Rose of India in Chelmsford

I've used it many times, but the last couple have been disappointing. It's always great service, but the food seems to not be as good.

This was our first visit after being told it was the best Indian restaurant in Chelmsford. We had such a lovely meal. It was all perfect! Great service, attentive, friendly and extremely polite without being intrusive. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. It was busy even on a Wednesday night so I would definitely recommend booking ahead.

I have eaten in many Indian restaurants, but this place has won me over. The food is full of flavour and well proportioned. I can highly recommend the Pepper Lamb starter. I have visited many time since my first visit, yet always treated with the same respect that I have witness every guess receive. They are able to cater for the single person or any large party. The staff are friendly and always willing to assist whenever they can.

Great food, great staff and comfortable restaurant. I love the place! And nothing is ever too much trouble. Visited again after being away and once again their menu has been expanded and the food is fresh and exciting.

I had a fabulous meal here last night. As soon as I walked in, the service was outstanding. The food was delicious and served piping hot. Truly excellent and, of course, I'd go back.

The food here is consistently exceptional, really can’t rate it enough! The service is perfect, warm and welcoming, attentive and efficient. Been coming here for years when I visit Chelmsford and will be coming back for many more to come I suspect. It can be a little noisy in there sometimes but nothing too bad at all. Would definitely recommend.

I oiled say that the Rose is probably the best Indian in Chelmsford and the surrounding area. Food is of high quality and staff are friendly and professional. Money well spent.

Excellent Indian Restaurant in Chelmsford. Menu choice was great. Each dish was delicious. Service very good. The waiter took his time to explain how the dishes were freshly made including the Mango chutney that accompanied the Poppadoms. Good wine and beer choices too. As always we'd ordered too much and were kindly offered the remaining food to be placed into containers to take away. I would recommend this restaurant.

Order a takeaway for me and the partner after being recommended by friends. Had a wait of 50 mins but was well worth-it as Food was hot and tasted great . Id recommend the bangla patiala in lamb full of fantastic flavour .

Food wasn’t good at all it really didn’t taste nice at all I was disappointed as I had heard so much hype about it

This was a great restaurant. We loved our meals as they were very different to the normal Indian food available. Service was friendly and prompt on a quiet Monday evening. The chicken shashlik was especially nice. So was the chicken tikka korahi

Fantastic. I precooked the Kurzi- leg of lamb cooked for 8 hours. It did not disappoint and was delicious. The whole meal was a feast for a special occasion They looked after us and were attentive, especially with the food needs for a guest. Great meal, lovely staff and always a good experience

Restaurant is very clean, light and bright. Very welcoming and attentive throughout. We did not have to wait too long for food to arrive. Food is delicious and extremely tasty.

This is Not my first visit nor will it be the last. I love this place. The menu is great with many options and food is always excellent. The staff are amazing , always very friendly and attentive. The Best in Essex

Walked in; Massive stained Carpet! Hope the Jan2024new refurb/frontdoor renovation fixed that?!;lol ITS A BANGLA* Restaurant, NOT AN INDIAN restaurant firstly :)) *Bengali/Bangladeshi, respectively <3 The food was... well, British ppl like it - this is their target audience/remit/comfort zone as it brings in the dough - the rose is always packed thats good - genuinely, I love that its always rammed/full! :-D But authenticity, re: Indian food, it aint. all the best- a chelmsford visitor 2023

Very attentive staff, good food, good prices. We were visiting the area and fancied a meal out. We chose this venue at random and was really pleased with our choice. If we are ever in the area again we would certainly pay a return visit.

Nice food, everyone enjoyed their meal. Only downside was the extremely long wait - we had starters but arrived at 7 & didn’t get main course until 9.

The food is always excellent here and the service is the best in Chelmsford.

Offered to cook anything we fancied, but took their recommendation and loved every mouthful, already telling my family and friends about this place. Anything not on the menu, they said they would cook. 4 pints made it over £35 a head but still worth the good food and staff.

Best curry establishment anywhere. As I vegan I'm always given VIP treatment.

Takeaway! Religiously order here but tonight the food we collected was cold , and the lids not on properly! The currys have the sauce and the naan bread flat and hard. Absolutely AWFUL sorry to say but not on having cold food when we waited over an hour!

Incredible food at a very affordable price. Their tandoori mix grill is a must! Our go to place for Indian food in Chelmsford!

Takeaway so can’t judge some of the above. garlic nans very small and flat and hard so not good at all. My Garlic Tamddori Chicken was ok but quite bland and I really miss the tandoori chicken of old which was charred and so flavoursome. Is it cooked different now . Yes sad I am going back a bit but I really miss classic tandoori cooking. Sag paneer watery. Tarka dhal good. Popaddoms nice and fresh. Hubby enjoyed the rose special and he would probably score higher than I will. Bit disappointed as expensive.

Takeaway as restaurant full. Garlic nans are very small and not the nicest , bit flat and hard rather than pillowy. Rice was fine, popadoms fine too. sag paneer was really poor thin and watery one of the worst I have had. chicken tikka moist and good chunks, tarkha dhal was pleasant but bit bland , my tandoori chicken curry was ok but bland and lacked depth. Overall alright but it was expensive and don’t think we would order again.

Best curry in Chelmsford. Always good service. The Garlic Chilli Chicken Masala is a must have!

Catered for my company Christmas meal and provided a quality service, we had a large group but they were still able to bring the food out quickly and to a great standard. The food was delicious and the service was spectacular!

Excellent food, excellent service. The best Indian food I’ve ever had. Whole family really enjoyed the food. Particularly the lamb and naan bread stood out as astonishing. Myself, not even a massive lover of Indian, absolutely loved it and came out full and satisfied. We probably went at the busiest time, middle of December, Saturday night - but the service was still very good and the waiters are lovely and very polite. The only negative would be it is quite loud in there as it was very busy so we had to raise our voices a lot to speak, however I think this was due to the fact there were a lot of Xmas parties ect.

Booked for a large party , we were welcomed on arrival and taken to our table. Prompt service for drinks and popadoms, which were well made. We selected various starters and mains which we shared. Every plate was tasty and the service very good. I had heard it was highly rated and can understand why. Good location close to the bus and train stations, with parking not far away also.

Very attentive service popped down here as I was in Chelmsford to see family. Heard good things and it didn't disappoint. Good portions. Price point is higher than other locals but you get what you pay for. Lovely ambiance too and they have a lot of regulars too which is a good sign.

Excellent restaurant with extremely high quality of the food backed up by Excellent customer service. Very popular place as we dined early evening and the place was busy all of the time we were there, even for the Monday that we visited.

Went on a Monday night and it was packed, like a Saturday night so that was the first good sign, then poppadoms with the usual dips tho they did have two of their own dips that were very good. The main meal was excellent, fresh hot and the chicken was tender not tough and rubbery like it can be at some Indian restaurants, we'll worth the visit.

Wow! The food and service was amazing, wonderful family atmosphere.

Never happened before. Food usually excellent. But lastnight my friend, and I got a take away. It was awful. I had a mushroom biriyani. The vegetable curry which accompanied it was like dish water. With half a potato swimming around in it. My friends Chicken tikka korma didn't even coat the back of his spoon. Very disappointing.

Haven’t been here for a while, tried our luck at 6pm for a walk-in had a table for a couple of hours, food was very good and service very good had to leave early as they required the table which they told us before we sat down so was ok, but would have stayed if we could, next time I will book recommend!!

Excellent atmosphere, felt very comfortable. The service was great, the staff were very polite and accommodating. The food was also very nice, a step above other Indian restaurants in Chelmsford.

Quite busy for a Tuesday night , was impressed with the quality of the food and the freshness,although service could of been a little quicker having sat there for over 30 minutes. Good front of house and very well priced and considered menu.

I guess it’s decent if you’ve never tried Indian or South- Asian food. There is nothing Indian in the food, it’s very bland and lacks authentic taste. Their recipes are British adaptations, the cooking is disgraceful and if you ask for normal spices in your food, you will get some red chilly powder which will give it some spice just for the sake of it. The fried items have an aftertaste of burnt/ old oil. The staff was nice.

A group of 12 of us ate there last night and even though we were a large group the staff were great. Food all came out at similar time, everyone got what they ordered and it all looked and tasted great ! Thank you 👍

Price is rocket high and the staff who took order from me was unfriendly with very bad attitude. Mixed grill doesn't have authentic taste and staff hesitant to take second order from me.

I go there regularly and it's the place for me. The food is very good in quality and quantity, the service is always good and the ambiance sets it apart. Eating there is a relaxed experience. There is plenty of fast food available in Chelmsford but I don't want a curry in a hurry. This establishment has a more civilised approach. The owners have been in the business for decades and that is reflected in their long-term consistent approach to customer service.

Busy but fed quickly. Also staff catered for my particular need of being served a specific time after a tablet. Only fault was a tepid rather than fresh hot naan. Rest of food excellent with good portions. My chicken in particular was spicy and tender.

Amazing night out and great food. There was 30 of us and service was superb!!!

This restaurant could not be anything other than 5☆. One of the most amazing places we visit on a regular basis. The staff are wonderful always attentive and we are now all good friends. We have introduced so many of our friends to this restaurant that it's a regular favourite for them also. Keep up the good work boys. We love you all.

This place is absolutely amazing. the food is divine and the staff and service is wonderful. so much to choose from and is always hot and tastes magnificent. apart from being a bit noisy sometimes, it's such an amazing experience and have been more times to count. would recommend to anyone!!

Best Indian Restaurant in Chelmsford by far.

Food and drinks were excellent, unfortunately, there was a group of about 15 males who obviously felt they needed to shout at each other all the time, which meant normal conversation was impossible.

First time at this venue and certainly won't be my last. From service to food was excellent. Chicken was melt in the mouth, flavours were awesome. I have eaten in quite a few curry houses, but this is possibly the best I have been in. I will be planning a return visit very soon!

Asked for lamb got chicken. Wrong rice. Watery madras and a nothing king prawn balti. Had ok/good meals in the past. Complained and offered free takeaway next time but that was such pointless meal. I can cook better than that. So I may just give it a miss even with a free takeaway. 2☆ only because offer of free takeaway. Just an honest experience

it's just the best. been going for over a year , every Friday. Never had a bad meal.

I have tried other restaurants, but in my opinion, the Rose of India is the best around for delicious Indian food. I have eaten at their restaurant and had many takeaways. The staff are always very friendly and most importantly the food is outstanding.

The service here was really awful. The staff would only speak to the one man that was on the table, the women were invisible and my sister was shouted at to move when the table was being cleared. This was a real shame as the food was really good but the service tainted it.

I've been going here for a few years. It's the best Indian restaurant in Chelmsford. Everything is always beautifully prepared, the atmosphere is lively and friendly because it's always busy. Great food and service and I will be back soon without a doubt. Definitely worth booking in advance.

Delicious thick curries, friendly staff

As the restaurant says its Indian,but no dish has Indian spices, or flavour its British restaurant with British recipes.The hospitality was not so good. We ordered plain Naan from bread section with was as thick as bread.

Absolutely wonderful authentic Indian restaurant. Staff are all friendly, kind and very well dressed. The food is absolutely exquisite; good price and well seasoned with a wide range of both delectable authentic foods and refreshing drinks on their menu. It's our go to Indian for a takeaway too. The ambiance of the restaurant is very laid back, yet upscale. This place never disappoints over the 30+ times we've been in/ordered takeaway over the past 4/5 years.
