Been twice in recent weeks and both times truly delighted. Amazing food and fantastic service. Just love this pub. I’ve had both Seabass and Seabream with samphire - oh my days! Sensational.

We planned a walk in the Burwash area followed by a pub lunch at the Rose and Crown. It is tucked away off the High Street but worth seeking out.In terms of appearance and atmosphere the pub meets all expectations of a good English country pub. Service was excellent. It takes Covid 19 controls seriously so we felt very safe. Our food was excellent. My wife said that her fish and chips was the best she had eaten in years. My steak was also excellent.

We enjoyed a nice local walk and finished up here for lunch. We both enjoyed a fab stuffed mushroom starter whilst my wife had sea bream and I had pie of the day. Finished off with chocolate brownie and cheese platter. Lovely bottle of Muscadet washed it all down. Really great food, top quality (better than pub grub, which location suggests it might be). Land lady Marie is a great host too. We’ll be back - loved it here

The Rose and Crown is all that you would want in a historic village pub. Very welcoming manager and locals. Varied menus, - I particularly enjoyed the beef starter...and the bream main course. Choice of eating in the dining room or the lounge. And the beer (Harvey's) is well kept ... the publican knows her business and her customers!

Good pub tucked away off the high street. Beers from Harveys were in good condition. The menu is a cut above normal pub food...nothing too fancy but nicely cooked, decent portions and friendly and efficient service. We sat in the courtyard and service was offered at the table, to minimise entry into the main building. We were on holiday but it seemed popular with locals.Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Wonderful atmosphere a lot to do with the Landlady who is so professional and accommodating. Every thing about this very old pub is wonderful. Staff are friendly and helpful. The Beer is served as it should be, due I am sure to the expertise of the landlady, also a good selection of wines. Food is good our only criticism I wish the chips were home made. Even if one had less the quality would make a huge difference as it is such an English thing these days to serve frozen chips. Why ? when they are so easy and not more difficult than fresh vegetables. Deserves awards this pub. Have been many times and ow once again now restrictions are lifting.

We decided to visit Bateman’s with friends and wanted to go and have a pub lunch after our house tour. The Rose and Crown is located nearby in Burwash. We booked a table and were warmly greeted on arrival. The service was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and all homemade and freshly cooked. I had the homemade steak and stilton pie of the day, the others had Rye fresh beer battered cod and chips and a homemade omelette. The desserts were equally delicious a treacle tart with ice-cream, Bailey’s creme brûlée, and blackberry cheese cake. There was a lovely log fire burning which gave the pub a cosy feel on a rather cold day and all added to the atmosphere. We will definitely return when we visit the area again.

Booked this pub for an evening meal just after Christmas based on previous Tripadvisor reviews. This pub lived up to expectations and actually exceeded them. We called last minute to book a table and luckily looks like we got the last one, pub was very busy when we arrived but we were greeted quickly and warmly and advised to get a drink at the bar until our table was ready. Our waitress took our drink to the table when ready and was very attentive and polite, explained the menu and gave opinions on the various dishes and reserved the last piece of pudding that I requested. Food was hot and delicious and portion sizes very generous. Presentation was excellent and fantastic value for money. Two glasses of wine, a shared starter, 2 mains and a dessert, just over £40. We live about an hour away, but wouldn't hesitate in popping down for another evening meal. Well done to staff front of and back of house, a great find.

We arrived at the pub today and were seated in the lovely restaurant section in front of the cosy warm fireplace. The servers were polite and swiftly took our drink orders. When ordering our food they were able, without prior warning, to accommodate my daughter's dietary/allergy requirements beautifully and also they happily altered a children's meal to a full size meal for one of the party who fancied somthing from the young guests menu. After a short while our plates arrived and my goodness they looked amazing! Lovely colourful portions of fresh delicious home cooked food. I had turkey and it did not disappoint...it was succulent and flavoursome along with all the traditional trimmings that each had their own story to tell...it was gorgeous and I was stuffed afterwards. Others in the party were just as impressed including my daughter who suffers with crohns disease and is so often unable to enjoy meals as much as this. The empty plates were efficiently cleared away and we all ordered a desert. The deserts were beautifully presented and in generous proportions, we scoffed the lot and enjoyed trying each others as they all looked lovely and again seemed to be homemade and wholesome. After today's experience I can wholeheartedly recommend the Rose & Crown and will definitely revisit next time we are down visiting family.Thankyou Mireille and your staff for today's hospitality we left feeling quite content indeed and your love for the place was evident in the cleanliness and attention to detail throughout! We booked into the Rose and Crown for a Sunday lunch whilst staying in the village on a winter holiday. It is run by a very welcoming, friendly and hyper efficient staff. When we went into the dining room we were a little dismayed to see that a large family party had been already seated, so we were prepared for a long wait. How wrong were we. Our drinks appeared quickly, our order of roast beef taken and in no time our meals were served. The meal was very good and so how nice it was to be served appropriate, properly cooked winter vegetables served with not a clump of broccoli in sight. I particularly enjoyed the cauliflower cheese. I`m afraid we had to pass on a pudding.A second visit was made later that week, but only for drinks this time, on the night of the Christmas fair which was held in the pub and elsewhere in the village. Again we thoroughly enjoyed that occasion. Our third visit came for dinner on the Friday which we chose to eat in the bar. Again, we received the same friendly, efficient service. We chose a confit duck leg, mashed potato with apple and the most delicious red cabbage. How can you beat that on a December evening?

We came here very late hoping for lunch after visiting Bateman’s the former home of Rudyard Kipling. Unfortunately the NT cafe was full and the first pub we found in the village had stopped serving. Feeling hungry and wondering if we would end up eating sandwiches in the car we found the Rose & Crown just off the high street. Lovely old pub, with beams, fireplace, settles and cushions. I had sausage and mash, two massive bangers, mashed potato and a good mixture of veggies with a lovely gravy, my companion had the Hunters Chicken. Both great, served on warm plates (I have a thing about food arriving Luke warm). We found the service welcoming and there was a lovely atmosphere in the pub. Lovely pub, friendly staff but there was nothing on the menus that wasn’t cooked in garlic? I just don’t understand why a roast dinner would be cooked like this. Not everyone likes garlic. My wife and I had an evening meal which was excellent. We both had hake which was fresh and beautifully cooked. The service was very friendly and the beer was clean. I highly recommend this place and will definitely return when we are back in the area.

It was recommended by a friend so we decided to see if they had a space this evening (Saturday). As it was nice weather we sat in the front beer garden which is looked after very well, clean and full of flowers and herbs which are used in the kitchen. The staff was prompt and very polite and it was easy to have a chat. We had a starter to share and each a main. I had the fish cakes from the seasonal menu which were delicious and full of flavour and lots of fish in comparison to other places where you only find lots of dry potatoes inside. The sausage and mash staple was very good too. Dessert was lemon posset to share which just melted in your mouth. The atmosphere was lovely and although not the cheapest place to eat we were happy spending money on really good quality food. Apparently they have a new head chef since 6 months and food has improved plus they change their seasonal menu every 10 days so it's guaranteed fresh. We would definitely recommend and will be back ourselves!

We were staying in Burwash so a wander down the High Street and there was the Rose & Crown. Excellent beer - Harveys. A very large (and excellent) plate of fish and chips and really friendly and efficient staff. Lots of locals both eating and drinking in and outside in the garden too. Great atmosphere and if we'd had time, we would have come back for another dinner. Thanks to the young staff for making the experience so pleasant.

a fantastic lunch for four, with an excellent selection of veggie choices for my wife. We loved it. Excellent service and delicious food. I opted for the chicken burger, but with a difference. A whole roast chicken breast topped with brie and cranberry sauce served in a brioche bun. Fantastic.

The first time we have been for a while, it never disappoints. I cosey, local pub not far from the main village road. Down to earth, good service, good food and wine. An outside garden that is a sun trap. Definitely, worth a stop over. A good price too.

We came across the Rose and Crown in the quintessential Sussex village of Burwash by accident. Tucked in a side street off the main high street of Burwash near to the war memorial, you will find this gem. Low ceilings, traditional pub and mixture of old and new décor in the pub and restaurant. We received a warm an friendly welcome from the staff on duty (09 June 2017). The range of meals being served and eaten by customers looked and smell appetizing! We wanted a nice cold draft Guinness and orange drink....but could not resit the temptation to ask for a plate of the tasty chips. We stayed outside in patio area which was quite and relaxing place. We are local Sussex residents and cannot wait to return and sample a full meal.

I took a group of 25 walkers here today. It was raining hard as we all met and even though it wasn't open Mireille the landlady invited us in for coffee. The clue is in her name; the French make great coffee and know how to cook. On arriving back at lunchtime we were served efficiently and quickly - no mean feat for such a large group - and the food was delicious. Lovely staff, a range of good beers and proper meat pies and as well! All 25 of us voted it a hit!

If you are looking for somewhere that you can feel truly at home, somewhere where the company, food and atmosphere is paramount, then he Rose and Crown is just the place to visit. . This relatively new landlady has turned this village pub round. With wonderfully kept ales and a new chef, it has become a wonderful place to visit.

A delightful traditional pub, a rarity as so many of them get modernised. We enjoyed a pint and a light lunch on a Sunday; fish cake with a side salad, was very nice. Service and hospitality was friendly efficient and professional. Will definitely revisit when next in the area.

We have been a few times before and it's been ok but last time we waited nearly two hours for our food on my mums birthday, but decided to give it another go as it was such a nice day to sit in there lovely pub garden, we usually go to the Bear round the corner as good prices for good food. I ordered the sausage sandwich and my mum the ploughman's and can honestly say this was one of the most disappointing lunches. Sausage sandwich had one sausage in it, and half a bag of walkers ready salted on the side!! Shocked. I could of done better at home. My mums ploughman's consisted of 2 slices of cheddar, a slice of ham and half a part baked baguette for over £10, absolutely ludicrous. Service was prompt and friendly. But the food, poor. Especially for the prices.

Very well cooked meal for four, two adults and two nearly teens. We had to wait a short while for the meals, but we knew that they had been cooked freshly for us by the type of meal we were having. Liver and onions, ham, egg and chips, extremely well presented burger and goulash. Good value as far as we were concerned. The desserts on the other hand were not such good value, but were presented very well.Would go back again.

Had excellent lunch-the burgers are the best I've had in this area. My husband had pork belly which was very succulent. We were with friends plus two large dogs and chose to sit in the courtyard although we would have been very welcome inside the premises. The dogs were given biscuits and water by the lovely staff and we enjoyed a very relaxing meal. We will return!
