Fox and Hounds in South Somerset

Traditional pub, owner landlord and lady, a little tired décor but outweighed by the welcome and friendly staff. Good value, tasty homemade pub grub. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal served in the garden. Good range of ales.

Met up with friends up from Cornwall, a shanty group for a lunchtime jamming session with a couple of local musicians. No Sunday roast which was disappointing so I chose faggots with mash and peas. Delicious! A lovely chilled, fun afternoon with a tasty meal too. Staff were friendly and coped well with the influx of lunchtime orders.

Great pub, great atmosphere fantastic service and friendly. Really nice garden, a great space for the kids to run around.

Lovely Sunday roast, friendly staff, very dog friendly and a place for the children to play. We shall return.

Unfortunately this was my last visit to Gabriel and Irina at the Fox as I have moved away to a smaller home. I shall miss the lunches with family both in the, restaurant and open garden. Irina spices the usual pub fare with Romanian dishes if her own. The sausages are particularly good. With the village shop closing, the Fox has become the heart of the village entertains the locals with quiz nights, curry evenings as well as local music. There is ample parking, large garden, restaurant and skittle alley. For a taste of English village life and company you cannot do better than visiting the Fox and Hounds.

We went to the fox and hounds on 25/01/24 and had the best meal ever so good we went back on Saturday evening and the food was just as good had a fantastic fillet steak in a superb sauce

What an absolute gem of a place I found this place on a motorhome site search website. I messaged them prior to going to check that it would be OK to stay in their car park and if our dog was welcome in the pub. We arrived at about 4 pm and parked up in the corner of the large carpark and just dropped into the bar to ask what time food was served from. The landlord was very welcoming from the start, and that food was served from 5 The place is so quiet and in such a lovely village with the sky so clear not much unnatural light pollution. We walked our dog thru some lovely but wet fields. Most of the roads around the area were flooded. We went into the bar with our mutt around 7 pm everyone made us feel so welcome and it was a busy place later found out it was quiz night but it is s credit to the landlord and landlady that when pub's are closing their's ws bouncing a real centre if the community The menu was very varied, I chose the pork belly and my wife the burger. Really good prices, the food arrived piping hot and was delicious, we both had a few pints and sat by the log fire We were not rushed and returned to our moho about 9 ish and settled in for the night Next morning I took the mutt for a walk and everyone I met was so talkative I would definitely stay again Tony,Shelley and Holly the mutt

Just had probably the best pub meal I have ever had at this Pub. The prices are so reasonable I would not hesitate to recommend eating here if you are ever in the area

We accidentally came across this pub. What a GEM of a place, the food was outstanding and its what I call proper pub food, really reasonable price, locally sourced veg and meat. Great little play park for the kids too, we will be returning

A great example of how good a pub can be if you put the effort in to it. Friendly and welcoming people, nice beer garden and fabulous food. Perfect! A good range of drinks and a wide choice of food on the menu at sensible prices. Our friends were really impressed and I’m sure they will be visiting again!👍

We visited in our Motorhome and stayed over after picking up a purchase in Somerton. We found the pub following many recommendations on a Motorhome pub stopover site. We were welcome to stay for free as long as we purchased drinks which you absolutely can't argue with. We had drinks and dinner for us and ordered the dog some sausages. Food was delicious, I had a burger and my hubby had a curry. They even bought out a full meal of sausages, peas and chips for the dog 😊. We both had 3 drinks each, mine were 3 large glasses of wine and hubby had 2 pints and a coffee. The bill for the entire visit was a bargain price of £60. The landlord and staff were extremely welcoming and couldn't do enough for us, the pooch was also subjected to many tummy tickles, cuddles and treats. Highly recommended, we'll definitely be back soon

Just had a lovely evening with my partner and 2 friends. Food was fantastic, didn't have to wait long. Drink and atmosphere was lovely, being only 2 towns over we will definitely come again. 5 stars all round!

What a lovely pub. Been twice this week. Once just for a drink & tonight for an anniversary meal. Great food & drink at reasonable prices. Friendly, helpful staff. Our dog was spoilt rotten. Large beer garden, play area for kids. The atmosphere was friendly and fun, everyone just chilled & relaxing. Thanks guys. 👍

Landlords were very friendly and welcoming. Good outside seating area (weather permitting). Interior decor basic but clean and tidy. Good choice of food and drink, tasty and fairly priced.

This is a very welcoming village pub with a simple comfortable interior and an attractive spacious garden. It has a great selection of beer, wine and other drinks and offers a wide-ranging menu of good value and satisfying food options. Unpretentious independent village pub. Friendly landlord and family run - always clean and well kept. Lovely menu of hearty food and always have a nice variety of beers available on tap. Great summer garden for outside dining and nice fire keeping it warm in winter. Patrons are all from around the area - always good company about This is a regular stop for us.

Had a really lovely meal here and can’t recommend this pub enough. There is pub food and then there’s pub food to a really high standard and this is Fox & Hounds. Freshly made, freshly cooked, great ingredients and everything was served hot.

My husband and I visited here with our friends on a weekend away last week and it was the best meal I have ever eaten! Our food was fresh, hot and delicious. I had the rump steak and it was cooked perfectly and the chips were lovely too. Very friendly people. Would recommend to everyone. It's a shame we live so far but will definitely be back if we visit the area again 😊

Amazing and very cozy place, staff is so friendly, I felt at home. They offer so many options to eat and drink, and their prices are so reasonable, we’ve been there twice during our week in Somerset.

Visited on a Sunday late afternoon as a party of 5 adults and two young children. Sat in the spacious garden which included an excellent enclosed play area. Plenty of menu choices plus daily specials, all of our meals were very nice, good portions and hot. Owners were very accommodating particularly in providing an off menu meal for one of the children. Pub itself was clean, cosy and tastefully decorated. Would recommend.

This pub has it all. With its amazing nutritious and superbly cooked food, A really great hospitable landlord and landlady, excellent waiting staff and excellent chef, plus a well kept garden and spacious outdoor seating area. I was well looked after last year during the festival season as i was based in the village. How glad am i to be back this year. 2 days in and 2 superb meals :)

Stopped here on our way back from Cornwall. Not our normal stop but ours was closed on a Monday:@) This was a couple of miles away and what find. Food was Superb! can rate it higher I work in the Meat trade and the steak was great and cooked just the way I wanted. my good lady is veggie and had the stuffed Mushrooms and was blown away. this will now become our first choicest from now on. prices were good, drinks were good. Service was right and friendly. oh and did I say Dog friendly. top marks there too. great place. Nice garden. we will be back

My wife and I called in here one Friday lunch time. On offer was traditional pub food supported by a very good specials board and a decent range of draught beers and lagers. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had the homemade chicken curry which I thought was exceptional as was the white chocolate & limoncello cheesecake we both had for pudding. The pub has a large beer garden with a nice fenced off children’s play area. There is also a large car park. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Only slight minor point was that the toilets look to need a ‘refresh’. We very highly recommend the pub and definitely plan to visit again.

We have been down visiting our son and found this close to where we were staying. We were so impressed on the first night we visited with the food and atmosphere that we returned two nights later. The food is excellent and great value. Highly recommended!!

As we were staying locally, we decided to come here for a few drinks, then returned later and had dinner. Such a nice friendly atmosphere,the open fire was lovely, locals and staff were very friendly and made the effort to speak to us as did some others staying locally. We mainly had amstel (which was a very nice pint); it was £3.80 a pint and also had the rose wine (dry), which was very nice. Food wise we both had a burger one chicken one beef, could not fault it, it was fresh and tasty, beef was real beef and not some processed rubbish, both came with chips and salad, we had some onion ring which were massive and the best we have had, good portion sizes too. We would highly recommend it, and if we were in the area again, it would come again.

Visited with family who regularly use tge pub, we've been on previous visits. The food and service is as good as always.

Lovely atmosphere ,nice and clean. Land lord and lady were nice. Food was gorgeous and all locally sourced .I had the Hunters Chicken coleslaw was home made. Great Value .

Fantastic 16oz steak, perfectly done and with plenty of chips and onion rings. Great value for money and would highly recommend. Would've taken a picture but I just wanted to eat it!

We visited today for a roast the owner seemed extremely stressed out! We had a lovely roast the beef was lovely but the owners manners were horrible! When I first visited he seemed lovely but maybe the stress has got to him! I work in a pub and I know my boss would never be rude like that!

After "good old covid" has finally gifted us the ability to travel about again.. and with the offer of a family holiday this past week. We knew, on the way back... We just had to stop off again at this delicious pub! As always we were greeted with massive hospitality from the owner and made to feel extremely welcomed. The food, as always, was to die for! Soooo amazing! Honestly, even if you just get the chips, they'll be cooked with such care and passion by the chef that you'll want to bag them up and take them home!We simply can't think of anywhere else we would rather have as our "go to" stop off on a journey back from the south coast. Thank you once again! See you in a year!

Great food and amazing friendly service. I had the bacon and cheese burger which was clearly fresh and homemade also very generous. I was determined to finish it as it was delicious. My partner had the mushroom burger which was also excellent. We were also impressed by the drinks selection.

Really nice cozy pub, friendly staff, variety of ales on and food was great! Beer garden is lovely with a little park is a bonus my son loved playing in there.

Busy bank holiday but excellent service and food for all of us - 4 adults and 3 kids (plus dog). And then there was live music - and it was brilliant. Gabriel is the perfect landlord, very ably backed up by his missus and ALL the staff.

Food was average- sausages were anaemic and very burnt on one side, mash wasn't mash but lumpy potatoes and peas were overcooked, gravy was quite watery. And deco and interior were pretty outdated. Unfortunately, did not live up to the 4 star reviews we had read. On the positive side, our waitress was nice and desserts were okay. However, didn't feel there was a warm welcome or atmosphere like some of the other pubs we have visited locally.

Arrived here and coudnt find any staff eventually found 1 woman who asked if i cud order at bar . Witch was chaos . Had to run about 2 get our own drinks so after 30 mins just went . Would not reccomend as they had no staff to help people

Beautiful country pub with some excellent grub! The refirb has given the place a new lease of life and the staff are lovely people! I'll mention the food again as it is absolutely delicious! A must visit! If you see me there then feel free to buy me a pint!

Just had a wonderful meal at this little gem of a pub. Simply, superb! Everything was cooked to perfection. Steak and Fish both cooked to our liking and the steak was divine! Thank you - we hope to return one day when we are back in the area.

The only thing more mediocre than the food is the service. Honestly, the The Red Lion in Babcary is 5mins away, and so much better. It's a pity the Red Lion was fully booked, otherwise it would have saved me the hassle of going here.

My family and I came to Somerton for a week of relaxation & we had our first evening here. Food was very tasty! Nice portions, varied menu and lots of flavour. They also did a takeaway option so we rang up at lunchtime and put an order in for collection for that evening, everything was piping hot & delicious! Great range of beers & the house wine was extremely good. Gabriel who runs the pub is an absolute delight and goes above & beyond for you. Real friendly, homey pub in the country - we will be back!

Absolute gem of a place we discovered on the way back from Dorset. Amazing service, felt very at home the minute we arrived. Ordered up a Halloumi burger and a bacon and cheese burger. Both, exceptional! The real meat burger was immense, the halloumi burger was equally immense! But, the chips! Oh my days! They were amazing!! Best. Ever. Hands down. Totally recommend this place!

We ate here a few times during our trip, great food and lovely atmosphere. Brilliant fenced off play area for children in the centre of the garden.

Very nice place with very nice people and very good food

Food took 48 minutes to come, and only 3 tables in the pub. Scampy and chips & gammon. Both plates were oily and fatty. It tasted as old cooking oil was used. Please change your oil as people can taste the difference. The tartar sauce was good and nice place otherwise.

Great pub! Just called in for a drink to break up the drive but liked it that much that we stopped for lunch. Really friendly staff, nice cask ales and generous portions of good food at reasonable prices.

Stayed overnight in our campervan in car park. Nice level pitch. No facilities. Ate in pub which had decent pub food and good real ale. Quiet location. Friendly landlord and staff.

We come here regularly as my parents live in the next village over. It’s a lovely local public house - friendly staff, delicious food, good value. Skittles night is a must for locals!
