Bilash in Chelmsford

Service was polite and prompt, but the food was very average. Brinjal bhaji was nice, parathas were like cardboard. Vegetable main dish was like a can of curried sweetcorn.

4 of us went for a meal at the Bilash, we had pre-booked and notified them that it was a taste card booking. The Taste card offer was 2 for one on all food. When we were presented with the bill they tried to tell us that it is only on main courses and it says that on there Web site. We didn't argue and paid but later checked and this was not the case. They clearly didn't like giving any sort of discount. Bearing in mind we were the only customers in the Restaurant that night you would think they would welcome people in the hope of return custom. The food was average at most with the Chicken tikka and Nan bread over cooked. Hence we wont be going again.

The manager was violent towards us and threatened to call the police on us for no reason but the chef and one member of staff were apologetic because of his behaviour towards us and as he is the manager he should the one apologising and making sure his customers feel right he shouldn’t have that job.

Just back from a holiday, my usual Indian restaurant was closed on Sunday lunchtimes. I popped in for a takeaway having used them on the odd occasion in the past. Ordered Popadoms, Chicken Tikka Biryani & Chicken Tikka Dansak. No sauce or onions given with popadoms, the chicken tikka in both dishes was pale and looked and tasted like plain chicken. The biryani was chicken (as described) with pilau rice and peas (veg sauce was onions and peas). Overall a very disappointing meal and an experience I won’t repeat.

Just average. Staff were overly attentive and obviously just wanted us to eat and go, so they could free up the table. Given a seat by the door although there were plenty of tables at the time. Wouldn't bother going back, there's was nothing outstanding about the place.

Usual friendly service and great food (with a discount). Wife thought that the Tandoori Mixed Gril was the best she had had. My tandoori king prawn jalfrezi was spot on with great juicy prawns. Lovely meal at a great price!

This has been our go to Indian restaurant for over 30 years. Friendly staff. Great food with a Butter Chicken to die for. The menu has recently been changed with some unusual dishes. No matter what you choose you won't be disappointed.

The food was pathetic and the service was very poor, Waiter charged the wrong amount and we asked to come in front and discuss what we have ordered the other colleagues said that he is some where else, the manager said that don't argue with us as we have to serve other customer aswell. The reviews on trip advisor and google aren't honest they have just purchased it. Stop taking money for the dishes that you don't prepare #poorservice#poorfood#poorstaff

The food was pathetic and customer service was also poor and they charged us wrongly for the food and we asked the manager about the bill so he said that don't argue as they have other customers that they have to serve. They don't know how to handle the situation and the waiter who was taking the order weren't ready to come in front and give clarification. The reviews on the google are just fake that's not really true.

After making a booking prior to going they unfortunately had lost it. Had to wait 30 minutes for a table but when we received our food it was worth waiting for.

First of all, the biriyani is more like plain rice. Secondly, the curries had no spice. Can't compare it to the Indian biriyani we had. Terrible.Waste of money

First time I tried Thali in the UK. We ordered 1 Meat thali with 1 chana chaat and 2 spicy papadum as starters. Sufficient for 2 people. Reasonable price. It was very quiet. It was probably just the two of us. Ambience was average as it was quiet and the lights were not turned on. The food was good. Service was average to good. The overall experience was good. Recommended.

Went in and can say food was amazing, was with a group of 6 and we where looked after. Plenty of time between courses, mains was great

Myself and my partner came here for our anniversary as the restaurant is on taste card. I asked before we ordered anything if we could order anything of the menu for the 2 for 1 and the waiter said yes. When it came to paying the bill it came to £70 and only £15 was taken off which obviously wasn't right as it was 2 for 1. He started saying that only mains, starters and desserts were covered and that our rice and naan wasn't which was not made clear. I explicitly asked if everything was covered and he said yes. He altered the bill in the end but not before being extremely rude and patronizing towards me. Stating that I should read the terms and conditions before going to a restaurant but I asked him and he lied to me. I think he had an issue with a woman calling him out on something. Awful customer service.

I had prawns biryani the prawns had no spices it was like they had just taken out from water and served to me. The rice had no spices in it. it was disgusting.

Fabulous food, great service. Collected takeaway food tonight but usually we eat in. You cannot beat this Indian restaurant in Chelmsford, it is always good.

Classic curry house. Great speedy service and pretty decent food as well. The menu is probably a bit too vast so took us a while to decide what to get but the 3 of us were happy with the food. It has got all the classics and I particularly enjoyed the Saag Lamb as my main. Poppadums, starters, mains and a few sides to share with a couple of beers each was about £30 per person.

Great lunch, very friendly staff and decent food!

Online delivery is top notch.But dine in customer service is pathetic. I went with my friend and they made us sit on one table then moved on to other table. Then we ordered two parathas with chicken. After eating we asked can we get two more parathas they were like nope. We can't give u anymore. Like who says that. Very awful experience. Only one guy was very calm but rest all including the server were meh..!!

We stopped off at this restaurant on our way to a concert in the local park. The king prawn dansak, that I had, was amazing!

Excellent food, service and atmosphere.

I took my daughter out for a meal and we decided to go here. I haven’t been for years, but it used to be great. The poppadoms were soft, we had them replaced and they had just put new soggy ones under a grill. The waiter was disinterested. The Bombay potatoes were cold in the centre. The mint sauce was fizzy and the chicken was dry as was the rice. When challenged the staff said it was all cooked fresh. In my opinion the only fresh food was the naan bread which was okay. I won’t be going back. Really sad.

Sry to say but food was too basic. Nothing close to Indian food I had in India. They don't serve paneer (cottage cheese) in paneer dishes but cheddar cheese instead which is a negative point. Tandoori roti was nice on the other hand.

Where are all the curries offered in a Paneer version? Paneer Korma? Butter Paneer? Paneer Madras?

Service was good! Quick and reliable! However, food portions were small. The chicken tikka biriyani was disappointing and very dry - despite the vegetable curry that comes with it. Other food, tikka masala, Bombay potatoes and aloo Gobi was nice. Tables are also slightly too close together making us feel slightly uncomfortable. Order more if you’re hungry.

Ordered a takeaway this evening as we have ordered from here a few months ago and it was nice. Unfortunately we were very disappointed, really small stingy portions (it wasn’t cheap either) and the food was cold and bland. Don’t think we will be ordering from here again.

This is one off the best Indian Restaurants I been too, don't have the chicken tikka jalfrezi have the chicken tikka lahori instead it's so tasty. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Indian restaurant, had the Chicken Chat to start and the Chicken Tikka Masala for main, also a cheese naan bread which was great.

Great choice good service Vindaloo was spot on naan breads really fresh and fluffy.

Our food was really delicious and extremely enjoyable. We had the best Peshawari naan we have eaten. The only negative was one of the dishes had a bit too much salt. Apart from that we had a lovely evening. The staff were attentive and polite.

Food was good manger was the only one that was allowed to serve/take orders small portions for the price but very tasty just wish there was more bill was very confusing as it done by hand

First visit for myself but with friends who had been here previously . Very nice polite staff, food was good, not overly greasy and tasted fresh. Reasonably priced as was the drinks. Probably needs a bit of updating in the loos etc . Overall good food, good price and nice staff. Will defo be back

Went here on the strength of recommendations. Poppadoms we're stale. We had Tandoori chicken and Prawn Puri to start which looked nice but was tasteless. Then we had classic Madras and Jalfrezi which were both completely bland and the chicken tasted watery. The best thing was the plain Naan. The place needs updating too.

The waiter was rude, he made us change 3 tables he wasn't approachable and when we ask for additional parathas he said that's we cannot have more so probably we are not welcome there

Absolutely shocked! I drink in the Nags head across the road and have used once or twice a week for a long time. My order was wrong one time and I raised this and was greeted with rudeness and uttter contempt!! And this is from a regular customer! Stay away!!!!

I had worst experience with my family.the person called himself manger really disgusting person. I hate to go there with my family I didn’t feel secure i paid the bill with no happiness .. I felt still insecure.

Beautifully cooked Indian food. Probably the best I’ve tried in the area. Staff are very friendly. Can be a bit hectic on a Saturday night but that doesn’t affect food quality. Definitely going to be back.

The food is absolutely lovely, we were booked for 6.30 on a Saturday night and didn't eat until 8.30, it's a bit of a shame as the staff were nice too just a long time to wait for food.

Visited recently for lunch. Service was very attentive, as we were the only customers. (I found it a bit galling that the waiter kept addressing me as the head of the group, despite my dining companions being the Mayor of the city and her deputy!) The food was absolutely delicious, no question, although my Pasanda came under a thick layer of white gloop, which turned out to be the coconut sauce. I'm used to it being an actual sauce rather than splatted on the top - could be simply my own experiences but I doubt it - for which I'm making this a 4, rather than a 5. It's a pity, as the rest was superb...

Busy Sunday (as always) and we had booked, so straight to our table. We were not in a hurry and the service was very good. We started with the obligatory poppadum's and pickles and of course Cobra!Mains were Chicken Tikka Naga, Chicken Tikka Dhansak and Chicken Tikka Madras, all were very good. We were all impressed by the really succulent Chicken Tikka - obviously fresh from the tandoor !Great curry, great service, great price !!

Have been a few times before and it was okay, however, went today on which happened to be half price Sunday... Sadly the food was at best very bland bordering on flavourless... I did ask if there is a different chef on Sundays - apparently not. Seems they just put in half the effort and ingredients. Won’t go again. ☹️

We love Bilash and have always enjoyed their food but as a takeaway they have issues. We waited almost 2hrs for our food. I called the restaurant to check they had received the order and to check that the 20% discount advertised would be applied as it wasn’t being deducted when we checked out. They said it would be applied when our food was delivered. When our food was 20 mins late I called to check that the driver wasn’t lost and was told our order would be with us in minutes. As the hour ticked by I called again to be told the driver had left and we would receive our order in minutes....A further hour later our food arrived and needed warming up. The restaurant needs to develop some honest customer service. Tell us there is a long wait, let us know it is delayed. It’s a phone call. They had 3 separate opportunities to explain and apologise for the delay. We were not impressed after ordering before 7.30pm to be sitting down to dinner at almost 10pm. They have lost our takeaway custom now. We will not reorder.

Poor customer service. I have been waiting for a takeaway delivery for 2.5hours. I have called three times to chase up my order after such a long wait but the only answer I had was my food would be delivered in5mins, which was not true. During the calls, the staff was not able to confirm if the order has been out for delivery or was it processed or not. The staff even shouted at me over the phone why do I kept asking so many questions. When the food finally arrived, the food was cold and the sauce was spilled. Not recommended.

I've never had such flavourless Indian food. Ordered 4 separate dishes and all of them were just so bland. If I were to have eaten it blind folded I wouldn't have even known it was Indian food. Such a shame as it is so highly reviewed.

Visited for half price Sunday. Great value for money and food really tasty. Goan chicken & lamb naga both delicious. Wish their sag paneer was actually paneer cheese though & not cheddar!

Orderedfor delivery. Arrived an hour and a half after time given. Chased twice to be told "5 minutes away".

I visited last night with my dad making use of the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme.We both felt the food was flavoursome with the correct level of spice and was served at a hot temperature which seems to be an issue in indians I have found.Food was cooked brilliantly, beer served perfectly and service was prompt and smooth.You can either spend a few hours in here drinking and eating or be in and out within 45 minutes like us.Very happy.

worst indian take away ive had in a long time , been eating out of here for a few years always been good . unfortunately the other night had a veg curry which only had sweetcorn in it , no veg , lamb biryani was awful , lamb was tough , felt like it was being sold left overs , sorry bilash im going to find somewhere else to eat ,

Best curry in Chelmsford. Lovely in here. Been going here for 10 years or so and know the guys now. Food is excellent. Service always attentive without being too pestering. Happy to take small or big bookings (my surprise birthday took around 20 people!), or just walk in sometimes! Recently found out they also do take away too, so giving that a go!

We came here as a party of six and ordered a variety of different curries. We are fans of indian food and the menu looked great with lots of ingredients listed. What we received were dishes consisting of 5 lumps of chicken swimming in different colour gravy , no flavour or substance and nothing like we had ordered, more like a soup. So disgusting my husband sent his back twice before they agreed to take it off the bill. When we were given the hand written bill the item had been crossed off but the total was still the same and the bill was also £6 over that stated in the menu. Check your bill very carefully here , we will never return.

I visited on a Friday evening as a group of three friends. The service and standard of food was excellent. I chose methi chicken, and it was one of the tastiest curries Ive had in years. We will be back next time we’re in Chelmsford.

Excellent curry house with good food and reasonable pricing.

Starter had Sheesh kebab. Not very good. Not got enough spices. Main Keema and peas Madras very mild no taste. Saag Bhaji and Chapatti ok. Not very impressed. Daughter ordered a butter chicken and it came out like chicken in custard. Had to send it back. Sorry to say would not recommend.
