Great little pub well worth a visit

I would not recommend this pub to my worst enemy, please DO NOT go. The manager was incredibly rude and ignorant. He tried to force my friends who were fasting to buy a drink and claimed it was a ‘rule in pubs’. He treated the group I was with horrifically and said some highly racist things. Shameful behaviour from a shameful establishment. Do not go within an inch of this pub.

Would not recommend this pub to anyone. It has an incredibly hostile and unwelcoming environment - there are many much nicer pubs in the area where you won't be made to feel uncomfortable.

Had an awful experience with the rude pub manager who was especially rude to patrons of colour. Avoid at all cost.

Extremely racist man managing the pub who was uncomfortable with the fact that a large group of non-white people were in his pub. It was extremely clear from the minute we got in that the very grumpy man managing the pub was racist, even though there was a large group of friends who had already ordered drinks and were giving the pub their ENTIRE service for the night. He came up to us twice to say that we must order drinks and ‘do we not know that in a public house in england you must order a drink, you can’t order tap water unless you’re eating or drinking’. I’ve been into pubs my entire life and this has never been the case. I have never been treated in such a disgusting manner. We were just popping in to tell our friend happy birthday and both didn’t drink so didn’t need to buy a drink and were then promptly told that using our religion as a way to get out of buying a drink is ‘ridiculous’ and that ‘as far as I know during ramadan you can drink after sunset’. Our entire group (around 20-30 people) left the pub because of how disrespectful this man was. None of us will be coming back. Avoid at all costs, do not go here.

El Rose and Crown es un excelente pub. Siempre hay una cálida bienvenida, buena comida y, sobre todo, la cerveza de la mejor calidad. El interior es peculiar. Hay mucha madera, estanterías y carteles. El pub tiene dos habitaciones pequeñas, pero nos gusta sentarnos en el pasillo. También hay un jardín con toldo. Tienen sesiones regulares de jazz. No puedo recomendarlo lo suficiente. Un bar maravilloso.

A lovely little gem serving good pints. They offer food, though we didn’t try. The staff were very helpful and the space is clean. Harder to get around for limited mobility, but a lovely back garden space.

Vine con mi familia para celebrar el 95 cumpleaños de mi padre, durante un fin de semana en Cotswolds. I often try to like "fish and chips" but it's usually a fish lost in the breading. At Rose & Crown PH I ate the best fish and chips possible. Nice atmosphere. I can't wait to get back to Oxford and go there again.

Appalled. Walked into the Rose and Crown tonight to have a drink with my friend and I was greeted by the grumpiest and downright ignorant man I have ever come across in my life. I have been informed this is the owner of the establishment. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with rude remarks and basically shoved out. I would NEVER EVER recommend going here.. this man’s behaviour was disgusting and I can’t believe we were treated like this.

A family run, welcoming pub with an excellent jazz night on a Sunday. Nestled in North Parade close to Oxford colleges and the Natural History Museum.

As soon as I entered the store, I had three glasses of wine and done it! This is a pub that many Oxford people love. The small and cute shop has a variety of exquisite and delicious pub food, as well as a variety of refreshing and delicious beers. Today I ordered the signature real ale. The store offers an ordering method where you can taste three flavors at once. Each of the three cups is 1/3 of a pint, which is equal to the quantity and price of a pint. For those who like to try more Really great and cost-effective! The "fish and chips" here are so delicious! You can really see the store's care when eating. Whether it's fried fish or chips, they are all fried to perfection, crispy and tender. It's hard not to say "like" after eating them. And the two and a half slices of toast on the side of the plate should not be underestimated. , after taking a bite, I quickly asked my friends to try it too. The cream is so delicious, I love it! The way British sausages are measured here is very special. Because they are packed in beer glasses, the measurement unit is pints. How cute!

I cannot believe I am having to give one of my favourite pubs the lowest rating! This is because there is a horrible stench in the gents so bad that it becomes a problem for everyone who is sat in that part of the garden in already such a small pub. I don't know what the management are thinking but surely cheap bleach is not out of reach for this business.

One of the best if not the best pubs in Oxford. The landlord is a legend and is always up for regaling customers with tales from over 40 years and the Rose and Crown.

What a find! A tiny pub full of charm, small inside but tables in a no traffic lane and in the little garden at the rear. I didn't eat here but the beer was great, lots of atmosphere, go there!

Amazing place! If you want to feel the Oxford's real life it's the place. People are really happy to help you, the food is excellent and everything is just perfect. Highly recommend it.

Lovely classic pub but the old man dressed as a penguin in a bow tie was a bit of a stick in the mud.

A proper boozer, this - with a lot of history and a wide range of ales. I was told the pub was built 700 years ago as a reward for the workers that built the local church. It benefits from a lovely walled garden with pirate-themed climbing frame so the kids can play while you have a drink. Pooches welcome and well-catered for with water. Food was tasty and reasonably priced -do not miss the excellent chips!

Very nice and authentic pub where we had a delicious meal (cottage pie, fish pie,...). Really cozy and atmospheric. Super friendly service. Recommended for those who want a taste of real life just outside the center of Oxford!

Very pleasant quirky pub just behind the Banbury Road. The landlord is welcoming, and there is quite a large courtyard, which was perfect on a summer's evening. I didn't try the food, but what other customers had looked good.

Excellent pub, takes CAMRA cards which is nice, plenty of good lagers and ales on tap with good atmosphere, seating out the front which is nice. Service was good, overall a very enjoyable place to go for a drink

A proper pub, with a great ambience. Good selection of ale, all of which we tried was kept to perfection. Good selection of food, a lot of it suitable for accompanying a day's beer drinking as well as proper meals. All we had was of good quality and when the Ploughman's says apple, it means an Apple. Just a shame we don't live closer, but now top of my list for days in Oxford.

Found this lovely little pub whilst walking back from the city to our hotel. Received a very warm welcome from the friendly staff and other patrons. It's a very cosy pub with extra seats outside in the rear area with under table heaters, which were movement sensored, so came on as you sat down and was a great idea. Had a great selection of beers!!

I couldn’t resist visiting a pub in Oxford with the same name as the pub in the England pavilion at Epcot. It did not disappoint. Cute garden area out back with tons of seating. Yummy fries and good beer.

Spent a hour here on a Friday night it was fun and staff were very friendly

The bar staff that served us were lovely but the manager (I think he was the manager - he had been showing a new staff-member around) came over to us at one point and told us to 'stop shrieking'. I would understand if the place was busy or it was late, but we were the only people in an otherwise empty beer garden on a sunday afternoon. We were playing a card game together and I guess he didnt like that we were laughing? Made us feel very unwelcome. I wouldnt go back again.

Had the pleasure of stumbling into this delightful British pub and instantly hit by its warm and inviting ambiance with cozy wooden furnishings and low hanging ceilings. The bar serves up a delicious selection of drops 🍻too served in handles/pots. Each sip was a delightful journey. Food menu was classic pub-fare and all tasted of homemade deliciousness. A genuine 💎 is the 🌹&👑, cannot wait to visit again.

Visited for a late morning pint after not having been there for many years. The building still retains its unique charm and new management was efficient and helpful. Sadly the pub has, in recent years, fallen in with "normal" practice and no longer continues to open into the middle of the night. Food looked interesting but we were on a mission to visit several pubs in Oxford. Definitely on the list for another visit.

Called in for an early evening meal and could not be more surprised to find a lovely warm traditional pub with traditional food that is served well. Staff were completely hospitable and could not be more welcoming. A true gem in the City of Oxford and would certainly revisit on return with family

We were so hungry so we bought a round of drinks, and ordered some pizza from the place next door to enjoy our drinks with food. Then the owner comes over to our table and accuses us of consuming other food on their table, but we asked what the issue was since the kitchen was closed, and we purchased (overpriced) drinks (place was empty, so we weren’t taking the seats from other customers). We then saw the owner taking photos of us without our consent, and when we asked him to delete them he became extremely aggressive and tried to intimidate us. Absolutely awful experience, was quite scary really, please do not go here.

Monday lunch time and open for food as well as a good selection of beer worth a visit.

A supper spot to entertain our USA Grandson and his friend. They were starting out on a European tour and were bowled over by the hospitality and the fish and chips. Debbie was on duty with son Adam and, as ever, they made us so welcome. This pub is surely the most authentic in Oxford. We tried the locally brewed 'Trinity' that can be recommended. Debbie and Andrew, now with son Adam, have been the landlords for 40 years. What an achievement. Great beer, great food and really great atmosphere.

Horrible owner but friendly staff. The owner does not allow music, even when you are the only guests there and gets rude. He also does not allow certain drinks like tequila and is rude to customers. AVOID!

If you're looking for a pub in Oxford with a questionable reputation when it comes to inclusivity, I would like to share my experience. My family and I have been residents of Oxford since 2017, and today was our third visit to this pub over a span of six years. We had our 5-month-old baby with us with the sweltering heat. Initially, we attempted to find a seat in the pub's garden at around 4:30 pm. While we were aware that Sundays are dedicated to jazz events, which typically commence at 7:30 pm, we were denied seating until 5:30 pm by the same individual we encountered before. Faced with the scorching weather, we opted to sit indoors for some relief and respite. However, once we placed our drink orders, the guy instructed his staff to inform us that children were not permitted in the pub after 5 pm. I suspect he conveyed this through his staff because there have been instances where we struggled to comprehend his accent when he spoke English in his native manner. It is important to note that English is not our first language. This incident mirrors a similar occurrence from two years ago when we ordered food here. It seems that unless one speaks English in a manner that the owner deems native, they are automatically assumed to be a tourist or visitor to Oxford. However, one's command of the English language does not serve as proof of their place of residence. I have resided in Oxford since 2017, and it is not necessary for me to conform to a specific British style. If the owner wishes to be understood, he should make an effort to communicate clearly, rather than delegate the situation to his staff. This unfortunate experience sheds light on a hidden and unspoken form of discrimination present.

Absolutely delighted with my experience at the Rose & Crown Public House! From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed warmly by the friendly staff. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the decor is truly charming. The menu is varied and delicious, with plenty of options for everyone. I particularly enjoyed the fish and chips - crisp, golden batter and perfectly cooked, flaky fish. The portion sizes were generous and left me feeling satisfied. The drinks selection is equally impressive, with a great choice of local and international beers, wines and spirits. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. They truly made us feel like valued customers. Overall, I had a wonderful evening at the Rose & Crown Public House and will definitely be back again soon. Quirky pub with a couple of rooms inside and a lovely big garden out the back, plus seating outside in the pedestrianised street. Beers are good. There was a jazz evening the day we visited, with various events regularly taking place. Toilets (outside) need a refurb.
