Great setting and enjoyed the art gallery but disappointed with Roth Bar. Staff were disorganised so ordered at the bar in the end despite it being table service as nobody came. Food was expensive for what we received, the oil definitely needed changing for the fries!

The high expectations due to the hype were met with a pleasant experience. The staff was excellent, and the food, while decent, offered a variety of great choices. Regrettably, couldn't explore the art this time, but looking forward to it next visit. Definitely considering a return.

Our weekend family dinner started well: ample parking, a bright room and a courteous welcome. It was early evening with only a few diners present when we arrived. Three of our party ordered chicken, only to be told that there was none available, nor were several other menu items. Alternatives organised, the food arrived reasonably promptly. Some portions were meagre, notably the premium price sea bass: those choosing the vegetarian dishes (butternut squash and the mushroom risotto) fared better. As the meal proceeded, we were surprised to see the requested chicken dish being served at other tables. There was no explanation or apology forthcoming. We waited patiently for empty plates to be cleared, with staff avoiding all eye contact as yet more diners arrived. The situation worsened after dessert menus appeared, leading to an extended hiatus during which all serving staff seemingly avoided our table. It took a walk towards the kitchen to engage with someone and ask for our bill. We declined the offer of desserts. Staff training? The young lady serving our wine was left helpless opening a bottle with an obstinate cork until one of our party came to her aid. With no support forthcoming it remained unclear as to who was taking the lead. In fairness, food quality was generally good, but the sophisticated taste of the small mushroom risotto offering on the children's menu is not appropriate. Our young diner resorted to eating chips. At the prices charged we expected more, and we declined to pay the 12.5% discretionary service charge. Only for those with unlimited time and patience.

Just returned from a delicious meal at The Roth Bar and Grill, Cannot fault the food and drink. Friendly staff (seemed a little thin on the ground tonight but all as efficient as they could be and friendly). Only small thing - wish they’d ban kids after 7pm. There were a couple of noisy kids on a table not far away and had they hung around much longer would have been annoying. But all in all I love this place and have never been disappointed by the food. Delicious squid. Scrumptious hake. Fabulous cocktails. We will be back!

Creative, inventive menu and I was literally tempted to try all of the dishes, but having seen the meat hanging by the bar, I wanted to try that. We shared the squid to start: super crispy and even the vegetables on the side were crispy. I had the burger: the cheese was a little strong for my liking, but the patty was think and perfectly cooked. The fries were excellent and lots of small crispy ones. Also had the buttermilk sandwich which was a little spicy for my wife’s liking but I liked it. The harissa in the coleslaw was a nice touch. A pitcher of tap water was delivered without asking for it. The ginger and treacle pudding got high praise from my wife. A really nice lunch with a good vibe. The setting is fantastic with some quirky art on the walls. I have added photos of two of the quirky items.

As usual this restaurant provides very good food and excellent service. However our dinner tonight was spoiled by the freezing temperature inside the venue. For no doubt Covid related reasons the door into the restaurant was kept open all the time allowing the very cold end of September air in. Obviously the heating was turned off as it would no doubt not be very green to try and heat a room with a howling drought through it. This may have improved the ventilation but it destroyed any hint of ambiance. Given also that about a third of the tables have been removed it was like dining in a Victorian hospice, devoid of atmosphere, charm or warmth. If you do wish to dine I suggest you check if they have changed their approach and I would take a blanket and a warm coat just in case.

The surroundings, the restaurant, the service and the food were all fabulous, unfortunately although we were sat inside, the cigarette smoke that was wafting through was really off putting, it was so strong that both my clothes and hair reeked of it when I got home. Dropped a star for not being able to accommodate walk-ins, harsh perhaps on the last day of government subsidies. But no question, the food was delicious & the family ate on chairs in the garden outside the farmhouse. I enjoyed the sculpture, not being allowed inside to see the Don McCullin show. The food was sensational and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Covid regulations are being very well adhered to, with temperature checks at arrival and all staff sporting masks etc. We had the Chateaubriand from the special board and it did not disappoint - arguably the best beef I’ve ever tasted. The only minor issue was that it was quite cold sat in the marquee (which presumably has been temporarily erected for Covid purposes), however we were provided blankets by one of the waiters and we did acclimatise after some time. I think some patio heaters would certainly be welcomed for the future though! But I’d suggest wearing some extra layers to be safe! In all honesty, I’d happily sit on a glacier and eat if I was going to be served that beef every time!!

We ate outside on pleasant but slightly blustery day. Both the burger and the half-chicken were deliciously tasty and the service was impeccable. Great care was being taken over both social distancing and the wiping down of tables and chairs so one felt very safe from Covid-19. Despite these measures the place was full and had a vibrant atmosphere and that added to the ambience. This has been a real star of a place ever since it first opened and it we have never been disappointed. We went around the Hauser and Wirth garden afterwards which is looking stunning at the moment.

I can still remember eating here 3 years ago so that seemed like a good enough reason for a return visit. It is quite hard to get a booking at the moment as the restaurant is busy with summer visitors and offers the £10 eat out promotion. It is a very popular restaurant and art gallery/garden so booking ahead is essential. Lovely summery menu - everything is tasty and colourful and seasonal. Your temperature is taken on arrival and sitting outside can be requested in advance. Recommended. You can then visit the lovely gardens free of charge wearing a mask through inside areas.

This restaurant is at the upper end pricing of bistro type eating but sadly the food was disappointing. Crispy salt and pepper squid was not crispy and had hardly any spicing. It appeared to be straight out of any supermarket freezer. The chips with lunch were heavily salted and the salad leaves smothered in very vinegary dressing. The fish dish was rather dull. The art gallery and marvellous garden were terrific and free so well worth the drive but sadly the food didn't match up. Booked RBG for seven of us for Sunday Lunch. This was a first time visit for us and having read reviews and their website we were all excited about our visit. We were slightly early so had a bit of time to wander around the gallery - interesting and rather quirky. We were shown to our table and drinks order was quickly taken. Drinks arrived fairly soon after, and food order taken - six roast beefs and one roast pork. Food arrived quite quickly, which was good. The food was tasty, and the beef especially delicious, but the yorkie were very crispy and dry which was a great shame. Some of us had desserts, and these seemed to get a thumbs up. We asked for extra gravy, and got the smallest of jugs half full. I don't know about you, but gravy is the magic part of a roast and brings it all together. We ended up with about 10 extra gravy jugs on the table!Service was OK, but most staff had heads down, not looking across the dining area at their guests and trying to get their attention was virtually impossible. It was a nice setting, but food and service were somewhat underwhelming, and therefore, with the rather pricey menu, left me disappointed. Not good value for money.

I found a piece of chicken in my salad. I checked the texture in my fingers, put it to one side and mentioned it to the waiter when she cleared up.Instead of admitting the mistake, the chef sent out the story that it was "either a piece of garlic or the skin of a chickpea". Because their customers are total idiots that can't judge the different textures of chicken and chickpea. The story had gotten more refined by the time I was leaving - the manager could confirm that it was a piece of chickpea skin, because their customers couldn't possibly know the difference between the two.

We were a party of 5 for lunch. Two of us had visited before and really enjoyed the food and surroundings and this was a chance to introduce the place to our grown up children. There was a varied selection of food on offer and 2 of us chose the chicken salad, 2 chose the pork chop from the Salt Room whilst I chose the Moroccan spiced beef with couscous and flat bread. All of us commented on how delicious each of the dishes were and service was attentive and friendly, albeit the place was very busy. For desert we chose 3 different dishes including a sticky date and ginger pudding which was amazing, a tangerine posset with ginger crumb, also very good, and a rich but gorgeous chocolate mousse. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Have driven past this place on the way into Bruton a few times, so decided to give it a try. Bruton if you are not aware, has two private schools, so I can only assume that this steak house is aimed at encouraging the parents to eat, after admiring the "art" at Hauser and Wirth. The prices are basically London prices for average food. But as part of the "scene" then its one of those places you go to, so you can tell your chums on Monday morning, "oh darling, had a divine time at Roths at the weekend" but two boiled eggs and soldiers for £8, or butterflied mackerel for £16. come on.....

Had roast dinner with my daughter at Roth yesterday. Lovely location, charming and interesting venue and a nice open kitchen. Staff were friendly and attentive. Drinks order (2 lemonades and a small glass of wine) was taken quickly but the drinks (minus the wine) arrived after the food and after prompting. Had to prompt again to get the wine. Roast beef was good but the Yorkshire pudding was cold and the rest of the food was luke warm; however, I still enjoyed it. The roast pork was excellent, with beautiful crisp crackling and apple sauce. We both had chocolate mousse for dessert which was beautiful - pieces of peanut brittle and chunks of honeycomb sitting in a salted caramel sauce above a smooth, creamy chocolate mousse. A really nice atmosphere and a place to go for a treat, as the bill came to a hefty £75. Five stars if the drinks had come sooner and my meal was hot. My daughter said it was one of the best meals she’s had!

I arrived here roaring hungry after the kitchen had closed for lunch. Hoping they might make an exception, I opted for the first thing I saw on the menu, an open sandwich. When it arrived I was taken aback to see a little enamel dish of fries and a giant sandwich - more than I bargained for. But not more than I could manage. I rarely eat fries - these were irresistible. And the sandwich was nothing short of divine: sourdough toast topped with a generous slab of ham (locally cured I think), delicious melted cheddar and topped with celeriac remoulade and little pieces of chopped gherkin. I still feel excited by it as I write this more than a week later. The environment is completely beautiful as well....

The pricing is a bit OTT for rural Somerset but I think maybe it is set for a particular demographic. Service was ok, food was ok but I am not sure I will be a frequent flyer. The location is great though and I remember this when it was an unused farm so it's good to see it with some life back in it.

My friend and I spent the most glorious summer's evening dining here al fresco as the sun sank down into the beautiful countryside surrounds. After each picking up a delicious cocktail (one cock, one mock!!) at the funky bar inside we found a great big table outside near where all the BBQ action was happening. Service was buffet style and each table was invited up one at a time to tuck into a smorgasbord of treats. The "planked" salmon was accompanied by delicious seasonal veg - all topped off with a BBQd chocolate fondant with ice cream (or poached pears and caramelized treats for the non-chocaholics amongst us!). YUMMO!!! A wonderful treat and unusual experience not to be missed. ☆☆☆

We booked a table and met friends we hadn’t seen for a long time, for lunch. The food was good and the service acceptable. However the occasion was spoilt by the restaurant’s policy of allowing diners to bring their dogs. There were 2 dogs on the table next to us and they regularly barked loudly for prolonged periods. So noisy were they that we had to stop talking until they ceased barking. Their selfish owners behaved as though there was nothing wrong. Two other dogs came and left and at times they also joined in the barking.

We went there in a big group for lunch. This was recommended by the Michelin guide, however the menu, the food, and the drinks weren't amazing. The menu is quite simple, the food is just what you'd find in a normal steakhouse, and the ice cream was not up to standards. I had big expectations because of the Michelin status, but they haven't been met.

We had a great time at the Roth Bar! The food was delicious, I had the steak and my parents had the fish stew. The staff were so lovely and welcoming. They took a guess at why we were celebration and gave us a lovely little surprise!

My first visit to this special place. Arrived on spec, the restraunt was full (a good sign) but we were offerred three seats at the bar which serve the same food, from the same kitchen as the restraunt. A good vibrant atmosphere, friendly, attentive, busy and industrious bar staff looked after us and others really well. The food was well cooked, nicely presented and tasted great. There are good eateries in Bruton but this is right up there - I will return soon- but might just try and sit at the bar again rather than the restraunt.

Entertaining an overseas guest at short notice left us feeling lucky to have got a Sunday lunch booking here. It was chock a block, leaving the staff slightly run off their feet - but still friendly and helpful.

Never has this place disappointed. Ten of us for a birthday supper and the food was superb and the staff amazingly attentive (unlike my visit earlier in the day to The Newt, but that’s a different review).

Roth bar Grill was a nice experience overall, especially due to the location and Gallery that was next/actually part of the restaurant ! The food was tasty and the ingredients they use very fresh and locally produced, but not impressive. However, the main disappointment in the restaurant for me was the service. They are all polite and friendly but not very experienced and professional to deal with busy services and treat customers as expected, especially when they come across complaints. I would expect more experience and efficiency in the managerial positions of the restaurant as the place has a lot of potentials! I must compliment the way of cooking, grills , fires etc as well as the freshness of vegetables and very tasty burger!

I am happy paying premium rates for food. But £8 for 2 boiled eggs! Food was ok but just so overpriced

Great for brunch (or lunch, tea, etc) after visiting the art gallery. Art continues into the restaurant which adds to the atmosphere. Food and service both good.

Although we have been to the art gallery which hosts this restaurant a number of times, we had not had dinner here before. We went with two friends and greatly enjoyed the experience. The menu was a bit limited but the food was extremely good and the service friendly. Sadly the prices were more than we would normally want to pay so I don't think that we will be going back soon, but as a place to go with visitors for a special night out this will certainly go on our list.

After reading some of the negative reviews I was tempted not to go. I'm so pleased that we made the decision to go. My family and I booked for lunch. I loved the setting, the gallery and shop; a gorgeous place. Absolutely wonderful (if you love high end art and craft). The restaurant staff were lovely, although the meal was slow at arriving, we were offered drinks etc to compensate, so they did everything to manage the situation and we were more than happy. The food was delicious, fresh, locally sourced and innovative. My only (slight) issue was that the table was a little too cramped. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back.

I preface this by saying this is our 4th visit to this establishment. Having booked several weeks in advance for a party of 8 for a family reunion, we were squeezed onto a table for 4. Yes, 8 of us around a table for four. I asked the waiter if they had a larger table only to be dismissed off hand with “it’s all we can do to accommodate you”. Accommodate us? Thanks for the favour. We booked well in advance and had we known we would be elbowing each other as we ate our rather meagre portions we really would not have bothered. I aired my displeasure to a different waiter on payment. He agreed and said “yes, you did look squashed”. He confirmed the name our booking was made under and said someone would contact us. Unsurprisingly no one has. We await your phone call Huw or Fergus W. The food was OK, if you like pork crackling chewier than a pair of brogues or are on a diet. The chocolate mousse is pretty good. I now regret paying the service charge that was automatically added to the not inexpensive bill. As a postscript, we won’t be returning. Ever.

Somewhere you can visit a gallery, walk the gardens and enjoy fine dining in a funky environment. An excellent menu with attention to quality. Great friendly service and a cool vibe. It's only open every day, except Monday. But only serves dinner on Friday and Saturday.

Stopped for a drink and ordered two £5 smoothies, hoping they would be something special. The barman poured orange juice from a carton and got some frozen fruit from a freezer, poured into tiny glasses, not even tall glasses. £10 later feel very very cheated!!! Absolute rip off.

We have loved this restaurant ever since it opened. We took some friends of ours to visit and eat there for the first time. They were completely blown away by the atmosphere and the food - the total experience. Two of them had the pork chops, the size of a table practically. They both said the chops were the best they have ever tasted and good value. We were looked after beautifully by Marius in particular.

Dropped in for a snack last Sunday lunchtime. We didn't have a booking and it was very busy but they let us order food at the bar. We had carpaccio which was excellent, fried squid which was fresh and not frozen rings like you get in most places and a charcuterie board which was excellent and featured local home cured meats and lovely flat bread.

A really good roast dinner is to be treasured and the ones provided here are right at the top end. We'd visited the Hauser and Wirth Gallery the weekend before and booked ourselves in for lunch the following week. It was just about the perfect lunch experience with fantastic service backing up the quality of the meal. We kept it simple with just two main courses. I had the roast beef which was probably the best I've ever eaten. Very tender and full of flavour whilst every other item on the plate was top quality. My partner had the spit roast lamb which was also very, very good. This place is very classy and deserves its reputation.

Popped into the Art Gallery and for a stroll around the garden. Restaurant busy with breakfast/brunch guests but a table was free for a quick lunch from 12 onwards. Very good flat white coffees followed by Moroccan Beef and Steak on Sourdough. Both superbly cooked and very tasty. Did not have time to sample the desserts but a lesson learnt for future. Book to ensure a table.

Very good as a whole and a quality atmosphere, but a very disappointing main course; the lamb cutlets at £17, providing only one rather mean and desiccated/stringy double chop. Come on, you can (and must) do better than that! The choice of quality eateries in Somerset is pretty bad as it is, and I would've expected that the Roth Bar might raise the game a bit...BTW, great service.

Came here with my artist friend Camilla to celebrate her birthday. As always the food was delicious - pheasant and chicken followed by their divine chocolate caramel mousse, served by charming and attentive staff, Marius was welcoming as ever and prepared a special birthday treat with candle. Thanks for making it so special.

Located in the beautiful countryside of Somerset, we enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant. One of the nice things about the restaurant is that on the way to the tables you pass by the open kitchen, where the chefs are cooking and the smell coming from the open grills tells you that this could be something special.

Had a great meal with very friendly staff. Mariusz the manager always goes out off his way to tend to the customers and meet their needs, the staff are friendly and professional. We all had different meals and all were delicious and great portions. Love this place. Really recommend it.

They add on 10% gratuity without even asking. The decision to tip is the customers not the retailers. For this reason alone I won't be back.

We visited mid afternoon on a Saturday in early September. The place was busy however we only wanted a drink and made our way to the bar. There were other people having a drink at the bar, and about 5 or 6 staff members getting drinks. However, all these drinks seemed to be for table service. Despite our best and polite efforts, not one member of staff made an attempt to catch our eye, say that they’d just be a minute or two. After about 10 minutes (literally) we decided just to leave. Some of the staff we clearly teenagers working a Saturday shift and probably doing what they were told i.e. service the table orders. However, someone presumably was supervising and should have made sure that some service was given to all customers.

This place is always empty and always get turned away even when the restaurant is empty! When you do get a table the service is excruciatingly slow, with overpriced terrible food. The waiting staff always get the order wrong and are very unapologetic. Bad food, poor beer, overpriced and poor service

Poor attitude towards customers. I went into the cafe and ordered a coffee. Paid for the coffee. Then I was told there is a 15minute wait. Manageress was called over to help with the refund. The girl at the till was nice but the manageress made me feel like it was my fault. They were busy she said. So how I am meant to know that? There were plenty of empty tables and I was the only person at the till! Apparently it is normal to wait 15minutes for your coffee. Really?

We had 2 breakfasts but neither were very hot. It was busy and we never got checked on. When the food is not hot and the service not great it frustrates me as weve had some good meals here so maybe depends on whos in the kitchen that day.

I go to Palmers restaurant every day with my buddy Mike, yesterday I had visitors from Stratford on Avon ex army mate and his wife, I brought them to Palmers for breakfast, ( which atm is half price ) anyway, after breakfast they just happened to mention that they thought the restaurant was bright, clean and cheery, and remarked how friendly the staff were, as they greeted me and them as we came in. The owners are often here and take time to speak to the customers, the manager Ben and his supervisor Ellie lead their team from the front, making a visit here a very enjoyable experience.

We stayed at the hotel for one night, the room was clean and the breakfast was quite nice. The actual pub was a mess, very run down and depressing. We were booked for two nights but came home after the first day ...... would not recommend this hotel.
