We were so looking forward to our romantic valentine's evening. Sadly the previous reviewer has said most of it for us. Extortionately expensive, to be honest, for actually a less than mediocre meal which was not particularly enjoyable. It was obvious, from the occasional groans, the that something was very very wrong in the kitchen, even though front of house staff attemped to cover the cracks with gracious service. Also, yes it was far too cold. Have had lunch several times in this beautiful building, which have been very pleasant, although they really do need to sort out the heating problem.

Disappointing evening meal. Painfully slow service, with hardly any other customers present. The fire was barely lit which left the room very cold. The food was mediocre which was significantly overpriced. Unfortunately, this will be the last time I visit. Such a shame as the building is beautiful.

I recently held my baby shower at Rose Hill and it was the perfect setting! The building and room are beautiful and the service was just what you’d want at a small event- attentive without being intrusive. The buffet was very tasty with a few unusual dishes like the delicious courgette sandwiches alongside the classics and the cakes are amazing! My friends and family all commented on what a great place it was, many of them not having known it was there.

We had assorted coffee n teas .The herbal tea in a nice proper teapot. Food was very tasty and well presented. We were served by a young lad who was very polite so tipped him as did his job well.. toilet was a bit of a let down for ladies as no loo paper so lucky had tissues in my bag . Would go back and would recommend to others alcohol available to compliment ur food if u wished.

Visited for afternoon tea today. Couldn't fault the quality of the food, but was disappointed by the quantity. For the price, £17 each, I would expect at least a full sized scone. Rather different from the picture on the poster an online. It was also very cold in there. Disappointing :(

It is a step back in time with a modern twist A good menu, be it a snack, meal or afternoon tea Food is good value for the cost, with something for any taste. However it does have a limited variety. They are ameniable to make it fit your pallet though. Staff are very pleasant and not over chatty, although that will improve the longer they are open. Venue is also suitable for parties, meetings, interview room or any get together with a separate room that lends itself to your needs with individual tables or en block gatherings. A piece of tranquility in today's hum drum life. One drawback in making contact, sometimes you have to persevere when wanting to book. Still it is worth the effort.

Arrived for my sister’s 60th birthday celebrations, beautiful setting, sat outside on the patio in the sun but with umbrella’s for those who wanted the shade. Ordered two different afternoon tea menu’s and both were excellent, with plenty of variety. A lovely afternoon in a georgous setting and very well looked after by the staff.

I do so want to fall in love with this place. It is a wonderful house to visit and there are some very good things here. We have now visited on 2 occasions, On the first occasion we both had the seafood medley which was delicious but rather over-priced at nearly £14. No accompaniments were served such as bread to mop up the sauce. On our second visit my friend had the squeaky cheese which was apparently as good as it looked and I had the smoked mackerel salad. The latter consisted of prettily sliced and arranged bits of salad and some flaked mackerel. It was only later that I realised that the advertised coleslaw was missing. £7.95. I can't help thinking that if a few tweaks such as good bread being offered, interesting garnishes and/or a reduction in the price of the fayre on offer then this bistro would be rather more popular than it is and attract rather less negative comments. On our second visit on a Friday lunchtime few tables were occupied. There was one waitress who was extremely friendly and competent but stretched. This place could be so fabulous! We will try again at a later date and wish the business every success.

Visited on a wet Saturday afternoon and initially impressed by the lovely dining room and roaring log fire. We chose a lovely bottle of Sauvignon so a nice relaxing afternoon, but then the log fire was allowed to go out midway through our stay, rendering the room cold and we wondered if it was going home time for staff despite it being only 3pm and the bistro being listed on the website as staying open until later. My friend had a jacket potato with tuna which was £5.95.. not a bad price, but then had to pay £2.70 for a side salad the size of which I would normally expect to be served anyway with a jacket potato. I opted for the seafood medley at £13.80 as I had asked the girl serving whether it had mashed potato ie like a fish pie as this was going to be the main meal of my day and she had said yes it did. However when it arrived I have never been as disappointed with any “meal “ ever. It was served in a tiny dish which would usually be that of a starter portion and which consisted of 1 king prawn and 2 pieces of smoked haddock and possibly a scallop, in a sauce which was tasty, served with a small bread roll. When I told the girl it was very disappointing and it didn’t have potato she said oh I thought you meant were there potatoes with the courgette bake ..REALLY ? she just seemed disinterested although perhaps just under confident because she didn’t seem to know much about any of the food and in the main we were left on our own in the dining room even with our empty plates for probably about half an hour. Anyway getting to the bill a chap came into the dining room, possibly the guy who was cooking as he had an apron on and we asked him for the bill.He didn’t present a bill but said it was £56. I went to the counter and asked the girl could I look at the bill because it seemed expensive. She said oh we can’t print it out from this iPad so I said well let me look at the bill on the screen because surely she was looking at it and she turned the iPad around and the bill was actually £45 , so I said to the chap it’s actually £45 and he just casually said sorry about that don’t know how come I got to that figure. I then paid with my card and a full itemised bill was printed so if I hadn’t questioned it would I not have got a print out. It was very strange behaviour. Disappointing that the place is so nearby for us but not one to add to the list of places to go.Poor overpriced food, poor service and poor staff behaviours

What a lovely little bistro. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the roaring open fire and the authentic decor, fresh flowers on each of the tables. On my many visits I have been very impressed with the food, the soup is delish as is the mackerel pate and the oven baked jacket potatoes. Even when calling in for a quick drink with a toasted t cake, the quality and service is still as good, friendly, talkative, but not intrusive. It is certainly a gem of a find and looking forward to the warmer weather when I can sit outside on the patio.

Visited on a icy cold winters day so cheered us to see a lovely open fire burning in the tea room, which is an old reception room in the Manor House. we picked A table near the fire, next to the only other couple there. I asked what the soup of the day was, to be told that there were only two portions left. Running out of soup at 12.15pm? The food we chose was presented well and tasted nice. I had a pot of tea which was very generous size, my friend had a latte, she felt wasn’t as good as other cafes and was lukewarm. The fire was now dying out and we were freezing. The door to the kitchen was left open so draughty and also noisy. We felt there was not a good ambience and all in all not good lunch experience unfortunately.

Attended with my partner and we decided to sit outside only for my partner to be told by the owner/manageress that we needed to pay for our food prior to being served. Interestingly when I politely mentioned this to the waitress who served us ' do I need to go in and pay' she responded in amazement and shock and said this was not the case and we pay once we have finished. Apparently the manager told my partner that they have had a few customers order food and done a runner when Sat outside. If the case why not inform your waitresses of the so called pay before being served if Sat outside. I feel both me and my partner were unfairly judged and stereotyped because we probably didn't meet the profile of being white and middle classed. The foods ok but nothing special and overpriced for what you get. I will never set foot in the place due to the attitude of the management. Stay away if you are working class, non white

Checked this place out online and was drawn in by the excellent looking vegetarian menu and artisan tea/coffee. Beautiful setting next to Rose Hill burial ground. Very peaceful. Stunning building and excellent outdoor seating (which I can imagine in summer would be lovely). As we went in there was a roaring fire going which felt very welcoming. The girl serving us was very friendly but seemed a little rushed off her feet and when i asked about an item on the menu she was unsure what it was. She said she would go and ask the chef to be sure but rather than wait I ordered something else. We had gingerbread lattes which were delicious but the sugar was over the other side of the room and should’ve perhaps been available on the tables. The menu choices were excellent. We went for a “lighter bite” and chose edamame/bean/mint hummus with flatbread. There was just the right amount for a light bite and although we used flatbread to eat the hummus - some cutlery and napkins would’ve been appreciated. Overall a few tweaks here and there and this place could be amazing. Was a little pricey for what it was but the setting made up for it. We will back and I think that says it all.

First impressions were good. Lovely setting and welcoming inside seating. Our waitress came to take our order and I asked if they served skinny latte. Her reply "I don't know it just comes out of a machine but it looks pretty skinny" We ordered 2 latte and 2 fruit scones with butter. I estimate the prices to be about 30% above other establishments and I wouldn't mind paying the price if the quality was there. The scones looked and tasted mass produced definitely not any where near homemade. Might I suggest you visit Whiteley Garden Centre or Villa Farm Shop to taste and see what scones should look like.

This is a lovely former manor house, once the home of a prominent local businessman. It's in a nice setting, easily accessible (close to M62 and A629) with ample private parking. If you are looking for a large meal, then don't come here - it's not a pub! This is fine dining for a light brunch, luncheon or afternoon tea. The menu is well thought out , creative and tasty. The service was excellent, and the place spotlessly clean. I note that some reviews criticised the portion sizes - well, like I said, it's not a pub or fast food joint. This is quality dining for discerning people! It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for!

Called in for Sunday lunch and ordered from the ‘large’ plates part of the menu. A tiny portion arrived. It was tasty but we now need something else to eat. Staff seemed inexperienced and when we expressed disappointment about the portion size we were told that bistro food is always small portions. We’ve eaten in quite a few bistros and had to disagree. No solution was offered. The coffee and the surroundings were nice so maybe just call in for a coffee.

We didn’t have much time so rather than go ti RMT Kitchen where our friends said parking is a nightmare, they suggested we hit Toby. We were seated and drink orders were taken and then nothing more happened so eventually I went over to a waitress and ordered the Ultimate Roast Dinner Sandwich for our son (just some carvery stuff in a roll or pud basically), and carvery for the two of us. We went to get it, meat was cold as well as most of the veg, and the sandwich never came. After about 20 minutes we asked for it and it had obviously been forgotten so she rushed off and got us an Ultimate Roast Beef Sandwich which is just some beef and gravy slapped on a roll. Honest misunderstanding so no big deal. We asked for a replacement, she took away the tray, manager showed to to ask about our issue, both said it would be sorted, again nothing for another 20 minutes, and we had to ask yet one more time to get a sandwich that was sloppy, but too hot to touch, and a bowl of cold gravy. Desert was fine, but the custard with the apple pie was again a tongue burner (nuked maybe?). When time to pay came, none of this had apparently discouraged the waitress from asking for a tip. She was lucky we were leaving that day and there to burn off no longer needed GBP so she got wholly underserved 6 quid for her efforts. Overall we lost more time waiting than it would have taken us as per our friends to find parking near RMT Kitchen, and the food was absolutely not worth it.

After a bracing walk around part of Digley Dam this was an ideal stop off to satisfy healthy appetites. It wasn't particularly busy so my friend and I were fortunate to select a table by the window to sample views of the surrounding countryside that the area is famous for. We both chose the regular Fish & Chips, good value at £12 though smaller portions are available at £9.50. My friend's Side Salad cost £4 which I thought expensive for what he received while a side order of Mushy Peas set him back £2. I thought the drinks were expensively priced, £2.90.for a pint of Fanta Orange but we'd visited for the Fish & Chips and these were delicious so it was definitely worth the effort. The menu is quite extensive so there are plenty of alternatives to satisfy most appetites and palates. A good experience.

Family meal. More bar staff needed and some did appear somewhat stressed. I ordered the rack of ribs, they tasted lovely but were no where near hot enough. Good JD sauce. The corn on the cobs were inedible, boiled within in an inch! My husband enjoyed his beef burger, but overall, for the price of food, it’s nothing special. Most of the party were just ‘erm, it was okay’. Good price on a bottle of red wine and the food came out as we ordered, we they wanted us to pay at the bar due to party size. Main male staff member greeting as we walked in was friendly.

We were staying at the hotel nearby so visited the Nags Head for drinks / tea. I’m coeliac. They stock gluten free lager by the bottle so we sat outside in the sunshine admiring the view of the pub whilst having a couple of drinks. Our meal was fantastic! Piping hot, delicious hunters chicken and chips ( gluten free) partner had the gammon and chips also delicious 🤤 The only thing I would suggest is to have a separate gluten free menu. Or add gf symbols on the current menu. The process to order gluten free is you’re handed a tablet and you have to enter your preferences. Great customer service , lovely pub. Definitely recommend
