Best gammon that me and the missus has ever had. Nice buttery roasties and plenty of vegetable options. Plenty of seating and car parking spaces. Nice large outside area for summer time food and drink. Staff were friendly and reasonably priced food. Downside was that the carpets needed a really good clean, but I'm sure that this will be seen too in the not too distant future.

£17 for 3 shandy's, Beer was awful, the barmaids attitude was equally as bad, although she did change the pints eventually. Only entrance to the front door, no lighting outside to the large dark car park. Dodging the pot holes in the dark was dangerous, luckily no one with us had mobility difficulities. Not accessible. Definitely not going back.

Went for a painting event. Horrible venue. Freezing cold room. Paint couldn't dry. Staff couldn't care less. £16 for two glasses of prosecco. Could have bought 2 bottles nicer than the ones they served. Don't take cash and don't have any idea.. We were going to eat here and cancelled the table. Toilets are dirty.. The whole place is dire and needs closing down. Do not waste your time or money.

Won’t be going to this place again. We went for a family birthday meal but were soon disappointed. The staff couldn’t be bothered to get us menus and said they were too busy when asked to clear the table ready for desserts. If the miserable faces of all the staff are anything to go by, it’s obviously not a pleasant place to work. So called small meals were charged at full price and the beer is London prices.

First visit for a few years… such a sad and disappointing visit. Once a great country pub with great food and atmosphere - Now a pale shadow of its former self. Very limited, bog standard pub grub at high prices - Wanted to sit indoors in the bar area, but found the grotty chairs too uncomfortable to sit on and tables that could do with good wipe down. Went outside to escape the depressing interior, but then found the patio area full of discarded cable ties and a multitude of screws and tools. Would and could never bring the kids here. Will wait a few more years until our next visit… maybe someone will take it over and return it to past glories by then.

Was recommended and definitely not worth the trip out. Curry was dry and extremely overcooked. Fish was undercooked (frozen from Iceland shop by the look of it!) Think all meals were heated in a microwave. Definitely not worth the prices they charge. £19.50 for steak and ale pie that was very dry, frozen veg and rubbish mash and chips. Won't be rushing back at anytime.

£16 for Cumberland sausage and mash. What I got was 3 pork sausages in a dish on top of overcooked microwave frozen mash , raw peas, undercooked onions in a watery gravy. Absolutely appalling. The bar was empty and only me eating so no excuse for being busy. Waitress was apologetic and offered to give me a refund which I refused. Poor food, poor presentation and poor quality products and definitely overpriced. They should definitely hold the chef accountable for this review. A nice pub set in the countryside. Plenty of parking, a large children's play area and good food. Drinks felt a little pricey, costing nearly £12 for one pint and one non alcoholic pint, however the food we had was really good although it did take a little longer than we expected despite not appearing to be too busy. This might be because we sat next to the play area and the waiting staff said they didn't know there was a table number on the picnic bench there. Otherwise no complaints.

Let me be honest, we were there simply because of a car breakdown. But what a great place to stop breakdown or not. Big thank you to Kelly who was running the whole front of house breakfast/phone and anything else all morning. She was so helpful to us in our situation. Thanks again Kelly! We were parked outside waiting for breakdown (Daniel from RAC rescued us Thanks). We began to notice a lot of cars driving into the car park which surprised us given the early part of the morning. We finally went to have a look and the place was buzzing even a 60th birthday breakfast going on with family and kids. Before we left it was ll cleared way and another birthday bash sitting twelve started up. The Windwhistle has great breakfasts serve yourself buffet style at £10 pp all you can eat (incl. Tea and Coffee and the breakfasts were from full English to croissants etc. The lunches and dinners (and bar) start at 12 pm. Looks a great menu but was booking up fast for lunch and evening by 11 am! Play park for the kids. There is a big camping site with power plug-in etc. There is a Bikes and Trikes nights Tuesdays Barbecue and Pizza oven outside - check when. If you see your trip could encompass calling in then I really recommend you do so. Please go to their Website to check our accuracy, availability's and events.

First visit after the refurbishment’ which is absolutely horrific. What happened to the country pub? Approached bar to order drinks & ask for a menu to be met by a harassed looking staff member, we decided to sit and eat outside and were told she needed to know where we were sitting before we ordered (fair enough) no tables numbers so we had to describe where we were sitting, again no smile or politeness from bar staff. Food took a long time to arrive and was average. What lets the place down apart from the awful decor is the surly unapproachable and rude staff. We Weren’t asked how our meals were and staff collecting glasses were walking about in a surly manner which created a really bad atmosphere. We won’t return.

Has this place changed hands recently (ignore all photos). It seems rundown and rather shabby. The inside seems to have been finished in a rush and certainly has no character. Most things were mish mashed We ordered a simple lunch. All day brunch. No BP, no chips and no toast, as advertised, so questioned this and the chips then arrived. Asked about the toast and apparently the grill was not working, when we asked if they had a toaster, the lady said I don't know, I don't go in the kitchen. We then asked for sauce and wasn't asked if everything was OK so I'd have to assume that this was her 1st day in hospitality. Ingredients were basic and for £14 you'd think they could do better than Richmond Sausages My meal was the special, steak baguette, all it needed was to be asked how I wanted my steak. All else was OK I definately do not have any reason to return, due to lack of hospitality, random and dreary atmosphere and average food

Are any owners of this pub reading this ? because theres definitely a pattern following here that needs addressing - you have the potential of making this pub really great if you sort out your grumpy rude staff and improve the food! You have lovely views and a location, so make the most of it! ! Went for our first cooked breakfast. We booked. Not overly impressed, the member of staff behind bar was miserable as sin! Food was average, ran out of bacon but was substituted with gammon but we were ready to leave then! Would have thought coffee would have been filter (much nicer than instant). Don’t bother. We visited the area and looked for somewhere to have a Sunday carvery - review’s seemed good and you had to book so thought it must be good. It was horrific. When you enter you are not met by a lovely classic pub setting, rather a glorified function room with tables sporadically laid around the place and if you’re lucky like we were you are placed right in the corner at the doorway of the toilets - not appetising at all The carvery was not attended by anyone and half cooked meats were half covered by tin foil along with some rather sad looking veg and potatoes and some very burnt Yorkshire puddings. All displayed in front of what looked like a school canteen counter. We decided to eat off the main menu. I shouldn’t have bothered. Pizza - if you’re looking for a good rock breaking tool to find some fossils on Lyme Regis then look no further than this pizza base Chicken burger - the saddest thing I have ever seen, clearly frozen, it managed to maintain a soggy and crunchy exterior Save yourself some time and money and don’t bother just look elsewhere

Rude, surly staff - unable to offer a please or thank-you. We made the effort to clear our table of plates- no acknowledgement; returned our glasses after sitting outside - nothing! Carvery was OK- but nothing special - especially as we were made to feel we were an inconvenience to the serving staff. Won't revisit and won't recommend. Not a very pleasant afternoon evening.

June 2023 review Good good, good service, pleasant staff. Evidence of significant investment outdoors. This is now a nice pub and restaurant. ______________________________________ April 2023 review. Under new ownership for a couple of months I think. We've not rushed to the Windwhistle because of persistent disappointment over 4yrs. However... Nice greeting, decent menu with various specials. Speciality evenings ....steak / curry etc. Live music / events. We hadn't booked a table but needed table for 4. Lots of customers around the place in the bar and at tables. They were busy, which was unusual with such a stubborn reputation of customer dissatisfaction. Only two of us had arrived but got table for 4. Drinks order taken at the table within few minutes of sitting. Delayed food order till other guests arrived. Soon have in and ordered, 5 minutes later they arrived. Not a problem, their drinks order and food order taken straight away. We waited 15 minutes for our meal and pleasantly surprised when the others got their food too. Then two more friends arrived so we needed a bigger table....another drinks and food order taken immediately. 15 mins later their food arrived. All with no tut tutting, no tight lips, just a business like and friendly process aimed at satisfying our needs. We ordered the ubiquitous haddock, chips and peas which was so tasty and fresh. Curry, bangers & mash and a prawn dish and everyone was pleased with their meal. Couple of glasses of Sauvignon Blanc, beer, tonic n lime. We are going to go again next week to double check, but first impression was very positive. Outside work was being done to improve the garden / patio areas. Thanks, things are looking up for the Windwhistle. ________________________________________ Previous Review pre-covid 2020 There's a strange atmosphere at the Windwhistle Inn that is the reason I visit only occasionally, yet each time I do visit I feel the same slightly surly attitude from the guy behind the bar and a total lack of professionalism.

Amazing! Best pub I think I’ve ever been too. Amazing beer garden with a newly built play area and 2 open fields, lots of outside and inside seating. Outside heaters, sheltered seating and benches. Drinks not overpriced I found them fair especially given the location. Recommend 100% great for everyone

Lovey village pub, very dog friendly! Food was great value for money and extremely tasty! Very relaxed atmosphere and felt very welcome. It also had Harry’s rhubarb cider on table which was a bonus, it went down a treat!

The Lord Nelson is our local so an easy choice for a family get-together to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary. We had a table for 20 and took over the skittle alley which doubles as a function room. Everyone attending had a great time and the pub and staff received lots of compliments. They are all extremely friendly and professional, and Mark’s food is excellent. Not sure we’ll make the skittles team though!

It's a pub that serves perfectly decent food. But it's not a "gastro-pub" (whatever that is). You can go in and be sure to get a moderately good meal for a moderate price. Nothing fancy. No pretentions of being anything it isn't. Just a country pub catering for a decent honest local clientele. And that's a worthwhile and valuable service I appreciate.

I genuinely have to applaud the staff. This chain has a particular modus operandi, which is a challenge in itself. Being both affordable and hospitable to the masses in tandem is no easy task. The Cerdic management can be commended on those it employs, namely those that stand up rigorously to the extreme varied volumetric patron numbers and the pressures that this produces, especially given the size of the establishment. It is not for me when the 'masses frequent on their evening of well deserved leisure' but outside these times, it serves my purpose.

Fab lunch at the Prince of Wales today. Confit duck leg with dauphinoise potatoes, and venison faggots with mash were our main courses. Both dishes were tasty, filling and cooked perfectly. Puddings were good too; ginger treacle tart and apple pie with custard, not overly sweet and decent size. Thank you
