Round Oak Inn in South Staffordshire

Popped for lunch after dog walking. A good selection of choices on the menu and a lovely atmosphere in this canalside pub. Dogs are welcome - there's a couple of dog-free areas as well - and this makes a good spot for refreshments (or more) after walking along the canal towpath. We'll definitely be back!

The beers, staff and kitchen and customers mert are all fantastic, what a great place , I can’t say anything more about how much I enjoyed it

Booked table for 4 for 7.30 ordered by 10 to 8 Got out meals around 20 past 9 Steak was awful unable to cut it with the steak knife lots of fat and grissel service really bad People were walking out and asking for there money back because of the waiting for food

We have passed this pub when travelling on the canal which passes it and have stopped for a drink in the past. This time we decided to have a proper dinner there. It was very busy but we went in earlier to book a table and were promised an easy access one. When we returned later the table requested was ready. Drinks were ordered within a very few minutes of being seated and arrived just a few minutes later. I think that if we had got our drinks before sitting it would have taken longer. We perused the menu and both found several dishes that looked good. Unusually we both chose to have a starter and we both chose the same item - Black and Blue Mushrooms served on a slice of ciabatta with mushrooms in a Shropshire Blue cheese sauce. It was delicious. For the main my partner chose fillets of sea bass served on a risotto and I had a Sirloin steak done rare. We were both very happy with our choice. My steak was one of the tastiest, tenderest I have ever eaten - cooked beautifully rare. My partners sea bass fillets were cooked to perfection. Desserts were out of the question!

We first came to this pub for Sunday Lunch back in March 2024 after recommendations from others. Since then, we have been most Sundays for lunch and have also visited on Bank Holiday Mondays. Food is exceptional and never disappoints. Staff are friendly and the entire vibe of the place is just full of friendly guests. Beautiful location with a lovely beer garden. Bonus that dogs are also welcome. Cannot wait for my lunch again tomorrow 😋

Mother's Day...Service slow. Waited 50 minutes for main. In total was in the pub 2 hours. Had to go to bar for drinks and had to keep asking for things. The menu was set so you had to have two courses. I wouldn't have had a pudding but paid for it so ordered sticky toffee pudding. It came as syrup sponge. I did mention the wait and the pudding to the waitress but she just said sorry its busy due to Mother's day. Other tables had issues too. Won't be returning.

We’ve been to this pub several times for lunch before and have always had a good experience but had a disappointing Mothers Day dinner. Only a few of us had starters and desserts so there weren’t any issues with those but serving 7 main courses all at the same time seemed a bit too much for them to manage. Main meals were either Sunday roasts or “Specials”. 2 of our party had “Specials” which came out first. The rest of our party had to wait a good five minutes for our roasts to arrive. When they did arrive 2 of them barely had any gravy - we asked twice for some more but by the time it arrived the meals were nearly eaten. The sauce didn't arrive with the steak and came ten minutes later. One portion of veg turned up ten minutes after all the meals had been served. The quality of the meat was nice but the timings were all over the place. My husband complained and 20% was knocked off the bill. I think the pub tried to cram as many guests in as they could and the quality of the service took the hit. I don’t think I’ll be returning to celebrate a special occasion in the future.

Frozen veg when it says locally sourced, forgot side dishes twice and food only lukewarm.

A great traditional pub with lovely food and drinks in a lovely canal side location. Great base for a walk along the canal and river smestow in a loop via Giggity Ford where the Wom brook joins the Smestow. Staff very welcoming.

I visited the round oak with my family for food last week. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. I would like to mention a worker called Joe who made us feel very welcome and is a credit to the pub.

Great canal side pub. Lots of space indoors and outside. The menu is traditional and the food generous. Dog friendly.

Went new years lunchtime. Lovely food.. jacket potato and chilli beef and side salad with extra cheese. Lovely size portion. Hubby had the carvery cob and chips and side salad. Again generous portions. Side salads were lovely and fresh. I had gluten free crumble with cream. Really lovely. Hubby had baileys bread pudding with custard. The best he has ever had.. Totally recommend 👌

Sunday lunches are horrific. Probably one of the worst I've ever seen. Roast potatoes warm and shriveled, Yorkshire pudding was burnt, pork was tough. Couldn't believe what I was served. My missis had the lasange and she said it was okay. Nothing special. We were asked like 6 times if everything was ok with our meal, just wanted to be left alone, didn't tell them about the state of the food as we had already paid. Plus points, it's a historic pub with plenty of history and if you are popping in for a quiet pint, it's perfect. If you got kids, there's a playground for them to play in, I will come back, but not to eat there.

Only been there for open mic which was good and worth returning to in the future. Service at the bar was not good and the general pub atmosphere wasn't the best for pen mic performers.

Superb. The homemade lasagne was brilliant. Guest ales very good too. The whole rear area has been marqueed and has great music playing quietly in the background. Planned on going for an hour or so, ended up staying for over 3 hours. Smashing pub.

Friendly service, good menu choices and a comfortable dining experience. There were 8 of us in our party for Sunday lunch. The roast dinners were tasty. Some of our party ordered the pasta dishes which were also tasty. We will definitely return

We went to this pub after having a walk down the canal from bratch locks. Have driven past this pub plenty of times, but never had the chance to try it out. We got there about 1430, Dog friendly pub with plenty of outdoor seating and a little play area for children. We only ordered two alcoholic drinks costing around £8 which isn’t too bad. Only place that I’m aware of, around here that have Red Stripe on tap. However, once we got our drinks and left the bar waiting to go downstairs to the outdoor area, a group of teens / young twenties males & females, brazenly, pulled out their bag of cocaine with no shame in hiding it. Quite a reasonable amount of young families with their children present inside & out, for the children to come across a bag on the floor and mistake it for sometime else would be bad. Few questionable sort of people in the pub, which makes you wonder; are they taking drugs as well. Overall, not too ‘bad’, would score higher, apart from the people taking drugs (each to their own if you want to take drugs, but do it somewhere not in public). Hope management pick up on this and sort it out.

Had a great evening at the Round Oak. Booked the function room for 21st birthday get together. Food and staff were excellent. Would definitely recommend to others.

Been tonight 4th October to take advantage of the steak offer....tried to order 2 rib eye.... no steak ..... would have thought you would have plenty steak for the STEAK night wasn't impressed with the service from staff either .won't be going back again

We visited Round Oak Inn on a Friday lunchtime for beers and food. We took up their early bird offer of two main course lunches for £14 and two desserts for £7. The food was nice, with well kept ales (the Sunbeam was the best Sunbeam I’ve ever tasted), the staff polite and well trained. Our dogs were also made to feel welcome (in certain areas of the pub). We would definitely visit this pub again next time we are in the area.

Service was poor, starters came out before our drinks??? We ordered a carvery for main we received the main plate to then receive our vegetables 15 mins after?? We had all finished by then. My partners nans meal was only scampi & chips it took so long to come out we all came out to eat together not at different times. Defo won’t be returning not value for money.

we booked a room for about 30 of us for our 70th birthday bash the room was very clean and tidy the staff all worked very hard ,the food was very good and they also gave us cups for coffee and tea nothing was to much trouble for them,the play area was fab and the kids had a super time,we set up a bar tab which again was fab ,we all had a lovely day thanks to all the staff who were very busy all the time that we were there,

Enjoyable Sunday lunch , very reasonably priced. The portions were excellent. I was only one in the group to have Sunday lunch, so think I struck it lucky with double portion of vegetables, stop everyone else’s meal was large as well. Only thing which let it down was slightly slow service.

The service in this place is poor. Staffed by young people who lack the skill and possibly the training to know how to serve others.

We visited the RoundOak on Sunday 7/5/2023 for Sunday Lunch ,the Staff are friedly and are keen to help you.It was a very busy time because of the Bankholiday so we had to wait a bit for our lunch to be served.We both chose a roast beaf dinner and may I say it was very nice but unfortanetly it came Luke Warm with the gravey in the jug also luke warm.We will revisit this pub and give it a second chance to see if it improves it quality control before moving to other pubs. A cosy Black Country pub, looks better inside than out. Friendly staff. Only had a drink so can't comment on the food but it was very busy on a Sunday lunchtime. Plenty of parking and handy for a walk along the canal.

Came for the fire walk. Had a couple of good pints of ale and enjoyed the heated outside space. Very busy inside, but got served quickly because the staff were so on it.
