped doing the carvery again as we had this on a previous visit and it was delicious. Anyway I had curry and my other half had an all day breakfast. Both meals were delicious, plentiful and perfectly cooked his eggs had runny yokes and the sausage was tasty. The staff were really helpful and friendly, the coffee machine was out of order but they offered to make me an instant coffee in the kitchen instead. Overall a nice place with lovely staff but looking around it is really in need of a bit of tlc in the bar and the toilets.

The food here is OK, if you want five star or even four then don't expect it. It's nothing fancy so don't go expecting gourmet dishes, my steak was over cooked but I couldn't be bothered to queue and argue. The service was good to be fair with the blonde foreign girl being very helpful during our visit and very good looking. It's a better place for just a drink...

Well let me start with the food, it is disgusting to say it's boil in a bag and warmed up from a packet I don't understand how it can be so vile.The staff are brilliant always happy however you have a new manager that is miserable, rude and ignorant.I have been visiting for many years but until things improve don't think I shall be visiting again.

A friend and I were visiting Scunthorpe for an evening at The Baths Hall. We decided to eat at the Royal Hotel as it is only a short distance away from the theatre. My friend is a wheelchair user and we had no difficulty getting into the bar area or in finding a suitable table. Although it was tea time the bar area wasn't particularly busy when we first arrived and there were plenty of tables available. It did get much busier during the course of the next hour.When I went to order the meal one of the main course choices wasn't available. I ordered two starters and two mains about an hour and 20 minutes before we needed to leave for the theatre.We sat and waited ages and about 40 minutes later an elderly waitress (the only person we saw serving food) brought us one starter and one main course. She was taken aback when we said we expected to eat out starter before the main course arrived. She advised us that the starters and mains had been ordered together. In which case I can only assume that the management need to look at the system they use to put through an order as the member of staff who placed my order put the items into the system as 2 starters and 2 mains. The waitress took the main course back and reappeared with the other starter. Then we had to wait while she wandered around trying to find us some cutlery.After having to tell the one and only waitress serving meals that we were ready for our main course we then waited yet again. Our mains arrived less than 15 minutes before the show was due to start so we gobbled a couple of mouthfuls then had to rush off to the theatre. We would have made a formal complaint but were unable to do so as we would have missed the start of the show. A very disappointing start to an evening out.

I was delighted to find out that the Royal has recently re started the Sunday carvery. Beef and turkey today and both were delicious. Mash and roasties with sweetcorn, peas, carrots, broccoli and green beans. Yorshire pud and stuffing ball. Will definitely be returning for another as I could not do any better at home.

Great food and even better atmosphere! A must visit if your going out for a few drinks as it's right next to the town! Went for a friends/family meal and couldn't fault any of it! it's child friendly with great staff and great price - really impressed since the turn of the year. keep up the good work.

Friendly welcome although hotel reception could be better disorganised. Bar staff are friendly. Food, you get what you pay for, it's pub grub. Rooms - bed room, bed and furniture are absolutely adequate with TV coffee etc.. Bathrooms - they remain something from the 80's - old taps and shower fittings, poor bath drainage, toilet seats in poor state of repair .....in need of replacement !!

Booked for Christmas dinner at 12.30. We arrived just before 12. The staff were all dressed christmassy with big smiles, even though I know it's rubbish to have to work on Christmas day. It was all planned excellently, we were shown to our table, offered drinks and served our pre-ordered food and drinks with no fuss. The food was all delicious and just the right amount. The atmosphere was lovely and plenty of staff making sure we were having a good Christmas. Thank you to all the staff expertly led by Zea.

Stopped here for lunch one Saturday, it's cheap and cheerful and local. It's microwave stuff so don't expect gourmet cuisine! I had the Yorkshire Pudding & Beef Wrap and it was epic to be fair. Don't go here for a special meal expecting a fine dining experience. It's a quick bit to eat place...

Popped in with some friends before a show at the Baths Hall. There is a lively friendly atmosphere and the staff couldn't do enough for us. We were sitting by the window (which was shut) and there was an absolutely freezing draft coming in - they need to invest in some double glazing! My friend and I ordered a sharing platter which cost £7.49. This is an extortionate price for essentially 2 slices of garlic bread, 2 chicken wings, breaded mushrooms, onion rings and about 4 pieces of scampi. The profit margin on this dish must amount to about 500%. Would go again but next time order a meal and not sit by a window!

Absolutely rubbish, waited over an hour for our meal, on complaining we were told by the manageress that they only had a small grill and, she was rude and didn't apologise, won't go again

The staff are friendly, however don't bat an eyelid about speaking to other members of staff or other punters whilst serving you. There are a further two of the same chain restaurant surrounding the Royal and this has to have the poorest quality of food. The puddings were a disgrace they looked like slop and the main was small portions. On top of the poor quality the food took ages to come out. Overall was disappointed.

I think the need some new blood in there to turn the place around and start doing some proper cooking instead of all the ping ping food which is popular in all the pubs round here

After out last visit decided to try the burger and beer deal again whilst enjoying watching the football. Great atmosphere in the pub and friendly staff. Asked for the bacon on the burger to be served crispy and it was! Just good value, basic meals, worth what you pay, served hot and with a smile.

We both had the burger and a drink deal whilst watching football in a nicely packed pub. Burger was £4.99 and a drink £1 extra (we has Carlsberg but there is a choice) waited a reasonable time for the food and when it arrived it was nicely presented - decent sized position of chips in a bowl, onion rings and burger on a wooden board. All nice and hot, very tasty. Overall a decent meal and great value. Will certainly visit again

They have a good choice of food and have special offers during the week, staff are friendly but you can wait a long time for your food to arrive. Very good atmosphere, pool tables and TV to watch sport.

Had one or two meals here before which were unexceptional so after a hiatus of about eighteen months decided to go back and try it out. There were a few cosmetic changes to the menu but essentially it was the same as before. The staff are very friendly polite and attentive but the food unfortunately is pretty much average. Its good value but the all previous annoyances are still evident such as the all day breakfast being extremely greasy. Don't get me wrong it's not by any means awful,its just that the chef needs to up his/her game a bit.

Its our Local... serves good food , normal pub chain fayre, that offers value for money, a good menu and staff are always welcoming.... has the usual 2 for 10 and daily offers... and if you like sport the TV's are well placed so you can watch from most areas of the lounge.The Pasta is a favourite and the pulled pork nachos are another good dish!!Its often overlooked by larger 'chain' pubs so you can usually get a table, we have used for family celebrations for larger parties and they always cope well..... providing serviettes for own own birthday cakes....If you expect ' a la carte' dont go , it served good pub fayre, menu descriptions pretty accurate !

Could have been more selection, no salads, very burger based, my husband ate the Giant Hot Dog 18" long, a big challenge if your up to it :)

The food is very good at the Royal but we waited for a long time for hot sandwiches, and then the wrong filling was brought out (they brought tuna mayo instead of chicken mayo). As we were starving and on a tight timescale, we kept the tuna and it was fine.

The Royal has recently been refurbished and is clean and spacious. It has a typical pub grub menu and the service is fast and friendly. The fish special of Friday is excellent value

We have just had our Christmas Party here and it was the worst meal and service I have ever known. The service was so slow there was an hour between courses and when the food came it was of such low quality, probably because it is a chain and the chefs dont know how to cook food just warm it up in a microwave. You have been warned do not use this hotel.

We went to The Royal for a family meal. The Restaurant had 4 customers in, ordered starters but they came out all different times. The main courses came out one by one but they took a hour and half to come after starters. Had to ask for one meal as they forgot. Spoke to manager about this but no refund given and they said the staff were busy and thats why the food took so long but they only had 4 people in the bar just drinking. We will never be returning to this hotel for food. Worst experience ever. AVOID!!!!!!!!

was going every week, ideal time to spend with wife and childeren, food incrediably poor and cold, the whole restaurant was complaining about something, manageress wasnt interestested. Went every week for past year. will not go again and have warned company not to put residents in hotel until management changes. We currenlty keep a record of the money this has cost them and since jan11 is in excess of £700 (fantastic managment)
