Such a dostater of an experience, sadly I will never forget. Where to start? Staff don't get paid. Refunds are never honoured. Food cold/ under cooked. 1 hour wait in-between courses. Over priced The buildings falling apart. Avoid the potholes on the way in, better yet, avoid Rowley Manor all together. It's such a shame to see the new owners let a beautiful piece of British history and culture rot away while they maximize there profits. Any thing for a quick profit

We went to attend a dinner party at the Rowley manor hotel on 12th October 2019. The parking lot was pitch dark, so dark that you couldn’t see if someone was stood in front of you! The food was awful and really poor though staff seemed pleasant and service was fine. Once we finished our meal and reached our car we saw that someone had smashed the rear window of our range rover. There was glass everywhere! We informed the hotel and they put us in touch with the police. They did also help to do a cursory clean up of the car. Overall a dreadful and frightening experience! While parking is always at owners risk this is totally unacceptable that a parking lot should have no lights at all or cctv camera to dissuade thieves! I’m surprised that other customers have not fallen down in the parking lot because it is so dark and one cannot see any obstacles while walking. I would never visit again and would definitely tell my friends to avoid this place.

Firstly, the staff are great and can’t do enough and the food is very good and the public rooms nicely decorated. Now for the negatives, the four poster room had no shelves in the wardrobe nor any drawers so shirts, blouses etc remained in the suitcase. The carpets were grubby and having used most of the meagre toiletries on the first night had to ask reception for additional as they had not been replaced. The bathroom had one small strip light over the sink that was supposed to illuminate the full room and whilst no problem climbing into the bath foe a shower, a grab handle would have assisted.Unusually the breakfast buffet was not in the dining room but in the hall outside and if you wanted a a cooked breakfast this was an additional £8.95. However on checking the voucher website it clearly stated a cooked breakfast was included and even when I used my phone to show the website the staff were initially unsure.Visiting friends, who live nearby on our way home they were not surprised by our observations as they had been and did not rate it.A great shame as plenty of potential to be a good venue.

We spent a lovely 3 dsys at Rowley, the place has an old world charm better than other resorts we have bern to. Loved waking up to views of stallions strolling outside my window. The food was awesome especially the breakfast ( eggs ham bacon and all the other goodies) and the afternoon tea ( scones cream cakes sandwiches ) . The service was very personalised. We loved the drive to Whitby and Scarborough provided by the hotel. Will return this summer.

Took my mum for afternoon tea treat. Tucked away from hustle and bustle you will find Rowley Manor. Not particularly grand from the outside but lovely on the inside. Afternoon tea was served with either pot of tea or coffee and/or optional glass of fizz. Range of finger sandwiches, cakes, scones and cream. Nicely set tables, in a lovely room overlooking the gardens. Food and drinks were freshly prepared, much welcome after some of the afternoon teas sampled elsewhere. Staff very polite, friendly and helpful, shame no one was around to thank on the way out.Would recommend.

It was a bitterly cold weekend but the roaring fires and the friendliness of the staff more than made up for it. The place was a very traditional manor house with lots of oak and tall ceilings. There was plenty of parking, directly outside. The rooms were immaculate and had the usual facilities. A major plus was the food which was outstanding. The bar was the place for the evenings, with leather sofas around the big fireplace and a good choice of drinks. There never seemed to be many staff on duty but they coped well and were most friendly and efficient. Would I go back? Most definitely!

Lovely olde world feel about this lovely old manor house/hotel. The staff cannot be faulted, they are an absolute delight, the food is wonderful, dinner was superb and high tea exquisite. Although the bedrooms are looking a little tired, they actually get away with it because it all fits in with the "atmosphere" of the place and perhaps the place wouldn't be the same with newly painted, pristine bedrooms. All in all a lovely stay, can't wait to go back again.

We visited for Sunday lunch recently. We were warmly welcomed and offered to go to the bar for a pre-lunch drink and to select our choices or to go straight to the restaurant. We chose the latter and were shown to a table for two at the back of the room which gave my wife an excellent view of the grounds, but I was looking at the wall.We chose the beef and pork from the limited menu. Both meals had a good portion of meat, the beef being slightly pink, and was accompanied by vegetables and a Yorkshire, on the plate. The quality of both meals was excellent; the gravy was very good. It was the quantity of the vegetables which let this course down. As previously reported, portions are not large. Each plate had 2 roast potatoes and a few French beans, mangetout and slivers of carrot. Unlike meat, vegetables do not cost much and extra vegetables, offered perhaps in a side dish, would have made all the difference. For dessert, we selected the Bakewell Tart (a reasonable sized portion) and steamed syrup pudding, which wasn’t steamed but baked. Both were very nice but the sponge pudding was no bigger than a cube of dimension 5cm. This would be a child’s portion elsewhere. Again, sponge pudding is not expensive and something twice the size would be more appropriate. When we eat out we like to feel comfortably full when we leave and this was not the case on this occasion. A few, inexpensive tweaks, would make all the difference and encourage us to return.

We booked Sunday lunch here after hearing people say how much they had enjoyed wedding receptions etc and how good the food was. Made the booking in early September and the first available date was 18/10/15. Turned at 12.50 fro a 1pm booking to be told that we shoud have had a phone call putting the booking back to 2pm 'as they had a large party in'. We had never had a phone call nor was nay message lef on our answerphone. But they managed to fit us in. We both had the roast beef which was presented on he plate as roast potato,1/2 parsnip &1/2 carrot on the bottom, three slices of beef on top with a large yokshire on top of that. The meal was not piping hot the veg being tepid at best. It might have helped if they warmed the plates first! We were the only people other than one other couple in a room which would seat probably around 60 people (the noise of a large party could be heard in the other dining room. On a side table were dishes with butter and mustard in them which were left uncovered the whole time we were there and there were several flies in the room - basic food hygiene? The overall impression of the place is that it is down at heel and in need of some tlc/capital injection. If the aim was shabby chic then they have missed their target of chic and just achieved shabby. Overall a let down after such a long wait for a table.Have since spoken to 3 other people who have had sunday lunch there and all have a similar opinion.

We visited the Rowley Manor for a special meal. The advertised menu was not available and no bubbles were included as advertised. So we continued with the meal, not wanting to spoil our anniversary meal. The starter was poor, and not even to the standard you would get in a generic chain pub, but this pales into insignificance compared to the inedible chicken pie, with curdled sauce. When this food was queried, the waitor went to ask chef and never returned. We didn't eat the meal and when it was cleared re queried the food. We were then told "chef" says it's supposed to be like that. We left soon after and cut our losses. With such bad quality, false advertising, and bad customer service I can't see matters improving. We advise you to go anywhere else rather than this visit fault towers.

Approaching from the road, Rowley Manor is an imposing old Manor House. The driveway is full of potholes which does spoil the effect and then the outbuildings by the entrance give an untidy appearance. My first impression on entering the hallway was a strange musty smell which actually made me want to leave. My husband actually noticed the smell too and he has a terrible sense of smell! However we persevered and were shown into the (deserted) dining room. There was a chap setting tables etc for dinner. He assured us that they had been very busy earlier on in the afternoon. We had a glass of Prosecco before our tea/coffee and cake stand arrived. The tea-pot and coffee pot were both large which is a plus. When I poured my tea, the saucer was suddenly full of tea as the bone china cup was leaking! However this was replaced immediately and the tea pot topped up.The cake stand contained 8 finger sandwiches, 4 mixed cakes/tarts and 2 scones. The sandwiches were ok, obviously made for a while and cling-filmed I would say. The cakes were very nice. The scones were a bit flat and hard. There was margarine and jam. My husband said later that there was cream but I didn't see it! Obviously he must have eaten it all!I have had better afternoon teas for a similar price. We paid £19 for an offer on Wowcher. I don't think it was worth any more. The décor is somewhat tired and shabby. There is an eclectic mix of pictures on the walls. Some of the pictures needed a good clean, the glass had dried on spray marks (possibly champagne spray). There were some very dusty glass shelves and someone had written 'DUST' in the dust!!The 'Ladies' powder room looked and smelt (not the musty smell) as though they were freshly painted. What a shame the toilets and wash basins are dated 80's pink with pine toilet seats. My husband said the gents was more 50's but I can't comment on those!I think the place could do with an injection of cash to bring it up to standard. It could be a fabulous venue with the right investment. All in all a pleasant, interesting afternoon.

You approach this Grade 3 listed hotel down a long tree lined drive, which at this time of year looked beautiful carpeted with snowdrops and aconites. The spacious hall and reception area were full of fresh flowers and a welcoming log fire. Into the bar we went, a large library style room with oversized squidgy sofas and comfortable armchairs, where we met our friends for a pre lunch glass of champagne. We’d booked the wonderful wood panelled private dining room for our party of 12 (it would accommodate more, but for a noisy party of ladies like us it was just perfect) and once again a roaring log fire. We opted for a simple menu – a starter of antipasta and various delicacies to share followed by a main course of chicken or fish – light but so tasty; cheese and a calorific birthday cake completed a fabulous lunch (and we are rather particular!). Several bottles of New Zealand’s best washed it all down (the wine list is extensive and offers a good range of prices).Rowley Manor is no boutique hotel, but offers country house style with the most delicious food. The service was friendly and attentive without being stuffy. Nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed the afternoon so much, some of us even decided to return for afternoon tea the next day!

Rowley Manor is a fine old house with traditional period decor. Staff are friendly and helpful. Traditional menu and food, perfect for evening dinner. Desert menu was rather too limited in both type of deserts available and style. There were three possible deserts with a cheese platter as a fourth option. Unfortunately one of the three was unavailable on the evening of our visit. All three of the deserts on the menu were heavy. A couple of light options, for example a sorbet would have been an improvement to the menu.We were rather rushed into the restaurant, had we not have been, there might have been time for a pre dinner cocktail. There didn't seem to be a good reason for the hurry. However, overall we had a good evening and starter and main courses were delicious. Wine menu was good and the whole meal was reasonably priced for a venue such as this. We'd definitely go again.

Well you clearly get given a separate menu with a supplement of £8 for steak. Small menu not worth the supposed rrp. I got warm bri for starters was ok not warm salad was not very fresh. We both had the chicken again not fresh clearly reheated in micro and not hot. Was very bland veg was under cooked and it was laid on 3 smashed up new potatoes. My friend had a pudding she went for the trifle she said was ok but had frozen fruit in. Personally I expected a really amazing meal not warmed up and frozen food from a manor. I cook much better food at home daily. The service was fine nice staff clean tables and the hotel itself looks lovely. However on leaving a member of staff did follow us into the loo dont know what that was about. Didn't leave a tip and wont be returning. The staff were welcoming and helpful throughout the afternoon, while being unobtrusive and allowing us to relax. The food considered on its own was not five-star standard, but it was fine and because it was enhanced by the setting and the service, the overall experience was undoubtedly excellent value. There must have been a good 15 other diners in the place, all with the telltale glass of "fizz".For starters we had the tomato soup and a prawn cocktail. The soup had a solid appearance and could have been homemade. The prawn cocktail was served in a very tall narrow wine glass which made it difficult to eat. There were four prawns in it.For mains we ordered chicken and mushroom pasta, slow cooked pork belly and fisherman's pie. Other than a vegetarian option there wasn't much else on the menu unless you wanted to pay an extra £8 for steak. The pasta dish was cloyingly bland. My daughter gave up halfway through. I tried a taste and I couldn't have forced it all down. The pasta was al dente. At £15 it really wasn't worth it. The fish pie was bijou and had a small portion of salmon and some white fish only. It may have been homemade. The belly pork was pleasant enough, served on a bed of mashed potatoes. Not caring to eay the fatty element left precious little meat. Both dishes were served with creamy leeks, courgettes and ribbons of carrot.Barely adequate would describe the portion sizes.Still hungry, we opted to pay for a dessert at a fiver each. The thinnest , smallest, driest piece of key lime pie came on an enormous plate making it look even smaller. It looked and tasted like an Iceland 99p one.My wife had a creme brulee; small and oddly solid in the middle. The place is very nice and the staff pleasant. Without the voucher trade it would be empty, but the poor offerings are an insult and dont encourage repeat business. I suppose two courses for £15 is a big ask, especially when you knock off the voucher company's cut. If they upped it to £20 and cut out the middle man I imagine they could offer something far more palatable. Sadly I won't be going back.

Visited in a party of 6 adults and 2 children for Sunday lunch on Father's Day. The starters and desserts were delicious (pate, duck salad and soup, apple crumble and Eton mess), the main courses were however disappointing. Roast beef and turkey were both tough, leeks were barely cooked, roast potatoes were pale, soft and tasteless. The staff were courteous and helpful, but couldn't make up for poor food.

Visited with my partner for afternoon tea in May on a Groupon.I would visit again with my female friends as it was not really my partners thing.A couple of things that really need to be changed, such has it was advertised as choice of tea & I was not given an option just a pot of tea served. The other thing was that you did not get a choice of sandwiches, it was cucumber, turkey & cranberry, Samon, we asked for plain turkey & no Samon ones & was told we would have to wait a bit for this as they are pre made early in the day. You could tell they had been made earlier has bread was not too fresh. We had fresh cream with our scones & the pastries was very nice.

The hotel is approached by a long driveway which adds to the country house feel. We were greeted warmly and our Travelzoo voucher taken without any fuss. We were a little early and expected we would have our glass of included prosecco in the bar as we did on our last visit. However we were shown straight to our table. The bar area did appear to be quite full so maybe that was the reason. The starter of prawns was good but the main course a little disappointing. The sea bass and cod was good but too many new potatoes and no other vegetables unless you count the abundance lettuce underneath the fish. I don't like lettuce with hot food and we had already had lots with the starter. It would have been nice to have had a choice of veg even if it had been at extra cost. I was disappointed with my desert, English trifle. I was expecting it to include sponge and custard but it was just a dish of fruit compote, the same as was served with my husband's crème brulee, topped with cream. It was ok for the price we paid but would not have been worth the full cost.

the food was a joke who has ever had prawn marie rose on a bread roll with dots of sauce round the plate a very small piece of sea bass with 2 small pieces of broccoli and small amount of cabbage under fish certainly not enough for a man the staff all looked miserable and the waiter in dining room was argue mentative really quite rude when there was a problem he needs a course on customer service. I would not recommend this place and would certainly not go again I have taken into account the vouchers but I eat out a lot and could get a much better meal for 12 pound almost anywhere. why noy give more or better food and cut out the bottle of cava, or charge a fiver more, Im sure people would pay a little more for a dining experience.

This was a Groupon deal with pre dinner drinks. Rowley Manor holds fond memories for me as a teenager my friends father was the Hostler when it was still a residence. It didn't disappoint after all these years. Log fire bar for pre dinner drinks, a good selection to choose from the menu. The food arrived promptly and didn't disappoint. Excellent value. Took note of the Sunday Lunch offering, will definitely be back.

I booked for myself, my partner and my friends from Germany to experience a traditional afternoon tea in the countryside. The countryside was beautiful however the venue and afternoon tea was disappointing. Upon entering Rowley Manor there was a terrible smell (like toilets) which continued into the restaurant area. There were also lots of flies buzzing around which was off putting to say the least. The cake stand with sandwiches, scones, and cake was insufficient for one person, let alone two. This may have been purchased on a Group on offer but none the less it was still not cheap for the poor experience.

This is the 4th time my wife and I have had a meal at Rowley Manor near Little Weighton. I managed to obtain a groupon voucher which made this visit a very cheap one. As always the service was efficient and friendly. We started with the pate which was excellent, followed by grilles sea bass (for myself) and roast belly pork (my Wife) both were beautifully cooked. We both finished off with Eton Mess, which was one of the best either of us had ever tasted. WE had superb coffee in the small bar to round off an excellent evening. We wilol most certainly be back in the not too distant future.

Should you think that it is time to give yourself a relaxing break, not having to travel long distances, then Rowley Manor could be the place you want to visit. We obtained a voucher from one of the companies that issue these, we had a three course evening meal with bubble, an overnight stay with full English breakfast, all of a very high quality, an evening stroll around the lovely grounds, leaving feeling relaxed for another week of work, all for under £60 per couple, what more could you wish for?

I visited Rowley Manor for the first time in many years, having been there many times as a child. Good reception, we had an aperitif in the Bar and set next to a log fire while we perused the menus. The menu was limited to about 5 dishes for each starter/main/desert, which always encourages me as the dishes are freshly produced. I did think that the menu could be more adventurous but that is life. I ordered the pork and chicken terrine, which was actually very good. This was followed by a chicken stroganoff, which came with chips rather than rice and some unimpressive vegetables; the taste was fairly bland but was OK. My guests has deserts which looked like they had been prepared by a 1st year catering college student - in wine glasses. Went for coffee in the bar which was great. I think the venue of fab the cooking was competent, but they could easily move this to the next level. It has had somewhat of a comeback and with a little push they could make this a great local treasure. The grounds and rooms are great.I would encourage you to go and sample the venue.Mark

Took my Mum for Mother's Day afternoon tea. Warm welcome, all staff were friendly and efficient. A glass of champagne was quickly followed by a plate of sandwiches and crisps and a huge stand of scones and cakes. The sandwiches came in a mix of brown and white bread and were ham and mustard, egg mayonnaise, coronation chicken, cream cheese and cucumber and salmon and prawn. All were delicious, fresh and tasty. The scones were homemade, fresh and warm, accompanied by generous portions of clotted cream and jam. The pastries consisted of a mini lemon and poppy seed muffin, cherry bakewell, chocolate covered strawberry, profiterole and banana bread. All were tasty and delicious and just the right size. A large selection of teas or coffee accompanied the food which were free flowing. The staff checked on everything a couple of times and the new Head Chef even came to introduce himself. My Mum was very impressed. We will be visiting for an evening meal soon. The new chef seems to be making massive improvements in the food. This hotel will be going places.

Visited mid-week for an Afternoon Tea treat, bit of a leap of faith as I'd got no previous experience of the venue to draw upon. Warm welcome and cosy surroundings as we waited in the bar for the table to be ready. Slightly hotchpotch decor (mix of chintzy and traditional) but not jarringly so, certainly lots of quirk to entertain the eye, would have loved to explore the rest of the building. Admittedly it did look a bit tired in places (marks on the windows/peeling window paint). Beautiful countryside views, watching the daffs blow in the breeze and horses meandering in the open fields. We were presented with a HUGE teapot and a cake stand full of goodies - 3 types of sandwiches (slightly disappointed that they were all on white bread though), two delicious oven fresh scones, strawberries and some very nice cakes. The venue wasn't very busy when we arrived but soon filled up (probably due to the Groupon offer). We declined the champagne part of the meal due to neither of us being drinkers so I can't comment on the quality of the vintage. The portions didn't look huge but we certainly didn't leave hungry, in fact, we took two pieces of cake home with us.Certainly not the most impressive, sophisticated or delicious afternoon tea I've had in the area but for the money we paid (£15 for two), it was perfectly adequate. Shame the visit was marred at the end by the car being totally blocked in by a huge delivery truck (the driver of which just ignored me and walked off when I asked how long he was going to be there), requiring us to complete a 26 point turn and drive out over the grass but, other than that, a nice way to spend an afternoon.

I have been here several times and have always had an excellent meal together with the same in service. In November 2013 we attended with friends/relatives after the funeral of a relative. We were very well looked after and they made a sad occasion dare I say it enjoyable. The atmosphere is always calm and it is a pleasure to eat and drink in such wonderful surroundings. I love the place and will continue to visit and I would recommend it to anyone.

On arrival at this restaurant we were anticipating great things. The panelled bar with open fire gave us great hope of a fine dinner. Unfortunately, that is where it ended. The menu was basically what you would expect in a public house. We ordered and again were shown into a lovely restaurant. Again, this iis where things went from good to bad. My wife's salmon and prawn salad as a starter was a small piece of salmon with a few prawns a piece of lettuce on plain bread. My Pate was very poor. We both had the beef casserole which on arrival the beef and the sauce was totally bland with no taste. The mash had no consistency whatsoever and I could have believed it was out of a packet. Our deserts were Lemon cheesecake with vanilla ice cream. When putting our spoons to the cheesecake it collapsed. It became lemon cream. This is a restaurant I will never visit again.

My wife and I bought a Groupon voucher based partly upon the menu shown in the Groupon blurb. The voucher included a drink. When we arrived at the Rowley Manor and shown the voucher to the staff we declined the alcoholic drink offered and, instead, settled for soft drinks for which we were charged. We were then presented with 'Groupon' menus we were surprised to see that these menus had fewer, different and to us less desirable choices to those shown in the Groupon offer. All in all a most dissatisfying experience. Never again.

Having booked a two course meal through groupon I though the meal choice would be limited. However we were offered the full menu to choose from. The quality of the food was excellent as was the service. The atmosphere in the bar is good. This restaurant has several offers available and it would be worth asking before booking. We came by this restaurant by chance. It was a Groupon offer, so we took up the offer and to our delight it was a very good place to go to eat food. The old manor house is set at the end of a long drive way in excellent gardens. While the menu is limited, there is enough to entice most people. We started with the pate(excellent) I had the roast belly pork and my wife the beef. They were both excellent served with a good selection of vegetables. For dessert I had the Etton Mess and my wife the Black Forrest Gateau - very tasty indeed . The service is very friendly and efficient. Definitely service with a smile. We enjoyed the meal and surroundings so much that we have already booked again.
