Rose & Crown in Aylesbury Vale

We booked a table for lunch, travelled a significant distance to meet friends. When we arrived we were told that there was no chef and there was just a basic sandwich menu available. The full menu is advertised on the website so we should have been informed beforehand that this was not available.

We booked Sunday lunch for 7 of us promising our Australian guests a proper Sunday lunch to find that the ‘summer menu’ doesn’t have Sunday roasts on it which was surprisingly. The summer menu is very uninspiring, containing jacket potatoes, sandwiches and a few bog standard mains (beef burgers / scampi and chips). Two of us had the ploughman’s which was a slice of ham, a couple of small pieces of flavourless cheese, some pickles and a stale roll with the texture of polystyrene. We asked for fresher bread and the only thing offered as an alternative was stale slices of cheap sandwich loaf despite a couple of our party having panini which were fresher. It felt like the cheapest of ingredients with the minimum of effort. We didn’t bother with deserts. All a shame as we’ve eaten breakfast lunch and dinner in the past and found it ok. It should be noted that the serving and bar staff were very nice and helpful.

Sat in the garden yesterday. Lovely to see so many people enjoying the brief sunshine. The staff were very welcoming and took time to welcome us, even when they were off duty. Would recommend

I came to the Rose and Crown last week. The staff were so welcoming, attentive and caring. Our server Robbie is truly an asset to the pub. I had a steak and blue cheese sandwich. 5* across the board

The Rose and Crown is a gem and my favourite spot in Wingrave. Very welcoming and really good service. The food was so fresh and my girlfriend loved the vegetarian options. Shout out to Adam and Bella, both were so attentive. We’ll definitely be back soon!

I was in the party of 14 and had a good evening with friends. However, my burger was overcooked and was dry, as was the bun, and the salad was non-existent. Also, curiously, I had french fries while a friend who had an identical meal had chunky chips but nothing was said! I ordered a lemonade and lime but, could only have a lemonade as there was no lime cordial. I don't like complaining and the young staff did their best I felt but it was a shame to see a potentially lovely pub like this struggling to provide a half decent service

What a disappointing meal our party of 14 experienced! My Summer Pasta was pretty tasteless and my husbands Vegan Tofu curry arrived with Chicken and had to be sent back to the kitchen as did another of the diners vegetarian salad which came with a chicken breast! The burgers were over cooked and the buns tasted stale. Small pieces of blue plastic were found in two of the dishes and one meal, another Summer Pasta was delayed being served only arriving after most of the other diners had finished. One of our party had ordered a latte/Coffee and twice had to return them as they were luke warm. I only hope that perhaps there was a staffing problem in the kitchen and this isn't the usual level of service. Such a shame as its a lovely pub and venue.

We had a lovely lunchtime meal with plenty of menu choices. You can get a brunch after 12.00 which is great as you don’t always want a large meal, The onion bhaji burger was absolutely delicious as were the chunky chips. Owner friendly as was the lad who served us.

You will fall for our local pub…as we did …what you get is blown away by the Mgrs. Ali & Ross they supersede every expectation with great food! Andy a phenomenal chef personalises so many dishes as I’m not easy ..dairy intolerant, rice intolerant and washing up intolerant The whole place has a great vibe with a easy going ambience ..you have your faithful locals that I only say thank you for supporting the pub. and I can’t say enough about the rockin staff…you guys rocks!! We are so lucky to have this as our local pub!

Ross and Alessio took on the management in autumn 2022 (from Kelly and Paul who had done such a great job for a few years , including sustaining the pub during and after lockdowns). We’ve eaten and or just been in for a drink many times since (including an excellent lunch on Christmas Day) and the new team is doing a great job of providing a welcoming atmosphere, well cooked, well presented food and local beer (as well as an expanding range of non-alcoholic options). Last week we went on Pie & Mash night and I had the chicken and leek, my wife had the steak and ale. Both were home made, very tasty, served with a smile and - by 2023 standards - reasonably priced. Accompanied by Tring Brewery’s Side Pocket bitter and a glass of the usual good quality Merlot. We didn’t have room for any of the excellent puddings (crafted by local patissier Alice) but have done on other occasions and they’re very good - with plenty of gluten-free options apparently. For drinkers who aren’t staying to eat, the middle snug bar and the back public bar are usually hosting a gaggle of regulars putting the world to rights, or having a quiet pint.

The Rose & Crown are under new management, namely Ali and Ross. They have a strong pub and hospitality pedigree, most recently coming from The Stag at Mentmore, and successfully developing other people's business and brand. It is now their turn, to do it for themselves. They are 3 months in, the Lease sign is down and they have already welcomed a strong set of regulars, nurtured a great group of young staff, provided a great xmas menu, setup super breakfasts, had specialist evenings, wakes, dancing; soon to be adding a great menu Burns evening and a Valentines do. They are mindful of the market they're in, the importance of 'the local' and providing the correct atmosphere, staff and entertainment. Personally, they look after me, my table of 12 cousins and have been great for my young daughter who works there, in her first job. They are striving for pub perfection and I commend them on their first 3 months and wish them well for their special journey for their customers. Also dog friendly! We were a group of eight cyclists who needed a lunchtime stop on a two day cycling tour of the Chilterns. Aware that many pubs are still emerging from lockdown, I phoned up in advance to enquire whether they could help. I spoke to Kelly who was able to arrange sandwiches and chips, even though this wasn't something that they would normally do on a Sunday. The food was delicious and the portions spot on. Kelly and her team couldn't do enough to help and I would certainly recommend The Rose & Crown. Oh, and the roast lunches looked superb but alas, not very good for cyclists who then have to spend all afternoon in the saddle!

Myself and my brother used to meet for lunch at another pub situated between Aylesbury and Leighton Buzzard. Sadly the pub is now closed so we needed a new lunch venue. I found this place online but completely forgot to book a table. Thankfully a very friendly lady told us to pick a table and she would be over soon with some menus. The food was great and the location is lovely and very pretty. Staff are very friendly and attentive so I think we have found our new "meet up for lunch" place. Highly recommended

This is a great local in normal times - excellently kept beers from nearby breweries and a high standard of food. In the midst of the Covid lockdown it has turned itself into an efficient and inventive lifeline for the village. We now have our favourite pies and Sunday roasts in takeaway or delivery form. The socially distant conversations in will fellow villagers the car park collection area have turned it into the nearest thing we have to a social life at the moment.

This was our first visit, so did not know what to expect. This is very much a pub, so no need to dress up! Our first impression was how noisy it was. Meeting up with friends and next to a table with several children and loud adults made it difficult to talk.However, the food was very good. I had the Lamb Cobbler with cheddar mash and veg. All well cooked and excellent. My husband wasn't so impressed with the chips he had along with the fish. A bit undercooked.The desert menu was difficult for one of our party - no gluten free options (apart from ice cream) and nothing 'light'. I had the Roly Poly with ice cream which I enjoyed very much.Would we go back? - probably not. Nice to see a local pub so busy though.

We had a fabulous meal for my father's 90 birthday 17 January.Although it wasn't busy being a Friday lunchtime, we had booked prior and was well looked after upon arrival.The food was top quality and very flavorful.Presentation was excellent too.There were 6 people who had different meals all of which thought the food was high quality.We plan to visit again even though we live in excess of 200 Mike round trip!All in all it was perfect.

Ten of us met up at The Rose & Crown for Sunday lunch. We were all so pleased that we had listened to recommendations. We had a great Sunday lunch last weekend. Service and food were really good. Large portions (not huge, which is a waste). Medium busy, looked to me like many regulars were there as the staff new people by name. Would go back.

I was tasked to find a pub between Onyerbike motorcycle dealership near Waddesdon and our home in Bedford; using only Tripadvisor as a guide, I decided to made a detour to the Rosa & Crown in Wingrave as it seemed to be the place for us. And what a great find it has been!

Went for lunch with mum. Proper homemade Steak and Stilton pie, pastry on top and bottom and the middle solid with meat, mash and well cooked vegetables, gravy very tasty. You certainly wouldn't walk out here hungry. Bar staff delightful. Be back soon.

Today we had Sunday lunch in the pub garden mid afternoon, when it was relatively quiet.

Great village pub with a reasonable range on the menu. When it came, the food was excellent (I had the ‘signature’ chicken kiev), the service was friendly and attentive and the was a good choice of ale (I had a lovely pint of ‘New Moon’ from the local Haresfoot Brewery.

Had a wonderful meal at this pub. The staff were delightful, polite, friendly and courteous. They gave us undivided attention. The food was excellent and we told them so! The almond and lentil loaf with vegetables was truly delicious and a great choice for vegetarians. Compliments to the chef! We had a lovely time and would definitely go back in the future.

This pub was taken over about a year ago (I think), and the new owners have turned it into a welcoming, vibrant hub for the entire village. With three bar rooms and a restaurant - including a cosy little snug - there’s plenty of room for large groups or the odd quiet spot if you prefer. Lots of outdoor seating means you can enjoy a pint overlooking the village green. The food is tasty, solid pub fayre, with very generous portion sizes. What makes the place particularly brilliant, though, is the staff. They are friendly, helpful and attentive and will make you visit worthwhile whatever the reason. Absolutely superb.

Had the pleasure of eating lunch here twice with friends. Lovely menu and great tasting food. The team are very welcoming and check you’re ok without being intrusive. Great to listen to the local ukulele band playing and we joined in for a singalong. A proper village pub to be proud of.

The quality of food and value for money here is beyond reproach. Thick cut ham and chips which are obviously home cut and not frozen. Excellent and friendly service from the staff. Will certainly return.

We are here as a celebratory Friday lunch with friends. I had rung the evening before to ask whether the delicious-sounding Thai Three Bean And Coconut burger was vegan... It is. And it is amazing! Home made, great texture and flavour and a good satisfying size, in a lovely bun with good quality salad leaves and gherkins. The accompanying chips were among the best I’ve ever had as were the onion rings. Our meat eating friend loved her sausages and mash too. Service was friendly and elegant. That was the kind of meal I’ll have flashbacks to for years!!

We got a bit lost driving back to Tring and ended up in Wingrave. We decided to stop for a drink at the Rose & Crown. A great selection of drinks and a very warm welcome from the staff meant we stayed and had some food. A good selection of classics done well (proper pie with perfectly cooked veg was a hit) and something for everyone (tuna with home made salsa verde and veggie stroganoff were polished off) in big portions hit the spot.

I had researched this pub to meet our old school friends for a yearly catchup and thought the reviews seemed very good. What a let down, empty throughout of customers, service slow and the food very poor. The menu was pretty average which was a surprise. Admittedly my food which I had complained about was taken off the bill but I couldn’t wait to leave and bypassed dessert.

Thirteen of us had a family get together meal in The Rose and Crown and it was enjoyed by all. The service was good and the food was good. What more could you ask?

We decided to visit the Rose & Crown having read the reviews. We were not disappointed. The pub was quiet on a Thursday evening but this did not affect our enjoyment, we had a very warm welcome and great service. We had the risotto and tuna salsa verde, both of which were delicious. We then had the raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake which was also very good.

I booked a table for 6 of us to have lunch before having an alpaca trek at nearby Abbotts View Alpacas (recommended by Jo at Abbotts View) £10 menu for 2 courses - service was fantastic and food absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend

Visited over the May Bank Holiday and had a thoroughly enjoyable late lunch/early dinner. Lovely variety of dishes and excellent service. Would very happily return again.
