The service was incredibly slow, we were told there was a staff storage. The food was cold and we had to wait at least 6 minutes for the cake selection. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table.

The last couple of times I’ve visited, the staff have been appallingly rude to me and my friends. On one occasion I was even refused entry with my dog to the garden centre itself despite being ‘supposedly’ dog friendly as stated on the website. The plants are overpriced compared to nearby garden centres and nurseries, but this is relatively unimportant when compared to the unacceptable standard of service and staff they recruit. My friends and I will never visit again and will be advising all our friends, family and colleagues locally to avoid.

Visit today for lunch. The food was absolutely terrible - we were served like warm soup with stale baguette. We sent the food back only for it to return after being microwaved.. microwaving stale bread does not make it fresh.. it makes it hot stale bread.. the soup had a thick scummy skin and a pile of sunflower seeds which it originally didn’t have.. one of our group had a jacket potato again it wasn’t hot.. we did get a refund but serving this type of food is unacceptable. None of the staff seemed surprised by our complaint .. we have been regular visitors to this garden centre since it first opened and standards have slipped big time.. serving food below recommended temperatures will result in food poisoning - until standards improve I suggest you avoid eating here.

We used to be Rosebourne regulars even though it’s a 30 mile round trip from home. We hadn’t been for around 18 months so we thought we’d try the cafe again. I’ll pick out the better bits first: the food quality is good and prices once very high seem to now be back in line with similar venues. Sadly, the negatives continue to outweigh the positives. An almost empty car park (mid week late morning) with the restaurant barely 20% full. We ordered from the app (good experience) but then waited nearly half an hour for simple breakfasts. I have no idea why the slow service but it does seem to echo other reviews. Anyway, it’s a great shame but Hilliers could do worse than revert to the original catering arrangements under Rosebourne or find a decent third party to run the cafe. I’m not optimistic tbh. In the meantime we won’t be returning.

A nice restaurant and well worth a visit while are at the garden centre which is also excellent. A fairly good selection of main meals and light lunches. I have rarely experienced any issues with the availability of menu items and have always been informed of issues when being seated. The burger is good value and with chips makes a main meal.

Visited on a Sunday, just before 12 mid-day. We were surprised to find quite a long queue for the restaurant as it was quite early in the lunch time period. However, it soon became clear that this was a 'business generated' queue. There were about 6 groups of people in front of us and one girl handing the seating (you weren't allowed to seat yourself). The more I watched proceedings the more incredulous I became. There was no urgency about seating people as quickly as possible (bear in mind that a lot of the clientele are elderly - as borne out by all the many disabled spaces in the car park being occupied when we arrived - and feel uncomfortable standing for long periods. Anyway, when a group made it to the front of the queue the girl would look around frowning trying to find a table when I, and everyone else in the queue, could clearly see many cleared clean tables (only one was reserved). Plus the right hand side of the restaurant that they inexplicably seem to want to keep just for people having beverages only was only half empty. When a table was 'found' the girl then mooched over to it and gave it another leisurely wipe with a cloth (why? the girl with a trolley clearing tables had already done this, we'd watched her) then mooched back and collected the customer and walked them back to the table. This all took up so much time. Once we were eventually seated we couldn't help but notice how equally slow the table clearer was - I am not exaggerating when I say she was picking up every plate, cup and glass individually from each table and placing on her trolley individually and, again, no urgency whatsoever. I tried to work out why she was being so inefficient and concluded perhaps she hated the job so was slowing it up so much so she had to do less work. Finally, the food and drink. The coffees were fine - nice and hot and the chap serving the drinks was polite and efficient. Similarly the food server was pleasant. We had jacket potatoes which were a good size and generous topping BUT as mentioned by others in their reviews the ploughmans really needs to be presented better - plonking a whole apple and whole large tomato on a plate does not make an attractive plate and no cucumber? The prices are steep for the cafe and very steep for the food hall and plants and pots etc. I don't think we will rush back.

Sorry guys but your restaurant has gone downhill ,today we called in for coffee and cake I ordered a savory scone it had something green in it I assumed onion it was horrible, your cheese scones used to be great. My husband ordered coffee cake it used to be coffee and walnut. There were very hard bits in the cake which looked like coffee beans these could have broken a tooth. Both of us said that the scone and the cake had no taste in fact my scone left a horrible taste in my mouth. Hillier since you have taken over Rosebourne it's lost its charm you should be tasting what is being g served.

Popped in as a last minute thing for Mother’s Day breakfast, it was busy,, never thought to book. However, we were seated fairly quickly, advised on being seated. There would be a 20 minute wait, which was far less than this order was placed, and in no time at all, breakfast was served cannot fault it in any way, shape or form, the quality of the breakfast was incredible. The service fantastic, will certainly be returning. Unlike other places pay minimal for the breakfast and then get stung on the hot drinks, £9.99 all inclusive, including toast and a hot drink! Certainly value for money, very tasty breakfast. Thank you

We went there this weekend. For lunch safe to say never again . One person had a ceased sales which was basically a lump of lettuce with chicken on top. The final straw was the ploughman’s which is well overpriced for what it is. To me a ploughman’s is salad lettuce cucumber, cheese, ham, celery bread a real nice mix. What came was to much tomato and celery, bread which was a good chunk but came with two butter portions have to say the chutney was nice. Small amount of cheese half a slice of ham only think you could do to make it work was to put it in a sandwich which is what I did . Had I’d known the ploughman’s was like it I would have just ordered a sandwich in the first place, One of our group ordered beans and egg on toast it was after 11 the girl at the checkout did check it was ok and it was fine yet came out with just beans on toast when question member of staff over the egg she said we don’t do that now There was no give on service yet another member of the table had ham egg and chips so this could have been easily rectified and would have been now real hardship to have the eggs as well. When we got home we checked on receipts which clearly said egg on toast with beans please. Totaly missed a hot drink dispite ordering one when we ordered although they never included it. We were a table of 10 , 7 of which were adult learning disability’s a little bit of Lea way would have gone a long way.

Disappointing ploughman’s lunch. At £13.99 it was basically unimaginatively plonked on a plate, the ‘artisan’ bread tasted like a cheap roll, tasteless tomato . Please have pride in your kitchen and deliver something to be proud of!

My wife and I had lunch here today and we can only say “congratulations Hillier” on returning the menu selections and prices to something like they were before the old Rosebourne management put up prices through the roof. The service was impeccable, food cooked and presented perfectly and my wallet is still OK. I hope that the many customers who went elsewhere when the pre-Hillier management got greedy now discover that this is again an excellent place for breakfast and lunch.

Having regularly visited the old Rosebourne for breakfast, and always having been impressed, this morning at 'Hillier' was a total disappointment. Three of use went for breakfast. The cooked 'Hillier Breakfast' was no better than a roadside caf. The bacon was fatty and undercooked, the toast was just warm bread, the sausages were cheap, undercooked and nothing like the delicious sausages Rosebourne used to serve, the mushrooms were seemingly tinned/ frozen and the whole meal was just slopped on the plate, swimming in grease. The bacon roll was dry and the portion of toast was thin, measly and hardly toasted. We had to ask for butter, ask for the marmalade we'd ordered with the toast and the overall wait for food was too long. One of our party had their scone brought to the table a good 20 minutes before the rest of us had our food. Our drinks were more or less finished by the time the hot food came. We'll not be bothering with breakfast again, it was so disappointing given that it was just shy of £40 for three of us! Hillier have taken over Rosebourne and managed to ruin the restaurant in one fell swoop . . . guess it's all about the money and profit and less about service and tasty produce!

The restaurant wasn't very busy, could have been the fact it was very warm outside. The one problem is there is no air conditioning and so it was rather hot and uncomfortable within the restaurant. I ordered a chicken coronation jacket potato which was very nice but I think I'll stick with chicken in a sandwich in future. My friend ordered cream cheese with salmon in jacket potato which she thought was very tasty. For desserts, I had lemon meringue pie whilst my friend had sticky toffee pudding, both were lovely. The food was very nice and reasonably priced, I would recommend.

Always go to rosebourne if we ever want a special breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. Went for breakfast this morning and it was terrible. Sausages aren't gluten free which means they are filled with cheap rusk. I asked to swap the sausage for bacon. I was informed it could be done at a charge. The breakfast looked cheap and certainly not to its normal standards. Won't be returning. Could've got a better breakfast at Costa.

This is review relating to the restaurant- we've been visiting Rosebourne for years- fantastic menu for vegetarians / vegans / allergies and children. However since the Hillier take over its dreadful- the menu is poor - not even a child's hot chocolate or cupcake. No lovely vegan coleslaw anymore with sandwiches or vegan cake. Please please please bring back the old menu - you've ruined my children's after school Friday treat routine! Unfortunately until the menu changes we won't be visiting.

Sadly I have to add to the poor reviews about our lunch at Hillier’s. Having always rated it highly when it was Rosebourne. The new Menu isn’t working. We had tepid soup accompanied by an orange cheese scone which was huge. The Prawn cocktail was a disaster, a few chopped lettice leaves , with a sprinkling of shrimps (not prawns) accompanied by a small dollop of plain mayonnaise, plus a bit of brown bread which was the best bit! They even ran out of water !! Please, please get the act together, so that the lovely staff can be proud of what they are offering us. It can work as Rosebourne were able to do it to a very high standard, including Vegan and Gluten free.

Like most of the current reviewers we were disappointed with the new menu and prices. Although I was pleased to see Welsh rarebit on the menu and it was tasty there wasn’t much of it! What has really peeved me is the management attitude with...

We came to Rosebourne today to meet with our friends the layout and presentation of the premises was lovely as always. We visited the Restaurant for Lunch and wondered what has happened to the Menu? It appears to have shrunk and prices have risen. The food offering just isn’t the same at all. I had the smoked salmon on soggy sourdough with far too much cream cheese and very little salad. When you run a Farm Shop with Restaurant you are blessed with wonderful ingredients from local suppliers so the food and presentation should be outstanding. Sadly the Customer service seems to be stuck in COVID times too. Why can’t the staff now take an order and build a rapport with the Customer instead of just being food runners? Just not a great experience when you have to get your own water from the fridge and work out the app on your phone. There is a lot of competition out there Rosebourne so you really have to do better if you want to keep your clientele.

I have visited Rosebourne many times over the years and whilst I’ve always thought it was a little expensive it was good quality food and plenty of it.I was very disappointed today to see there is a new menu with an enormous price increase! The service was awful, so many staff standing around talking, one girl seemed to be rushing backwards and forwards the whole time I was there whilst a group of 6 were chatting for most of the time! We asked for an extra plate which was never brought over, asked for a glass of water had to go and get that ourselves. Very very disappointing.

Having been to the restaurant a number of times with friends and family as a preferred place to eat, todays visit with a different menu, was certainly not good value for money. The service, it was appalling. Food arrived, no tartare for the fish, no vinegar as requested. Halfway through the food our drinks had not arrived, I had to follow-up, the disorganisation was shameful.I have gone from a person who recommended Rosebourne, to it being a place I have no intention of going again, this is based on lack of value for money and customer service..

We went to rosebourne this morning for breakfast, and it was very very yummy! Staff were all so lovely, and the quality of food was as amazing as always! Sadly some of our favourites were no longer on the new menu, and the prices had slightly increased, but the attentiveness of the staff, and the quality of the food will keep us coming back!!Was also difficult to not to pocket one of the new coffee mugs hehe!

In the space of a month it’s gone from getting 5 stars from me to today giving it 2. Why change? Pricing is shocking!! 8 quid for a small sandwich. Tasted fine but 8 quid seriously???Been coming since the place opened, with my children, with family when visiting. Why? Because it was a great place to eat, the new menu seriously needs changing. Half of what is on that new menu will not be chosen regularly, don’t know what the thinking is behind the change. I heard people moaning to your own staff today. Which is good for the comedy value but not great when deciding what to order. Either the management ain’t listening or don’t care, look at the reviews on here. It says it all. The place was always spoken about in high regard. You’ve done some serious damage. Everyone gets price rises of late and inflation however to overnight charge the same price for a sandwich, but then make your customers pay for the chips on top. It’s nearly a 25% increase. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask!! Always leave it on a good note it would seem drinks are the same price maybe that was why whilst I was there today most tables were only having hot drinks. Bravo folks!!!

Wow!!!!New menu!!! Is a joke. Ok the whole nation has seen the price of food rise in the supermarkets and in restaurants. Inflation is real. We know. But you lot are having a laugh. Food - some of what is on that menu is laughable. Who has decided on the changes? Who has decided on the pricing? How can you justify charging the same, if not more for a sandwich and a pitiful side salad. Then charge the same said customers for a small ‘bowl’ of chips. The increase for what someone was getting last month to today is roughly 25% for a spot of lunch. Are you people for real. Inflation is what 4.6%? At least Dick Turpin wore a mask.Leave it on a good note. Drinks seemed to have stayed the same price. I guess that would explain why 70% of the tables were only having hot drinks and not food. Congratulations.

I was given a voucher at Christmas for afternoon tea for two, priced at £27. We visited today, 19th January and had to pay an extra £8 due to a massive price increase. When it arrived, we had to ask for plates and a spoon for the trifle (which was not very nice). The scones and vol au vents were very dry and unappetising. The meagre sandwiches were disappointing. There seems to be a high turnover of badly trained staff. All in all, an experience not to be repeated in a hurry.

Looked forward to visiting Rosebourne at least once a week for breakfast or lunch. Recommended it to all our friends. No longer, I’m afraid ! A price hike of around 15% would have been acceptable due to rising costs - but the present changes to the menu are unacceptable :- breakfast - no toast included ? Only one sausage (instead of two) ? Lunch - the well-loved cheddar and red onion toastie now has the red onion replaced by onion chutney which drowns the taste of everything. Fries are no longer included - now an extra £2 . Coleslaw no longer included - now an extra £1.95 We will return when Rosebourne has the sense to do a U-turn.

From one of my favourite places to eat, to maybe coffee and cake sometime but a meal .. dont think so.Called in for lunch yesterday to find a new menu and price increases.. and no we dont do fish and chips on a Sunday, and you can order on the app!. My daughter ordered a Toastie £8.50 for one and a little bit of salad... no chips anymore. I had Pumpkin Tortellini.. small portion and priced at just over £11. not value for money at all. Mind with all the new crockery have to save money somehow! When can we have waitress service again and the chance to interact with the staff?. I for one am fed up with the new way, new menu and new prices! How to ruin a business in one easy lesson

I have been visiting Rosebourne’s ever since it opened using the cafe at least once a week .I visited today with my daughters & found they had changed the menu .none of the regular items were on there ,spent 10 mins trying to find something we like .I decided although jacket potato no longer came with tuna I would ask if they would be able to accommodate me as they still sell tuna as a toastie .The girls at the till were very helpful & went off to ask the chef who told them this would not be possible !after settling for items we would not normally order we all decided that this will no longer be our weekly meet up for lunch.such a shame this was such a nice place to visit but somebody obviously new & higher up in the chain of command has decided in their infinite wisdom to change something that didn’t need changing !This is why we found the car park half empty & didn’t have to Queue !

Such a shameWe are Rosebourne veterans visiting approximately 30 times a year for lunch. Average spend is probably £30-£40 depending on whether both kids accompany us. In addition we regularly spend the same amount again in the food shop and from time to time buy larger ticket items in the garden section. So, this now going to stop. Why? Well Rosebourne in their infinite wisdom have done the classic thing of trying to fix something which isn't broken. The cafe was great. Yes it was frequently very busy but that was because the food was fab, the menu good and prices were fair. The new 2022 menu has removed all the old favourites and pushes prices up whilst also removing items from the meals like fries, salad etc etc. What was once included is now extra. In some cases the effective price increase is around 50%. Sorry but I'm not doing a 50 minute round trip drive to be ripped off. Start by sacking whoever forced through these changes and revert to the previous menu. The place is nearly empty now as people vote with their feet. So sad and so greedy.

Breakfast price 2021 Full English £9.50, new price for 2022 £10.50, ok increase of around 10% which out strips current inflation but can live with that.OH BUT WAIT.Now you only get one sausage, has before you got 2 per full breakfast, Extra sausage is now £2.00, now your breakfast is £12.50, i haven't finished yet, the new breakfast doesn't now come with toast, that's another £2.00,ops now what was £9.50 is now £14.50, an increase of around 50% in real terms, you can spin it anyway you want but 50% increase is extortionate and you need to justify this robbery.Did i mention the lunch menu has changed too, Chips with your meals which was standard before these menu changes is now extra.

We have eaten here a number of times over past 12 months and its always the same poor service. Lots of staff milling around but with no apparent role. Today we watched 2 young girls make just toast, we were due toast with our breakfast but it never arrived. No opportunity to query unless you walk up to the kitchen. Coffee for the first time arrive before breakfast rather than when finished. There are 2 coffee machines so why is it always late? Food here is always good, its why we come here. But staffing lets this place down and its not changed in the past 12 months

Myself and a friend came in for coffee and cake one afternoon, after the Coffee Shop was highly recommended to us. The coffee shop was lovely, and there so many choices of cakes. The staff were so friendly and attentive, making our visit a pleasure. Best of all, it’s dog-friendly, so next time I will be taking my Jack Russell with me. A must-visit spot for great coffee and great vibes!

Ordered food from Stax and Snax and received a burger that was completely undercooked and pink in the middle, on complaining was told to bring it back for replacement even though I had it delivered. Offered to refund the burger and replace but only if I collected. Disgusting service, please check your food before eating if ordering from deliveroo or any other delivery service.

Shout out to staff member Andy today. Called in with my sister and partner for lunch at 2pm. We came and selected a table before joining the queue. There were crocks on the table but despite being on a break Andy jumped up and cleared the table. We thanked him and settled down.. My sister ordered a wet cappuccino, when she stirred it it was far from wet but not wanted to make a fuss she spooned out the froth and commented that it wasn't quite what she ordered but she was going to drink it. Again Andy jumped up and insisted on remaking her drink. It can be hard to find good service so we made a point of asking his name before we left so we can say thank you A particular thank you from my partner and I as we had brought my sister to Romsey as a day out and it means a lot that she was treated so well
