My family came down from Lincs .Had dinner 10 Adults 3 childen only menu was on the board paid £19,50 each when brought our food told us they ran out of salad .2 of the children was waiting for theirs .asked about theirs they forgot them we nearly finished our meal time they got the theirs Got the starters wrong . When they asked if we wanted pudding .then told us the kitchen was closed Wasn't good with drinks we pad Nearly £300 Best part was the play area for the kids

A nice pub set in the countryside. Plenty of parking, a large children's play area and good food. Drinks felt a little pricey, costing nearly £12 for one pint and one non alcoholic pint, however the food we had was really good although it did take a little longer than we expected despite not appearing to be too busy. This might be because we sat next to the play area and the waiting staff said they didn't know there was a table number on the picnic bench there. Otherwise no complaints.

The carvery is overpriced for a lukewarm warm roast And our booking was at 12 so one of the first Paid £19.50 per carvery refused to give my son an extra Yorkshire pudding although all he had was meat and a Yorkshire pudding The lady serving the meat was doing so with a gloved hand not changing gloves (pretty grim) Service for drinks was slow…. Our puddings turned up before we got our drinks Really disappointing and would not recommend

Brilliant pub came when it was a hot day, never been before the pub garden is brilliant it’s massive so much space for the kids to play on, they had a park football goals and a table tennis table to keep them entertained, lovely views too. The staff were brilliant as was the food and drinks

Went for Sunday lunch, awful food. Little choice of Veg. Ordered 3 meals other than carvery and were told 10-15 minutes. Took over 45 minutes when everyone else has finished. The two young girls on ‘service’ were completely and utterly clueless. Not saving grace was the gardens and park for the little ones.

I have been to this establishment many times in the last couple of years, and every time the staff are rude and disrespectful.Very uninviting!! It’s a shame because it is an amazing place, and should have a great pub and a good atmosphere to complement it, hopefully they can sort this out, and I can go to one of my locals again.

Listen to your reviews and do something. Some sort of bike meet going on but they obviously decided not to add extra staff. Long waits at the bar. Long waits for food. Staff who didn't even bother to interact with their customers, your job would be so much better if you did. Food was cheap ingredients with big prices. Toilets need attention, obviously no time/staff to check them.

Don't know what's happened here. It was really good, but today was dreadful. Food served by a waitress with her mouth full of food (had she taken it from our plates?) food over cooked,

Was pretty quiet early on a Saturday night so service at the bar and restaurant was quick. Food nothing special, appears to be all homemade and plentiful but just okay. Neither pizza nor tapas shacks were open when we visited. Loads of space to sit outside and a huge green area for the kids.

Would be 5 star if the garden showed the amazing views but trees hedges and fences take this away

V V Rude, disinterested staff Food is awful If I was the owner I would sack all the staff and start again Heard the guy in charge of the carvery bullying a young girl waitress who must have been 16 years old, well done big man. It’s a bloody good job she wasn’t my daughter! Avoid this place the staff create such a terrible atmosphere where everything is a problem, it’s like you are putting them out.

Let me be honest, we were there simply because of a car breakdown. But what a great place to stop breakdown or not. Big thank you to Kelly who was running the whole front of house breakfast/phone and anything else all morning. She was so helpful to us in our situation. Thanks again Kelly! We were parked outside waiting for breakdown (Daniel from RAC rescued us Thanks). We began to notice a lot of cars driving into the car park which surprised us given the early part of the morning. We finally went to have a look and the place was buzzing even a 60th birthday breakfast going on with family and kids. Before we left it was ll cleared way and another birthday bash sitting twelve started up. The Windwhistle has great breakfasts serve yourself buffet style at £10 pp all you can eat (incl. Tea and Coffee and the breakfasts were from full English to croissants etc. The lunches and dinners (and bar) start at 12 pm. Looks a great menu but was booking up fast for lunch and evening by 11 am! Play park for the kids. There is a big camping site with power plug-in etc. There is a Bikes and Trikes nights Tuesdays Barbecue and Pizza oven outside - check when. If you see your trip could encompass calling in then I really recommend you do so. Please go to their Website to check our accuracy, availability's and events.

Great views out the rear but parking surface has always been a mess, if it were done then I would think many coaches passing would stop.

First visit after the refurbishment’ which is absolutely horrific. What happened to the country pub? Approached bar to order drinks & ask for a menu to be met by a harassed looking staff member, we decided to sit and eat outside and were told she needed to know where we were sitting before we ordered (fair enough) no tables numbers so we had to describe where we were sitting, again no smile or politeness from bar staff. Food took a long time to arrive and was average. What lets the place down apart from the awful decor is the surly unapproachable and rude staff. We Weren’t asked how our meals were and staff collecting glasses were walking about in a surly manner which created a really bad atmosphere. We won’t return.

Great, friendly service and the beer is very well kept..stunning location right next to cricket st Thomas nr chard. All round 5 stars 🌟

Has this place changed hands recently (ignore all photos). It seems rundown and rather shabby. The inside seems to have been finished in a rush and certainly has no character. Most things were mish mashed We ordered a simple lunch. All day brunch. No BP, no chips and no toast, as advertised, so questioned this and the chips then arrived. Asked about the toast and apparently the grill was not working, when we asked if they had a toaster, the lady said I don't know, I don't go in the kitchen. We then asked for sauce and wasn't asked if everything was OK so I'd have to assume that this was her 1st day in hospitality. Ingredients were basic and for £14 you'd think they could do better than Richmond Sausages My meal was the special, steak baguette, all it needed was to be asked how I wanted my steak. All else was OK I definately do not have any reason to return, due to lack of hospitality, random and dreary atmosphere and average food

All you can eat and it was very nice there was sausages but as you can see I never had any there was apple juice and coffee and other stuff as well well worth £10.00

Good food at a reasonable price. Somewhat limited menu but it's all freshly cooked and not microwave meals. They have spent a fortune revamping this place and it's gone the right way. Now even have fully serviced touring pitches.

The food was not hot it has been left out too long and the beef was tough and the gravy was not hot

A pleasant country inn with decent menu and a decent range of beers. Friendly staff. Dogs are welcome. From the front it sometimes looks closed when it's actually open, especially during late afternoons when other pubs are closed. The entrance is at the rear. In winter there's an ice skating rink.

First visit to The Windwhistle Inn, we had the Sunday carvery. There were 3 different meat choices, home made yourkshire pudding, and all the trimmings. It was really tasty and so much of it. The sticky toffee pudding sponge was light and very tasty. Plus for us it was dog friendly.

Ice skating was horrible! We walked in, nobody there and then when we went to the bar to askand were ignored untill we found someone walking off from the bar. You can't even call that synthetic ice, it was just rough plastic you couldn't even push the little teaching penguins across. The surface is much more suitable for roller skating.

Horrendous place, ice skating was pathetic, service was the slowest I’ve ever experience and we ended up with fish n chips (the British national dish) theeee worst I’ve ever had. The batter was like bark and disgusting, mushy peas were tasteless and horrible, even the Guinness was bitter. When I stood up to make a complaint there was no one even serving at the bar. Restaurants like this do not deserve peoples business and should go under.

Went for breakfast, booked in advance ran out of bread,butter bacon, hash browns were going to be 10mins, no fruit or yogurt as pictured in advert,no scrambled egg,when sat down there was a black hair on fried eggs

Are any owners of this pub reading this ? because theres definitely a pattern following here that needs addressing - you have the potential of making this pub really great if you sort out your grumpy rude staff and improve the food! You have lovely views and a location, so make the most of it! ! Went for our first cooked breakfast. We booked. Not overly impressed, the member of staff behind bar was miserable as sin! Food was average, ran out of bacon but was substituted with gammon but we were ready to leave then! Would have thought coffee would have been filter (much nicer than instant). Pictures on their website show cereal and fruit!, but there wasn’t any. It was just a cooked breakfast. Won’t be returning as I can cook a better breakfast.

First time and not a good experience. I had Haddock, Chips and mushy peas tonight. The batter was so thick it was still yellow in the middle. The fish was not cooked and was the size of a sprat. Mushy peas had to taste and very bland. Such a shame.....won't be back sorry!

Thurday night Curry with a drink of your choice all for £15.00pp good value for money.

Need to sort kitchen out and employ more staff. Great place not being utilised properly.

Really disappointed In the menu choices limited and I felt they were pricey

Food good, friendly family atmosphere but with quiet pub section. Very large inside don't be fooled as the pub looks tiny from the front. Large outside area and campsite.

Overpriced and plain and burnt Customer service was poor, no smiles or pleasantries, no one cared to ask how our meal was… which was awful anyway! They said it was a 25 minute wait which is fine! But they came out with our food over an hour later. No updates at all, no apologies. Other tables who joined after us, received their food before us. Atmosphere was awful. Miserable staff. Horrible and burnt food. What can I recommend? Absolutely nothing, avoid this place!

Had a lovely carvery on Sunday with the family. 6 adults and 2 children. The food was lovely and hot, nicely presented and the staff were attentive and friendly. Lovely

If you go in the week, very expensive, but the breakfast menu at the weekend and carvery is very reasonably priced. Best place for children and adults.

went for a carvary for the fisrt time and trust me it will be the last as the stuffing balls was like rocks, the yourshire pudding was ice cold so i took them back and they came over with some more straight from the oven, the meat was all fatty plus the plates was dirty. Staff members had no gloves on and helping themselfs to the food the bar staff was arragent

Thought some of the things could be different the vegetables were hard. I did mention this. And the table was very sticky. Was a very loud place. Don't think I would go for a Sunday dinner again. Plus bit pricey....

We visited wonderful place on short notice without booking. They were dog friendly and the food was up there. My steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the service was on point. We will definitely visit again.

Second visit here. Not a very good experience this time. Service not good. No smiling staff, basic interaction with customers. Food was still brilliant. Had the carvery.

Very nice place good food and service

We came here today for a family Sunday lunch, first time visiting…And last. Ordered our daughter sausage and chips, we were told it could take up to 20 mins (which is fine) it literally came out within 5, deep fried sausages and they were RAW! Complained to the woman behind the bar, she snatched it from my husbands hand and said to another work member “go and tell the kitchen to make another one” .. She didn’t say sorry! She was just extremely rude and had no customer services skills at all. Obviously this put us all off so we didn’t go up for our carvery (definitely wasn’t missing out as we looked at it closely on the way out and it didn’t look very good) Wish I had thought to take a picture of the sausages! Most definitely would not return.

Staff lovely, food is good pub grub but a little pricey. Their pizza and curry nights however are extremely good value.

We’ve been twice here. First time was in May and we weren’t very happy with the food. Had a pulled pork bbq baguette which was completely tasteless. This time, we had scampi and pizza. The scampi didn’t have any flavour whatsoever and the pizza was very dry. The meat looked like it had been cooked few times and all the juice was drained. We had to wait 1h for the food as well. We understand it was very busy. The location is great. The outdoor views are priceless and has good selection of drinks. But to eat, don’t expect great things .

Attended a wedding ceremony and reception yesterday. Could not fault the venue, food or staff. Absolutely tremendous place. Guests can camp as well.

Great meal with family on a mid week evening, service was great and a good choice of food. Super food salad was very tasty. Just be careful on the road, seems to be used as a race track by motorcycles.

Visited last night for dinner. We had a lovely meal of fish and chips and curry. Food was well presented and hot. Staff friendly and pub seating area was comfortable. Neck Oil IPA which is always a bonus. Would recommend a visit.

Food was good but wasn't much of an atmosphere. We were sat in the bar area which was cold due to staff going back and forth into the stock room.

Don’t bother. We visited the area and looked for somewhere to have a Sunday carvery - review’s seemed good and you had to book so thought it must be good. It was horrific. When you enter you are not met by a lovely classic pub setting, rather a glorified function room with tables sporadically laid around the place and if you’re lucky like we were you are placed right in the corner at the doorway of the toilets - not appetising at all The carvery was not attended by anyone and half cooked meats were half covered by tin foil along with some rather sad looking veg and potatoes and some very burnt Yorkshire puddings. All displayed in front of what looked like a school canteen counter. We decided to eat off the main menu. I shouldn’t have bothered. Pizza - if you’re looking for a good rock breaking tool to find some fossils on Lyme Regis then look no further than this pizza base Chicken burger - the saddest thing I have ever seen, clearly frozen, it managed to maintain a soggy and crunchy exterior Save yourself some time and money and don’t bother just look elsewhere

Nice place great outside space, little dark inside but nice, food was good but very expensive for what you get, conversations behind and at the bar a bit inappropriate where people were eating with children spoilt it really 🙄

This used to be a charming country pub serving great food and wholesome sunday lunches. It is horrid now, vastly outsized with barcode ordering and cheap, nasty food. It was full of families getting drunk whilst their kids ran around trying to entertain themselves. So sad.

Great place for food esp. a Sunday carvery, large outdoor seating and childs play area with stunning views over the valley... Staff tho busy were courteous and welcoming even to someone you hadn't booked for a carvery(which I would recommend you do).I Cannot recommend the windwhistle enough

Lovely friendly local pub with good food! We had the curry, scampi, burger and child sausage and chips as well as chocolate brownies and sticky toffee puddings and they all tasted great!

I've been coming to this place fairly regularly their burgers are lovely and tasty Also the carvery is mouth watering but gets let down by the gravy and it's a shame really a little thicker is better .

Amazing pub with huge outdoor section

Rude, surly staff - unable to offer a please or thank-you. We made the effort to clear our table of plates- no acknowledgement; returned our glasses after sitting outside - nothing! Carvery was OK- but nothing special - especially as we were made to feel we were an inconvenience to the serving staff. Won't revisit and won't recommend. Not a very pleasant afternoon evening.

Under new ownership for a couple of months I think. We've not rushed to the Windwhistle because of persistent disappointment over 4yrs. However... Nice greeting, decent menu with various specials. Speciality evenings ....steak / curry etc. Live music / events. We hadn't booked a table but needed table for 4. Lots of customers around the place in the bar and at tables. They were busy, which was unusual with such a stubborn reputation of customer dissatisfaction. Only two of us had arrived but got table for 4. Drinks order taken at the table within few minutes of sitting. Delayed food order till other guests arrived. Soon have in and ordered, 5 minutes later they arrived. Not a problem, their drinks order and food order taken straight away. We waited 15 minutes for our meal and pleasantly surprised when the others got their food too. Then two more friends arrived so we needed a bigger table....another drinks and food order taken immediately. 15 mins later their food arrived. All with no tut tutting, no tight lips, just a business like and friendly process aimed at satisfying our needs. We ordered the ubiquitous haddock, chips and peas which was so tasty and fresh. Curry, bangers & mash and a prawn dish and everyone was pleased with their meal. Couple of glasses of Sauvignon Blanc, beer, tonic n lime. We are going to go again next week to double check, but first impression was very positive. Outside work was being done to improve the garden / patio areas. Amazing! Best pub I think I’ve ever been too. Amazing beer garden with a newly built play area and 2 open fields, lots of outside and inside seating. Outside heaters, sheltered seating and benches. Drinks not overpriced I found them fair especially given the location. Recommend 100% great for everyone

Very enjoyable night and lovely food

Visited the inn last night to take out my mum for her birthday. Unfortunately, we left very disappointed. Not only did we have to wait over 45 mins for our dinner to be served, but the food arrived with a cold burger, overcooked cold tasteless chips, and bacon which was practically raw. All of the burgers were like this. Would have left a zero star review but it was a sunny day and they do have a nice garden. But the food and service was terrible.

Don’t believe the website blurb about the historic building. Horrible scruffy souless pub with no atmosphere. Old part of the building swamped by modern add ons and a bleak outdoor area with all the grace of a construction site. Awful food offer but beer ok, views nice if you don’t mind standing up in the outdoor area - hardly a garden. Has an atmosphere of decline and one to avoid!

Lacking attention to detail. We visited the Windwhistle last evening. We visited lunch time about a month ago and were greeted with happy people and the four of us enjoyed a fabulous lunch. Sadly our experience last night was quite the reverse. We did not feel the same welcome more that we were a nuisance even entering the bar. We ordered drinks then sat outside with menus. Made our choices of the burgers and went back inside to place the order. We then waited 45 mins for our food. No one told us there would be delays with the food. When it arrived (not all meals at the same time) there was no apology or even an explanation for the unacceptable wait. The thin chips on the plate were Luke warm and extremely overcooked. The bacon was not cooked with lots of fat on it. It was all Luke warm. At a cost of £19.99 each extremely expensive and poor value. We are local and will not be visiting again. Such a disappointment as we had thought this would become a regular place for us to eat but definitely not for us!

Good service, good food, great views, lovely atmosphere. I've eaten from the menu, on curry night and the Sunday carvery and thoroughly enjoyed all.

Not a great experience tonight. Ordered our meals, 2 mains with sides. When brought out only 1 main with 2 sides delivered when asked came back saying the other was missed. So steak had to be redone. So dinners were eaten separately. Found the chicken a little tough.

Went to the wednesday carvery today with a group of 18, lovely food and good friendly service, would definitely go again.

Food not very hot, put on cold plates. Staff were very nice.

Nice quaint ambience, good selection of wine and beer. The food is excellent.

Currently sat in the pub went to get another drink and refused because they want to shut 22.07pm. However on their opening and closing times it clearly states that it shuts at 23.00pm. You may want to check your opening and closing time.

Just was not a place we will ever return to again. The food wasn't what we expected and customer service could have been a bit more professional.
